No Signal - won't connect to a network... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

Picked up a used AT&T Note 5 recently, everything works except it won't connect to the T-Mobile network. I had previously bought a used(white) AT&T Note 5, factory reset it, put in my t-mobile SIM and bam, I'm up and running.
But with this (black) one I've tried just about everything, adding APN, check IMEI, etc....no dice. Even tried the T-mobile customer service. They tried & checked everything, no go. They even saw the device history and it was running on t-mobile just a couple months ago with the previous owner. I've even ran a ping test and turned the radio off & on in the diagnostics *#*#4636#*#*.
After investigating other threads it seems it could possibly be Marshmallow PE6 that screwed up the radio? But I would think it had been running on that previously.
Any other ideas?

Just try downloading a different firmware(older) and pull the modem.bin out of the tar file and then re-zip it again into a modem.tar file so it can be flashed with odin but don't try going to far back like if you're on Marshmallow don't try flashing a modem from Lollipop because it won't work.. I use 7zip for the extracting and zipping of files.

Well, the plot thickens.
When I checked the IMEI before purchase on Swappa it said all was good. However, they couldn't identify the type or provider of the phone. I didn't think much of it at the time. So I decided to double check the IMEI on a different 2 other checking sights last night and I got the following info(from both!):

Clicked "Network Check" and it said: "IMEI not found on database."
Wtf? Can this be fixed? Is this causing my network issue?

I also checked the IMEI on the back cover, and it states it's clean, not blacklisted and is for an AT&T Note 5.
Anyone restore an IMEI?

Messing with the IMEI is illegal! Are you sure you didn't buy a fake phone? Do you have a picture of the front of the phone?

Download an app called phone info from the play store over wifi and see if the settings match what they're supposed to for the phone. Is there a sim card in the phone?
http://m.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note5-7431.php

Yes it recognizes the SIM but still, no network found.
Cosmetically nice phone, guess I'll re-sell for parts.
Thanks anyway, appreciate the responses.

For tmoble you have to unlock it.

Help with Sprint

Hey guys I need some help with Sprint. I recently purchased a couple of S2's for my kids from a guy who had Sprint and switched carriers. One connected fine, the other did not. Sprint says it is a problem within their system not being able to connect the ESN to a Sprint number but the phone is definitely a Sprint device. It's not rooted and it's not flashed. They have a ticket open on the issue but they are taking too long. Is there anything I can try that might fix this?

You can Odin a Sprint Stock ROM. It won't trigger the flash counter or change the device status to modified, all of the stock ROMs are located here-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903252
Just follow the instructions in the thread of the ROM you pick. (GB27 is the latest Sprint ROM) it sends you to. PC required. But you may have to change the HA and AAA keys to get it to work if it was flashed to another carrier. And further yet it may have been flashed to another because it had a bad Sprint ESN. If that's the case you won't be able to activate it on Sprint... It will work on Boost, FreedomPop, Ting, Page Plus, Straight Talk, or Virgin Mobile if flashed. Just giving you as many possibilities as I can think of.

I'll try to Odin again. Right now it is on the latest Sprint GB27 so I'm not sure what the issue is. But I'll give that a shot. Sprint verified the ESN is not bad, Has not been reported stolen or lost or anything like that. I would think that if it was flashed to another carrier that it would not be on GB27 correct? It would have to be a Cricket Rom or Boost Rom etc...
The only other carriers that have ROMs are Boost and Virgin Mobile, but technically you can use a Sprint ROM with any of the carriers mentioned above, all you have to do is change the mmsc url and apn settings. They all basically run off of Sprint's towers.

Ok I'll look into that also. I'll do some comparisons with the phone that worked and the one that doesn't
Doesn't make any sense that they can't activate it on their end if it has a clean ESN

[Q] sprint s3 on verizon prepaid lost data. please help

I bought a Sprint S3 activated on Verizon prepaid. I had voice, talk, and data but no mms. I was trying to fix the mms issue and I lost network from entering in a secret code. I don't know if it was a factory reset or an update. I called Verizon prepaid and they had me do *228 to reactivate my phone. The reactivation restored voice and text but NO DATA, and of course still no mms. I can get into data programming using ##data# but I'm unsure of what the fields should contain. How do I get my mobile data back? I had it, so I know it's possible!!!! Someone please tell me the values of each field so I can verify the information.
(have figured out i bought a phone that has a cloned esn so Verizon tech support can't help b/c they think i have a different phone - this seems fishy and i wouldn't have bought this phone if i knew)
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
Dial ##72786#, it's a data reset

ok, I tried the ##72786# and I think this is the exact code that messed things up in the first place. After doing this the phone tries to do hands free activation (probably for sprint) but I am now on verizon prepaid. When I go into about phone it has the wrong phone number. I am about to do the *228 to reactivate it through verizon prepaid. Maybe I'll get lucky and the data will be back on! Thanks for trying bilgerry! wish me luck

The *228 returned my voice/text service to the phone and fixed my phone number in about phone. Sadly, still no mobile data network. It worked before the data reset code! How do I return to the previous mobile data settings???????????

After reading many forums I realize I need to use a file explorer type program to change the permissions of apn backup app and then I should be able to insert new apn into backup file and then back it up. I have hit a few snags so far. I tried titanium backup but i need to pay for the pro version for it to work, and I'm too cheap. So, I tried root explorer but I don't have enough knowledge to get the right thing changed. I may bite the bullet and pay for titanium pro unless someone here has a better suggestion of a free app. Also, does anyone have an apn xml file for me to insert into backup file when I get there? I need the one for verizon. Thanks for the help of anyone who is reading this. Wish me luck!!
almost figured it out~~~~
I figured out how to change the permissions for apn backup and restore! I backup up current apn to create the folder. I then went into backup folder and changed it to a verizon apn in xml format. After changing backup file in storage I deleted went to apn backup and restore to delete current apn and backup the modified version. It did not work but I believe I am doing it correctly I just need the correct version of the apn. Can anyone please post the apn in xml so i can copy and paste it into my backup file???
I need the current verizon apn in xml code please!!!!

Accidentally Wiped Network. Null IMEI. Uknown Baseband.

Well if you press *#9090#, DO NOT choose option 1 as it will immediately wipe your IMEI and All related network information.
I may have to send my phone out for repair unless anyone knows of a cheap/inexpensive way to fix this problem. I know of a program called Chimera, but it charges €59.90 for the ability.
So currently I have no Network, no IMEI, unknown baseband version and to top it off, my phone reboots after 2 minutes. I've tried Odin'ing back to stock but it didn't work probably because that info I erased is stored elsewhere...
Any ideas?

I wanna say i flashed a stock modem and everything imei and all came back. Its fixable just gotta find the right solution but if warranty fix it then i don't blame you .
today if acted very silly, I read this thread and I dont know for what reason did just what he said I should not do and now I have my note 4 in an infinite loop that doesnt allow to use, I already install the current modem device and still the problem persists. The another problem that I have is that Samsung will hardly support me because I didnt have the bill and I'm in a different country in which the note was sold.

I know that you are not going to want to hear this but I know someone who can repair it via the Internet. You will need a computer with a USB cable to run to the cell phone.. Email me back if you have any questions [email protected]

Please Help: No Signal / "service state: out of service" [With Screenshots]

I would be so grateful if someone more knowledgeable than I helps me troubleshoot this issue.
I bought a used Nexus 5x yesterday, everything worked fine and it was all stock, i checked my sim card and it worked on the phone.
I took it home unlocked the phone and installed a custom ROM, somehow In the process I seem to have done something that has made it so the phone cannot connect to my mobile network. It seems to be able to see the mobile network [ imgur.com/IdpFg0O ] but not connect [ imgur.com/5edM5G6 ]. The phones APN setting [ imgur.com/5J1Ixoy ] appear to match the information provided on various websites.
The SIM status page [ imgur.com/WGWnqSM ] might give some indication as to what the problem is. It lists the network as "unknown" and the service state as "out of service" and mobile network state as "disconnected."
What I have already tried:
Restarted the phone

Removed and reinserted the SIM card
Tried another SIM card
Manually set APN settings
Manually set Network
Wiped Phone (factory reset)
Reflashed the same custom ROM
Reflashed another custom ROM
Reflashed the Stock ROM
Could I have maybe somehow screwed up the /EFS partition when I was wiping or installing the new ROM?
I dont really know what else to do to troubleshoot or try to fix the problem. I would be sooo sooo grateful if anyone more knowledgeable than I am could help me troubleshoot this issue, there doesn't seem to be much information out there about this problem. I really don't want to have bricked my phone the day after I bought it, so please, if you can offer any assistance helping me understand and diagnose the problem, I would be so grateful!
All Screenshots: imgur.com/a/sq1JbXF
All rooms require a specific version of radio.img make sure you have the right one otherwise you'll have problems like that check out in the xda thread of your rom what version it requires and then download the factory image and flash the radio.img with fastboot
Hi kastik4,
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate you taking the time to lend a little help.
So if I understand you correctly what you are saying is that each specific ROM has its own radio.img and that a mismatch could potentially be causing my problem?
If so, I'm not sure if this is the problem as one of the troubleshootings steps i've taken is trying to go back to the stock factory ROM following Googles instructions and (I believe) flashing the stock radio.img. However, it is entirely possible that I did something incorrectly in this process so I think I will try to redo the process and make sure I got everything right tomorrow.
Any other ideas as to what could be the issue?
@local5x: you wrote, that you reflashed stock ROM. If you did it via flashall.bat (means you lost /data and root) and error persists, probably your hardware is gone.
Messed efs you can detect easily: IMEI shown in settings and on your contract, must be identical.
Generally is the newest radio-image fine. @kastik4's advice is mostly overdressed.
Hey, did you solve your issue or you still need some help?

No, I did not solve the problem. I got a cheap phone in the meantime, but haven't been able to figure anything out with the 5x. Maybe it is a hardware issue, IDK, and I dont really know where else to go in terms of troubleshooting, I'm sorta in over my head here. I wish I could narrow down the problem though, even If it is just to find out that it is a hardware problem and I'm screwed at least I would have a little clarity/closure.
hello I have the same problem my phone says no service and only emergency calls, I followed some solutions nothing yet. I would like to find a solution since it does not detect the available networks

Unable to flash the desired carrier stock ROM on Galaxy S20 SM-G981U with Odin

I have a model S20 SM-G981U that is carrier locked to SPR. But it was flashed to the latest Metro rom with Odin accidently. My ultimate goal is to carrier unlock the phone.
Now with the Metro rom, it doesn't come with any carrier unlock app to unlock the phone. I tried flashing the phone back to Sprint using the following ROM:
Download SM-G981U / Galaxy S20 5G SM-G981U SPR in Samfw - Samsung firmware download
SM-G981U / Galaxy S20 5G SM-G981U SPR samsung firmware download all model, lastest, fast update, completely free and fast speed in Samfw.com ✅
samfw.com
Odin shows that the flashing was successful, and the phone was successfully factory reset after the flash.

TIA for any help or advise you can give.
The phone detects the CSC to use from the SIM. Do you have Metro SIM?
Oh that was a brilliant suggestion, ShaDis. I had hoped that it was the case. I just removed the Sim card that was in it, a Cricket Wireless sim, and tried reflashing the phone and the same thing happened It's still showing the Metro logo when the phone starts and the same "TMK/TMK/SPR" as the provider software in the Software info screen.
Did you ever get a solution to this issue? I have the same problem with an accidental metro pcs flahs. Thanks
I do not understand what the problem is. Update was successful. What is wrong?

There's no such thing as an "accidental metro pcs flash". The Metro model has the exact same model number as the Sprint model, and the firmware is also identical.
Since T-Mobile bought Sprint, Sprint's devices have automatically been made compatible with T-Mobile. That means that when you insert a T-Mobile SIM into a Sprint device (even if it's still SIM locked), it's gonna give you the popup prompt to "reboot to apply new carrier settings" (as if it were SIM unlocked). That's because it no longer needs to be unlocked in order to be used on T-Mobile.
And, since T-Mobile owns Metro, the same thing probably goes for a Metro SIM.

I found out that they all use the same flash firmware files. When the phone detects a sim card in it, it would show the appropriate carrier's logo. My phone was locked to Sprint previously, so I couldn't get it unlocked by calling T-mobile. So I'm stuck with a phone that will only work with T-Mobile
