[Miui.eu 7.2.9] Poor battery life - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

Hello guys,
what is happening? Is battery faulty or something is "leeching"? Standby drain is imho insane, about 1.5-2% every hour.

Before you doing anything, please let your device to settled down for a week. If the problem persist, then try the solution given by BPSoft

So far I could achieve the best battery gains with the following step: Settings / Battery & Performance / Hide System Animations.

it's strange, i have same battery life on global and eu 6 to 7 hours of screen time.

Last week ,I move from global to 7.2.9 . and I still have 7 hours of battery life

Thanks for all replies.
Well, I was experiencing the issue about qfp-service.
I uninstalled it and now I'm testing the phone. Seems to be a little better, but not too much.
Just a little question, may battery really be faulty or it's just my paranoia?
And, maybe more important, it's normal to have battery consumption divided in 64% software (15.4% Android System, 12.1% OS Android) and only 36% hardware (23.4% screen)?
The strange thing is that I can achieve ~5h of screen time or ~3h in two consecutive days, how much I use the phone seems does not matters.

I'm using the latest weekly miui eu and have no problems at all

Battery is not problem rom has drain..
It start from 7.1.19..
7.2.9 same has drain....
I am testing now 7.2.16

By the way, I ran a PcMark test.

I understand. Well, during the night I keep my phone on charge, so this is not a problem. The important is when I'm at work, where I have wifi and I need to keep it on to receive notifications etc.

Well than only what i can tell you is that drain is connected with wifi....

I upgraded from 8.0.10.0 to 8.2.2.0 both from xiaomi.eu.
With the last upgrade my mi5s started having qfp-service draining like a mad.
It was ~2m (100% to ~20% batt.) while now is 34m (~100% to 60% batt.).
Many people were complaining about fp reader, so I think that they (upstream, miui.com) come with a "fix" that introduced the problem.
Now I have frozen com.qualcomm.qti.biometrics.fingerprint.service like someone is suggesting.

Guys, the GNex I am using is VZW LTE device.
I know its battery issue and have been playing around to find the best balance to use both LTE/all awesome features while keeping the phone alive for sometime.
So far my set up ,before I went bed yesterday, was pretty satisfactory: Franco kernel 15.1 + Gummy 0.7 + Hybrid Radio .
Before I go sleep, it has 31%.
This morning, after 5.5 hours sleeping, I press the phone. It is DEAD, seems long time ago.
Took a screenshot of the battery usage, here it is

Any idea why this may be the case?
I tried to look at the wakelock info but because the phone was dead, I can't really see what was there using "since unplug".
May run it down today and monitor why =((
Well, the last drop was when you seemed to have a really bad signal for some reason and the first drop was when you were actively using the device, so you should look at the apps you were using and what you were doing at the time. Outside of these two drops the device had a normal signal and normal battery drop.

Thanks . I do acknowledge the active use part and not surprised. What bugs me is that it was on wifi at last 30%.... so with wifi on,no usage,a change in radio signal can cause this drainage ? I think this is not normal

Same has happened to me, and a few others. There are posts about it on Androidcentral. Basically the phone drops the network then spends the rest of its battery trying to reconnect to it. Its possibly an authentication issue. It has happened twice to me. It doesnt happen if you leave the phone in 3G mode. Even with WiFi on, it can happen, because the phone still needs to maintain network connection for phones and data. This is on the LTE Nexus,

With low/no signal, the phone boosts power to the radio and tries to search for the signal. This is normal cellular phone operation and has been for many years.
It's a pretty big drop, but as has been said you can really hammer your battery when your device is searching for signal.
I notice that your screenshot shows wifi on.
Franco 15.1 had a faulty wifi driver that was sapping people's batteries. This is fixed in 15.2. Flash your Franco to 15.2 and those problems should go away immediately. My idle drain is now 2mA.
Have you tried Juice Defender? Give it a shot. It is a big help with standby drain.

cell standby a hardware issue???

long time android user, and my GF just upgraded to her first smartphone to the galaxy nexus, same phone i have. and the battery sucked, she had 50% left and went to work and within 2 hours it was dead, so i unlocked/rooted. and installed aokp 3 milestone along with franco krenel to the latest milestone. same rom and kernel i have, and i get atleast 14+ hours on regular use nothing turned off.
her battery status looks like it usally the cell standby to blame, could this be a hardware issue? i completly wiped data/dalvik/battery and did new install, going to try again flashing back to complete stock. but could this be a hardware issue?

Turn off 4g.
have you checked if you both have the same radio? you can try that
also maybe check hows reception on her workplace
So... she had bad signal. Phone sat there trying to get 4G / hang on to a bad signal. Will drain the battery 100% to 0% in a few hours if you let it do that.
no i haven't tried turning 4g off yet, shouldn't have to i wouldn't think. she lives in seattle and i live 30miles further north of from her, and i don't have a problem with 4g conection. but i'll try that just to see if it gives a different result.
Well I can tell you right now, AOKP gets absolutely HORRID battery life. Try BAMF.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Download juice defender and set it to balanced. You will see a HUGE difference with standby drain.
If you have a third of the time without signal, I would expect energy to drain a lot, as the radio will keep trying to find a signal and consume way more energy than if it is connected and in stand by.

yea im useing AOKP and get great battery on my phone, but not hers, thats why i was wondering if it COULD be a hardware issue, or if this is always a software issue.

Ditto that. It's easy to blame a particular ROM for one's battery woes, but the truth of the matter is it's invariably something else causing the drain.

Constantly turning on/off mobile data when the screen is off will more than likely drain the battery more than leaving it on. Not to mention that you'll get no background sync or notifications.

No I think you have to turn it off if its right on that fringe area. Plus lte networks and radios are very immature ans have a lot of years to get fully optimized and tweaked to match current cell coverage performance. You're using a brand new network technology that has a long way to go. Beta testing.

Jelly Bean battery life issue(?) for a newbie

Hello all!
I'm a brand new and happy user of the galaxy Nexus. Bought it two days ago and of course I started to play around with it quite a lot.
It was not new but it was used rarely, especially in the past 3 months. The phone itself is five months old.
I am just wondering if it is normal that the battery drains so quickly. Considering the fact that as a new toy i am using it quite strongly I still find it too fast eating the power.
The other thing is that could be in relation with this is that I think it is very strange seeing that something keep waking up my phone when it should be sleeping.
Let me attach a screenshot about battery stats. Please ignore and forgive it that it is in hungarian. The important thing is still visible.
What shall I do?
Thanks in advance!

How much screen-on time? With crappy signal and a LOT of awake time, I'm not surprised at all by 15hrs of total time.
You have an app (or a few) keeping your phone awake quite often. That alone will drain the battery. Try something like "Better Battery Stats" to see whats keeping the phone awake.
Yeah I forgot to mention that I had very bad reception for that time in the mountains. Screen on time was around 45 minutes - one hour.
How shall I look for apps not letting my phone going to sleep? Any free subsidiary for Betterbattery?

If your getting bad signal I suggest turning off your sync unless you need it, most of the time battery life is a result of the user or the apps they use better battery stats is a good app to find out what apps are keeping your phone from sleeping, also just a tip posting about battery life can get nasty responses good luck man

Judging by the wake bar, go to Latitude and in Location Settings sign out of Latitude. Google Now still works and you won't get your device constantly updating your position while screen off. I believe when you turn on Google Now it automatically signs you into Latitude as well.
Just trying to find out how to spy out apps using my phone than they should.

get BetterBatteryStats. I am sure that you'll just see googlelocationupdateetcetcwhateveritwascalled at the top of wake locks
Ok now I am quite sure that it's the wifi that keeps waking up the device. After testing two days with wifi on and yesterday with wifi turned off it seems obvious.
I also find another topic where an other guy found the same answer... Very strange and very annoying.

I think the betterbatterystats is the best way to go as mentioned earlier. You might find that it's an app that is calling the wifi connection that causes wifi to appear neat the top of your stats at present.

Very poor battery despite reviews?

Had my Note 2 since Saturday and the battery seems really poor to think everyone reviewing them said they were fantastic.

Day 2 from full charge to 6% I had 17 hrs 10 mins
Don't seem to have any rogue apps from battery monitors I've tried which makes sense as I've only downloaded about 10 apps.
Always have WiFi and GPS on which I always do on any phone, and have auto brightness off and set manually to just under half way.
I have dropbox set up to automatically upload camera pictures but under battery monitor this only uses 0.5% of battery use.
I also seem to have a faulty S Pen which sometimes seems too sensitive as it'll draw or open menus/apps with the pen about 1cm from the screen, and other times the pen doesn't recognise the air/hover mode and I have to press firmly to draw.
Any ideas?
Between this and the over sensitive S Pen, I'm beginning to think I just have a faulty phone!?
If it was as easy as taking it to a store I would, but I received it free with a 2 year contract from an online company in the UK called Affordable Mobiles who seem to have pretty good reviews. They've said if I want an exchange or them to have a look at it I'd have to send it back and wait 2-3 days which I can't do really as I don't have a spare phone - but at the same time I don't want to start rooting the phone and messing about with launchers if it is a fault.
Thanks
Turn off gps. Thats sucking away your battery mate. Turn it on only when u need it.

IMO, to get more than 1 day with WiFi & GPS constantly on is good. On my Note 2, I am usually left with around 30% of battery left at the end of the day but I never have GPS turned on unless I need it, only my WiFi is on.

So why are you posting this exact same message in multiple threads without explanation?
Try resetting the phone and check it for another day without installing any third party apps if it gives the same result that it must be a faulty phone. Hope it helps.

Happens
You should judge your battery stats from your screen on time. Regular usage with sync and wifi and data enabled should get you between 5 and 8 hours, but it's possible to reach 10 and beyond with low brightness and no connectivity. If it's below 4, you can start thinking that something is wrong if you didn't do any crazy gps navigation or something, and start from there.

Well, mine can lasts up to 2 days with Wifi turned on when I'm awake. Also I have roughly 5 hours screen on time on average. Quite achievable with heavy debloating of the ROM and using custom kernel and probably with some undervolting done too.
P/S it's my first Android. Still learning. Please correct if I'm wrong :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
So far on my third day I have 10% left with 1d 5h on battery and 5h 13m screen on time.
Regarding issue I mentioned about the S Pen, Samsung are sending me a new one to try and rule out the phone
nothind wrong with your battery 5 hours screen on is good don't worry everything is fine

How would I fix the battery's calibration? This sounds logical to me, since it's draining EXTREMELY quickly. Take it off the charger, and within the next 20 minutes it has lost about 10-15%
Looked up how to "calibrate the battery", but it seems wiping battery stats doesn't do anything for your battery life... But my battery is just draining like hell with no apparent reason...
And after the first 20 mins and 10-15%, how does it uncharge ? Quick again or with normal speed ? Battery drain and false battery stats are different things.

Then for me it's not drain, rather just a problem with the calibration. I've used this program with an old HTC which had battery problems. One last question, as a whole, how much time do you get with a full charge ?

I always try not to let it go below 30%, so with my regular use (music, a little bit of data here and there for browsing and whatsapping, maybe one or two phone calls, sometimes a text-message, and wifi when home) it reaches 30% after about 8,5 hours
So we could conclude that you get let's say 12 hours of NOT standby time, maybe moderate usage. Seems ok. It'd be good to hear some more opinions.
Iget about 12 hours or more of usage but if I play any games or switch on 3G it does discharge while charging

Try the stock charger without anything between the usb cable and the powerplug. If that doesn't work, try a better charger. The Samsung one that came with my mum's SIII works better than to stock Huawei charger IMO :cyclops:
