But this sums up where this project is at:
----
ok guys.. some bad news.. Talked with Matt2 on a business level and after i went over some figures with him, my calculations were so far off.. i should be on mars..
The break even point for this project is 275+/- 10/12 extras.
I have been saying 150 and I am not sure where I got that unless I was not calculating the shipping since I did free shipping.
We are at 129 at the time of writing this.
So here is my question, I have always said, I will refund if we stop this without it being made. We had over 350+ that wanted this.
My initial thought was to spend the several hours tonight to just cancel/refund.. but then I figured we came this far. I also go on vacation Sept 10-18.
So what I propose, today is the 11th of August. Lets give it till the 25th of August. 2 Weeks... If we are not even close, then I will spend the next 2 days refunding..
So listen.. if anyone out there wants this.. buy it now.. or it will not get made.. To all of those that did buy.. sorry its taking so long, your money is safe. I am not out to steal anything, I just want the door to be made.
Thanks
Joe

Thats crazy man but just like your saying, i actually am one of the dudes who said he was going to order one and i havent been on XDA in awhile, sorry i didnt see the thread but ill put an order in for one now. Best of luck, i hope we make it.
I'm sure though that if you made 275 you wouldn't have any problem at all selling them, both on here and on ebay. I'm surprised you have as many preorders as you do, considering you don't have a product to ship.
I just ordered mine. Can't wait to see it!
sketchy sketchy
yea dont forget about all the people not on xda or the other forums your doing this on. if you get close enough where you can afford to invest a little, do it and sell the rest after they are made.

STFU! GET OFF THE BOARDS!
go back in the hairy little hole you crawled out of.
Joey has been upfront with all of us following this project from the start. He is human like the rest of us. first time he has done something like this and im sure he now knows to "measure twice cut once" always check the numbers and check them again to be sure... so we will wait it out and see what happens not a big deal!
We didnt even know if it was going to make production after the first couple days because so many VOTED YES TO THE PROJECT AND THEN DISAPPEARED when it came time to pony up for the pre-order. If people would have kept their word about ordering they would be in production already!
Joey....how many people actually place an order of the 359 that originally voted yes?
Would raising the price of each one by a couple of bucks per door get them to the target without needing more preorders?

I am not sure of the numbers. I dont mind investing my own $ into it.. But I am just trying to get alot closer to that break even point.. If I sell more after, thats great but tbh, I am doing this as a community buy... not trying to get rich (not that I think that is even possible)

Calling someone sketchy is a personal attack.... joey has been upfront with us every step of the way...I only gave you some of your own medicine. That's all nothing more..
It aggravating when you watch someone work their ass off for the community on a project and have half of the people disappear who were supposed to order, then have you call this guy sketchy when hes done nothing but try to make us happy by seeing this project through any way he can... nobody else even came close to a comment like yours.
I followed the thread, saw all the updates, saw members commit money with delay after delay. I understand **** takes time but every post was "here is a final prototype but yours wont look like this" point is, promising something, taking peoples money, then GOING ON VACATION to wait it out IS sketchy whether you can admit it on not. You seem to have a serious personal stake in this or with the op but from an outside perspective it IS sketchy. If the op falls through and refunds everyones money then fine, that doesn't mean the situation was any less sketchy.
You say it wasn't sketchy because he kept everyone up to date, guess what, so do Nigerien scammers. Him keeping everyone updated is not a fool proof reassurance.
Sorry bro. Been holding out until I could see the finished product. Went ahead and ordered because I really want one. Thanks for the time an effort. Will tell my buddies with evos.
If you don't want one, don't send him money and leave the thread. I don't see how hard that is. And it's not that hard to get money back through paypal.

This will be my last reply to you...
This was not a person that had one post and decided to start asking for peoples money..before this went to pre-order he told us of his VACATION and possible delivery dates. I have been involved with community generated projects in the past and they all involved a pre-order because these types of projects are not cheap to get started and not done to make an initial profit, they are to help get something made the community wants and doesn't exist, once the community is taken care of then you try to make money from the project by exploring different ways to market said item at a significantly higher price. He is not a prince from Nigeria sending unsolicited emails trying to get my bank info so that comparison was completely stupid AND HE IS USING PAYPAL! Wait did I mention PAYPAL! Nobody had to western union him cash or transfer cash into his account, so we feel very confident because at the end of the day if this doesn't get to production we WILL ALL GET OUR MONEY BACK BECAUSE HE USED PAYPAL! Easy for him to refund our money and has buyer protection. My personal stake in this -- I want a unique clear and colored battery door for my evo, made in the USA sold in the USA by someone in the community who actually followed thru! Joey took a poll to see how many people would buy one and it was more than enough for this project to move forward! It is not his fault that some people are not doing their part of the project and pre-ordering to get these to production.
Like I said this is my last response to you regarding this thread...you are officially on my ignore list.

Source of rumor? I just unlocked my WP7 but it can go out the Windows if it means I get C&P and faster app launching.
by the way Microsoft assured that the will support homebrew applications in future updates, son no longer need to patch the phone...
Who knows if they'll actually follow through with it? I also doubt they'll start that initiative with this update. They got more important stuff to tend to first.

I hope it is right as i do get off work early on a Monday lol i'm more interested in the Nokia rumor as the wp7 is already perfect for me so i'm more interested in keeping its future alive as i don't want to go to iPhone or BB and Android is really more suited as a tablet os imho.

Calm down ladies...enough cat fighting. Its all good. If it comes out today, awesome. If it doesn't, oh well.
First CTIA announcement was delayed, then later an announcement without carriers or release dates. Two weeks later and till no US carrier release information. Seems odd considering the other recent "super phone" announcements came with carrier information, release dates, and pricing. Also the usual parties have not received production review units which I'd expect by now.
Even announcing puts the brakes on product purchases of competing models. Look how many people withheld purchases of smart phones the entire quarter prior to an expected iPhone release. Why announce and hold if reducing product competition was the goal?
The only thing I can think of is to steal some of Apple's iOS 5 thunder. Show that Google's Android 4.0 is moving forward too even if it's not really ready.
What do you think?

Even I felt it was odd that there is no official US release announcement yet. I just hope the unlocked GSM model gets released this month. I don't mind paying the full price.
I have to admit I would not have been this anxious if I did not loose my Nexus One . It's hard to survive with a 5 year old phone.

Well, Verizon did say we're getting the Galaxy Nexus "later this year"... But that's about the only US release information to date.
US carriers just released the old galaxy S II. They want to actually sell some and not have everyone wait 45 days for the newer / better device.
I think its slightly unnerving that theres quite a bit of silence from Google when they've already announced a date for Europe.
I think its because they're trying to work with carriers this time. Whereas with the Nexus S they clearly didn't try that hard. Part of that is pretty much requiring that they get VZW (thats why they made the LTE version), and the other part is trying to push it to more carriers too.
We'll see. I'm not "worried" about it, just curious.
If by next week we still don't have the LTE version labels released by the FCC, then something is curious.

If that is the reason then why announce in the first place. By announcing they are in fact causing a lot of people to wait and not buy the Galaxy S2, myself included.

Normal people don't do this. Only nerds do. You're way off base if you think any normal person knows what a "Nexus" phone is, or cares enough to hold off buying a new phone when they're ready to make a purchase.

You're not alone mate. Here in Europe we have a date but what does it mean? Is it just for the 16 GB version? If yes when does the 32GB arrive? Not a single shop here has a confirmed date when it is in store so we're in the same situation. We can just wait and search the web for infos.

Indeed. I'm constantly looking for information about the 32 GB version as I really need the space and I find it frustrating that there is no information about it. I even asked Samsung Sweden about it and they have yet to reply. They did reply to my other questions I asked them earlier about the GN but not this.
It's pathetic. Google and Samsung screwed up a chance to take the spotlight from 4s.
Carriers ***** slapped both if them and they complied.
Nothing short of bad management to have ZERO information or street dates this far after announcement. The *few weeks* bull**** stopped being believable after gingerbread.
Agreed. I'm not going to reopen any old wounds, because they might be egocentric as another member or two posted, but this is not how you do it.
I just keep looking at that original Nexus One launch and hang my head. If those people involved could only see to now? Dear god they'd be ashamed, I would think.
The more frustrating thing is Google really is so big, the only other people that can bull them into releasing info are more corrupt and more interest centric than Google itself. The actual people that will use the device day in and out, I feel there is no one to speak for our interests.
It would be nice if we could twitter Rubin himself: A number of users, with a simple message: You should be ashamed of the GN launch. #Nexus Fail

Don't forget it was meant to be announced a week or two before it actually was, so that would have been even earlier.
So far all we have had is either conflicting information, or none at all. Samsung confirmed yesterday that release in the UK would be on the 17th, and literally a matter of hours later retailers are saying this has now been pushed back to w/c 21st
They have lost quite a bit of momentum with the delays and confusion imo. My attitude has gone from "wow, I need this phone now" to "do I really need a new phone?".
I will probably still buy it though
I bet they're still wringing out bugs/issues.
The conspiracy theorist in me says there are patent issues to work out.
My guess is they will never disclose why the launch has been delayed. But I do agree, it's likely lawyers, not engineers involved in the delay.
I like to feel special. If less people have it, it makes me more special.
I had a Samsung Wave in the U-S-of-A. I felt special. Until I started hating it for being so special (Samsung store didn't work in the US).

For some reason I have my doubts about this. Not just that, but there is no link anywhere, just screenshots, which can be easily faked. This kind of thing happens in the gaming console arena all the time. People just do it for attention. Until a recognized developer we KNOW (on here preferrably......hsbadr????) can confirm this, Im going to rule it as fake.

Although, he has some petty good video of startup, reboot, and maintaining root...as well as showing root checker etc. so time will tell.
The guys a FRAUD. The XDA mods locked down his thread cause he was posting lies about permanent root which he willfully failed to show verity upon request. He is only looking for attention by means of "Thanks." pay him no attention. He's a troll. lol

So there is no reliable system yet to root the Note 4?

Agreed. I don't understand why everyone is so uppity. What's the harm in just being patient and having a "wait and see" attitude, instead of calling him a fraud and dropping the ban hammer just because he hasn't revealed details yet. Unless we know for certain that he hasn't achieved root, then I don't think we should push him away, even if we don't like his methods. Keep in mind that there is a language barrier here also, so there may be some misunderstanding.
He already said many times he wasn't going to release it. He said it would hurt his business and Samsung would patch it.
Which translates to I've found something that will work on many Samsung devices so if I release it I won't be able to use it to make money in my business, because having a solution for only the Verizon note 4 is not going to do his business much good as he is from outside US.

All you have to do is look at his past post. He did the same thing with an LG device. Posting he has achieved root when he had not. When the mods finally asked him to provide proof he declined to answer. When he's been contacted on his site, his number, etc, etc, he declines to answer the question and left the LG community it's in a complete disarray. We don't need people posting root achieved notices just to get their thanks scores higher. The Note 4 community it's has been thru enough already. And if it was going to hurt his business to release the method, then why release I've achieved root. No thanks, the guys a complete fraud.
I can appreciate that reasoning, thanks.
Here a genuine question, not trying to be argumentative:
How is this situation with vnmobile different than the video posted showing the Galaxy S5 bootloader unlock?
http://www.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5-bootloader-has-been-unlocked/
It appears that this dev (beaups) does not plan to release his methods either, yet he is not treated with the same disdain as vnmobile. Granted it appears that beaups has earned respect previously, but at the end of the day the same question remains: what is the purpose of sharing the video?
This guy definitely a fraud. His real name is Ngoc Vu and he's running a business selling tech equipments in Vietnam. Let me throw a few things on the table here.
1) Language barrier issue - Nope I speak his language and had visit his website and his facebood page. Just full of shi...
2)Hurt his business if he released the root fix? Another bull sh... 2 ways he could make money. a) release the fix and collect over 20k cash from XDA b) Offer a service to root the phone with a fee. Guess what? none existed.
Summary - he just want to drive traffic to his web site, and make his business more visible to the world specially XDA where everyone interested in cell phone/tablet and electronic equipments. Case closed!

Pls Forgive him!!!
I can't be the only one who's noticed that there's a bunch of people on this forum, who for whatever reason seem to be on some kind of campaign. These people are insisting that Note 7 owners must power them off and return them and they take every opportunity to say that the phone is a huge danger and that no only must all handsets be returned, but that the networks and Samsung must block the devices. It goes far beyond the occasional post and the odd comment. It's repeated, vitriolic, aggressive, confrontational and dogmatic.
Fine upstanding citizens these people may be and perhaps they are so motivated to ensure the safety of their fellow humans. But I seriously doubt that. I doubt most of them surely don't care a damn about the safety of other phone users. So what's driving this campaign of vitriol? Why are these people not simply making their point and moving on? Is it because they have surrendered their devices and don't like others still enjoying their Note 7's? is it because they are somehow feeling inadequate and feel the need to demonstrate their superiority?
I can't remember circumstances before where so many self-rightous, sanctimonious vigilantes have sprung up who seem hell bent on TELLING others what they must do.
I'd like to say to all of them, what people do with their own Note 7's is a matter entirely for them, their supplier and their mobile operator. That's it. Beyond that, it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
For those with eyes. IRIS = SIRI, reverse engineering.

On a serious Note, yes there are moles on here. Think different? Think for yourself! If you want to keep your Note 7, then do it! The only "proof" that there ever was a fault was through the media. Remember, the media is not your friend!
Happy to still keep using mine (is slated for swap out to S7E which is not the phone I forked out $1350 for, that is for sure!)
My phone survived a huge cooking with the Oculus dodgy update, so I feel it is one of the good ones
I know some users here who definitely match your discussed behaviour though!

I was actually thinking of making a thread exactly like this.
I, too, have noticed this. I truly think they are former Note 7 owners who wish they'd kept their devices. They know they made the wrong choice giving it up, and are now stuck using a device that has half the features. And as they stare at their crappy phone, they fill with rage that other people still have Note 7s and are enjoying them to the fullest.
Nobody is taking my Note 7 away from me, that's for sure. This device is so far ahead of everything else. It's better than 90% of 2017's devices will be.
I had the exact same thoughts as well. Very unlike XDA forum members, who are in general all about doing whatever they want with their devices, regardless of who says what.
I will be returning mine for a refund at the latest possible moment, since unfortunately the idea of keeping it indefinitely with no future updates and no Oculus support, doesn't work for me.
But it's kind of irrelevant what I will be doing with mine. The point is, it's entirely up to me and I am sick and tired of people who I don't know, nor care to know, telling me THEY know better.

I don't miss mine one bit. Care to keep generalizing? Maybe we just don't want our aircraft cabins filled with toxic fumes from smoldering batteries, as UNLIKELY as an event that may be. I for one don't mind people keeping their N7's. Do what you will. I do find it comical that people with small children in the home are hardcore defending keeping the device, however. Even though the slightest possibility of a device going up in smoke is slim to none, the safety of my family comes first. No amount of iris scanners and expandable storage can make up for a potential fire hazard in the home.
this forum is about people interesred in this device, I got my replacement, and I am happy with it, besides my carrier will keep a one year warranty, so, it is a good deal for me, in my country there is no mandatory recall, so, they can not force anybody to surrender the phone, also by no means , they wont block/deactivate remotely, as it woul be considered against your consumer rights, I started a thread about over sensitive s pen, and only thing I got was "get rid of your note7" in my opinion, this kind of replies defeat the entire purpose of this portal, that is helping and improving, there are lots of people keeping their note7, so, whoever returned, or backed from a note 7, should show some respect to those keeping it

What country are you in out of interest. I'm in the UK and I'm not entirely sure if it's voluntary or mandatory. Also if it is voluntary then we may still get some updates which at the very least means security patches. I hope.

It is evident on other Android Forums too, I got "Warnings" and had my Posts outright Deleted when I posted this link:

I agree. I was actually an unfortunate Pre-ordered Note 7 customer who never got theirs in time due to the recall and have even posted asking if anyone who has one instead of returning it I would buy it from them. It was ignored by a moderator who in turn replied to the previous poster asking if they had received their 'fireproof' return shipping box.
Either these are shills or are just hypnotized by the recent mass media campaign and genuinely believe the Note 7's are dangerous. Yet you need to question that when you post clear evidence that even today's news is showing iPhones exploding and destroying cars.
People are either brainwashed or are working undercover counter intelligence

I don't plan on taking my personal phone (Note 7 w8) into an airplane. I plan on using my work iPhone for that.
Nor do I have children.
And if all you see is an iris scanner and expandable storage when you look at the Note 7, then this device isn't for you anyways.
Check out the Samsung.com website of your country. To see if the recall is voluntary or mandatory. All sites will ask you to power down and exchange for another Galaxy model ?

I've not posted in the various other threads on this topic but to the starter of this thread, how would you feel if someone posted pretty much what you said but instead of talking about the note 7 it was talking about drinking and driving?
Many of us live in societies with incredible levels of self entitlement. People believing that they are special and rules don't apply to them. It's not really about YOUR safety it's about the safety of people around you. That is the real issue. While some of the people who are keeping their phones may never take it outside their house I don't for a second believe that none of them will take them on planes, subways, etc. Just like drinking and driving you may get away with it for a very long time but it only takes one time to change your life forever. In order to keep a note 7 as normal it requires you to actively circumvent updates from Samsung. If something goes wrong and someone dies there will be no "I didn't realize" defense. You absolutely will be going to jail.
As for myself I surrendered my note 7 yesterday. I was sad to see such a great phone go to waste but I have no regrets. I respect my safety and that of others around me too much to take a risk. I fly frequently and don't need any headaches like this.
I don't for a second think that Samusung is taking this **** kicking, both financially and to their reputation for fun. I think it's wise to heed their advice and replace the phone.

Not planning too. I know it's a waste of time trying to convince people so I don't try. You asked a question, I answered it.
And you never answered my question.

Thanks.
EDIT: Sorry I missed your question. The answer is, the two are not comparable. Drinking and driving is proven to be extremely dangerous. Note 7's are proven to be pretty safe. The issue is that they are not as safe as some people would like, but to compare the levels of risk to that of driving a car whilst drunk, is misleading.
There's already a flight ban in place and people I would imagine are sensible enough to respect that. I know I would. And regards the public safety risk more generally, NO-ONE has suffered serious injury and there have been no deaths out of 4 million units shipped. Worst case, the device is going to catch fire and guess what - people will put it out. The idea that automatically when a phone catches fire then some kind of apocalypse occurs, is also misleading. These are fundamentally fairly safe devices. Samsung however necessarily look at it down the other end of the telescope since they are responsible for all 4 million devices and whereas the chance of you or I having an issue with our phone is very very low, the chances of Samsung having an issue with one of the 4 million of their phones, is very very high. That's why they needed to cancel the phone, not because any one phone is intrinsically dangerous - it is not.
I am of the belief that some, not all, of the owners who returned their Note 7's would be better served with an iPhone anyways. Those are the one's that take a shine toward being dominated in every aspect of their lives.
