I use TING (a TMO/Verizon MVNO), and upgraded both of my phones to their new "FLEX" plan which came with new "Tmobile X3" sim cards and it pretty much rendered both of my V30 phones useless by removing their VOLTE capabilities despite using stock OREO rom.
They told me that although the V30 is on their "compatibility" list, but don't have entries in TMO's IMS database. Basically, with the new X3 sim installed, I lost all VOLTE/WIFI calling options in my settings, AND I would FREQUENTLY miss phone calls, texts, etc:
"So from what I can find that is a T-Mobile mobile network code aka mnc that is used by dish for their roaming agreement with T-Mobile. It kinda makes sense why volte doesn’t show up as when I went snooping in the log v30 update files to find the ims.apk file it only listed normal T-Mobile and the standard mvno mnc. But didn’t list this or the sprint hybrid T-Mobile mnc. It’s possible there’s an update that can fix this for your device but it appears ting screwed you by moving you to an x3 sim and some other people are having similar issues."
I had these same issues early this year when I manualy upgraded to PIE, but because of the way VOLTE is handled on the US998 I had to downgrade back to OREO to get it back. Well, the new sim removes these options once again, even on OREO.
Anyway, ultimately my fix was to replace both of my V30 units with V35 phones, which work perfectly at this time. It's sad having to stop using two perfectly good phones but it is what it is. Luckily I was able to find them used at good prices, but I felt a need to warn the community here about my experience. The good news is I now have PIE so that's something.
I should warn you the unlock/root method for the V35 is a bit more complicated, but still not all that difficult if you go step by step.

I think you could have gotten VOLTE and VOWIFI to work by following the WTF thread and flashing a non-US998 ROM, no? @ChazzMatt ?
I wonder if this X3 SIM a Ting or T-mobile SIM card? Could this be a Ting-only issue and actual T-mobile SIM card would be fine or other T-Mobile MVNO SIM cards may be fine?
Wow! Interesting.
I've been wondering how the TMO/Sprint merger would play out, and it sounds like they are switching to a new hybrid MNC instead of the old TMO one. And of course Oreo doesn't have that carrier config.
I would think V30 Pie should have it if V35 does. Maybe it doesn't have user interface and must be controlled through Hidden menu. But that's still better than nothing.
Thank you for reporting. You should mention this in @ChazzMatt's ongoing VoLTE thread.
Edit: Chazz mentioned it there

US998 firmware has been open and friendly to T-Mobile. It has all the bands except for LTE band 71 and normally automatically allows VoLTE and VoWi-Fi with T-Mobile SIM card. I remember in another post, and he reiterated it again in this post, that he had to downgrade back to Oreo US998 as Pie US998 wasn't allowing VoLTE and VoWIFI anymore. But then, he uses Ting -- which is a T-Mobile MVNO. No others have mentioned issues like that, so I figured it was just an unusual situation where the MVNO infrastructure isn't communicating properly.
I'm tempted to think that again... unless others with actual T-Mobile SIM card or SIM cards from other T-Mobile MVNOs chime in.
As for other firmware, the AT&T H931 would be compatible with T-Mobile bands as would the Canada H933 -- BUT I don't know if you automatically get T-Mobile VoLTE and VoWi-Fi.

I doubt H931 ROM (AT&T) would give VoLTE on other carriers. And it certainly would not support this new hybrid MNC as we only have a mid-Oreo version of it.
H932 (which my wife uses on Red Pocket AT&T) doesn't allow IMS on other carriers. It has the bands alright and regular voice & LTE, just not VoLTE. I expected to move her to a Red Pocket TMO plan down the road, but if this new hybrid MNC applies to TMO broadly, even H932 may not work long-term. She is on Pie though, so they had a chance to update it.

I'm pretty sure the "X3" SIM card they sent me was a TMobile sim. They also offer a "V1" sim card which is Verizon. They sent me one of those to try as well to try but in all honesty, by the time I ported my number to it to "see" if it would work and if it didn't then I would have to port it back and go through all that hassle.. I did throw the V1 in to see if my VOLTE options appeared.. but they didn't (for what that's worth) so I didn't bother activating it.
I found a couple used V35 ULMs on swappa like new for a really great price so I had to jump on them. I notice my phones now have two APN entries.. one for wireless.dish.com and one for fast.t-mobile.com.
I also received this message from TING, "As for the OS its just a hunch I have as I've noticed some other changes in moving to the X3 that could be related to the difference in IMSI range or the way the SIM is identified by the network. We'll keep digging on our end and if we can find a solution we'll definitely pass it along" of course this was several weeks ago and I've never heard anything since. I would have loved to get my two V30s up and running without playing "phone carrier musical chairs."
At least I'm not sacrificing anything by upgrading to the V35 (other than a little bit of money). I don't regret buying them it just seems so.. wasteful LOL
V35 is an awesome phone in other ways too: 6GB RAM (vs 4GB), SD845 (vs 835). And as discovered by head-fi titan csglinux, its audio output measures significantly better than V30 - while maintaining the DSD and MQA features lost by later LG models. All with the same great form factor as V30.
And now it appears to also have more updated IMS support, which stands to reason.
I kick myself for missing it during the summer 2019 sale when Cricket unloaded AT&T's inventory of unlocked V35 for $150 (as I recall).

I have one, like new in box. The only thing is it's 64GB internal memory. The only 128 V35+ version was sold in Brazil. I was in Brazil for 7 weeks recently and still couldn't find one. Well, not that I had time to look, as we were very busy with other stuff...
But I'm too used to the V30+. My wife uses 64GB V30 and the V35 would be good for her. But I dread the migration.

Yeah that's the thing about V35: Only 64GB. And since it's an A/B device, I assume it has even less available storage than a 64GB V30. I guess if I put all my music files on an SD card it wouldn't be an issue.
I recently switched from Sprint to Mint mobile. I kept the v30+ stock while on sprint and only performed the ls998 to us998 conversion when i ported over. Works like a charm. VoLTE and wifi appear to work just fine for me.

Can you tell us whether you are seeing the following on your setup (US988 on Mint/TMO):
1) Menus to toggle and configure VoLTE and VoWiFi (WiFi Calling)?
2) Indicator icons on the status bar for VoLTE and VoWiFi?
3) Did you have to use Hidden menu to configure anything?
Thanks again, and in advance!
This is my experience
1) See attached screenshots. I have a persistent notification that i can't seem to hide indicating that calls will be made via wifi when connected to wifi. Also attached are screenshots from inside the phone app's settings.
2) I'm certain I've seen an indicator on top of the phonescreen telling me that an active call was either HD or wifi? For some reason I can't remember. But im certain i saw it.
3) I didn't have to configure anything. I activated over a separate phone with a live representative just to make sure port would go smoothly. No joke, within one minute it was up and running.

Do you get voicemail notifications? Pop-ups?
What US998 are you on?
Do you get a status bar notify for VoLTE.?

Good to see that US998 is working well on TMO (Mint in your case).
@islandfever: I'm increasingly thinking the logic is no Statusbar indicator as long as the settings are working, i.e. as long as you can make phone calls. It is still puzzling why the indicator in the Hidden menu didn't work for you.

Status bar is not as important... Just trying to find out what rom he is using now...
Right now im using the us99820h rom.
Heres some screenshots of phone use while not on wifi. Theres no notification or status bar icon, but you see it on the dialer button and in an active call on the top left. Pretty sure that means volte is working.
**edit** also - voicemails are not visual voicemail and you have to dial in for them. I believe there is a visual voicemail app that works for tmobile that would also work with mint called "My Visual Voicemail" I haven't installed that yet but might in the future.

@pjsnyc One more question. How does voicemail alert you of a message on Mint? On 20H with Red Pocket and their GSMT SIM i get no notifications . Does it give you a popup or icon in status bar?

Most likely not....I have the N6P and it doesn't for work for me. They basically refuse to provision an account with the enhanced services like wifi calling and volte if you didn't buy the phone from them. They are the only remaining carrier that I know of that doesn't allow use of the enhanced services when you BYOD.
I have a theory though.....if you get a phone that they sell that has the enhanced capabilities and have them turn the services on...then you swap out the Sim and put that Sim in your pixel 2xl it should work.....
I thought about doing it but I don't need wifi calling and the VoLte and enhanced sms only work if the person on the other end has the same carrier and capable phone and the features turned on....so didn't think it was worth it try try out.

It has to be a Google issue wether it's certifications or license issue. Someone much more in touch with how it all works would probably have a better answer. Purchased my wife's iPhone 8 unlocked (not carrier specific) from Apple directly not through AT&T. Her WiFi calling works. I'm also on the 6P and upgrading to Pixel 2XL even if it doesn't work? I guess I could try to put her sim into my phone when I get it.

Trust me...I have researched this extensively. I forgot to mention and serveral several rep confined this..... the only non att branded device they allow to use thier enhanced services is the iPhone bought straight from apple....no Android phones.
Yeah pixel 2 xl not working with enhanced voice. From what I heard the only reason it works with the iPhone is because Apple sets their own rules not the carriers. I think it's crap what they do. Verizon services usually work fine and tmobile works great too but coverage is spotty. I switched from T-Mobile to AT&T and love the coverage just miss being able to buy unlocked phones that will work with volte mainly don't really care for Wi-Fi calling.

If you call AT&T and get them to provision your IMEI for HD calling, it does indeed work.
EDIT: I should also add, your SIM card serial number last two digits (digits 9 and 10) MUST be greater than 27.
If they are not, you will need to get a new SIM card from AT&T.

Mine stays on LTE !
Go into the 4636 menu and see if it's provisioned. It was for me on vz. If it is, go into contacts and press on the 3 dots in the upper right corner. In the settings tab, there is a toggle for wifi calling.
I can confirm that VoLTE works. I contacted AT&T Tech Support this morning and specifically requested for them to update the IMEI # and provision VoLTE (HD Calling). I placed a test call and it sounded great, and stayed on LTE.
Additionally, I requested they Provisioned Wi-Fi calling. The Tech advised the Pixel 2 XL is not compatible but said he provisioned it on the line anyway. I don't think it's working though since it doesn't show that it's provisioned on the device information.

Here you go, see the HD in the screenshot, and yes, Wi-Calling still DOES NOT work. The AT&T Tech was kind to provision it anyway, maybe Google needs to turn it on as well.

if you physically look at the SIM, there is 2 rows of 10 digits, the top row, last 2 digits.
Yours should be fine,
I didnt check on 8.0, but I also didnt see the volte setting in advanced, so Im guessing it is only 8.1 right now.

Ahhh ok. Yeah my top row on my SIM card ends with 27. I already had AT&T swap my IMEI on the SIM card since I moved it to my P2 XL from my old Pixel XL. I guess I'll have to ask them to provision VoLTE on my account now too.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I'm giving this a shot too considering they're advertising the welcoming of the Pixel 2 lineup. It's simply all about whitelisting so they should make this happen!
https://www.att.com/plans/google-pixel.html
The hardware obviously allows it. It's just a matter of AT&T adding the IMEI to their advanced calling lists.
Got them to add this to my account and I'm good to go. I wonder if we'll ever get WiFi calling
Is or has anyone else been able to get VoLTE working on T-Mobile US on this model specifically? LTE and WiFi Calling work in general, but the "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" toggle isn't there to allow VoLTE. The model has the same number of bands as the XT1710-01 model, but is on the RETLA channel, by the way.
Hi, actually I was having similar issues. VoLTE, seems to be different but is based on your Carrier mostly. If you call someone from a different carrier it may not be enabled. I'm with AT&T, whenever I call someone with AT&T and we are both with good 4g LTE, in the call, changes the status to HD. But, just with AT&T. At least that's how it Works for me. We should wait someone to confirm is this is how other carries behave.

-06 is a North American dual sim variant, correct. Updates should go through ATT Mex, I believe. And yes, you can use sims from other carriers. I used one sim card when I tried it and only utilized one of the sim slots as a result. T-Mo VoLTE just doesn't seem to have been certified for that variant.
So T-Mobile WIFI calling works on this variant of the Z2 Play? If so that is good to know especially when traveling overseas even if some other advanced features don't work.
I have an XT1710-06 retla device and I can confirm that wifi calling with T-mobile does *NOT* work on my device. There is a setting to enable wifi calling, but it never seems to connect and all calls still go over mobile. This is 100% testable if I for instance go into a deep basement that has wifi but no cellular signal -- I can browse the internet but cannot make phone calls or SMS, even though I have wifi calling turned on.
This is probably related to why VoLTE doesn't work either.
Also (as mentioned in another thread) still no updates for it past February 7.1.1 update. No later security updates and no Oreo updates.

Hi,
I'm super curious how did you get your Z2 Play to have VoLTE. I 've tried everything - new sim, IMEI of ATT branded phone, activated SIM on ATT phone, etc. , to no avail. I'm so frustrated and about to get another phone, because my HSPA signal is much weaker than LTE where I'm at and constantly have missed (straight to voicemail) or dropped calls. Please, let me know how did you get it to work.
Thanks
Maybe the problem is VolTE itself. As I tested. Unless both phones are with the same carrier and working good over 4G (good signal area) you can't get it working. At least in where I live that was true for a friend's phone and mine. So VolTE was good, until signal dropped hard. But impossible to work with other carriers.
Even it was good under Lineage OS and tested with Toxyc OS, but I saw the main thing is that 4G LTE should be firstly working fine. And same for anyone you call. Otherwise call will be normal. And for 4G LTE it depends on area support too.
Sorry for late reply

Same phone (XT1710-06 retla, rooted stock ROM on Oreo), and wifi calling on Tmobile also doesn't work for me. I can enable it in Settings, but I cannot send SMS or make calls over wifi with no cell service. After a while (a few hours) I get a Moto Settings notification that it can't enable Wifi calling, with a message underneath that says "Enabling." I can't dismiss the notification, only snooze it for up to 2 hours, and after I disable wifi calling it does eventually go away after a couple days.
Your problem is because none of the XT1710 variations have the 600MHz Band 71. It is the most recently added band and very few phones currently out there support it yet. As far as the HD voice issues mentioned...both people on the call have to be using a Volte supported phone and then HD automatically activates.
Ok so I had to reactivate my Z2 Force Sprint., and after set up I do not have any data. It show 3G then LTE then nothing.. I tried flash all twice, but still can't get full data.. I'm in the same situation, update from nougat to Oreo and I ran out of mobile network, if I find any solution, I'll let you know.
Sprint is suppose to be sending me another phone. Will see, so I went and relocked the bootloader.. At this time I don't care if it is stock or not.

I went to Motorola to get the factory images for this phone, can't seem to find any.. funny with bootloader locked, I get a message, that a different software other than factory installed on phone.. How, when I flashed the flashall that is suppose to be 100 percent stock.
Found out what appears to be the issue.. Up at Sprint, my ICCID (sim) Doesn't match what's in the phone.. Why I do not know.. I gave them two other sim cards, and they claim they are not compatible but, one is the original one from the phone.. So tomorrow I have to go to Sprint and get another.. To add insult to injury, the Galaxy S6 I purchased, and billed as new.. In fact is not new, was a refurbished unit.. Ok, but the mic does not work.. Went to Sprint to get it replaced $75, but because it has a after market screen and not original, they won't touch it.. Again, no mentioned at time of purchase.. Luckily for me I'm getting my money back on it.. Talk about a bad day, and a couple of effed up phones..
Did Lineage OS work?

I was on Lineage, but went back to stock as I was going to sell this phone.. but now I'm not sure how to proceed. Any ideas will help thanks.

Sorry, I need to clarify. Alot of Moto Z2 Force users have issues using their "unlocked" phones on compatible carriers. For instance, I have an unlocked Sprint Version of the phone, yet cannot use it on the Verizon network (even though both phones have compatible hardware). So there must be a glitch or Carrier lock in the phone's "Software Channel" preventing people from using their device on other networks (aka: have their phone unlocked).
Did using Lineage OS allow you to use your phone with whatever carrier (SIM change) without any modification besides the OS?
Please let me know if I need to clarify any further. Thank you!
Get Verizon Network to work on your Sprint Moto Z2 Force!

Sorry. I did not use my phone on any other carrier.. But I believe this phone you can use on T-Mobile, Cricket or even AT&T.. Providing it is also GSM compatible.. A buddy of mine recently left Sprint, and has a Iphone 7 and he went to Cricket.. Best move he every made.. And not that the GSM is unlocked he can talk, and do internet without issues. I hope this helps. I also now have a LG G7 ThinQ as I was having issues with LTE and Call issues, and Sprint sent me that, and I sent then back my Moto Z2 Force.

Verizon is the only carrier you can't use. Verizon is a CDMA carrier. They must have your IMEI in their database to get calls, sms, MMS, etc. AT&T works, T-Mobile works... They are GSM so as long as the phone can connect to the towers, they don't care really.

Verizon is ALSO GSM and 4G LTE...and switching over to 5G. Strange thing is, when we initially got the Sprint phone and put in the Verizon SIM card, the phone actually recognized the Verizon SIM and all data, network, and calling WERE working, without having any dialog with Verizon (ALSO: without the phone's IMEI number on Verizon's database). It wasn't until the phone was updated to a more current Oreo Operating System that the SIM card wasn't recognized. Leading me to understand/believe that THERE DOES EXIST a ROM that allows a Sprint Moto Z2 Force to work on the Verizon network...just a matter of finding which one.
Also, when we installed Lineage OS onto the Sprint Moto Z2 Force, the Network options actually ALLOWED us to put in Access Point Name (APN) fields, but prevented us from saving them, saying user access denied (Rooting the phone may allow access to these settings?).
Also, once Lineage OS was installed, the Network could be taken off from, "Actively Connect" to a network and re-directed to a Carrier specific Network...Verizon being one of them, yet when doing so, we received an error message, "SIM card prevented linkage"....This we are assuming IS an issue with the IMEI (???), yet the IMEI # is different than the SIM #.
We currently are trying to work with Verizon Wireless to alter their, "Bring Your Own Device" settings to see if they WILL ALLOW a compatible hardware phone to be added to their platform by adding the IMEI to their database...
Still trouble shooting and fingers still crossed...
UPDATE:
Verizon working on Sprint Version Moto Z2 Force via Oreo OCXS27.109-48-3 (NOT listed in Motorola mirrors lolinet firmware page). We suggest doing an install of an older version of Oreo (i.e., OCX27.109-48 from 3/2018), then a "Motorola System Update" will pop-up suggesting you to update to version Oreo OCXS27.109-48-3...once install has completed, pop in your Verizon SIM card and voila! Network connection, data service, hotspot, & voice calling all working!
Now the key is to NOT do any future updates and disable the app "System Update" and force stop "Motorola Update Services" (if rooted, disable it!).
We're still working on what Sprint Applications can/need to get disabled, as notifications for "Mobile ID and "Mobile Installer" are still on the pull down notification screen. (Rooting most likely required for these).
Hey all, I've been pouring over the forums here and other places trying to find a solution to my issue. I just got a Pixel 2XL the verizon version and I'm using it on Straight Talk with an AT&T sim card. So far so good except I cannot get wifi calling. I'm pure stock, android 9/Pie, no bootloader unlocks/rooting etc. The wifi calling option does not exist in the phone app nor in the settings anywhere. Even when you search for wifi calling, it simply takes you to the network and connections section of settings but wifi calling is no where to be found. I've tried the adb command (the one that apparently used to work on Oreo but not longer does on Pie) and that didn't work (though I didn't expect it to since many people said it no longer works on Pie). I have an Unlocked Note 9 as well and its wifi calling works perfectly fine so does anyone have a way to make this work? Reception at my home is somewhat lacking and I really need wifi calling.
Thanks!

Could you attach a screenshot with the WHOLE section of "Mobile Network", found inside of "Network & Internet" in the Settings -- make sure that you click on the drop down menu next to "Advanced Calling" -- this will help make sure that wifi calling is really missing as well as might point something out that may help with a solution. Moreso, personally, because I can't even imagine what the settings menu looks like missing this...

It might be a long shot but try checking the settings in the Google phone app. There should be a place that says configure IMS calling. I have this setting here and in the network settings. If you have it that's where you can enable wifi calling.

Been there done that. I have no options for setting up IMS calling. I only have SIP options. Also, I have tried the phone dialer trick (where you dial *#*#4636#*#*) and that shows the wifi calling option as a toggle but its greyed out and cannot be enabled. I even tried an adb trick that used to work on the 1st gen pixels, but to no avail.
What happens when you enter your information here?
I'll have to initiate a chat with Straight Talk. Like you I have a Pixel 2 XL with a Straight Talk AT&T SIM. The only difference is that mine is unlocked. I just ran my phone number and the IMEI of the SIM through the linked site and it tells me my device is not compatible. Since I have a BYOP SIM and the IMEI is of the SIM itself, chances are high that the SIM needs replacing with one that includes WiFi calling support.
EDIT: According to the representative I just spoke with, there's no guarantee that changing to a newer AT&T SIM will enable the feature. The only guaranteed method according to tech support is switching to a T-Mobile SIM.

Hey thanks for the help. I tried that link as well (before I posted here; sorry I should have mentioned it) and it said my device is also not compatible. I initiated a chat with them and they told me the same; switch to T-Mobile. I am tempted to do so but the one thing holding me back is my home is already a place I get poor signal and T-mobile's coverage while much improved still isn't as good at AT&T's. I realize that having wifi calling would fix any lingering signal issues but I do manage to get 1-2 bars of 3G at my house with AT&T, I figure I won't even get that with T-Mobile. So I am weary of the switch. I'll have to consider it though. I could also wait for the full rollout of the latest google voice (since it finally is bring VOIP without the need of hangouts) and just use that number instead.
So I contacted Straight Talk and ordered a T-Mobile sim card. It'll be here in a few days. I will post my findings after it arrives. Straight talk support says wifi calling works with all T-Mobile sim cards so we will see.
Hello all,
Okay, so I finally got switched over to a T-Mobile sim card (again still with straight talk). It took a while cause I had to buy a new one (the old one I had expired; who'd have thought?). Anyways, switching to T-Mobile solved all my problems and then some. Not only do I have Wifi calling, but also HD voice, VOLTE, Tethering, and 3-4 bars of LTE (previously on AT&T, I got 1-2 bars of 3G). I realize the signal issues is merely a coverage thing but I can say with certainty that switching to a T-Mobile sim card will give you all the advanced features. I hope this helps others who might experience this problem. I've been using AT&T (in one form or another) for the better part of a decade and can now honestly say, AT&T sucks.
Is your download speed throttled?
*********UPDATE********** I bought a new sim from straight talk and VOLTE works now! (GSM compatible Straight Talk Sim card) My old sim was from 2014, so it wasn't VOLTE compatible.
I have an ebay zombie LG G710ULM flashed to latest Google Fi Android 9 software, I received an email from Straight Talk (Wal-Mart US cell phone service reseller) telling me that my LG G7 does not support VoLTE and my phone will be unable to receive calls in January 2021.
-Using a network info app, the app is telling me it is connected to T-Mobile towers (so I have a Straight Talk T-Mobile compatible SIM)
-I can't find any options to enable VoLTE in settings, and wifi calling is erroring out
I was wondering if there are ways to get VoLTE and Wifi Calling working (Straight Talk supports it, but not my current ROM/SIM).
I can switch to the following sims supported by Straight Talk.
-AT&T Compatible Sim
-Verizon Compatible Sim? If my phone supports CDMA bands
OTHERWISE MOST OF US WILL HAVE A PAPERWEIGHT IN 2021!!!!!!!!!
Same problem
I'm having the same problem. Any progress on this?
I'd like to know this too. Surprised there is no traffic here with all the knowledgeable people on this forum.
G710EAW here. BTW There was an Android 10 update just two hours ago from Android 9. Someone with an 'EM' phone in another thread said VOWifi is "working now" but how do others know if it's working when January 1st comes around?

If you guys have cross flashed roms, then volte will not work. It doesnt work for any of us who have crossflashed. Whichever model.
You need to be on original software. Looks like some licensing thing that volte requires. They need to provision volte for all the phones. Sounds like they are not interested to provision it for g7. Odd that even EAW model which has original firmware, they sent that mail too....
Sad/Odd to see your carriers are suddenly changing to only Volte.
Is there a way to put it back to original software? I actually don't need it crossflashed to anything because it's a Verizon originally and I would like to use it on that network. Or does it not work that way?

Main issue is that your carriers dont want to provision volte for your G7s. So no guarantee if cross flashing back to original will work.
There is crossflashing guide in guides section with which you can go back to stock firmware. Do this at your own risk.
In our country we have a volte carrier called Jio. They provide an app called jiocall. Using that app you could use their service even if your phone is not volte capable. You will have to see if there are such apps for your carrier. Thats the only non technical, simpler solution.
I have some information that might make all of you guys happy.
I was told by Safelink Wireless that VOTLE is a function of BOTH the phone *AND* the sim card.
Basically, if the phone itself is VOLTE compatible but the sim card is not, then the phone will be reported on their system as not compatible, and will ask you to upgrade your phone.
However if a VOLTE compatible SIM is inserted, if the phone does in fact support VOLTE, it will then work. That's because it's provisioned on the carrier via the sim card itself.
If you purchased a sim via the "Buy your own sim" package, e.g. online or from Best Buy, etc, awhile ago, then that sim is not compatible. You simply need to call Tracphone/Safelink and ask to buy a VOLTE compatible SIM (which costs 99 cents). Then when you get it, call their tech department to have them transfer the phone service and phone number to the new SIM.
You can dial the phone's service menu and go to the VOLTE/GPRI menu and if the options are there, then the phone supports it.
What's the correct service menu number for our phones?

Update, I recently bought a new sim and I have VOLTE right now on ULM android 9 latest security fix LG G7 image, running on Straight Talk.
took a while to understand lgup but my 710 oulm had a type oreo that the guy said couldnt be but i crossed flashed it to 10 i dont see the rom anymore and i hope i put it on another drive it was a canadian rom for android 10 works great otherwise im looking to get volte active in the *#*#4636#*#* phone menu you can see "provision for the setting under the radio on off but its a grey area the buttons dont work could be good could be bad its definately part of 10 but ?? grey areas preferred network could be sketchy to play with the phone initially on transition had incredible link up speed now its giving me a pain because assume i played with the connection preferences tab and its a registration error like dum just use the assigned sim guys and stop trying to mac or identify with every device anyway its the registration of a telephone number robo heads
