Unable to access fastboot - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just got a refurbished LG G4, and i'm unable to reboot to fastboot mode. I want to install TWRP and LineageOS. Before that i have to unlock the bootloader.
I followed this guide : [HOWTO][H815] Complete Guide to Unlock Bootloader + TWRP + Root + Xposed + ViperFX . I'm stuck at "1. Unlocking the bootloader officially" -> viii) ...adb reboot bootloader etc...
I tried on Windows and GNU/Linux "adb reboot bootloader" and "adb reboot-bootloader", with and without administrator/super-user right without any success....
The phone reboot to Android. However the phone can reboot in recovery and download mode.
The phone is still in android 5.1, and come from T Mobile (the phone suggest upgrade from T Mobile).
One strange thing is the dmesg usb connection log on GNU/Linux :
Code:
[195563.124097] usb 2-2: new high-speed USB device number 43 using ehci-pci
[195563.257487] usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=1004, idProduct=631d
[195563.257498] usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[195563.257506] usb 2-2: Product: LGE Android Phone
[195563.257512] usb 2-2: Manufacturer: LG Electronics Inc.
[195563.257518] usb 2-2: SerialNumber: LGH81029e8b9d6
The serial number start with H810, and the phone is labelled H815 in the stickers under the battery, and on the info on Android...
What can I try to get the fastboot mode?

The refurbished phone says "H810" on download mode. The IMEI was modified too to appear be a H815, as the stickers etc... The phone is counterfeit...
Someone have/had the same problem?

Settings -> developer options -> OEM unlock enabled?

I requested a refund. The vendor falsified the IMEI and model number. The Android image seems to be frankenstein-like too. It proposes me to upgrade with "T-Mobile" (and fail at reboot), and the default welcome page on the web browser is att.net (after a complete wipe out)...
I don't know how to solve this problem. I need more LTE band (working but it's poor comparing to my Xperia Z1c). I have the band 7, but I need band 3, 20 and 28.
1. Which method (unlock bootloader, install TWRP, etc...) i must use the one for H815 or the one for the H810 ? Which image of Lineage OS ? Logically the H810 one?
2. Is there a way to revert back the phone to its original model and IMEI ?
3. Finding the original IMEI? Maybe with the original SN?

Install LG Phone From and run it,maybe you'll get more information...

I tried LG Bridge, and it detect the phone has a H815. When it tries to upgrade the phone, on the reboot, on download mode, the phone show information like H810 H81010o, and stay stuck here. The software on windows report a fail.
"LG Phone From" report a H815, with the IMEI on the label.
I read that it's possible to modify the model name(here on XDA) and the IMEI (QPSK or LG "something" by Octopuss). Seem's that some vendor in Aliexpress are not very straight...

not all phone can be unlocked. h810 cant. so try getting one of these in this list.
tell them when you upgrade it doent work cause its all messed up. you want refund or a phone from the list.

Is there a way to revert back the phone to the correct model (H810) ?
I read this Lg G4 F500L - Fixing and Converting to International H815 Model
The solution is to modify the TOT file? How to do that ?

Did it. The discussion is on the way.

Opened the phone, the mainboard is labeled VS986.
So :
-Download mode claim H81010o
-Android show H815
-Mainboard is labeled VS986
So my phone is a VS986 (ie the mainboard). Is there a way to make it a VS986 for Android and Download Mode, like the mainboard was originally?

I tried the KDZ for Verizon (VS986). LGUP fail because the model reported is H815. I will try with "LG Flash Tool 2014".
Another solution could be writing directly the eMMC with eMMC DL Tool. I didn't find the VS986 bin file for now.

I successfully flashed the phone with "LG Flash Tool 2014".. It's now a VS986 (claimed by android) and as labeled on the motherboard.

is all working .. too bad you wont have unlocked bootloader.

Yes, and :
LTE isn't working (verizon limitation)
Sticker labelled H815

What I've found out about my G4 Frankenphone so far:
- sealed box said LG G4 'dual LTE'
- sticker on phone under battery says H811 and has a valid corresponding IMEI
- phone model in settings/device info is H810 with IMEI 0! :crying:
- download mode screen is in Korean with some mention of F500L v11d...
- the phone came rooted running LP
- it is registered on my network, working 4G LTE!
I've been hoping to custom OS and reinstate a sensible IMEI but from everything I've read and not been able to do (can't flash anything and always coming across 'barriers') and to avoid bricking the phone, I am giving up. I have contacted the vendor and told him to find a replacement, clean G4 or clean G3. Seems to me that the G3 is a lot more versatile in terms of the support, especially here, for it. I shall miss the spec. of my G4 and it's greeeat camera!
- unless someone can convince me otherwise or point me to a G4 FrankenRom link and successful instructions!

LG G3 LS990 Hard Brick/Wont Turn On/No LED No Light/Black Screen

hi, I tried T-Mobile version of CloudyG3 2.2 ROM on my LG G3 LS990, when it asked for a reboot, I rebooted it and since then its not turning on anymore, there is no LED, no screen, nothing. I tried many times to press and hold power button and combinations of volume up and down keys, no luck. Before the ROM update it had good amount of battery, more than 80%.
However when I pluck it in with my computer, Windows detects it as "LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (COM41)". Thus I got luck. I changed it to COM41 and tried to flash it ZV4 TOT using LG Flash Tool, but it says as below:
--------------------------------------------------
PID: NULL
IMEI: NULL
Model:
DLL: LS990
BIN: LS990ZV4_04.51101.TOT
SWV:
SWOV:
Model Information Check FAIL!
00000000
--------------------------------------------------
I guess the T-Mobile ROM might have updated its model number somewhere or did some changes. I used LG Flash Tool before and used ZV4 TOT to unlock my phone, and it was working fine with bare-pop ROM (LP 5.1). Then I thought to try CloudyG3 2.2 with another variant's ROM file since it doesn't have any for LS990 yet.
One more thing is the when the battery is removed and phone is connected to computer, there is a sign on the phone-screen, that says battery is not present. So the screen is fine I believe.
Thanks and will appreciate if someone can help to fix my issue.

I have the same issue . while flashing img files from stock zv4 my phone restarted. and now picks up as lge androidnetusb instead of qualcom qh sub bulk thing like before I could use and flash files with. I tried to short circuit capacitors to take me back to qh sub but its only for lg g2. not g3

Makes sense that your phone is bricked because Cloudy G3 currently does not support the LS990.
Keep trying to enter download mode.

I had the same, I edited the tot file, deleted the d855 (in your care ls990) and I avoided this error but it didn't flash.
I suggest you seek for the qhusb 9008 fix, boarddiag etc. It's actually pretty easy (but you have to open the device)
Have any of u used the guide here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/guide-fix-hard-brick-recovery-guide-t3132359
Fixed through JTAG
I had it fixed from a guy using jtag. Had to pay him $30 though

Cannot unlock bootloader on a repaired H815

My bootloader unlocked H815 suddenly froze (hard bricked) with no response to anything other than the boot screen.
Sent it for repair. They replaced the CPU and RAM. The repaired H815 came back locked with 10C.
The IMEI stayed the same, but the device ID was changed (fastboot...devic-id).
When trying to obtain a new UNLOCK.BIN file on the LG developers site, I get the message that my device ID does not match.
I managed to root the H815, but I cannot install a recovery (TWRP). This prevents me from installing any ZIP file since I have no access to recovery (XPOSED, V4android, etc.).
Please advice
Thanks
Anyone?
U should email lg developer for help.. I saw a lot of people facing this problem also
Sent my IMEI and new Device ID to LG (via LGE Developer site)
waiting for the new key file
Waiting for the Sקמא צט
I just sent a mail to developer (at) lge.com with the same problem. The IMEI stayed the same, but the Device-ID changed when they replaced the motherboard. I had unlocked my g4 before it went in repairs. Actually the combination Genesys MM with xposed 79, G4 tweaksbox, the lack of recovery installed and USB debugging disabled is what hard bricked my phone in the first place. Something made LGUP unable to find the model of the phone.
I will update this post with any response I get from the email.
UPDATE:
It worked. They asked me to send a photo of the back of my phone (with IMEI number). After that they said I could try again and that the site should now give me the unlock.bin. It did.
Thanks LG!

Need help to find the proper firmware to flash

Hi all,
Sorry if this is a noob question but I am completely new to LG. I have a second hand LG G4 h815v10h on android 5.1, and I want to upgrade manually since the OTA doesn't find any update for me.
I installed LG UP but after installing the phone drivers and launching LG UP, it shows me "model unknown" and I can't run the software because "You have to select a known model, please"
Here are my phone specs :
Model number : LG-h815
Android version : 5.1
Baseband : MPSS.BO.2.5.c3.00100.M8992FAAAANAZM-1
Kernel : 3.10.49
Build number: LMY47D-XT
Sofware version : H81510h
Thank you so much for the help !

You could check out this link: http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G4/H815/Marshmallow+6.0/
However, as the phone is 2nd hand, the ONLY way to be sure what actual model you have bought, is to open up the phone and check the model # on the motherboard. There are guides with pictures on the web to show how to do this: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/LG+G4+Teardown/42705
You could end up bricking your phone flashing an incorrect kdz for your actual phone model, so better to be 100% sure, first.

Thanks for the answer.
After looking for the model number, I found out mine is F500L, even though I have h815 installed
Also, LG Bridge managed to find an update : F500l30B but fails to install the update everytime.
Aaaand another problem is even though I want to flash the phone with adb, I can't unlock the bootloader because the box "Allow OEM unlock" in development options doesn't want to activate itself. Grrrr...
Any other clue ?

You could try using LGUP-NEW (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803) to flash using the upgrade mode but it might be better to use the refurbish mode with the same android version you are on now and if successful, then use the upgrade mode to install the newer android version.
However, it looks like whomever you bought the phone from might have converted to H815 following this guide:
Lg G4 F500L - Fixing and Converting to International H815 Model at https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-f500l-restore-signal-flash-815-t3214574
I would type in "go back to F500L" in the search thread box there first, to see what other members have had the same issue and whether they were able to do it successfully etc.

LG G4 H815 running MM with Anti-rollback version 4 !!!!!!!

Helle everyone, I recently purchased an LG G4 H815 running MM from eBay, it is supposed to be INTERNATIONAL VERSION, but I had noticed first that Android PAY does not work (when I try to launch the app it does not let me in and says that I am running a custom ROM or I have a rooted phone or unlocked bootloader) which none I personally did. Then I tried to verify my anti-rollback version because I couldn't update to Nougat, the HIDDEN MENU code supposed to work for my model H815 didn't work, but instead, the code related to the American versions (ATT and T-Mo) WORKED, AND MY DEVICE HAS anti-rollback version = 4 !!!! as far as I know, the most recent one is 3, how is that even possible??? (see Pictures for more infos)
( Unfortunately I couldn't figure out a way to upload pictures here so here is a link to Imgur)

There are many Frankenstein devices out there.. One thing is 100%: you have a refurbished device. So it's definitively NOT a pure h815.
H815 devices have no ARB!
Please make a backup of your device with SALT ( https://bit.do/SALTatXDA ) - basic is fine. And share the resulting files i.e. via Google drive.
Having that backup is crucial important regardless. And I want to take a look into your bootloader stack to find out which one is installed.

Thanks for the reply man, i really appreciate it.
1/ Yes it is a refurbished device
2/ I think it is Sprint version LS991 (according to the ABR - Sprint is the only version that has version 4)
3/ I checked the IMEI online and it confirms that it is a SPRINT device
3/ I found online that there is some CUSTOM ROMs that "converts" literally any version to H815 (mine shows 4g LTE logo when I am using ONLY 3G WCDMA in settings)
How to retreive the bootloader stack info in order to share it here for you to take a look ?
I am now trying to install SALT in LINUX - I will keep you up-to-date

Pls paste the SALT debug log in advanced menu as well. It's enough directly when started SALT with the device connected.
Many thx
Nvm got it. The important stuff is in your screenshot.
You have a converted device. Meaning you have the ls991 bootloader stack plus the h815 system. This is possible but more interesting would be: is your SIM working? Do you get mobile Internet? 3g,4g?

Many thanks for reply, yes everything works fine (Android Pay does not work), DATA works fine BUT even using ONLY GSM/3G WCDMA (no LTE) in the settings, I always see the 4g LTE logo when using DATA, I think they somehow changed/ replaced the 3g data logo in the status bar with 4g LTE logo, in order to make the user believe the device is compatible with his LTE carrier frequency (which is not correct of course)
This SPRINT device does not support LTE in the country I am using it in (Czech Republic), I verified it with the help of willlmyphonework.com website.
This is really so disgusting and unfaithful behaviour from SOME Chinese sellers on eBay, the SPRINT version is the cheapest one, so in order to RIP off customers, they CONVERT these models to H815 in order to sell them for more, and not everyone would have the knowledge to dig deep into the device info in order to verify the legitimacy of their product specs, this is sad...
Anyway, what should I do now which this devise? how can I at least install Nougat or have the OFFICIAL firmware without breaking the device??
Thanks for your time and precious information

Well.. We don't know if it is a ls991 or a h815 or a complete other device. The only way to say this for sure is to open the device and looking on the mainboard(!). But regardless you have a fusing device now and so you cannot install a h815 bootloader stack anymore. Say thx to ARB ( https://bit.do/antirollg4 ) which can hard brick your device.
It SEEMS that you can boot h815 ROMs but if you try to replace the bootloader stack coming with the N zip or the TOT (which you can find here on XDA) it will hard brick.
Interesting is that h815 is able to boot. It MAY be possible to boot N by just replacing modem, system and boot partition though. That depends on your bootloader stack.
Try to boot into fastboot from android:
adb reboot bootloader
You should see the fastboot screen. Could you make a photo of that? We MAY have luck and its a special one.

Unfortunately this command adb reboot bootloader just reboots the phone normally to android ( normal reboot)
I couldnt boot into fastboot because the Send command returns FAIL when I type id (so i cant move on in the process ...) Maybe locked bootloader??

Power off phone
Press vol down and keep it pressed
While doing so plugin the USB cable and wait
You may see fastboot now.

Well no. Some firmwares do not allow to boot into fastboot that's not that unlikely.
So what I can say is that you have a ls991 bootloader stack with a h815 system so it MAY be possible to install nougat but not yet. I will integrate flashing partitions to SALT soon. Until then you have to wait.

Has the flashing per folder been implemented? I think I may have the same problem with the OP. AT&T device with H815 system and ARB 3.

read the SALT thread. I provide changelogs for every release.
flashing is possible even now in a beta state. waiting on IRC (read the SALT thread - OP) is the only way if you want to participate on the beta test.

Hello! I have similar situation I have H815 ... but LGUP says H81521y it seems it has some strange software/modem/rom uploaded. It is marshmallow 6.0 I cannot get into fastboot mode so I cannot unlock bootloader. I tried to install TOT of Nougat via LGUP but no luck cause it turned out I have antirollback V3.
Is it possible for me to install TWRP and then any custom ROM? I don't know what to do right now...

Did you try unlocking the official way through LG website?
https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
The LG G4 H815 is officially unlockable

It seems it's H815 with AT&T Software with anti rollback v3. Adb reboot bootloader just restarts the phone, I tried to enter bootloader by keys combination. It enters firmware update mode.
I think due to v3 rollback I cannot do anything with this phone, am I right?

Correct (axcording to my experience). I had the same issue with my previous phone. It turned out to be a ls991 with H815 software.
The only way to know your Hardware is to take a look inside the phone , you will find it printed on the motherboard.

Mine has H815 printed on antenna and few other parts, in system it also says H815 in LGUP its H81521Y I think it's H815 with AT&T bootloader and therefore they flashed anti rollback V3 so at this point I cannot do anything...

LM-G710V going back to stock possible?

Hi!
I have this G7 with the model LM-G710V with an unlocked bootloader and managed to successfully flash Phh-Treble by following this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/development/rom-phh-aosp-8-1-t3808649 :victory:
but then i would like to convert back to stock but unfortunately there are no available KDZ for G710V in the interweb.
would it be possible to convert G710V to G710EM ,or to a similar effect, by flashing 10b Vendor img and boot img then the kdz found in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/development/dump-g7-stock-vendor-t3840834 ?
or would this just leave me with a dead bricked phone?
additional notes:
bought this phone as a secondhand from someone in facebook with the bootloader unlocked and with, as the seller stated, "G7+" rom with issues.
no backup was made before
Thank you for anyone willing to answer! :good::fingers-crossed:

Hello @xElouise, according to the LG Open Source Code Distribution website (here), the G710V is equivalent to:
G710VM
G710AWM
G710AWMH
G710VMP
G710VMX
KDZs from any of the models above should work fine, just note that they may come with carrier bloatware. Reflashing the stock firmware is the same as any other G7 version (here, up to the first half step 5).
Does your phone have an IMEI code and working telephony? Because from the info I have gathered on the internet, looks like the G710V is a retail demo unit without either baseband or IMEI.
Hey there! Thanks for the reply!
Unfortunately since after flashing Phh-Treble LGUP does not recognize the phone anymore (Shows up as Unknown)(maybe because i flashed the vendor img(?) idk.)
Anyway, since back then before flashing Phh-Treble i was already trying to flash KDZs Thru LGUP, but unfortunately LGUP throws me error saying it does not support cross flashing.
I have tested the following before:
G710VM - LGUP Error cant cross flash G710V to G710VM
G710AWM - LGUP Error cant cross flash G710V to G710
G710VMX - LGUP Error cant cross flash G710V to G710
This unit IMEI & Baseband says unknown. This also has the white sticker at the back with some of it's details like unit model, FCC Id, etc.

Try hooking it up to LG bridge. It will automatically recognize the phone in download mode and it will update it to the latest stock.

LG Bridge fails to recognize the phone on download mode.
It says " Notice: Can not connect. disconnect the USB cable from your computer and reconnect" done this multiple times, even swapped usb cables with other phone
edit: So i was able to make LGUP recognize the device again but still same problem with cross flashing <see pic for reference>

You can contact the guy that sold the phone to you and see if he has a dump. Otherwise I can pack the system and the vendor but I'm not 100% sure if it will work
Hi, is your unit the demo unit one, without phone function and with retail mode app? Did you encounter any issues with the flashed ROM so you're changing again? I managed to land one of those demo units but there's too much restriction for usage so I was thinking of flashing another ROM but I'm a complete noob with regards to that.
Thanks.

@LameMonster82 , The seller said that he bought it off someone when it has boot loop issues and have his buddy fix it for him & he does not have any backup (guess that makes me a third hand(?) not really affected by it since i got the unit for a dirt cheap price around <$100 and it's quite a smooth unit too).
If you could, in your spare time of course, make the pack that would be really much appreciated! Thank you very much!
@ceezae , This may be a demo unit since i got it without any sim functions and a blank IMEI. I don't know about retail mode, though there was an widget applet before which showcases LG G7's features. I already bought the unit with it's boot loader already unlocked so I have no idea how a G710V got unlocked. When i bought the unit it does not have any audio at all either thru the headphone or speaker that's why i flashed a custom rom.
Anyway , since I flashed Phh-Treble 8.1 the phone's working smoothly aside from the aforementioned bugs in this thread
I am going back to stock since i can not utilize the quad DAC feature in custom rom and I could not get Gcam to work (it either crash or extremely Laggy)
I would also like to mention that:
I can not seem to boot to recovery via (Vol down + Power button) it always say that "Factory Reset is Disabled by Kill Switch" even though OEM Unlock is ticked in the developer settings as well as unsynced Google Account.
And my internal storage is showing that I only have 16 GB of internal (would be easy to fix with TWRP but again no luck with custom recovery)

Hi there!
I am terribly sorry but my device is kinda a bit soft bricked(?) at the moment.
I was trying to flash the Stock Korean PIE KDZ and was successful but it had problems like WIFI can not be turned on and Random Reboots.
I think I also have lost access to Fastboot since the phone only Reboots itself normally.
My dumb self did not make a backup so I am a bit screwed at the moment.
Someone with an intact phone (which hasn't been flashed) will have to pack up their partitions and post it here. The G710V seems to be technically similar to the G710N but can't actually be flashed to a G710N (you can force this through using LGUP but it results in a phone that crashes all the time due to some issue with the wifi driver).

Hey, I tried backing up these via adb shell myself on my G10V but... "permission denied". Great. Probably because the demo units force a Retail Mode device administrator that you can't remove at all. Can't even access the page itself in Settings ("you are not authorized..." blah blah). It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to helping OP.
have you succeeded I have the same problem as you
