had the phone over a year now, never had an issue before.
As soon as you turn on the portable wifi hotspot, i loose the 3g/h symbol from the top of the screen and from that no data conectivity?
and as sopon as you turn the wifi hotspot off, it regains an internet conection
Any ideas, ive not installed any apps recently, as far as i can remember?
Do you get an internet connection when another device connects to your phone's wifi hotspot.
If you are able to connect, then it must be working, as it's the 3G signal that the phone uses to connect the wifi to the internet. It might remove the icon, but if you can connect then it's fine.
nope, can conect my ipad to the DHDs hotspot but no internet.
the same for when i turn the hotspot on, cant brouse anything on the phone as no data conection
still not sorted this, anyone else got a aide or something to sort this?
First post (longtime lurker)
I've got the same problem here although this has only started happening in the last couple of days. The phone's data connection is fine until you enable the wifi hotspot at which point the connection is dropped to the phone, connecting any devices to the phone is fine, they get an IP address and can ping the phone directly, but beyond the phone there's nothing.
Rebooting the phone does not help.
The only app I've installed recently is Google Shopper.
Out of curiosity Fil what ROM are you using? I'm on RCMix3d Runny 3.0 which is based on Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.5. I'm looking at switching to an ICS build pretty soon.
It also looks like we're on the same network although I think that's just coincidence.
yep sounds exactly the same issue,
as for rom, still on t-mobiles original 2.50.110.5 Adroid 2.3.3
was thinking of flashing something custom to see if it solved the problem
I've just flashed IceColdSandwich today at work (it's been a slow day!) and you'll be pleased to know that wireless tethering is working again. I'm on the train home as I type this. It's possibly something in the 2.3 image? I can't really say since we both had different ROMs (mine was a Sensation port). It could just be a bad bit of code in the gingerbread OS that produces this bug on rare occasions.
It may have something to do with the fact that T-Mobile and Orange allow you to roam on eachother's networks. Do you have roaming enabled?
To be honest I'm just stabbing wildly at possible causes here and a flash fixed it anyway. I went ICS but I don't think you'd have to go that extreme but flashing a new ROM overwrites whatever it is that caused this in the first place.
I'm just hoping it's fixed in ICS and won't happen again!
cheers, enabled data roaming, and it now works!
Since the issue, my batterys turned to crap! guessing thats the cause constantly jumping networks, and also data speeds have been very poor lately, was ok when just t-mobile, but orange is poor!
Off to the t-mobile foeums to see if its just me, or others!
This morning I decided to do the lollipop update, everything seemed to go well and im pretty sure my wifi calling was working after I did the update, now later on this afternoon I cant get it to connect its showing a wifi calling symbol on my notification bar with a slash through it and keeps telling me Wifi Calling connection error, anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks!!
Yep, I'm getting the same thing today. It happened the other day and I restarted my phone and it resolved itself. Today a restart hasn't fixed it. No idea why it's not working. Nothing has changed with my phone's software. Doesn't make any sense.

I didn't try WiFi calling since the update last week, and sure enough, I had the same issue. I even went as far as doing packet captures on my network to see what the issue was. I found a few "fixes" on the Sprint forums but none worked. So, I have two SSID's at my house, one is 2.4Ghz and one is 5Ghz (a new access point) I always connect to the 5ghz here at the house (but I don't use wifi calling at my house). So, for the heck of it, I switched my connection to the 2.4Ghz and turned on Wifi calling and BAM! It worked(I had previously used wifi calling on this network when I was testing it out when I first got my phone last year)! I switched back to the 5Ghz, didn't work. What I did to get it working: While I switched back to the 2.4ghz AP, i went into SETTINGS-WIFI CALLING, pressed and held on the 5Ghz network and tapped "remove", then re-added that SSID to wifi calling and now it works.
Please note I also have "Wi-fi Range Alert" and "Update address Notification" selected in Wi-Fi Calling settings (three dots on the upper right hand) and it did ask me to update my address information (and I saved the information). Not sure if this is critical, but I can only say this fixed the issue I had. Also note that I had previously tried:
1) Clearing the cache from APPLICATION MANAGER-ALL-> WFC SETTINGS and WI-FI CALLING
2) Dialing ##72786#
I can't say for sure doing the above two things actually did anything to help.
Earlier I tried reprovisioning my phone and it didn't fix it, also tried other things, so decided to give sprint a phone call a little bit ago and they had me go through the provision process again but they were refreshing it on they're end and it fixed the issue, hope the same works for you!!
Edit: Maybe that's what I didn't do was clear the cache before provision, I did it after wards!

It was fixed, now its doing it again, I bet its this sweet modem that im renting from Comcast, what a joke of a company
Having the same issue sperradically. Literally just before clicking on this thread I went to my phone and it had the symbol with the exclamation mark, pulled it down said "Connection Erro..." tapped on it, made a 'boop' sound then nothing) which is what I had since I got home around 5:30 today... and by the time Ifinished reading these posts, it went back to "WiFi Calling is Ready"
today I wonder if they were doing maintenence or something since a lot of ppl had the problem, (for me I first turned it on day-before-yesterday and it worked great till today though I might just have been lucky) I tried turning it off and on, I tried forcing stop and restarting, re-setting my location, etc and I still got the same error till just now, so... yeah... Sprint WiFi Calling seems flakey... (I have a skype in/out account I've been using for calls since I dont get decent reception and was hoping to replace it with this, but...)
Same here, decided to update this morning and WIFI calling is dead Jim. Tried reprovisioning after a cache clear, no change. Still dead, which sucks because I depend on it due to my in house signal being so poor.
Anyone have any other ideas?
If your desperate you can do what I did to solve my lack-of-reception...
Set up Skype
Add a skype-in number (~$4/month iirc)
Add skype out subscription (~$4/month iirc)
Activate "Google Voice Integration" on your sprint account
Add the skype-in number to google voice
turn off voice to the sprint mobile device (inside google voice)
Now when people call your number it gets routed through google-voice to skype, which will ring on your phone like normal. (just dont plan on getting a Gear because so far I've found NO way to accept/place skype calls using the gear)
Follow up that has fixed my issue with WFC after the 5.01 update on my Note 4.
Contacted Sprint via Chat.
updated Profile and PRL under system update in settings.
Pulled the battery for 30 sec and restarted. Turned on location and updated E911 settings and I'm back up and going.
Update:
For the last two days I've had no issues with wifi calling except when I went to town (where I dont need it anyway) it even reconnected and worked when I got back home. Dont know if it was a fluke or I've just been lucky, but it seems to have stabilized for me (at least for now) will report back it if acts up again.
UPDATE 2:
welp, looks like I jinxed myself. not been able to use wifi calling all day now...
Noticed a pattern though, last time it did this was when it rained, I wonder if wifi calling requires the GPS to be connected so rain kills it. (or it might be a coincidence, just something to think about)

Don't rent modems from the cable company. Usually its a cheap piece of crap. For what they charge you to rent the modem you can buy one on anazin/newegg and it'll pay for itself in less then a year
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA Free mobile app
So I've looked around to see if there was someone else with my issue but no luck. There were somewhat similar posts about the mobile hotspot not working on my LG G3 which usually included the network not showing on other devices when the hotspot was enabled but my issue is a little bit more different. I posted on another thread where a root was provided for 5.0.1 but the tether had worked for a little bit after rooting then stopped working completely including the stock method. Here was my original reply to the thread which didnt really get a good answer. I used Foxfi tethering app for a while then tried using WiFi Tether Router.
Hi after i rooted on 5.0.1 everything seemed to be working fine and I went over to download a tethering app to use my phones hotspot feature but I came across a big problem, the hotspot refuses to turn on. Sometimes the hotspot will turn on for a couple seconds then just shut off and other times the notification icon pops up in the notification bar for less than a second several times before simply shutting off. If I can simplify a bit more, not even the "normal" method for turning on my hotspot will work. I used foxfi which shuts off after what seems like it struggles to turn on in the notification bar and then i use Wifi Tether router which will turn on but the network itself doesnt show anywhere on any other device and if i check the settings app its not actually turned on. Any help? I know the native method should work because i still have some leftover hotspot data on my plan to use up.
Unlocked non rooted phone updated to Nougat running 4.28.401.3 and the last 2-3 weeks my mobile data does not appear to be working most of the time. I get full signal of 4G on EE, have tried changing my APN settings, turning phone/data on/off, used the debug menu to change to LTE/WCDMA only and still have serious issues attempting to connect.
Eventually it starts working but then the connection dies at random intervals.
Wi-Fi is the only thing that appears to be working reliably but that's no good when out and about.
I read about the battery saver bug and have even turned off battery saver and forced apps to not use battery optimization and it doesn't fix the issue. This phone has been flawless for the last 2 years excepting having to replace the battery 2 months ago. Have seriously considered ditching this phone now for a HTC 10 or wait for the upcoming U 'Ocean'.
Has anyone else had this issue?
I have seen another thread with this issue but i dont know if it got fixed.
The best option is to call your carrier as they know what technology they use.

So I just updated my phone to the last (March 5th, 2018) update of Andriod 8.1 and now the wifi hotspot is no longer working. I can enable the hotspot, and devices can connect to the hotspot, but there's no internet access. My phone is unlocked but unrooted and I am absolutely sure that my plan supports tethering (double checked). This seems to be a bug in the new 8.1 update that came out about 5 months ago. Has anyone found a workaround or a fix to this problem?
Thanks for reading, I know a lot of people are having this problem and I'm hoping we can find a solution.
Had same exact issue on the Google Pixel XL (unlocked). Had just recently changed carriers to VZW. Long story short the last thing I tried was to delete the VZW APN, reboot phone, try hotspot once again an poof my hotspot connected devices had internet connection. Only real APN change I noticed was additional "bearers". It still working fine.
