RCS Issues - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Good afternoon,
I am wondering if anyone here has been able to get RCS going through Android Messages? I am with Rogers in Canada, who have enabled RCS however I cannot get the "enable enhanced messaging" options to show up on my phone in the latest version of Android Messages (2.1.163). If you have been successful, can you report what ROM you are using?
After contacting Rogers, all they can offer to tell me is they can only confirm it will work on Rogers branded phones. I figure maybe because this is an unbranded and unlocked device, my phone isn't getting flagged on their network to enable this feature. So I began exploring build.prop options and added the following line with no success (as of yet): persist.rcs.supported=1
Anyhow if anyone has advice they could share it would be really appreciated!

I have a feeling it has something to do with Roger's side. Rogers only enables VoLTE on certain phone models, I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same with RCS.

I'm having the exact same issue, would be nice if somebody else could chime in on it. Been trying to get RCS for the past month with no avail.
I'm tempted to pop my sim card into a rogers branded phone and see if the banner comes up
EDIT: Just realized this post is almost 2 months old, to OP; Did you eventually get RCS yet or is it still not working?

[Q] Has there been a solution for the MMS issues? AT&T Unlocked on T-Mobile

I have spent hours searching online and XDA reading posts with no luck. I wanted to see if there has been a solution to this ongoing issue that I overlooked. Not having MMS is a huge deal breaker for me, unfortunately if I can't get it to work I'll be going back to my Nexus 5. I was wondering if anyone has MMS working for T-Mobile? If there was a solution? It has not worked for me in any of the listed messaging apps...
Some things I've tried:
Played around with T-Mobile APN settings (from T-Mobile site and user recommended here at XDA)
Tried Textra app, HTC messaging app, Hangouts
Turned off WiFi
Things I have not tried:
Turning off WiFi calling (AT&T unlocked version doesn't have it)
Flashed any ROMs
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
S-off and switch to a T-mobile branded version of the operating system?
Still might not work flawlessly, as T-mobile and AT&T use different bands for some things, but it might be worth a shot.
Same problem here. Can receive texts...not send them....
Search how to Flash t-mobile RUU and you will have wi-fi calling plus working mms and all radios.

Ported AT&T from Cricket (AT&T), nxtgenphone APN gives no data?????

So I jumped on the AT&T/DirecTV Unlimited data deal and ported my phone today. It all looked normal and I got the activation texts and such - it even populated the nxtgenphone APN info (though it was deselected and I had to select it). Anyway, I've had no data at all. As a test, I switched the APN to phone and data works, but the speeds appear to be much lower than what my wife's iPhone is seeing on the nxtgenphone APN. Anyone got any tips?
I'm running Viper 2.5, latest US unlocked firmware and US unlocked selected as carrier, and it works fine on AT&T other than this......only other thing I can mention is when I select preferred band or whatever it shows WCDMA/GSM and if I change it to WCDMA/GSM/LTE it reverts back for some reason. Any help much appreciated. I've called AT&T and they're like, uh, we don't sell the HTC 10 so can't really help you... grrrrrr.....

I'd suggest ruu to stock us unlocked rom and see if the issue persists.
Or, try clean flash of viper.
I have no issues using US unlocked on AT&T with both stock rom and ice.
Thanks for trying to help. I just finished trying stock RUU and same problem. I'm convinced, as I was before, that this is AT&T's issue. I've read numerous posts this afternoon that because the HTC 10 (and other phones) aren't in their "LTE approved" database, nxtgenphone APN won't work, or it will only give HSPA speeds. Seems like everyone who has resolved it, or didn't run into the issue at all had another AT&T LTE phone they could use for the IMEI on the account, or the rep entered the model as an iPhone or similar to make it work. Really, really frustrating, as they refuse to help me and I'm starting to think I should just terminate in the 14 day window and do T-mobile or Verizon.
I have at&t and everything worked out of the box, I've never been on stock rom, always on Viper I did the unlock and s-off without a sim and never had an issue or called at&t to activate the device I just transferred my sim from my note 4 to the HTC 10, no provisioning issues at all, VOLTE works, LTE is fine as well while on a phone call... No issues... If you need anything to compare let me know

Thanks for replying. They did confirm it was a provisioning issue and they fixed it today. They had to do something different, as the default HTC 10 provisioning and IMEI check didn't fix it even when they tried it a second time, but they were able to adjust something and LTE definitely works now. VoLTE working here, too. Thanks!

Galaxy S9 Software Update

I have a Galaxy S9 (SM-960U) purchased from T-Mobile, but unlocked and running with an AT&T SIM (among others, at times). Up until today, the phone was running the stock T-Mobile ROM which received various software updates on a monthly or every two month interval. I've installed them as they were released (while running various non-T-Mo SIM cards) and the latest was October 1, 2018. Today, I clicked the "Software Update" function and saw that a new update was available. When it installed and restarted, I noticed that the phone was running an AT&T branded ROM, along with the typical AT&T bloatware (e.g., CNN, Groupon, Amazon, AT&T-specific apps) that was not previously installed.
The other thing I noticed was that the phone now is only connecting to HSPA and HPSA+ networks, whereas before it would also connect to LTE.
I'm not sure why I suddenly received and installed an AT&T-branded ROM today when my S9 and all of my previous devices were fine running the T-Mo ROM and receiving updates as they were released. Does anyone have any insights as to what caused this change and whether future ROM updates will be carrier-specific based on the inserted SIM? In the past month I've used SIMs in Vietnam and Japan and it seems odd that ROMs would suddenly be based on the carrier of the day.
Also, any ideas about restoring LTE service? I've tried removing the SIM and powering off the device a few times, but no dice. This was a network/account-problem when I initially ported over to AT&T from T-Mo which took a lot of troubleshooting at the store (unsure of actual root cause), but it seems odd that a software update on the device would undo that.
The latest update (3BRJ5) is BYOD firmware. With B firmware, a carrier sim will change the csc of your phone to match the network you are connected on. Good luck getting LTE back, I have no idea on that.
*#*#4636#*#* entered into phone dial. That will allow to select preferred network type in device information.

you have to change APN setting on the menu to reflect AT&T network. let me know if it works by changing APN.. I used to have S9+ tmobile and I was waiting for this BYOD update but i traded in my s9+ already =/ i have note 9 unlocked now..

The issue required a visit to the AT&T store, where they replaced the SIM and reset some of the network features on the back end of my account. This required a call to the retail technical support team and about 45 min. No settings were changed on the phone. The APN settings were already configured correctly (which I had confirmed as a part of initial troubleshooting).
The phone works fine now, though some features like AT&T HD Voice and the AT&T Call Protect app still don't work. I've tried contacting them twice about it and they opened a ticket but it hasn't helped. These aren't features I used before so I don't really care.

Keep in mind though that HD voice only available to postpaid At&t only not prepaid and they do required special sim card for hd voice but since you already changed sim card then the problem is not the sim card. You can try and dial #*#*4636*#*# and see if Volte is provisioned.. I wish i had my s9+ from tmobile but i dont have it anymore i was waiting for that byod software update.. Hd voice should work on BYOD custimization update on at&t

Wifi Calling, Verizon Pixel 2XL, using Straight Talk AT&T Sim no option

Hey all, I've been pouring over the forums here and other places trying to find a solution to my issue. I just got a Pixel 2XL the verizon version and I'm using it on Straight Talk with an AT&T sim card. So far so good except I cannot get wifi calling. I'm pure stock, android 9/Pie, no bootloader unlocks/rooting etc. The wifi calling option does not exist in the phone app nor in the settings anywhere. Even when you search for wifi calling, it simply takes you to the network and connections section of settings but wifi calling is no where to be found. I've tried the adb command (the one that apparently used to work on Oreo but not longer does on Pie) and that didn't work (though I didn't expect it to since many people said it no longer works on Pie). I have an Unlocked Note 9 as well and its wifi calling works perfectly fine so does anyone have a way to make this work? Reception at my home is somewhat lacking and I really need wifi calling.
Thanks!

Could you attach a screenshot with the WHOLE section of "Mobile Network", found inside of "Network & Internet" in the Settings -- make sure that you click on the drop down menu next to "Advanced Calling" -- this will help make sure that wifi calling is really missing as well as might point something out that may help with a solution. Moreso, personally, because I can't even imagine what the settings menu looks like missing this...

It might be a long shot but try checking the settings in the Google phone app. There should be a place that says configure IMS calling. I have this setting here and in the network settings. If you have it that's where you can enable wifi calling.

Been there done that. I have no options for setting up IMS calling. I only have SIP options. Also, I have tried the phone dialer trick (where you dial *#*#4636#*#*) and that shows the wifi calling option as a toggle but its greyed out and cannot be enabled. I even tried an adb trick that used to work on the 1st gen pixels, but to no avail.
What happens when you enter your information here?
I'll have to initiate a chat with Straight Talk. Like you I have a Pixel 2 XL with a Straight Talk AT&T SIM. The only difference is that mine is unlocked. I just ran my phone number and the IMEI of the SIM through the linked site and it tells me my device is not compatible. Since I have a BYOP SIM and the IMEI is of the SIM itself, chances are high that the SIM needs replacing with one that includes WiFi calling support.
EDIT: According to the representative I just spoke with, there's no guarantee that changing to a newer AT&T SIM will enable the feature. The only guaranteed method according to tech support is switching to a T-Mobile SIM.

Hey thanks for the help. I tried that link as well (before I posted here; sorry I should have mentioned it) and it said my device is also not compatible. I initiated a chat with them and they told me the same; switch to T-Mobile. I am tempted to do so but the one thing holding me back is my home is already a place I get poor signal and T-mobile's coverage while much improved still isn't as good at AT&T's. I realize that having wifi calling would fix any lingering signal issues but I do manage to get 1-2 bars of 3G at my house with AT&T, I figure I won't even get that with T-Mobile. So I am weary of the switch. I'll have to consider it though. I could also wait for the full rollout of the latest google voice (since it finally is bring VOIP without the need of hangouts) and just use that number instead.
So I contacted Straight Talk and ordered a T-Mobile sim card. It'll be here in a few days. I will post my findings after it arrives. Straight talk support says wifi calling works with all T-Mobile sim cards so we will see.
Hello all,
Okay, so I finally got switched over to a T-Mobile sim card (again still with straight talk). It took a while cause I had to buy a new one (the old one I had expired; who'd have thought?). Anyways, switching to T-Mobile solved all my problems and then some. Not only do I have Wifi calling, but also HD voice, VOLTE, Tethering, and 3-4 bars of LTE (previously on AT&T, I got 1-2 bars of 3G). I realize the signal issues is merely a coverage thing but I can say with certainty that switching to a T-Mobile sim card will give you all the advanced features. I hope this helps others who might experience this problem. I've been using AT&T (in one form or another) for the better part of a decade and can now honestly say, AT&T sucks.

WARNING! V30 (US998 possibly others) No Longer Works Well On TMO

I use TING (a TMO/Verizon MVNO), and upgraded both of my phones to their new "FLEX" plan which came with new "Tmobile X3" sim cards and it pretty much rendered both of my V30 phones useless by removing their VOLTE capabilities despite using stock OREO rom.
They told me that although the V30 is on their "compatibility" list, but don't have entries in TMO's IMS database. Basically, with the new X3 sim installed, I lost all VOLTE/WIFI calling options in my settings, AND I would FREQUENTLY miss phone calls, texts, etc:
"So from what I can find that is a T-Mobile mobile network code aka mnc that is used by dish for their roaming agreement with T-Mobile. It kinda makes sense why volte doesn’t show up as when I went snooping in the log v30 update files to find the ims.apk file it only listed normal T-Mobile and the standard mvno mnc. But didn’t list this or the sprint hybrid T-Mobile mnc. It’s possible there’s an update that can fix this for your device but it appears ting screwed you by moving you to an x3 sim and some other people are having similar issues."
I had these same issues early this year when I manualy upgraded to PIE, but because of the way VOLTE is handled on the US998 I had to downgrade back to OREO to get it back. Well, the new sim removes these options once again, even on OREO.
Anyway, ultimately my fix was to replace both of my V30 units with V35 phones, which work perfectly at this time. It's sad having to stop using two perfectly good phones but it is what it is. Luckily I was able to find them used at good prices, but I felt a need to warn the community here about my experience. The good news is I now have PIE so that's something.
I should warn you the unlock/root method for the V35 is a bit more complicated, but still not all that difficult if you go step by step.

I think you could have gotten VOLTE and VOWIFI to work by following the WTF thread and flashing a non-US998 ROM, no? @ChazzMatt ?
I wonder if this X3 SIM a Ting or T-mobile SIM card? Could this be a Ting-only issue and actual T-mobile SIM card would be fine or other T-Mobile MVNO SIM cards may be fine?
Wow! Interesting.
I've been wondering how the TMO/Sprint merger would play out, and it sounds like they are switching to a new hybrid MNC instead of the old TMO one. And of course Oreo doesn't have that carrier config.
I would think V30 Pie should have it if V35 does. Maybe it doesn't have user interface and must be controlled through Hidden menu. But that's still better than nothing.
Thank you for reporting. You should mention this in @ChazzMatt's ongoing VoLTE thread.
Edit: Chazz mentioned it there

US998 firmware has been open and friendly to T-Mobile. It has all the bands except for LTE band 71 and normally automatically allows VoLTE and VoWi-Fi with T-Mobile SIM card. I remember in another post, and he reiterated it again in this post, that he had to downgrade back to Oreo US998 as Pie US998 wasn't allowing VoLTE and VoWIFI anymore. But then, he uses Ting -- which is a T-Mobile MVNO. No others have mentioned issues like that, so I figured it was just an unusual situation where the MVNO infrastructure isn't communicating properly.
I'm tempted to think that again... unless others with actual T-Mobile SIM card or SIM cards from other T-Mobile MVNOs chime in.
As for other firmware, the AT&T H931 would be compatible with T-Mobile bands as would the Canada H933 -- BUT I don't know if you automatically get T-Mobile VoLTE and VoWi-Fi.

I doubt H931 ROM (AT&T) would give VoLTE on other carriers. And it certainly would not support this new hybrid MNC as we only have a mid-Oreo version of it.
H932 (which my wife uses on Red Pocket AT&T) doesn't allow IMS on other carriers. It has the bands alright and regular voice & LTE, just not VoLTE. I expected to move her to a Red Pocket TMO plan down the road, but if this new hybrid MNC applies to TMO broadly, even H932 may not work long-term. She is on Pie though, so they had a chance to update it.

I'm pretty sure the "X3" SIM card they sent me was a TMobile sim. They also offer a "V1" sim card which is Verizon. They sent me one of those to try as well to try but in all honesty, by the time I ported my number to it to "see" if it would work and if it didn't then I would have to port it back and go through all that hassle.. I did throw the V1 in to see if my VOLTE options appeared.. but they didn't (for what that's worth) so I didn't bother activating it.
I found a couple used V35 ULMs on swappa like new for a really great price so I had to jump on them. I notice my phones now have two APN entries.. one for wireless.dish.com and one for fast.t-mobile.com.
I also received this message from TING, "As for the OS its just a hunch I have as I've noticed some other changes in moving to the X3 that could be related to the difference in IMSI range or the way the SIM is identified by the network. We'll keep digging on our end and if we can find a solution we'll definitely pass it along" of course this was several weeks ago and I've never heard anything since. I would have loved to get my two V30s up and running without playing "phone carrier musical chairs."
At least I'm not sacrificing anything by upgrading to the V35 (other than a little bit of money). I don't regret buying them it just seems so.. wasteful LOL
V35 is an awesome phone in other ways too: 6GB RAM (vs 4GB), SD845 (vs 835). And as discovered by head-fi titan csglinux, its audio output measures significantly better than V30 - while maintaining the DSD and MQA features lost by later LG models. All with the same great form factor as V30.
And now it appears to also have more updated IMS support, which stands to reason.
I kick myself for missing it during the summer 2019 sale when Cricket unloaded AT&T's inventory of unlocked V35 for $150 (as I recall).

I have one, like new in box. The only thing is it's 64GB internal memory. The only 128 V35+ version was sold in Brazil. I was in Brazil for 7 weeks recently and still couldn't find one. Well, not that I had time to look, as we were very busy with other stuff...
But I'm too used to the V30+. My wife uses 64GB V30 and the V35 would be good for her. But I dread the migration.

Yeah that's the thing about V35: Only 64GB. And since it's an A/B device, I assume it has even less available storage than a 64GB V30. I guess if I put all my music files on an SD card it wouldn't be an issue.
I recently switched from Sprint to Mint mobile. I kept the v30+ stock while on sprint and only performed the ls998 to us998 conversion when i ported over. Works like a charm. VoLTE and wifi appear to work just fine for me.

Thank you for reporting!
Can you tell us whether you are seeing the following on your setup (US988 on Mint/TMO):
1) Menus to toggle and configure VoLTE and VoWiFi (WiFi Calling)?
2) Indicator icons on the status bar for VoLTE and VoWiFi?
3) Did you have to use Hidden menu to configure anything?
Thanks again, and in advance!
This is my experience
1) See attached screenshots. I have a persistent notification that i can't seem to hide indicating that calls will be made via wifi when connected to wifi. Also attached are screenshots from inside the phone app's settings.
2) I'm certain I've seen an indicator on top of the phonescreen telling me that an active call was either HD or wifi? For some reason I can't remember. But im certain i saw it.
3) I didn't have to configure anything. I activated over a separate phone with a live representative just to make sure port would go smoothly. No joke, within one minute it was up and running.

Do you get voicemail notifications? Pop-ups?

Thanks a lot for sharing this!
Good to see that US998 is working well on TMO (Mint in your case).
@islandfever: I'm increasingly thinking the logic is no Statusbar indicator as long as the settings are working, i.e. as long as you can make phone calls. It is still puzzling why the indicator in the Hidden menu didn't work for you.

Status bar is not as important... Just trying to find out what rom he is using now...
Right now im using the us99820h rom.
Heres some screenshots of phone use while not on wifi. Theres no notification or status bar icon, but you see it on the dialer button and in an active call on the top left. Pretty sure that means volte is working.
**edit** also - voicemails are not visual voicemail and you have to dial in for them. I believe there is a visual voicemail app that works for tmobile that would also work with mint called "My Visual Voicemail" I haven't installed that yet but might in the future.

@pjsnyc One more question. How does voicemail alert you of a message on Mint? On 20H with Red Pocket and their GSMT SIM i get no notifications . Does it give you a popup or icon in status bar?
