mate 10 pro is $799 but also free $150 gift card
better camera than oneplus 5t
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I think this is a price thing, if you don't care about the money you can choose the "little" better huawei...
but if you are not keen on amoled screens, I think the mate 10 without pro is the better choice.
Buy the 5T not because someone on XDA in the 5T forum says so but because Huawei is a really crappy company! Huawei already abandoned the Honor 8 that came out last year with great specs, they said in can't handle Oreo which is a blatant lie! They would rather sell you a new phone which I'm sure a lot would rather do but geez have some class!

While I don't disagree, your reasoning isn't exactly fair. Honor is a budget brand and similarly priced devices released around the same time also do not have Oreo
Not that the Honor 8 didn't get Oreo yet, it's NOT getting it! Huawei said the Honor 8 can't handle Oreo basically which is a lie. The Honor 8 has better specs than several phones running 8.0, and its not a budget handset by any measure.
I was in the same dilemma
the camera I'd say is better on the OnePlus 5t simply because it is smarter what I mean that there isn't auto hdr on the mate yes the hardware is better and more reliable on the mate but I just hate EMIUI
the selfie on the mate is a complete garbage on of the worst the oneplus's selfie is better
the software experience on the oneplus is far better which is the most important thing to me
the EMIUI is like 2 years old with the same crappiness which I can't live with
the htc 10 which was launched in 2016 along with 3/3t and galaxy s7 all are tipped to get oreo update unlike huawei
also the development community in the huawei is very weak so you can't even depend on that after official support ends
camera on the mate 10 isnt great. more oil paintings, bit like the 5T.
battery will be better though, updates about the sames as 5t and if you're in the uk can can get the mate 10 pro from carphone warehouse for £529 at the mo!
I like the specs of Huawei / Honor phones, but hate their EMIUI. Had one phone with it and it was just so horrible ugly and bloated.
Almost pure Android is much better.
Well... If you are willing to pay $800+ I'd suggest you to wait for Samsung S9. Huawei appeared out of nowhere and started selling phones for the high price just because specs are good on a paper. I personally have OnePlus 5T 8gig variant and I am satisfied with what I got for under $600. I can't say if camera is better or worse than Huawei mate 10 Pro but 5T does the job for me and higher mpx dont always mean better camera. Buy 5T and I am sure you wont regret but it is always your personal choice. We can tell you anything here.

ive had both
cant go wrong with either both are good
if you are keen on development then get the oneplus 5T as the mate 10 pro is a pain in the royal behind to download and flash things
I've had most Android devices. I go through them like water. The mate 10 pro was great hardware, but software made it unbearable for me. I've been using my red OP 5t for a few weeks now. I really love it especially with the Oreo update and gestures. I'm gonna stick with it as my DD until the S9+
After reading this thread im going to have nightmares about update.apps and software install failed. I will never spend another penny on a Huawei product....most finicky devices known to man.
Oh yea, get the 5T :good:
Hello!
So my wife has the Note 4 but it is pretty old by now and feels laggy. Unfortunately every new phone has this aspect ratio we both hate 18:9 aside from the Huawei Mate 10 and the the Note FE. Finding the FE seems hard with US warranty and the Mate 10 does not have an OLED screen which she loves. So...as she finds the Note 8 way too long with that hotdog shape...I started thinking the 5t even though is the same aspect ratio, being smaller might be a good alternative. The Mate 10 Pro is also on my short list.
Still, I am leaning towards the 5T the more I read about it. What you guys feel about it after using it for a while? How is Oreo doing on it? Please note that the phone will be completely stock as unlike me, my wife does not want ANY modifications to the stock roms lol
Is battery life really good? From the reviews I read I like that the UI seems very fast and smooth.
Anyways, anything you want to share (and if you came from a Note 4 even better). She does not really use the s-pen so she is fine losing that feature.
Thanks!
I came from Note 4 to OP5T and I love it.

I am guessing the camera is better too?
I am reading a lot of complaints of the 5T camera being worst than the 5 and from samples, it seems like that indeed. I even started considering the Mate 10 Pro now because of that and also the Pixel 2 XL (but with so many burn in issues probably not).
Thanks!
I had different phones, the Xiaomi redmi note 4 lg g6, oneplus 5, s8, and the s8 plus. But I am going to buy to the Xiaomi redmi note 5 pro excellent price performance. The Samsung s8 is also very good if u don't want to flash roms. Easy to setup and system wide ad blocker and almost every month security updates and a very nice screen.
I said go for the s8 the new Samsung experience is very good and many times better than the old touchwiz and a very good battery live and performance.
Currently I have Xiaomi Mi 8. But recently there are some interesting offers for second hand Google Pixel 2 XL for about 390.5 USD. Quite confusing because Xiaomi Mi 8 has newer chipset (SD 845), better display (Samsung AMOLED vs LG p-OLED), and larger RAM (6 GB vs 4 GB). But in the other hand Google Pixel 2 XL has much stronger camera, stock Android, it's like a dream device. I'm just a casual user (messenger, social media, browsing, Spotify, taking some photos for Instagram feed) What's your opinion? Should I keep my Xiaomi Mi 8 or goes to second hand Pixel 2 XL?
Its all about personal preference, I had an S8+, then moved to a One Plus 6 and finally settled on a Pixel 2 XL all within a 6 month period
I'd heard so much about the camera that I wanted to try it and I can happily say I am not disappointed at all
Just download a custom Gcam for your phone and keep it. There's plenty for Mi8.
The difference in camera between Chinese phone with Gcam or Pixel is too small to be worth it.
Just look at my photo comparison to make up your mind. It's a cheaper Xiaomi, so your result works be even better.

Haha maybe we have same story. I used Mi5s then my friends bought it, so I bought Mi 8, then I try Mi A2, then I came back to Mi 8. Then these Pixel 2 XL offers come. Indeed it's up to personal preference. I also put concern on second hand device, especially for OLED display and its battery. I already try to search for Pixel 2 XL spare part and it's quite hard to find, in other hand Mi 8 spare part is easy to find, despite quite pricey

Already tried GCam on Mi8 and Mi A2. Yes, it's totally improve photo quality
I would say to buy it at a good price and use it. If you don't like the 2 XL simply resell it.

I have also used many phones recently ( S8, S9, P20 pro, P20, Honor 10, Pixel 1, Pixel 2 etc)
I always had HTC U11 with me as second device and now using Pixel 2 XL as primary device, I have made comparison of photos between them after installing Googel camera 3 ports and result are identical ..some photos in dark lights are even better on HTC U11 because it bring more lights ..Now U11 is underrated and I got almost mint U11 with all accessories for £190 while got mint condition used pixel without accessories for £247
What I like about pixel 2 Xl as compare to U11 is just stock software and quick updates but I have noticed many issues with Pixel 2XL i.e it get heated during intensive tasks i.e when you turn on hotspot while use the phone , it charge very slow with others fast chargers so if you don't have orginal fast charger then it will take ages to fully charge the battery while my U11 was able to charge phone quickly no matter what others spare fast charger I have used ..memory is also issue limited to 64GB, sound from earpiece during voice/internet calling is poor …Pixel 2 xl has bigger battery but screen on time is same or less than U11....Pixel 2XL give 6-6.30 hour screen on time on 4g while U11 was giving 7.00 to 7.30 hours on 4G..I have got few spare type C headphones of U11 but they don't work on pixel 2 xl
Pixel 2 XL Is great device but its far from perfect but people will keep it for stock experience and camera hype and by the way I was using Mi 8 Gcam port for U11 and developer B-S-G own Mi 8 so you get plenty of camera port from him for this device
I've been using a Pixel 2 XL since February 2018 but it's starting to show its age a bit performance wise. I've replaced the battery back in October as it was getting worn out. Here's to hoping that the S20 Ultra camera will be as great as the camera in my 2 XL.
I own the oneplus 7 pro... Ever since I saw the 90hz I never wanted to go back to anything lower. But I do miss all of the Samsung features. So I'm really waiting for my s20 ultra to come in the mail.

I have the Note 10+, and you get used to the hole punch quickly. With it centered there isn't a lot that normally displays there and even in full screen video it isn't large enough to obscure anything from what I've seen.
Galaxy s8 here that is really showing it's age.
Note 8 since launch day that has 2 cracks in the glass. Been off the charger for only 5hrs and was already down to 53%. So I have a 5000mah battery case just to barely make it through the day. I'm over the camera quality. I'm very excited to say the least. Wife and daughter have the s10+, so I've been itching bad for an upgrade.
Huawei mate 20x . So downgrading on size but excited for 120hz display
P30 Pro
S10+
Also on OnePlus 7 Pro. Hardware is nice and all but parts of software, like for basic stuff like calls and messaging, are simply stupid. Talking about software, OnePlus really can't come close to Samsung.
Note 10+
Xperia XZ2. Switching from sony for my primary device, for the first time ever.
Upgrading from a Note 8 that 2.5 years old. So definitely a huge upgrade for me. But not sure why some people are willing to lose so much money trading in a Note 10 or S10+ for an Ultra. Crazy unless you got money to burn and gotta have the best.

Been with OnePlus since Op6. Getting my Pixel 6 Pro tomorrow. After the reviews and some user comments I don't think I'm going back.
I am currently using a OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren and I am about to switch to the Pixel 6 Pro.
But I am in nor hurry - the 7T Pro is still working great and fast as hell - also the design is just fantastic.
But as I'Ve been using Pixel (and Nexus) phones before, I think I am going to switch back to TeamPixel once again...
I have a OP8 pro,and going to the P6 pro
Still waiting for my device
I have a OnePlus 8 Pro and Samsung Note20 Ultra. The OnePlus 8 Pro running Android 10 was the perfect balance of clean Android with added customizations. OxygenOS 11 feels like a buggy OneUI knockoff and the shift towards ColorOS strays even further from the smooth clean feel. I know one can unlock the bootloader and run an AOSP ROM on OnePlus devices, but the occasional broken features, root incompatible apps, bootloops when upgrading or installing certain modules, having Slot A/Slot B compatibility issues, etc are annoying. I've rooted and ROM'd phones since the original Droid and the hassles now often outweigh the benefits. I actually have enjoyed Samsung's endless customization options, and with using ADB to uninstall bloatware and custom theming, I've got 95% stock Android. That said, I'm looking forward to an even more fluid experience.
With the Pixel 6 Pro, we're getting the clean stock experience and the option to root, if necessary. In many ways, this will feel more like the true upgrade to the OnePlus 8 Pro. On paper, this is the phone tech enthusiasts have been waiting for but there are few quirks that have been mentioned. It's hard to get unbiased opinions from those given free review units. Unless it ships early, I've got a couple weeks before mine arrives so I'll be waiting to hear impressions from the XDA community. Enjoy your new phone and let us know what you think. Cheers
assuming my P6P ever gets here! (Darn Tmo ) I will be finally switching over from the OP6T. This phone has been giving me some issues for the past few months, and the battery has definitely seen better days. Still LOVE this OP6T though. Hopefully the P6P will live up to the hype!

I'm upgrading from 1+ 8 pro to the 6 pro and I'm getting excited.
I thought I was going to love 1+ and the 8 pro but I missed Google.
The 8 pro camera has been a disappointment, so I'm excited to get back to having a top of the line camera.
With the holidays and a vacation coming up, I'm definitely going to get tons of use out of the new camera.
The 8 pro, otherwise, has been good but not great.
This is the first google phone that I'm not getting unlocked directly from google.
I ordered direct from Verizon and should have it in the coming days.
I know the downside of getting a carrier phone, but the deal was too good to pass up through Verizon.
I have had a few Oneplus devices: Oneplus 1, 3T, 6T and 8 Pro. The update policy left more and more to be desired over time and the merger with Oppo and the expected ColorOS were clearly my reason to switch. What can I say? I have not regretted it yet. The Pixel 6 Pro is a solid device with absolute strength in camera features.

So, you feel like the 6 pro is a definite upgrade to the 1+ 8 pro?
I'm moving from OnePlus 8 pro to Pixel 6 pro ...
The OnePlus 8 pro is a very nice phone overall. My device is rooted and I'm running custom Magisk module to remove the OnePlus bloatware. Even with some extra config which allows apps that normally run on Pixel (e.g. Google's recorder).
I'm a great fan of dark (black) mode ... on my OnePlus 8 pro I have:
- black wallpaper
- substratum with Swift Black (turns almost all of the Google apps into full black)
- OnePlus settings "dark mode" -> this turns other apps (e.g. banking app, strava, ...) into a "dark greyish"
I like this very much since now everything on my phone is either black or darg grey.
Actually that's what I'm slightly concerned about on the Pixel 6 (without root) .. a mixture of black/dark and many other colours ...
Anyway ... we'll see ... Pixel 6 pro will arrive Friday morning so then I'll be able to check it out.
See attached shots.

I have had the Pixel 6 Pro since yesterday and cannot give a long-term review accordingly. But yes. My first impressions are absolutely positive. What I absolutely recommend is a more slip-resistant case. The glass back does not tend to grip. And the pure Android 12 is fun, well-designed and the Pixel6 features are useful extensions.
Was always Nexus/Pixel up to the Pixel 4XL, but then I wanted to give OP a try, and went with the 8 Pro. Good phone. I still have it, still like it, but it never quite lived up to the hype. The camera was the biggest disappointment. With the 6 Pro I'm looking forward to straight forward Android, and one of, if not the best, cameras. Now if Google would just hurry up and ship the friggin' thing. My cancel button went away yesterday, so I'm hoping to get a shipping notice today.
OP6T to GP6
Should be a good replacement.
I have had several OP devices in the past. The One was great, 3 and 3T were just as good as One, the 5 was fine till the drama with the last couple updates, 6T was fine and 8T has been a nightmare to support because of their inconsistent Full Global Package Releases on OP's Download site (they moved Global to Google Servers so the only way to get a full package is when OP releases it on their website). I will be moving to the Pixel 6 Pro and hopefully not looking back.
I'm also in the boat of having multiple Oneplus devices in the past. I currently have a Oneplus 9 Pro, but my Pixel 6 Pro is out for delivery today!
I have had a OnePlus since the 3T and will be moving to the Pixel 6 Pro. Currently using a OnePlus 8 running CRDroid. I have had the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 6 in the past and want to get back to Google updates.
I'm coming from the OP6 and I switched because I wanted a better camera and a telephoto lens. So far I'm quite impressed.
Also, the USB port of my OP6 is completely busted and it takes a while to get a connection
What I don't like that much is the fingerprint reader of the Pixel, I have to aim better and I can't really use the sides of my fingers as it doesn't recognize them very well. That was easier with the OP6. Also, I might miss the headphone jack but I'm getting some free Bose headphones with the Pixel so that issue is probably solved soon
The OP6 is holding up really well with LineageOS 18.1 and GCam though, if the USB port was still fine I might have kept it a bit longer.
Ha, me too, OP6 -> P6P.
Is the OnePlus 8 Pro camera really that bad?
I'm coming from a Pixel 3 XL and am happy with my pictures.
Not sure how the OP8P camera compares with the P3XL camera?
Same here. I've had Oneplus since the 5T and am switching from a 7 Pro. I had the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 6 and loved those devices and the crazy development options. I hacked the hell out of those things. I won't rule out going back to Oneplus but I need to see how the Oppo/ColorOS reviews are and let that shake out. I was going to get either a 8 Pro or 9 Pro, or the Asus Rog phone 5 which looked super cool, but decided to get the Pixel 6 Pro. I hope I'm not disappointed and that also there will be decent development eventually.
