Stock ROM 6.0.1 vs CM13 vs CM14 - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife's phone just came in after repair. Has been upgraded to 6.0.1 official. How can I root this version? Is there VoLTE in this ROM?
Should I stick to official or change to CM13 or CM14? Usage is simple, WhatsApp and Facebook mainly.
Only need root to shift WhatsApp data to SdCard and to use TiB. And need VoLTE if possible.
What is the preferred ROM with good battery life?

Flash M2-803L firmware on M2-A01L?

Hello,
I currently own the M2-A01L, which is stuck at Android 5.1 as you know. Now I compared the specs of the 803L and the A01L and found no difference except the screen size and camera (which I don't need anyway)
So would it be possible to install the stock Android 6.0 ROM of the 803L on the A01L? Has anyone tried so far?

Best rom for k5...........

Can anyone suggest me the best rom for my K5 (a6020a40) that don't have any bug's. Because I don't want to test every rom on my device.
If you want something fully functional, I would suggest a Marshmallow ROM because custom Nougat ROM are still young, perhaps Resurrection Remix. I use personally AospExtended Nougat ROM : it has really few bugs and is fine for an everyday use. It will also depend on your use of your phone : games (you'll need good battery life and perf), Volte, or other specific stuff...

I know that it's buggy on Nougat roms, you can try RR Marshmallow but I don't really know because I do not use this functionality.

Hey, would you recommend me a ROM that is good to go "as is"? I don't want to reflash over and over again. It can be older, just stable and bugless. Ideally good performance but i don't play games.
I understand Marshmallow is better in my case, but which rom?

As I said, search in XDA's threads an old Resurrection Remix build, it might work.
On Nougat you can also try the Pixel one, I'm on it and it's very stable ! But I don't know about VoLTE.

Thanks a lot man!
I tried RR 5.7.4 (Marshmallow) but it made my phone stuck on boot screen. On its thread people report same thing.
Is everything working on Pixel Nougat? (I know you don't know about volte

If you are careful to install all fixes, it seems alright to me.

As I said, it's adjustable, you have 3 modes :
- conservative
- interactive (hotplug if I understood well)
- performance
Perhaps you should have a look at this and its meaning. Why don't you want hotplug ?

Thats not hotplug. Thats cpu governors. I already tried it ,it does not have hotplug. But there are lot of bugs in my a46. Changed to RR.
Here is the solution for you. A complete bugless rom posted by @Shreps.

MIUI 8 , lollipop version, it works really well , everything seems fine except LED notification. I am using this . I have not seen any bug other than LED notification. Also , Resurrection Remix Nougat is good too , but Remix takes so much battery power though they say they save power. I will say go with MIUI 8 ,

How is the battery life in miui lollipop?
Battery life is better than Nougat of RR , Flyme 5.1 , leniage Nougat . But still if you are using 3-4 g network then get a power bank , cause battery size is seriously low for 3-4 g network . MIUI is better in all , I have used all roms for 7-7 days and I See only MIUI doesn't have any bugs

Still on stock android 5!

So my wife’s lg g3 still running stock android 5. She complains on bad battery life. I replaced the battery but I think it is the rom. Before I factory reset it,
Any new faster battery friendly recommend rom?
Thanks
Is the ROM rooted? If so you could run a utility like Better Battery Stats to determine what's draining battery while asleep. Stock ROMs usually have a bunch of stuff running that can suck down the battery. Some unneeded items can probably be turned off or controlled in some way.
If she prefers stock you could probably update to Marshmallow which may or may not be better as far as battery. There are some custom stock ROMs based on MM like Fulmics and Clean ROM. The latter still maintained/supported I believe. It's leaner with less cruft than standard stock.
As far as AOSP/CM/LOS ROMs go there's a lot to choose from. From Lollipop up to current Pie. I wouldn't know what to recommend. I run old stuff but there's no support so Oreo or Pie would be the choice as far as dev support. Maybe Nougat, too.
I'm sure other users will have some good recommendations.
Oh, and don't forget to specify your G3 variant.
LG G3 D851, AOSPA-L ROM, Nebula Rev9.3 Kernel, microG (NoGapps), MultiROM, XDA Legacy
All stock d855
Update
So the phone has no root and I see that the OS and the kernel is taking a lot of battery.
Any suggestions for fast and battery friendly ROM?

Since the phone is not rooted you'll have to tackle that first before looking at any ROMs. Could be wrong but I think the D855 has a locked bootloader. If so it's gotta be unlocked, get TWRP recovery installed, and rooted.
Over the years I've only followed the general and T-Mobile (D851) G3 threads so I'm not sure exactly of what methods to use on your phone.
LG G3 D851, Mahdi v2.9 ROM (4.4.4), microG (NoGApps), MultiROM, XDA Legacy
I can install kingsroot and after that autorec and then twrp
Question is: what best rom do you recommend?
Pie or 15.1?

I have not tried Pie on any device since I multiboot. Due to hardware issues (failed sdcard slot) on my previous G3 I only recently tried Oreo, crDroid 4.6 and Liquid Remix 9.1.3. I am way late to the Oreo and Pie party so I can't recommend anything.
Check the G3 Development subforum and see what folks are saying about the various ROMs.

Thanks but there are so many...
I would probably install lineageos 16 and see.
I will update when done

So... I'm a bit out of loop.

I've heard good things about LineageOS and I would like to try it
1) I'm still in Lollipop and I didn't want to update to Marshmallow because of the bootloader troubles there was some ages ago. Is it better if I go from Lollipop?
2) Any missing features or things not working in the Zenfone 2 version of LineageOS? Is there any implemented functionality for the Zenfone Flip Cover?
3) Is LineageOS less prone to freezes and crashes than normal Lollipop? Cuz the main reason I want to switch to LineageOS is because my phone is now very prone to crashes and freezes (And, no, factory resetting doesn't even help). How's the RAM usage? (I have the 2GB RAM model)
4) Just out of curiosity, but I heard about dual boot patching. When it is recommended?
5) Anything more you guys could recommend me to?
As of now I'm in stock Zenfone Lollipop with root, unlocked bootloader and an Xposed I'm not using right now (it might be version 78)

Hello
1) It's okay if you flash from Lollipop. Most tutorials for LineageOS will tell you if you need to upgrade your bootloader to Marshmallow bootloader.
2) I use Groovy Android (the latest version), which is based on Resurrection Remix based on LineageOS (android 7.1), and everything works well! But no functionality for the ZenFone Flip Cover unfortunately
3) I had freezes on the stock ROM, but now with a custom ROM my phone is stable and fast
4) I didn't try this

Still on 7.1 samfail wanting to update to oreo or pie?

I'm not sure where to post this but I'm still on samfail 7.1 rooted. Question is can I update to oreo or pie and gain root? I seen something about V5 and V6 bootloader can be rooted but not sure if that was for our snapdragon version and if I can just do maybe an update through odin? I'm missing xposed ugh...

It is my understanding that you can root the v5 and v6 booatloaders. However, the process of rooting is limited to Android 7.1. So, in essence of your wanted root and you were in v5 or v6 you would have to install Android 7.1 through the pseudo TWRP available to those of us on the Snapdragon version and not really gain anything new. There is no root for Android 8/9 at this time. Because we cannot unlock the bootloader, we are limited to root on Android 7.1 at this time regardless of your bootloader.

I wouldnt fret too much, as PIE is pretty good, after much thinking about what apps really require root on a daily basis the upgrade was worth it as i get better battery life and not need any processor/kernel mods.
stability is awesome no more daily crashes
PIE theme / launcher is pretty nice, and you can always mod the launcher out or just install a different one and mod that one as if it were rooted.
just a thought if you were panicking like i was about leaving root for stock life, its not as bad as it seems on PIE i still have the feeling im going to need root but havnt had the need for it.
