Hello folks,
I have encountered a weird behaviour of my beloved 5X when on mobile data.
It occured for the first time approximately 8 or 9 days ago (well, at least that's where I really noticed for the first time since I am on WiFi for 80-90% of the day).
Suddenly everything Google-related stopped working. I could not get into my mails (blank screen and the loading circle for an eternity), I could not get google now to work properly, facebook didn't work (also blank screen + loading circle) and and and....finally google now and facebook showed some content but without any pictures. The same happened when I tried to use Chrome to browse the web. Either I could not get a connection to any website I tried to enter or something showed up but without pictures loading and veeeeeery slowly.
Strange thing was that everytime I just searched for something via Google, the results showed up almost immediately, but then again as soon as I tried to enter a webpage nothing was working.
This happened a lot of times until now, sometimes a reboot is helping, sometimes not. Sometimes airplane mode on/off is helping, sometimes not.
This is driving me crazy and I don't know how to proceed.
Is there any app for mobile data diagnostics or some kind of tool which can monitor the in- and out-data of my mobile network?
My carrier is Vodafone in Germany and this is definitely not a carrier-problem since I know a lot of people with Vodafone who did not have any problems in the couple last days.
Any advice on how to proceed in order to delimit the possible causes for this behaviour would greatly by appreciated.
Thank you in advance. :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Hi,
Recently my P3300 started behaving strangely.
When working on it, it suddenly starts scrolling without me touching anything.
Sometimes it stops, but after a few seconds it starts over again.
I have it when using the contacts list, typing an SMS, ...
I already flashed a new ROM and changed the battery, but same behaviour.
It's driving me mad, because it has practically become unuseable this way.
Does anybody have an idea about the cause?
Thx,
Vince
I have the same problem, but only when i am using internet explorer....
p3300,scrollig
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. But i think the problem comes when there is traffic on wifi... so when i use IE, but if i use the internet throught activesync there is no problem, just with wifi
Please Masters, help us
Hi all,
In my case there is the solution:
If i change the power mode of the wifi to best performance, then everything is ok... there is no scrollig randomly...
Well in my case it starts random scrolling whenever the ie is started...it doesn't matter if it connects via gprs, active sync or wifi....however since i gave the device a cleaning it doesn't seem to do it so often
Basically for the last 2 months all the apps that use internet have basically stopped loading/take 9-10 minutes, except for chrome and messaging. Pictures won't even try loading on twitter and facebook. Most of the times I try to open up google play the whole thing is just grey and infinitely loads or never even tries to.
Every now and again it starts working like normal and oh boy do i cherish those moments but that happens maximum once a day then it stops. I know it's not a connection speed issue because videos will load quickly on browser youtube and pages load normally. I have no idea why this happened, all of a sudden it stopped working.
None of my other devices do this with my connection. I haven't rooted my device or anything but I still did a factory reset and nothing changed. The only period it worked for like 2 hours was when I change the UI or whatever from blink feed to something like dodol. I've had the thing for like 4 months now COMMON I am going absolutely mental, I have so much work to do and a practically bricked phone is not helping so I will be indebted for life to anyone who can come up to a solution.
Thanks guys.

Hard mode: Run a logcat and have it saved to a .txt file on your PC, let it run for a while, while attempting to open the apps you said give problems, if there is an error that's causing it you can find it that way. A lot of reading though.
Easy mode: Restore a nandroid backup for your device.
I would suggest to restore just the system, boot but not data but your problem might be because of some app in there so you'll have to restore the data as well and start from scratch. Seeing as you already did a factory reset and lost everything, something that you restored has to cause this issue.
If you're having reboot problems please post here - if there are problem apps or bad devices out there it would be good to know!
Got a new Nexus 5X yesterday for my partner. Plugged it in and charged all day (oh what patience). 10pm started setup and added account to it. Phone immediately did an update which succeeded. Then it started to install the saved apps from the Google account, about 50 in all. After all the apps were installed I handed it over to her to play and log into all those apps with logins. Tedious.
Within about 30 minutes she tried to take a photo and it rebooted. Then a bit later she was using it and it rebooted again. Before going to be it rebooted a few more times. Then again this morning. There wasn't one particular app or other that was in use when these crashes happened. During the day she saw a message about "Google needs to restart". Also the camera often comes up with an all black screen and can't be used.
I called Google tech support and they wanted to do a factory reset and maybe a cache partition wipe. They would also like to investigate if a rogue app is causing the crashes by using it without any apps installed. Because reinstalling apps is so tedious I decided to have her do a cache partition reset I'm awaiting news. I'm hoping we don't have to do the other... I can't imagine how a bad app could be causing such repeated crashes (well I can, but it just shouldn't happen). That's lame...
It would really help if it was easy to get a crash log and find out the cause - unfortunately unless you're rooted this doesn't seem to be easy, and may well be impossible.
I've been having a lot of similar-sounding issues with my 5X. It's never rebooted while I was using it, but once or twice a day I'll pull it out of my pocket and it will be off, awaiting the unlock pattern to boot up.
The camera has been atrocious as well. I've seen the black screen you describe, tons of rotation lag, hanging, etc. Not just in Camera, but in other apps using the camera (such as when attaching a photo to a Hangout). Hoping this is something software-related and not a hardware problem.
I've had mine spontaneously reboot twice so far, both times I've pulled it out of my pocket and it required the PIN to unlock, then it booted up. I'm a bit concerned, as I have no idea when this happened, and, since it's encrypted a reboot essentially puts me offline until I notice it.
I just now had mine reboot during active use for the first time. I was long-pressing a wifi network in order to forget it (which is another 5x problem I keep having—wifi turns itself off or connects to the wrong networks).
My 5x was working fine and the crashing started happening yesterday...
they only app that i recently installed before the crashes started was firefox... are you guys using firefox by any chance???
Mine is still working fine, I do not have Firefox.
Same problem for me when using Firefox. The phone seems to crash and reboot when loading news websites containing photos and videos.
Not seen the issue when not using Firefox.
I've had my nexus 5x since mid/late November 2015. I've had the problem described below happen prior to today, and more than once.
Today, I cant turn my phone off - it seems to be in the middle of a reboot... the four coloured circles (google logo?) with colours going round and round. I powered it off cos it had started going slow... thought a reboot might fix the problem... but now its not starting and I cant even turn it off or do anything with it.. I've tried pressing the power button, I've tried holding the power button down, and I've tried different combinations... nothing seems to make a difference... (has been in that state of un-useablity for at least 30 mins now)
Anyone else also having wi-fi issues where facebook has an error and "cant connect" ?
I had the same thing happen and returned the phone, it's the only solution I found. I factory reset multiple times, called up Google and they told me to safe boot. Right.. I was completely stock and it rebooted multiple times / day and I know what I'm doing too, for the most part anyway. Got a replacement device and it has not once rebooted no matter what I do. Camera, Chrome random apps caused a reboot, it's not that. It's a defective device and you need to get it replaced period.
I have the same thing and can't sent it back to google because I live outside the US.
I believe it is a manufacture defect as I tried everything with no success really annoying.
Stuck with a brick...

I used my phone completely stock for weeks and had zero issues, whereas I have a friend who ordered and received the phone at the exact same time (likely same mfg batch) and had issues. Difference between us two is that I'm a minimalist and only have about 50 apps installed, and he has a ton that he rarely uses and restores them every time.
I know it seems ridiculous, but having an android phone gives you more customization and your apps more power of the phone, so it's completely feasible for ONE rogue app to destroy performance and/or battery.
You guys might all want to try uninstalling apps one by one and figuring out which apps are killing performance. In particular, check out the running services (developer options -> running services) and see which apps are constantly running, since those are more likely to be the ones causing issues.
For example, I've used firefox (for adblocked browsing) for weeks recently, and can definitely say it's a pretty slow app, so if you're having issues on it, you may want to just use chrome or lightning browser.
I just ordered a replacement as well. Mine would reboot about 1 to 2 times a week right after the fingerprint unlock. Annoying as hell today because I was in the middle of a conf call.

Hi, i have a big issue with this phone, i bought it like 2 weeks ago.
Since the 2nd day of use, i started to experience this issue, sometimes and usually when im not using wifi but mobile data, the screen goes to lockscreen, if i try to unlock it will lock again and that happens a couple of times, maybe 2, 3, 4, 5 times, sometimes i have to press lock button and try again. its really annoying, because somtimes it doesnt happen in a lot of time and then after 1 hour in the street and while im using it it locks and unlocks like crazy.
i did a soft factory reset but didnt work, i even tried in safe mode and it still happens.
yesteday i noticed that it even wakes up for no reason, that happened while i was driving in a highway, it suddenly wakes up like if i touched it, i disabled every feature about auto waking (like 2 touch, motion detection) but it still happens.
the only thing that makes it stop is if i switch airplane mode, so i guess maybe its something related to network (not wifi or location or mobile data because i disabled those and still happened), but when it is in airplane mode it will work fine, obv thats not a real solution.
i tried disabling and uninstalling a lot of apps but i cant figure out whats making this, im pretty sure its software problem, something related to network but i dont know.
do you have any ideas? even if i take it to tech service it will be hard to show them because sometimes it doesnt happen in hours.
anybody has an idea what could be causing my phone to lock for no reason while using it on the street?
Your phone gone kaboom
I have same problem, the problem is caused by the weak signals, which means that your phone connectivity is constantly changing, for example on a highway or in a basement. Solutions I have none, just waiting samsung to make a fix
Yes, thats exactly the problem. When signal is weak the phone locks or unlocks. I asked for a new phone at the store and they gave me a new one.

Are you having this issue?

Btw i don't think this is a software problem because if it was a software problem all phones would having this issue. I think it's a problem with some hardware failing in some phones. IMEI of failed phone is 356711101439414 check if yours is similar

Hi, I recently encountered a problem when I turn off my airplane mode. Usually (around 2-3 years ago), and normally on other phones, one would receive all the unreceived messages immediately after turning off airplane mode. However, this does not happen for almost two years now when I turn off my airplane mode. It usually takes around 10 minutes and up to an hour for any message to be received at any time after I turn off the airplane mode.
This gets annoying when certain apps ask for OTP authentication. Weirdly enough, some apps that are designed to detect the OTP automatically would not have problem even if the message of the OTP is received an hour later. While this is something to be grateful for, some apps still don't have that technology.
Is there any way to fix this?
For additional note: 1) I have been regularly using the airplane mode whenever I'm home since the first time I bought this phone (2018) and only encountered the problem since 2021; 2) I have tried hard reset, changing ROMs, but it only worked shortly. Once I turn the airplane mode on regularly, the delay will happen again; 3) I installed the PE 10 in 2020.
Thanks in advance!
It may be persist partition is corrupted. Search for fix on xda.
Or try to change message app.
