Multiple questions - Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus Questions & Answers

First of all I would like to thank everyone in this forum for their kindness and resourcefulness.
I am sorry for asking questions that have already been discussed and for mixing up issues of different nature.
I am considering of getting a k5 European version a6020a40 s415. It's cheap, reliable and it has a removable battery. I am puzzled by the amount of complexity related to flashing custom ROM s on it.
1. How complex is the process of installing and accessing TWRP? Is it just a matter of enabling the option (unlock bootloader) in the developers options and then flashing it in adb model (after unlocking the bootloader)? I've seen desperate questions about this. Is it feasible?
2. Can I flash ROMs that can be used as daily drivers (I.e. no strange glitches and\or unexpected reboots\FCs)?
A. Is the camera working on them? (Stock or third party)?
B. Is FM radio working on them? (Stock or third party)?
C. Is OTG mode working for external drives and/or external DACs?

1) First installation of TWRP is possible using ADB after some changes in developer options, but in some cases generate bootloop. In my device, i fix the problem after of one day.
2) AOKP ROM can be easily updated and for me no presents any problem.
A) Stock camera is related problems for much users, is needed install third party. My device has Open Camera software.
B) FM radio not work in AOKP and i also desire know any rom what be functional.
C) Yes.

It's not necessary to unlock bootloader to flash twrp if you have root access then you can use a flashing app to flash twrp using root without unlocking bootloader

Welcome to Android!
I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun
Typically you'll find a tab saying root info for each phone model in the forum. However, these tabs (same for ROMs) are typically not as updated as the forum threads. You'll find most info/guides for that kind of stuff in general, seeing how in most cases in concerns the phone in general, more-so than a specific development for the phone (such as a specific phone).
Make sure you carefully read the original post for each software seeing how different softwares can only be used in certain situations. For example, the LG G3 comes in different models, and some software only work for the specific ones, some things are developed for certain android versions (such as lollipop vs. kitkat), some softwares are developed for stock-based roms, and some are developed for aosp-based roms, and the list goes on.
It's not as complicated as it sounds, and it doesn't take as long as you might imagine to get settled, but it takes some getting used to.
To answer your specific questions:
1 )how to root

1. After you've rooted your phone, you need to install a custom recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298, check Q4).
2. When done with that you download a [ROM (whatever the rom is called)].zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2772658), and typically Gapps, and place on SD card.
3. Boot into recovery, and wipe the phone (I usually go for factory reset/make fresh install + wipe cache + wipe Dalvik-cache)
4. Now you need to flash the ROM + gapps. Do that by install zip --> install from SD card --> click the [ROM].zip (and then gapps)
5. Reboot and enjoy!

I'll admit that I have not read the specifics of each thread I've linked, so make sure that it applies to you before you go about and install stuff (by reading first post in each thread). Also, how you install might differ a little from rom to rom, so only use my instructions as additional instructions to the instructions typically written in the first post for each rom/software.
Note! Everytime you go about fiddling with the phone you do run the risk of bricking it. However, the risk of hard bricking your phone is quite slim as long as you read up a bit before messing about. On top of that, if anything would happen, such as a bootloop or soft bricking, just keep it cool. It happens to all of us from time to time, and I'll bet you that the very same thing you did wrong, has happened to someone before you, so just search the threads (starting with the thread it relates to). If you feel like playing safe, I would suggest you start off with one of the more established ROM-devs, such as CM.
I hope this helps!
Thank you munte89 for all your answers.i hope all this can help me.I have one more question.
LG G3 has 2 versions.16 GB & 32 GB .Is the firmware same for both or has each device his own firmware ??

No worries! I know it can be difficult getting started
Well, it's different firmwares sometimes (eg different stocks). This is typically clearly pointed out in the instructions if that is the case. I have not encountered that where it comes to the custom ROMs, except for making sure you have the right model (eg D855). After you've installed a new ROM, you might want to go to settings --> about phone to check the information for any clues of using the wrong software.

If you are running Ubuntu or an Ubuntu based distro on your machine the process is different, and it's more complicated for a new comer.

Stock android on ZF2
Hi.
Thank you very much for the super informative post. I am going to buy a ZF2 and I want to check if it is possible to run stock Android in this device. This is more an option for me and not a necessity. I just do not like customizations such as ZenUI, HTC Sense, TouchWiz and so. I have chosen this model for the price vs functionality otherwise I know that I could go for a Nexus model or a Motorola device that run on near stock android.
Thank you again.
P. S. I have never rooted any of my android devices so far. I am not familiar with the process and I always have the fear that I may brick my device.

That's a Work in progress now
Hi, please give me an instruction flash stock recovery to my zen2 Z00A 4GB/ 32GB, now my zen2 is on firmware 2.20.40.168 unlock bootloader + root + twrp.
Thanks

First noob questions

Fine, I bought from aliexpress a Zuk Z2 and I have few questions:
1st How can I find which model I have, as far I know, there are Chinese and Indian models, which one I have and how to understanding it?
2nd Are there some differences between those device, chinese and indian? or can I flash each other rom?
3rd My device came with a custom rom 2.0.069 ST and I couldnt arrange apps in the way which I'd like, are all the ZUI ROMS like this, or is it some bug or specific for that rom?
And most important thing, where do I started reading about this amazing device?
thanks for all help. :good:
this place is pretty dead in terms of engagement, go to zukfans.eu
I have a ZUK Z2 (not pro) and just went through the process of flashing new ROMs. I used zukfans.eu, xda-developers.com and youtube videos to learn about the device. I found zukfans to be better to figure out getting in developer mode and using adb command line prompts and was able to flash the stock rom 2.0.069ST. This allowed me to update to the latest version. As I don't speak Chinese (and lots of apps were still in Chinese), I really wanted a true multilanquage Android ROM, not a ZUK skinned android ROM. For this I used the XDA instructions to load the Cyanogen 13 ROM which works very nicely, all in English with all apps like Google Play working.
Some notes:
1. Look for youtube videos like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iinsQCuZr9Q
2. Flashing stock ROMs: http://zukfans.eu/community/threads/howto-flash-a-stock-zui-rom-zuk-z2-z2131-only.104/
3. Flashing CM13 custom ROM:http://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z2-pro/development/6-0-1-unofficial-cyanogenmod-13-t3504123
3. Remember: For custom ROMs: Unlock bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z2-pro/development/how-bootloader-zuk-z2-pro-t3415392
4. For ADB command line prompts I loaded Minimal adb and fast boot to load the unlock bootloader. img I got from ZUK
With both the ZUK z2 and TWRP I got Chinese as the language that came up. Don't panic, just look on the web for youtube videos that show you how to get to English.
Hope this helps.
A few more word here:
1. TWRP from raimondomartire doesn't work for me, could be difference in CN version's build.prop or something else causing the problem, I am not sure. But I did get CM13 falshed by using a TWRP compiled by other Chinese guy
2. CM13 from mauronofrio works great, but I do get some random reboot sometimes

Help setting up new device

I recently ordered a Lenovo P2 from banggood, and expect to get it still this week or the next. Meanwhile I have a few doubts, and I thought this is the best place to ask, so please bear with me...
1 - On the description, banggood says it's multilanguage (includes screenshots), but I can see no reference to it being a242 or c72. If it is c72, is there a way to change it to a242?
2 - Also, on the product comments, they say the device has custom firmware, which I don't really like, so I want to flash the most recent official firmware. Where can I find it?
3 - About boot unlocking: if the device is shipped with a custom ROM, should I presume the boot is already unlocked? How can I know if it's locked or unlocked?
4 - Lastly (!): what's the current best ROM for the P2, regarding battery (if not the official ROM)?
Thank you very much in advance for your patience and answers!
1) Yes, there is an thread explaining just that.
2) It will be available at XDA itself .Do some searching.
3) It probably is unlocked. It you want to check settings>about>build number (tap 7 times to enable developer options)>you can see the status there.
4) There are quite some ROMs for the device
1. Resurrection remix
2. AOSP extended
3. AICP
4. Lineage OS
But all the custok ROMs have LED and low call volume and no VOLTE support as a common bug.
But there is a third party solution for LED.

Question custom roms: various types and techniques : i need a overview

hello dear all,
first of all - i am very very new to this forum. So i am not sure if i have choosen the right forum or sub.forum.
i am pretty new to PocoF3 - i just have ordered it - and now i am still waiting to receive the
shipping.
heard about various types of rom and rooting.
CrDroid Custom-ROM
xiaomi.eu-ROM
[ROM] ONE Os für das Poco F3
alioth/alothin LineageOS 18.1
ArrowOS Custom ROM für das Poco F3
TWRP Recovery
can anybody shed a light on all these.
+is there a good overview - so that i can make up my mind and get some more insights
love to hear from you
regards
Once you receive your device you are going to need to log into a Xiaomi account for a week before you can unlock your bootloader.
Then unlock your bootloader
This process should factory reset the phone (i.e delete all the data).
The next task is to install TWRP. This is known as a custom recovery and allows you to flash ROMs, root your phone by flashing magisk and backup and restore your data.
You are then free to flash ROMs. There are two types: those based off stock android (AOSP) with modifications and those with slight improvements to MIUI. For a newbie I would recommend LineageOS
hello dear Robert
many many thanks. This is much more than expected.
i am overwhelmed.
Thanks for sharing your great expreience and all your insihgts.
this is awesome
have a great day
Hi people,
I am looking for a custom ROM that has the following:
1. Allows you to hide apps from the app list; not just lock the apps. For now I use LineageOS and I use a separate launcher and AppHider
2. Ideally, comes without GApps or G services. I'd love to try GrapheneOS but it comes for Pixel devices only
3. Allows multiple instances of apps eg. Whatsup, etc. I have seen this in a custom ROM but dont remember which one
Any suggestions?
Thanks a l lot
John
good day dear John,
great to hear from you - i am pretty new to Poco3 and i do my very first steps in all things rooting and unlocking
