Nougat HTC CAR mode - One (M9) Themes and Apps

Hi,
In the newest Nougat for M9 there is an app I've been using a lot - HTC CAR (ver. 8.5). Unfortunately, there must have been a change in this app or it's framework which makes me unhappy. BIG BUTTONS! It takes, no matter what car app you are using, almost 1/5 of the screen for back and home buttons. And here comes my question:
Is there any option to make this virtual buttons smaller just like in Marshmallow?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Is it possible to rotate things like the home screens and contacts?

Hi all,
Is it possible to get the Home page screens to rotate and things like the diallers etc? Although auto rotate is on, lot of things like this don't rotate. I'm using a pretty much stock Orange ROM.
I know on my old windows HTC Touch Diamond phone there was an additional app that allowed me to override these home screen settings, thus forcing most screens to rotate.
This is very useful when you use the phone as a sat nav device that is mounted in landscape. Of course, when you bring up the contact list to navigate to, or the phone rings, everything goes to the wrong - well back to normal - but difficult to see unless you tilt your head which is not a good idea when driving!
Many thanks for any help
AFAIK, you have to replace the Rosie Launcher apk, and this is only available if you are using a custom HD/Z port ROM.
Ahh, bugger. If there was an Orange ROM out there I would do this, but with no way back to a stock image on a relatively new works phone, I simply can't justify it yet. What a shame this can't be added to a normal ROM.
There is another way! If you are not determined to stick with sense, use Launcher Pro. See what you think. No rooting or flashing required. Just download from marketplace.
It has the option to rotate the home screens. Personally I also think it is also smoother and has more customizing options than sense.

Cheers for that. Now we open a full Pandora's box. I didn't realise quite how the widgets are integrated with the launcher. I loose many of the sense widgets that i use to frequently such as currently appointment due, coming agenda, fully calendar email notification (not gmail but exchange, really miss this one), power bar etc.
I assume a lot of these could be added a separate downloads. I juts now have to start figureing out what they would be.
Lol. Sorry, should have made that clearer. There are plenty of choices for replacing the HTC widgets. The paid version of launcher pro has a tidy calendar, but if you are looking for free alternatives, I've found that the 'post your screen shots' thread in the 'themes and apps' section is a good way of seeing what other people are using...

[Q] Hong Kong Smartone version - butchered?

Does anyone else have a version from Smartone? I've noticed a couple of really annoying things (or I've just missed them) / differences:
- standard screen shot keys don't work (power + home or power + volume down??)
- massive amounts of bloatware
- where's the HTC sense signature clock/weather widget?!
- switching panels -pinch to zoom doesn't work?
- only three buttons on the home screens at the bottom?
- the app drawer is is vertical scroll, not horizontal as in htc sense 4
- long presses on bring up an old widget/app/shortcut selecter.. no preview for the other ICS builds
- app settings says it's htc sense 3.5??
Anything else I'm missing.. this is super annoying...
Any fixes possible for this...
edit: Removing Smartone Launcher fixes a lot of these issues..
Is it really one x? Post some pics if possible.

Sounds like a fake to me.
Nah, Smartone is one of the largest carriers in HK so it's not. It's just their own lame launcher that they put on top of the OS that screws it up.
Removing it helps a lot and solves a lot of those issues.

Is there a Landscape - Horizontal desktop docking station

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of a horizontal/landscape docking station / stand for the HTC One. All I see is the portrait one, but I use my phone as an alarm clock as well, and it would be really cool if the alarm app would automatically switch on when it senses it's in a landscape holder of some type. My Original Google Droid had such a holder, and my wife's Sony Xperia Play (don't laugh) also had this accessory.
Alarm clock apps are supposed to be viewed in landscape mode. I have searched on the web, and I don't even see references to even a future product. I thought maybe someone on this forum might have some inside info, unless I overlooked something.
Thanks again for any replies.
Alberto
Just picked up a Otterbox Defender and the belt clip rotates and snaps open to hold your phone in a landscape layout.
The problem is that Sense 5.0 doesn't come with a desktop clock mode like you get in stock Android. HTC doesn't make a desktop dock for the phone, so nothing happens when you plug it into a power source.
I just use a portrait dock and have Tasker launch a desk clock app.

Through HTC Media Link HD there is a horizontal Sense mode so there is probably a way to force this through some tweaks i suppose.
Maybe Trickdroid has that function in the Tweaks app or maybe ViperOne. Haven't tried it though only with Media link HD.
Can't test it myself currently cause i'm at a GPe rom.
Or put the phone in Car mode

Paying someone to get Torque Widgets on my Android 10 Homescreen

I recently Purchased a new Head Unit, Atoto S8 Ultra Gen 2.
I have connected Torque, but I want to add widgets to the homescreen, so that when the car starts, the gauges are already displayed.
I can get Torque to auto load on the Gauge page, but then I have to minimize to access other apps/radio.
I'm willing to pay someone to get the Torque Widgets working on my Home Screen (Android 10).
Please reach out to me if you can do this and we can discuss a price.
Any help appreciated!

I think you may have to look at a different solution than to add widgets to your current home screen. Have you thought about changing your home screen to be something that has the ability to add widgets to it vice trying to hack a unit, unlock and root it just to pull the home screen apk and modify the apk? May I suggest looking at Car Launcher app which will basically be a GUI over your current home screen which does allow for many different customizations. Hope this helps.

Hey buddy
Thank you for your reply.
I don't want to root this head unit as it will void my warranty.
I actually have purchased the Car Launcher Pro app, but how does that help me display Data from Torque?
I pretty much want my headunit to boot up and automatically display certain gauges from my Supra on the headunit.
On my last head unit I had the Torque app auto boot to the gauges page on Torque, but was hoping with this new Android 10 head unit I could do more!
The problem with booting straight into the app, is if you want to play music or do anything else, you have to press home to get out of Torque, then select something else, where as if the Torque widgets worked with Android 10, they would just be there on the home screen.
Willing to pay you for some help if you can get this working or have any others ways for me to get torque info on my headunit without having the app full screen
with the Car launcher app as your home screen, you can add all the widgets you want and have them all start up when the head unit starts up.
So you would have the head unit running Car Launcher app, then you would chose your them/layout. Modify that to add all your widgets to display on it. I already have this setup to my mirror.

I've got the headunit on a testing bench right now. I'll fire it up and give it a go.
If that works I'll be so happy, but so far every launcher I've tried, the "Widgets for Torque" app doesn't Display anything.. I believe it's a compatibility issue with Android 10.
You saying you've gotten widgets for torque working on Android 10 with Car Launcher?

I'm running Android 8.1 on that mirror not 10. I don't see how that would change the process though. This may help you out a bit
Yeah even with Android 9 it was working, but Android 10 seems to have stopped. Try it for yourself on an android 10 Unit

Nah I just double checked on 2 android 10 devices. Widgets for torque not working
I think I found your solution. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torquedashboardplugin&hl=en_US&gl=US
This program just worked on my Android S10+ with Android 11
I will make you a quick video to show you what I just did.
You have to make sure that the Torque Pro app is open before you press the add widgets button.

What I miss about the stock android on Moto G 5G Plus?

I'm not good with tech lingo so sorry if I use wrong terms. Mostly I don't regret rooting my phone. I save so much space and my phone's pretty much ad-free now, which was the reason I decided to root my phone in the first place. I'm now using Lineage 20.0 Android 13. I really miss some old Moto functions though. One is displaying apps over the camera cutout. Some apps use the whole screen display but some has a black bar on top. I used to be able to just go in settings and make any app use the whole screen. Now I can't. Been looking for a fix but can't find it.
Another is the volume control. You can set the volume you want for each app by pressing the up or down button and dragging out app volume control and the phone remembers it. I didn't have to go to each app's settings and adjust the volume one by one. If you have any fix for these I'd really appreciate it.
