Thinking of pixel xl in blue - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Should I jump on it I finally got Verizon and would love to try it. I'm rocking a iPhone 7plus 128 right now but will sell it if I fall in love with the pixel xl anyone been where I am? How happy are you guys with the blue one 32gb that is

Just ordered the Blue XL 32 GB from the play store. Currently have an Axon 7. Eagerly awaiting this phone as my current device is a major letdown.

I have the Blue 32 gigabyte version I love it I just wish it came in 128 gigabytes. But I have a hundred twenty-eight gigabyte USB to USB type-c adapter bandwidth unlimited Google photo backup that's a plus.

I have blue and I love it. Was gonna get white but I'm glad I didn't. Everyone is gonna be asking you what phone you have so be ready.

I'm waiting for the blue housing to show up on eBay, and I'm going to change my QB 128 to blue with a black screen.

5T vs. XL 2 with new pricing

Hey all, I know this is a bit of a rehash from prior threads, but given pricing changes and new phones on the horizon, I fig'd I'd reach out and see what everyone thinks. I'm finally ready to move on from my Nexus 6 which has been great for years. Customizing is really important to me, so I had settled between the OnePlus5T and Pixel XL 2. I've read all the early pro's and cons, seems updates have fixed some of the early issues noted and I have a pretty good sense of the hardware differences.
It seemed price was the biggest difference initially, but now Verizon has the XL 2 marked down to $549 if you pay in monthly installments. Add $30 upgrade fee and that's $579 over two years vs OnePlus 5T I can get for $475 right now with student discount.
So the questions is, is the 5T still the better deal given the only ~$100 price difference??
Would love some expert opinions!
Well, I've been there myself a couple of months back. I had the problem that the Pixel 2 XL isn't available in Austria leading to extremely high prices. I would have had to pay close to € 1000 for it in Germany which was nothing I would ever have considered. The things that came to my mind:
Google Pixel 2 XL:
+ Front Facing Stereo Speakers
+ Google AOSP
+ Better Support at least for RMA
+ USB 3.1 for faster transferring speeds
+ Higher display resolution
+ Optical image stabilisation
+ IP67 certification
OnePlus 5T:
+ Headphone jack
+ No rounded corners (only slightly on the software side)
+ More RAM (2 or 4 GB more which comes in handy)
~ "Downgrading" from 500 ppi to 400 ppi is noticable if you get close to the screen which I sometimes do. However it does not bother me. For VR it probably would be an issue.
~ Ringer switch (I like it but it prevents me from using Tasker for auto silent etc.)
Of course there are more differences but these came to my mind and were relevant to me. E.g. the OnePlus 5T has a dual-camera but in practice it doesn't make a noticeable difference. Especially the headphone jack was important so I'm preferring the phone with headphone jack. Every year that I still have it, is a good one.
[UPDATE] I've added some additional differences I forgot. More information can be found here too: https://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/OnePlus-5T,Google-Pixel-2-XL/phones/10695,10568
You cannot flash custom ROM's on any Verizon Pixel, the last time I checked.

Blue Shift Still An Issue

I have read/watched a lot recently about how the Pixel 2 XL's issues have been "fixed" so I thought I would try one for myself. The first screen that comes up when you boot the device is all white, so I had a chance to immediately see if the blue shift was in effect. I am sorry to say it is TERRIBLE. As you can see from the attached image, my Nexus 6P shows a white screen while the Pixel 2 XL screen is quite blue, and the effect is worse in person.
This is very disappointing, and I wanted to let everyone know that this is still an issue. I guess it's not true that Google did something to fix this issue on the hardware/manufacturing side. About 2 hours after delivery, I already have everything boxed up and ready to ship back to Google. The Google chat rep tried to give me the line of "This is how advanced POLED technology works" but I told her to just look at the picture again. My Nexus 6P has almost no blue shift at all even at more extreme angles. Just sitting on the table in front of me should not make the screen turn blue. I use my phone like that a lot, so this would be something I would notice often on the Pixel2 XL
I have owned more Android and Nexus phones than I can count, and I am not trying to hate here. I just want to voice my disappointment and communicate to the community that this issue is still a thing.

I never heard it was ever fixed just that it is not really a nusense for people wanting all the other benefits vs the 6p I still prefer the colder pixel 2xl white over the warm 6p white but the Sony Xperia xz2 phones have the best I have seen but I have not seen newer Samsung phones that claim to have the best screen
Over the 3 I would still choose the pixel 2xl

Yeah i notice the same. But honestly in day to day use it isn't bad enough for me to consider another phone. I bought mine in November from VZW so it may be a newer model with this fixed to some extent

I just got the phone delivered TODAY. I checked the IMEI and the manufacture date is January 9th. That's not terribly recent but still months after release.
I might order another one after I get a refund and see if it is the same, but that would be my last attempt. I should not have to gamble and rely on luck to get a phone that I can use at a slight angle and not have the damn thing turn blue. This is ridiculous.
I never look at my phone in such extreme angles. If anything, your Nexus 6P looks too yellow to me in that angle. It's far from the best but head on it's fine enough for me.

I don't think having the phone on the table in front of me like that is an "extreme angle". I put my phone on the table next to my laptop like that all the time, so I would notice this daily. True I would not have a Nexus 6P sitting next to it to compare it to, but now that I already know the screen on this Pixel 2 XL turns blue my brain will keep making the association.
HAZ DISSAPOINT!!!

Just use the phone. It's not that serious.
I just received my phone this week...I have VERY slight blue showing at off angles, not enough for me to exchange or care. Previous phone was a Moto X Pure....This phone is amazing.

Just use the phone dude. It's been released for almost 6 months and you still complaining about such silly issue? If it's that bad for you then simply pick another phone.

I guess I didnt realize people were still complaining about this. Ive had my P2XL for about 4 months now and this has not been an issue, let alone a deal breaker for me at all. And I too came from the 6P. In fact, I had to get my 6P out a couple of weeks ago, and having them side by side, I cant believe the difference in the screens. The P2XL looks much better to me. Is there some blue in the screen at extreme angles? Yes. Does it detract from the performance of the phone or any of its features? No. The 6P was, in my opinion, the best phone Ive owned of many, many, many Android phones, but the P2XL has easily replaced it as my #1.
Dont bother getting another one. We'll just see another post saying, "A week later and blue shift still not fixed! ZOMG!".

1. "Still complaining about..." : How can I "still complain" about a device I just bought?? It just arrived yesterday. I bought one and gave it a chance before commenting.
2. "... such silly issue": It's not a silly issue to me, and for you to say so is kinda rude. Who are you to tell me what is a deal-breaker on a device I spent my own money on?
3. "Simply pick another one"?? What other 6-inch, Google-made, clean-Android device is there? There is no other choice.
You and others can accept the device for what it is if you want. I don't want to spend $700 for a device that has an issue I will notice every day for the next 1-2 years.

1. You knew what you were getting into. It's had the shift since day one.
2. You didn't even give the phone a chance. Your pic was still at the setup screen. Seriously, you can get used to it.
3. He didn't say pick another Google phone. There's a good handle of alternatives with better screens if it is that serious to you.

This is good info, so thanks!! Your phone was made about a month after mine, so maybe that has an effect. I hope that if I get another one it is like yours and I can keep it.

I got mine last week from Google, black 64 and it has way less of a shift than my brothers v30. I would say mine totally shifts blue at about 45 degrees from dead on, his does almost right away. His phone is 3 months old now. Not sure of his build date. Mine was December '17
In my experience oled panels always experience some shifting. Even the iPhone x I've handled.

Looking at your picture the Pixel 2 XL looks better. Sure, it looks to have a very cool color temperature but it's also next to a Nexus 6P which is too warm(reddish). The Pixel 2 XL in that picture is much closer to neutral white. Also that's a pretty extreme angle. Mine is about the same at that angle and at normal viewing angles it looks great. It certainly isn't the BEST display I've seen in my entire life in terms of color temperature but it is good. Certainly better than the Nexus 5X I had before which was too cool even at direct viewing and better than the Nexus 6P which is too warm.

You will get a colour shift on almost any AMOLED device you can purchase. I have two Galaxy Note 8 phones sitting next to me, and they both shift red and pink off angle. So would you rather have a slightly cool shift when you look at your phone off angle? or a red / pink hue?
The S8+ shifts as does the S9+.
I notice it, but it does not bother me, as it is NOT an issue.
Use it for a week or two, don't obsess over it, use the display head on like 99% of people do, and you will forget it soon enough.
Cooler displays are much better than the reddish or yellowish displays of iphones or samsungs.

Thank you very much for telling me how to use my device, that I paid for and own. It never would occur to me to NOT use the device the way I want to, but to DO WHAT OTHER PEOPLE DO REGARDLESS OF WHAT I WANT. That makes so much sense I don't know why it never occurred to me. /s
As for "other screens have color shift too", that's irrelevant. Yes, my Nexus 6P has some, but it's slight and only at really crazy angles. That's why I posted a picture of the two side-by-side. I had both of them in my hands, and compared them myself. One (6P) had a very acceptable level of shift, the other (Pixel 2 XL) was not acceptable.
I guess the good news for me is that so many of you have phones that don't show much blue shift. That means that if I order another one, I have a decent chance to get one that's better.
My Pixel 2 XL has the issue but I never notice it. I look at my phone normally, not on a weird angle that means I cannot see the top right corner. That's the bit I don't get, you have to twist the viewing angle to a position that makes using the screen useless anyway and then rant it's got a blue tint. You can't see the text properly anyway so why do you want to use your phone at the angle? Lots of screens have tints if you view them at the WRONG angle.
How's this for an issue?:
I've had my 2 xl for about 2 weeks. It's a refurb from Amazon deal.of the day.
The display generally has the colder blue whites, which I like, that my preference. But, sometimes while using it, the white background on the screen will suddenly switch to this warm-ish white, seems pinkish to me. I'll try to use my phone off axis when it does that because I prefer the cold blue whites (like my essential phones display, - I LOVE that display)
Anyone else experiencing anything like this? I googled it and am not seeing anything - other people comaining about blue shift. (I'd like it to have 'blue shift' all the time lol)
FWIW: all the refurbs Amazon sold seem to be VZW branded, and I'm on Jan 05 2019 SW update. (Oh, and of course I'm pissed the refurbs are VZW, didn't know until it arrived, was so looking forward to unlocked bootloader and root and joining custom ROM community again.

should i swap my Op6 for the pixel 2xl?

hey guys,i rly miss the FP pull down qs/notification features that were in most roms (on my prvious phone 6p) and that is not available for op6.
it just has tap features and it's wonky as heck, was wondering if that's available on the pxl2?
here's the headache, my op6 is the 128gb/8ram version and the swap deal is a pxl2xl 64gb pxl2 is 4ram only i guess?
but from what I've read it's almost the same in speeds with comparison to the 8ram op6 even with the snap835 vs the 845, anyways i rly like the design of pxl2xl but do you guys think i shouldn't swap?
how bad is the tint issue ? (i dont mind the blue tint thing)
I'm more worried about image sticking permanently onto the phone or banding type of things.
op 6 screen is gorgeous though not quad hd. display is vibrant and shows wider range of colors. the only downside of pixel 2 xl is the screen, not bad but i wish it was better. i kept my xl but flipped the op6 for s9+. in hand feel, look and overall xl is a better choice imo. hope it helps, cheers pal. btw the newer batch of pixel 2 xl has less issues with its display than before, check the production batch if possible.
I owned the 6 and ended up selling it to come back to my 2 XL.
The mic quality was horrible on the 6 and there was even one evening where I recorded a bunch of videos to find out the audio didn't even get recorded when I went to watch them the next day...
The vibration motor also seems cheap compared to the 2 XL and the camera is not as good either.
I also had lots of false fingerprint scans on the 6, whereas the 2 XL reads my finger accurately 99.9% of the time.
I'll admit though, the screen was better on the 6 despite having a lower resolution. Also, the additional RAM did seem to make a difference but I don't mind apps having to reload every once in a while on my 2 XL.
Overall, I definitely think the 2 XL is better, the storage size really depends on how much you need and if you think you can get away with 64 GB.
Finally, the Pixel 3/XL are going to be announced in October, just something to think about. Hope this helped!
Never had the opportunity oppo 6, but I rate my Pixel XL2 as one of my favorite devices Camera is incredible, great development, etc.!
Oh, and we don't have a notch!

Custom Aura Blue Note 10 Plus

I got rid of my Note 10 Plus in the Aura Black after seeing the Aura Blue Note 10 Plus. The Aura Blue is one of the best colors I've ever seen. As soon as I saw it I knew instantly what it would look like and I would do. Finally picked up the Aura Blue and I already had what I was going to use with it. I'm a huge Marvel Cap America fan which was my first thought after I envisioned the look I wanted. Here are a couple pics of my Captain America Note 10 Plus

It is a awesome blue color. The blue blue S Pen with the aura blue is a little different than the aura glow blue s Pen. The aura blues blue s Pen is entirely blue push button clicker and all where the aura glow blue s Pen has a silver push button clicker. That's why I want the red note 10 6.3 inch now because my blue push button clicker is blue and the frame of the red note 10 is red so the contrast would pop or stand out like it does on my aura blue with red s Pen. I'll attach a picture. Look at the end of the s Pen. My blue is all one color but the aura glow has a silver end to match the silver frame.
Another couple of pictures I took today with my new new little known flagship, not killer but a full blown flagship that most call mid range but it has no weakness much like the Note 9 and does everything as one of the best but so happens Asus priced it at a price so unheard of for a full flagship that its preferred to as a mid range device often. Only its price suggests mid range. If you handled one knowing the exact flagship specs, they and OnePlus cleary prove that the $1000+ priced flagships are overpriced by around 200 dollars. Anyways I took the picture with the Asus Zenfone 6z
Great photos , what camera was used ?

What color did you get?

What color did you get or do you plan on getting?
I ended up with the black but I was really debating on the gray. It was really hard to tell what the gray really looked like in all of the pictures. The lighting always made it look different.
I was pretty disappointed in the color options this year. How do you feel about it?
Got the grey
Got black and I am also disappointed with the color options. I even asked Samsung if I can get the bundled Buds+ in black but they only ship white, ehkem with a 1349€ phone... Nevertheless I got into some discussion with their support and they gave me two additional wireless chargers that cost 60€ each.
I never really understood why there is mostly such a trend that top phones get less color options. Note 10 was banging and S20U is like duuuuuh... Maybe they thought that everyone will use a case because of that camera bump but it is not a good argumentation though.
Grey cuz black is kinda boring. I bet they’ll come out with another color in a few months.
Cosmic Gray
I'm not going to limit the phone I wanted to get due to a cir preference so obviously I got the only color available which was black. Stupid how they do that but whatever. Provided it was an option I would've gotten gray.
Like most people have already stated, colors were boring this year. Black was unoriginal, grey seemed too basic. I chose black.
Black, because only Black was 512GB.

Interesting. In Canada, only the Grey is 512GB.
In the UK only Grey is 512GB Ultra
And its exactly what I ordered ?
Black, because that was the only option for 512GB. I wanted the Grey.
Samsung, you disappoint with the color options as usual. I wanted a white Note 10+, had to get black. At least do ceramic or something like you did with the S10+ 1Tb, that was cool for the crazy price we are paying
Black 512 for me too, I always regretted not getting the s7 in the shiny silver colour, I wouldn't mind seeing that again.

I appreciate that I couldn't get grey in 512, made me realize I upgrade so much that getting the 512 in black isn't very smart since generally it will be worth about the same as the 128 when I upgrade.
I can understand why it would be less than ideal for others, but for me it worked out
Black because I haven't had it since the S2
Ordered black as it hides the camera bump best
Got Black. Thought everyone will go for grey. I might stand out. Also black is the only model with 512Gb
yeah I ordered the Black 512gb and I actually held the S20 ultra black today at best buy, and I`m glad I ordered the black one it looks lot better with the bigger camera bump, and doesn`t stand out like it does on the grey.
