Hi,
I finally decided to root my phone and flash Cyanogenmod (1/10/2013 nightly) on my S3 today, and I've run into a couple problems. First, the phone won't connect to 4G lte -- it only connects to 3g. When I try and change the network preferences, the changes don't stay, and changing the APN doesn't make any difference either.
This brings me to my second problem -- Since I couldn't get the phone to connect to lte, I decided to restore my phone to the backup I set up through clockworkmod before I installed Cyanogenmod. However, when I tried to restore, clockworkmod said that it couldn't find any backup files. I checked in the clockworkmod/backup folder, and the backup was there, but it was dated as 2/5/70! Did something go wrong with the backup?
Can anyone help me with these issues?
So I found out the problem; apparently it was somewhat widespread. the 4.2 update created new user profiles which changed the location of the backup files. I ended up using the file manager to move the backup file to sdcard0/ from sdcard0/0/. I was able to restore from the backup, but it seemed to be taking a long time to boot, so I pulled the battery as I thought it was stuck in a bootloop. I tried flashing a the rooted stock firmware from one of the Galaxy S3 root guides (because it was already on my computer) to see if that would make a difference, and the phone eventually was able to boot up. It turned out the backup restore had worked, as my previous apps were on the phone. However, almost none of them work, because the sdcard0/0 directory still exists, and this previous version of Android doesn't recognize the location (at least I think this is the problem).
Anyway, does anyone know if I can just get my phone back to the way it was before I installed the custom recovery and ROM? Is there any way to install firmware that gets rid of this sdcard0/0/ directory so I can restore from backup properly? I'm in way over my head here (I shouldn't have even attempted this in the first place) and would really appreciate some help.

Use the search feature there are many guides and tutorials on this subject already.
GT N7105 with XDA Premium......that is all......
I did that, i found this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546&page=141
But i dont know if it can write my imei back.
Then i found this rj-45 cable but it need a especific box to restore imei.
I did the search, if i wasnt lost i wouldnt ask.
Thanks for the help anyway
I recently went through this similar pain (last weekend). I had defaulted to the default IMEI, then deliberately removed the EFS folder to see if it would regenerate and the value became null.
In short, the way around this problem, as I also had no EFS Backup was to use the Emergency Firmware installation feature in Kies, which utilises the Serial number of your phone to determine the stock ROM required. I essentially restored it to out of the box state, with IMEI intact. I uninstalled Kies (as it has issues with the Toolkit) and using the Toolkit and Odin re-rooted, and backed up the EFS folder. Took multiple copies of this on e-mail, elsewhere on PC and SD Card! Restored ROM with Mods etc that I required, restored EFS Folder using an app called "nitrality" and wiped cache before rebooting.
IMEI and ROM back to what I wanted. Phew!
There are multiple methods documented on these forums, and the more detailed steps to the approach above is on here somewhere. Utilise the search to help yourself some more but I hope this is useful!

My experience
Well, I had this same problem because of the wrong ROM i installed, I am from the netherlands and my modem/kernel is: XDME4, however, when I installed a rom with another kernel/modem/Baseband name I lost my IMEI and network signals, All I had to do is flash a different kernel, and I got my IMEI back
Hope it helpt!
UPDATE: In my case, I lost nothing, but its on your own risk! If you willing to lose everything because you want to fix the problem, you can also try to flash back to official rom, and then flash a custom rom (not the same as before), or make a backup first, using Titanium or ROM Manager kinda apps,
Regards!
Last June I experienced the same problem upgrading the firmware of a brand new phone, completely stock and not rooted.
Before the upgrade, made with KIES from PC, I had this:
AP: N7100XXDMB2
CP: N7100XXDLK7
CSC: N7100ITVDMA1
After the upgrade I had NULL IMEI and this:
AP: N7100XXDME6
CP: Unknown
CSC: N7100ITVDMF1.
Since I had no EFS backup, I tried to use the Emergency Firmware Installation feature in Kies, but it didn't help.
I couldn't yet figure out what this problem depends on. Can anyone explain it to me?
I solved making me replace the phone at the shop. The new one has DMC3, but I'm scared at the thought of updating it again.

No, you should restore an EFS backup made on N7100XXDMB2.
Try this, worked for me
check my other post. I fixed it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57991998&postcount=85
Hey,
My phone somehow got messed up (Unable to mount /efs) and what I had to do is create a new partition and link it. It solved most of my problems (EFS was usable again and I could install roms etc).
What happened though is I can't register to a mobile network. After doing my share research I came to a conclusion that probably my EFS is messed up and it could be the reason why.
Now, I don't have EFS backup from before this problem started, as I was using stock rom and not rooted.
Is it gonna do me any good if I take an EFS backup from someone ELSE and try to restore it on my phone??
If yes, anyone mind doing me the favor of sending me their EFS Backup?
If not, what else can I do?
I have tried the following:
1) Install various modems
2) Install various roms
3) Downgrade to 4.3, install modem and kernel and upgrading again
4) I even took my phone to a shop and they used some equipment to burn my imei
I am currently using:
DN3 rom v5.2
CWM Recovery
Thanks
Edit: Solved by doing efs repair with the equipment thingy
Hi!
So my problem is this: I flashed a custom rom and didn't backup my EFS partition (duh).
Now my IMEI starts with 0049.
I have tried reflashing stock using both Odin and Kies, no help.
Most of the stuff found on the internet relies on having a Qualcomm chip...however Galaxy TAB 3 has Intel...so no help there.
Does anyone have any ideas or recomendations?
Maybe someone can share their EFS backup (where the phone specific data has been flushed out), or something.
Forgot to add, the device is GT-P5220
To cut to the chase…
My G5 (XT1671 32GB) has no IMEI. The one smart(?) thing I did before starting to screw around was make a backup with TWRP - 2 backups actually, one stock, the other AtomicOS. When I try to restore the backup I get an "unable to locate partition by backup name" message for these partitions: efs1, efs2, logo, oem. I gather the efs partitons are the ones that correspond to IMEI and other modem related things.
Is there any way to bring these partitions back? I've reinstalled the stock ROM (a few times now) and that doesn't seem to restore them (however when I try restoring I always get an error message on this line "fastboot flash partition gpt.bin"
Is restoring even going to fix the IMEI? From what I've read those backups are supposed to be an exact clone of the device - sort of like using Macrium to make an image of your PC (btw the backups include everything, whether it was needed or not ~6-7GB in size)
Cheers
Once you've flashed an oreo rom, imei will always be 0 when reverting to stock.
You could try this though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmKg84IXEbo
Going back to stock isn't the issue with the IMEI, it's whether you can turn off auto-update fast enough no to let an OTA update through (at least that's what screwed me)
I did run through the video you linked before hand. Kinda worked. Got 3G back, but when I tried the steps to restore 4G I just lost my IMEI again.
Still doesn't answer why I kept getting the missing partition message in TWRP. I do have full backups so you'd think restoring my efs would be the answer.
Turns out that was the answer… I have no idea what exactly happened but after trying the steps in that video again I decided to restore my AtomicOS backup (prefer it to Pixel Experience) for WIFI usage if nothing else. I got the same missing partitions message and this time somewhere during the restore process TWRP crashed/rebooted (could only boot as far as the bootloader menu). When I booted back into recovery to try and restore again I finally had all the options to restore my efs/logo/etc.. So I restored everything available (minus "system image") and am back to a fully functional AtomicOS.
I'm thinking I could also restore my stock backup now without problem now since I made it way before I ever tried any 64bit/Oreo roms. But ATM I don't want to tempt fate. Besides probably better to wait until Moto/Lenovo officially launches their Oreo update before considering stock again
