Hello,
in the past I've reset my CID to get updates ASAP and doesn't depends on my Carriers Fun.
In the Updates the third number makes the difference if updates apply to the flashed Image (i.e. x.xx.401.xxx) I'd understand (?). And of course which CID the phone has. If there is an actual list which CIDs are given? And: In my case I've CID HTC__001 which means WorldWideEnglish, but I didn't receive (Unlocked, S-OFF) the 7.0 updates for the M9.
I've seen that there is a Update for 617 ("Gen Unlock" named on HTCdev) with 7.0. What does 617 means? I didn't found anything about this code. Is it relative new? What it stand for? Is it recommended to set CID tu Super-CID 11111111 and Flash this RUU? What are the consequence if I Flash a 617 RUU?

C.f. Q2 and Q9.
I installed the 4.14.401.7 OTA yesterday evening via the software update function of the stock rom (CID: HTC__102). Has your phone originally been branded by a carrier? If yes, did you only change your CID or did you flash the corresponding RUU, as well. If you forgot to do the latter you're still using a carrier-branded firmware. Look at the line with "OS" at the beginning that is stated in the download mode for checking your current firmware version.
SKU 617 is the US equivalent of the European SKU 401. In case of the M9, SKU 617 is the one which receives new updates first. There shouldn't be too much differences between 401 and 617 firmwares aside from some continent-specific optimisations. Several European users here on xda are currently using a 617 firmware.
The SCID seems to prevent the M9 from receiving/installing OTAs. Therefore, you should better use a CID that corresponds to the SKU of the firmware you're using/want to use.
Nevertheless, there is no "best CID" or "best firmware". Unbranded SKUs receive updates earlier but some carrier-branded firmwares support VoLTE and/or WiFi-Calling. In other words every SKU has its pros and cons.
Thank you very much for all the Information -helps a lot!
The M9 was a T-Mobile Germany brand, so I'd set S-OFF and CID HTC__001 and flashed 1.32.401.17. The phone received updates OTA, now is 3.35.401.32 (seenable at download mode as well), but waiting now three months for Nougat so I thought I've more luck with the 617 (never seen this number before) and started this thread (after efforting Google a much).
May you have a link to a oversight of actual numbers like 401, 617 and 111 and so on?
And last questions: if I'd a look on htcdev.com Downloads, the Downloads are marked with "Type" MR, MR2 and CRC, and Region "Gen Unlock" -do you know what this means? Is "Gen Unlock" the Region which is different by model, so that i.e. the M7 will have the 401 as "Gen Unlock" and receive updates first? And which CID I've to set for a proper installed 617? For an A9 I'd found BS_US001 for unlocked phoned. Will that also fit for an M9?

I don't know which keywords you searched for but the ReadMe thread which is pinned above the normal threads here in the General Section and in the Q&A Section mentions the SKU several times and so do many other threads here on xda...

HTCdev only provides kernel and other source codes. If you don't want to make your own custom rom those files are pretty much useless for you.
As said in my last post SKU 617 is the US equivalent of the European SKU 401. If you buy a US carrier-branded phone then it comes sim-locked. As an alternative you can buy a generic (sim-)unlocked variant directly from HTC. In addition, there's the so called developer edition of the M9 (which is actually just the sim-unlocked variant with a factory unlocked bootlader). Therefore a M7 with SKU 401 is technically not able to be "Gen Unlock" since a phone can't have two SKUs at the same time.

I thought 617 is direct from htc (dev) and 401 is just a sim unlocked version of the gsm?.

The Unlocked Variant is the one with CID BS__US001. The only difference between this variant and the SKU 401 variants are the continent-specific optimisations (e.g. different supported frequencies). Both are just sim-unlocked GSM models. The only "special" characteristics of the dev edition are that its CID is BS__US002 (instead of BS__US001) and that its bootloader is unlocked already when the phone leaves HTC's factory. That's it. If I remember correctly, older HTC phones had a different SKU for the dev edition (1540 or something like that). In addition, the dev edition hasn't always been the variant that receives the updates first. There was a time when the Taiwanese version (SKU 709) was the first variant that received updates due to HTC being a Taiwanese company. But that was before the M9 got launched.

Hi everyone, i just need a clarifying answer: i have a no brand european one x (i'm running 1.29.401.7) and i didn't get the latest ota yet, so i tried to flash it through the stock recovery, but i got "cid error".
Now, my cid is HTC_016, how come i have an european version and (for what i know) a south african cid? Is that possible?
I tried the european RUU but it can't be installed, so, what strange combination do i have??
Edit: i discovered my phone has a Vodafone South Africa CID, why do i have a 401 european software version?
Thanks!
I think your cid is for South Africa, this is why you didn't get the update
here is the list for cid
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16186408&postcount=1
Its for the Sensation but I think its the same for Hox
Yep it is, so i don't understand why is it an european version anyway.. is cid different from branding? My software is the same 401 like the Eu no brand versions.. this phone is a mystery

Hi,
I have been looking for an RUU file for the United Kingdom version of the HTC One M8. I can't find one which is why I refuse to convert my phone into a GPE device just in case I can't go back.
Does anybody know where I can find it?
The firmware version is 1.54.401.10
Thanks in advance.

Typically yes. As a very general rule HTC does not release RUUs to the general public for non-developer devices. That being said, there are occasions when HTC will post them. For example HTC has officially posted current RUUs for AT&T & T-Mobile M8s here in the US. Those RUUs were posted at the request of HTC's client, in this case the two carriers mentioned above.
Software versions containing the 401 SKU (like yours) are WWE ROMs (world wide English) and are not specific to one particular carrier or country and therefore almost never have an accompanying RUU publicly released. Any RUU posted online for that SKU is almost certainly a leak, as are the vast majority of RUUs available. Unfortunately at this time the leaks are few and far in between. There have been an Asian RUU leaked & Verizon and Sprint RUUs leaked as well, but nothing for Europe.

There is potentially a solution for you, however. While I don't personally recommend converting a standard device to GPE, I do accept that people do it. Should you decide you want to and then decide you want to convert back (as I'm sure you will), visit my buddy @Sneakyghost's firmware thread where you will be able to find the 1.54.401 firmware that will help you return back to stock.
Hello.
I read a guide on how to convert anything to a Developer Edition device running Lollipop. I noticed something interesting: y'know that the WWE M8s are all SKU 401? Then why is the Developer Edition 1540? The CID is different too: WWE ones all start with HTC__ (e.g HTC__032) wile the Developer Edition is BS_US002? So what is going on here and why is the Developer Edition M8 different from the WWE one?

They're sold as different phones and need to be identified as such. Different updates come downstream for them. Basically the same reason my Rogers HTC One has yet another CID/MID, as do the T-Mobile, Orange, Telus, O2, etc.

OK, I get why there carriers have different versions. But isn't the Developer Edition pretty much the same as a WWE Unlocked one, just with an unlocked bootloader? And if the bootloader isn't unlocked, why does it even exist?

There are different ROMs. Yeah, they're probably almost identical, but not quite. I doubt I can get more specific than that... maybe they have different APNs installed? Possibly different levels of bloatware? It might just be that the dev edition gets updates first, so customers can pay extra to have a phone that updates a week or two before their WWE/Carrier counterparts.
I'm pretty sure the bootloader comes locked on the dev edition, just like all the other phones, and you have to unlock it at htcdev.com. I might be wrong though.
Are you facing some sort of technical issue, or just curious?

I'm just curious. I have heard that Developer Edition devices with CID BS_US002 ship with an unlocked bootloader. So, there is almost no difference, just HTC trying to sell it?
x.xx.401.x is the European ROM build, not World Wide English (WWE) as it used to be (which also used to be x.xx.405.x when it was WWE but that's going back a few years)
The US Developer Edition is their version of the EU SIM-free handset but has a different software build, CID and MID and has different radio frequencies so not all 4G bands are covered for EU use. It also only covers a few languages as opposed to the EU languages covered in the EU SIM-free version

Ok.. So .401 is the EU unlocked version, . 1540 is US unlocked with CID BS_US002 also having the bootloader unlocked (BS_US001 only has SIM unlock). Am I correct?

Yes, the US DE comes with the bootloader pre-unlocked. The EU model is supplied locked but can be unlocked via HTC Dev

HT doesn't mean you can install developer ROM, rather it shows the factory from which the phone was from. My Sprint Harman Kardon edition has HT serial number too. My first HK edition serial number was HT44RSF04393 and I got a replacement device after 8months with screen replacement with FA serial number HKmodel.
Is your phone a CDMA global phone or an international GSM? If it is a Sprint or Verizon version, there is no option to convert it to a fully international GSM phone.
This link explains the serial number: http://llabtoofer.com/2015/12/14/htc-devices-serial-number-explanation/
I think my phone is an international GSM phone. Any option to check
Phone = S-ON and you are stock NOT on the developers edition :
You can NOT use the dev edition firmware or RUU you can only run the ROM version of MM. You can NOT change CID & MID and fully convert and you can NOT take official OTA updates !
Phone = S-OFF
You can change CID & MID and you can change to developers edition firmware and RUU (fully convert to dev edition) and take future OTA updates !
Sums it up in big lines

Guys i bought this htc one m9 ATT variant it has android 5.1.1 lollipop and its S-off and htc dev unlocked already can you guide me how to reach offical htc m9 nougat rom with twrp recovery thanks
Get back to stock (= stock recovery and an untouched system image) and install HTC's OTAs via the software update function of the phone. All needed information can be found in the ReadMe thread.
recovery is stock if i press the update option it says no update is availble and makes me wait 24 hour before update so OTA are no go for me
Then your MID and or CID probably don't match the ones that belong to AT&T's SKU (502). If you could post the output of fastboot getvar all (without your IMEI) here we might be able to solve that problem. In addition, it might be useful if you could post the MID that is engraved at the bottom of the back-side of your phone.
Aside from that, are you sure that AT&T already distributed android 7 for the M9? HTC's US website only provides an android 6 RUU. If you don't care about the AT&T stuff and on your phone and want to get android 7 now you could convert it to the Dev edition (SKU 617). A conversion guide can be found in the ReadMe thread.

At least here in the United States, the developer edition of the M9 is the only SKU that has received Android 7 Nougat - none of the carrier versions have Nougat.
