There is a cool app for Active display feature: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.knock.knock.plus&hl=en
But according to it the active display feature wouldn't work exactly the way it works on Motorola where only the notification part lights up, because it needs Amoled display while P6 got IPS display. Other than that it works fine and those who want to see notification and messages directly can use this until hopefully Huawei comes with its own. A slight annoying problem though is that the bottom grey navigation bar shows up and covers part of the screen. On the google play, they have showed it working on a Nexus 4 and no navigation bar shows up in such way. So i don't know yet how to get it in full screen without navigation bar on the P6.
See screenshot of how it shows up. Is there a fix to this ? Or should this be given as feedback to Huawei for their upgrade, so that third party apps don't have this problem when running on p6 ?
I have tried a couple of notification apps namely: The above "Knock2", Active Notify, Dynamic Notifications and NotifierPro
My observations:
- The easiest yet efficient layout of all is the one Motorola came out with. This is because in case of the MOTO all work ( read notification without unlocking, go to app, dismiss, turnoff screen or unlock screen) can all be done within a long press+swipe option i.e., one touch. But in case of Knock2 app, you need two distinct touches which makes it slower. The notifierpro comes second, as the message can be read and dismissed as well as accessed in one touch or swipe, but this one got no option to tun off screen or choose to read notification from multiple apps.
- The notifierpro app has two advantages.
1) The app can function both within a lock screen as well as outside a lock screen. While in case of other apps, it just functions for the lock screen. The notifierpro app also got all the options like screen awakening as well other useful customization's and hence makes needless the other notification apps.
2) This app does not sacrifice the Huawei or Android lock screen while in case of others, it takes over the lock screen. Some might actually like this as they dont like the default lock screens, but in case of those wanting customization's, shortcuts, widgets, guest login mode, etc, on lock screen, this would be a problem.
- All these notification apps got the following faults:
In case of detailed reading of the message, only the first message can be read. When the second message reaches, it shows up as "2 new message" etc and no ability to read it.
None of these apps synchronize with the android notification panel. In fact, all these apps just beam the same message that is shown on the android top bar. All you can do is dismiss the message that is beamed, but it still remains on the android notification panel as well as the top bar. And if one was to use the Huawei lock screen ( not the password lock), one can bring down the notification panel from the lock screen and access notifications and apps directly from there. So if the android was to merely allow awakening, it can do all the tasks that these apps do, by the android notification panel itself. The android notification panel can in fact do much more.
And finally the whole idea of such notifications would clash with privacy, in case someone else was to use the phone. So there should be a quick toggle option to Allow/Not allow the detail reading of messages or turn off this notification function.
Now the real deal is in someone creating an app combining the advantage of all, yet keeping it simple Anyone with bright ideas for your Huawei Emotion UI upgrade ?.
My suggestion is to go for notifierpro layout but with added options:
1) Ability to turn off screen after dismissing, in lockscreen mode.
2) Read multiple notifications from single app as well as multiple apps. Reading multiple notifications from a single app can be done by swiping the pop up in a left/right direction that switches to the next or previous messages. While reading notifications on multiple apps can be done by having separate popups open in layers of rows.
3) Synchronize with android notification by one level i.e., synchronized with the top bar. So dismissing a notification should remove it from the top bar, but yet available within the slide down notification panel. So one could dismiss something for now from the pop up and decide to later access notification panel and read them all.
4) Toggle on/off button in notification panel to quick turn on/off the active/pop up notification.
Remember that P6 don't have an Amoled screen, so the layout of the MOTO is not really useful for the P6. So this idea of having first two small icons of the apps shown from which one is to be touched and accessed, isn't really useful because in the IPS display the whole screen is going to be awakened anyway and not just the small icons being awakened in case of amoled screen. So when that is the case, then more of the screen should be taken advantage, so its better to have the detailed message directly pop up on screen as the notifierpro does. This is also minimalist and no need to have the whole lockscreen changed, and this gives advantage of having pop ups even outside the lock screen.
Hey guys, I'm looking for a rather particular lockscreen that I just can't seem to find. I'm wondering if anyone on here could help me find a good one. Features I'm looking for:
-some form of security (PIN or pattern)
-SMS notifications at the LEAST (compatible with third party texting apps like Textra). I would prefer to have all notifications available on my lockscreen, but I can live with just SMS.
-Integrated music controls
-Custom screen timeout time
-Elegant looking
So far the closest I've found was ACDisplay, but there's a couple of things I don't like about it. Firstly, having to click a notification to view it defeats its purpose. I want to be able to glance at my phone to see who texted me without having to touch it. Also, every so often I'll get the "swipe down to exit full-screen mode notification." Snaplock came close, but the music integration is sub-par and there lacks custom screen timeout. Anyone have ideas?
try "My Locker"..............................limit is your imagination only
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.headnum.kream.mylocker&hl=en
I guess you are on kitkat or below, as the G3's Lollipop lockscreen does feature notifications! As well as optional security (pin, knock code, facial recognition) and looks quite minimalistic. So if you're not on Android L yet, you coukd give it a shot otherwise I recommend the same locker as stated in the previous comment:good:
I don't agree. LG's 5.0 lockscreen is terrible. Notifications might display, but you can't open them when you tap on lockscreen like you do on stock android, but you have to unlock the screen, pushdown notification tray and then click notification (wtf LG?). The second killer of LG's 5.0 lockscreen is that when you put swipe to unlock, sometimes it fails to unlock. Even though I swipe, the screen stays locked and you have to swipe again to unlock. That happens to me in 20% of unlocking screen so I removed lockscreen altogether and now found third party lockscreen which isn't much better, but at least it unlocks when I swipe it.

About notifications....
Actually, coming from Nexus 4 with Lollpop, I was dissapointed to see my new LG G3 having trouble with notifications:
Lockscreen always show notifications, BUT swiping left or right doesn't open the corresponding app (ex. dialer for unanswered calls), NEITHER double clicking on the notification does... INSTEAD I have to click one time the notification and after that swipe the lower part of the lockscreen to unlock and go to the corresponding app... It just feels akward to me... Any solutions?
And something else: sometimes when i swipe down the notification bar, i can see the app name and instead of the message i see: hiden content!!! But this is not all the times... Do you believe i have something wrong on the settings?
Thanks in advance...

Unlocking the phone, right after tapping a notification opens that notification for me. Seems a little odd but I've gotten used to it.
Not using any PIN/Knock/Pattern.
Has anyone had any success with lockscreen apps, particularly those which allow customisation of notifications.
I've long been a fan of notific and acdisplay on my nexus 5, but on this phone there are a mix of problems. Some or all of these happen:
music player controls aren't available on the lockscreen (rdio/tunein radio/poweramp/ etc.)
the custom notifications don't appear
the alarm doesn't appear on the lockscreen (gentle alarm)
Or is this just the way LG has customised the OS? It's also mildly infuriating that you can't double-tap to open a notification (you need to either expand it first or swipe separately)
Interesting no one has commented about this since.
I find it mildly annoying after getting accustomed on the z3 and n6, double tapping a notification from the lock screen to open it. The g4 doesn't and it requires yo u to swipe unlock.
Unless there is a setting or another method I'm missing?
Title says it all, I am using the default alarm app (clock). I have toggled alarm on and off, issue remains. It is strange because as a test, I turned off alarm from default app and set alarm with a 3rd party app (timely, which stopped working after pie update) and it shows 1 alarm icon on the right as it was before December update. Anyone else on Dec update using clock as their alarm see same behavior?
Edit: Forgot to mention, I am on stock rooted rom with substratum pitch black theme by Altan krk, this has been my setup for a very long time.
Edit 2: After swiping down status bar and clearing notifications, the alarm icon on the left disappeared!?!? ?
Edit 3: As the time approaches close to the alarm, a upcoming alarm shows up in notifications (see post below), the 2nd alarm icon appears as long as the notification is active, annoying but not as much as a constant 2nd alarm icon.
Upcoming alarm notification.
Perhaps I should open a new post instead, but I have a similar issue and the same steps do not resolve my issue.
Whenever I have any alarm at all turned on, I am getting an icon in the upper right near the network signal. This one does not matter whether it's set to go off in 5 minutes or 6 days, it's always there as long as I have an alarm enabled. I have cleared notifications but it still remains. The only thing I have been able to find to clear it is turning off the alarm/s.
When I have an alarm coming up soon, I get the icon on the left side of the notification bar. This one I am used to and is how I expect things to work, and I'm fine with this icon.
I just want the always-there-icon on the right hand side to be gone! So frustrating! I feel like this has just started showing up in the last 2-3 weeks.
I am on a completely stock Pixel 2XL from Verizon. Anyone else with the same thing?

All of my android phones have always displayed the alarm icon on right, as far as I know that is the correct behavior. What you want (alarm set with no icon at all) was able to be done on Oreo with system UI tuner, that is not available in Pie. Unless you root, which isn't possible since you have a Verizon Pixel, I don't think there's much you can do.
AFAIK,
Left hand side: The alarm notification will pop up when the time gets close to when the alarm is set for.
To hide: Long press on the notification itself, it should give you the option to hide it.
Right hand side: On Pie, I had to install a 3rd party launcher to access the System Tuner UI. This will allow you to chose what system icons appear on the notification bar.
To hide: A quick google search will provide the steps necessary. Basically, you use a 3rd party launcher to create a shortcut to System Tuner UI.
These are the steps I found on reddit:
"1. Download QuickShortCutMaker
2. In the search bar (in the app) type in "Demo Mode"
3. Click on the "System UI" option
4. Click on the "System UI demo mode" option that appears after clicking on "System UI"
5. Click the "Try" button
6. There you go, you can now access the system UI tuner again, without having to install nova launcher"
Hope that helps!

Glad to hear it! Not bad for my first informational post :highfive:
With Android 12, Google brought back the lock screen shortcuts on Pixels, but they're not very useful for me: the device controls and your mobile wallet. You have to unlock your phone anyway before using either, and I have quick settings to use once unlocked, so lockscreen shortcuts don't really do anything for me.
Is there any way to change those shortcuts? Presumably with adb or something. I'd rather have the old camera and assistant shortcuts.
Pixel 6P, not rooted, full stock, all software up to date.
I don't really get it: you can always disable those two shortcuts on the lock screen setting if you don't really like them; and for the two which you are looking for, Google implemented them in gesture with the power button: one long click for Google Assistant and double quick clicks for the camera.
And if you are rooted, @Typhus_ 's Add_On magisk module has a feature to put the camera short cut on the lock screen.
I don't want them disabled, I like having something there. I just want something else.
