OTG usb crashing - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I upgraded to nougat on my HTC M9. Before I was able to connect my DSLR camera with OTG cable and Google photos would come up for me to transfer pictures. Now that I have upgraded to nougat, when I connect my camera,I get a message saying that my camera is using phone as charging source and when I click on the the USB symbol in the top drawer that shows that my camera is connected in order to transfer pictures, Google photos importer comes up, but then crashes. Does phone need to be rooted to transfer images with otg, because I removed root in order to upgrade to nougat?

Developer settings, change usb mode.

Help , need to get OTG and MHL working simultaneously !

Hi guys,
My galaxy nexus screen has been cracked and it does not respond in 75% of the screen.
I bought a MHL to HDMI convertor on amazon and luckily got the phone UI to show up on my TV
Now since the touchscreen won't work , I need to connect a keyboard or mouse via USB OTG and use it for navigation.
Problem is the Galaxy Nexus has only a single microUSB/MHL port combined into one.
I have no idea how to split the output from the phone to connect to a USB OTG cable and MHL to HDMI adapter simultaneously !
Any help will be appreciated,
The phone is not rooted AFAIK , but may be I'm not sure. It was running Android 4.1 JellyBean when I dropped it on the floor
The phone does show up on my Windows PC and I have copied the photos off it. But I still want to copy contacts and SMS messages.
You tried just using something like Android Screencast from the PC (USB debugging is needed)
Also, some MHL adapters have a USB port in them, for power. Have you tried getting a crude micro USB splitter? Like this one? http://www.replacebase.co.uk/micro-usb-female-to-2-x-micro-usb-male-splitter-2392-p.asp#.URk59JGYOBs
Not guaranteed that would work though. Also, a quick google of what you want brings up some others with the same issue, have you tried to see if any of them have succeeded?

Good news
I had a spare galaxy nexus in the office and I gently took the screws of both the devices , and just swapped the displays so that I could quickly turn on usb debugging , backup essential stuff and also turn on bluetooth.
Thanks to some assembly videos on youtube ! will share some pics soon

[Q] Connect DSLR camera to Tab3 8.0

I have a Tab 3 (8.0) with android 4.2.2. Can I connect via OTG cable my Nikon D200 camera to the tablet so I can view a picture shortly after exposure. I tried just making the connection and the tablet does not "see" the camera's CF card as an additional storage or hard drive. By the way, this procedure does work on my computer using Windows Explorer. I read somewhere that android 4.3 update will allow this should it ever become available. Any ideas on how I might be able to accomplish this? Thank you all.

IF you can set your camera to a mode that it looks like a storage device for your computer, then it should work fine as a storage device ONLY with the tablet and OTG. IF it needs a special driver to work on the PC, then then Android will not recognize it.

Thank you, DigitalMD,
I will have to check into that. I know when I first connected the camera to the PC it did load a driver of some description but I don't know what. Until Samsung decides to grace us all with 4.3.2, perhaps I would be better off using my 7" net book instead of the tablet. Too bad but thank you again for your rapid and helpful response.

Are you trying to achieve control or just file transfer? If you are trying to control the camera during shooting or view when in shooting mode you will need an app for Nikon control. When you connect a new device to a windows PC, it will search an online database of drivers and download a new driver if needed. Android does not work like that, for OTG there is a very limited set of devices it can recognize mainly , storage, mouse, keyboard
You might try DSLR.Dashboard or similar apps.

Transfer Files Between Devices with USB-C

So I recently bought the Pixel C, and also have the Nexus 6P. I have a dual USB-C cable that came with my 6P. I tried plugging the phone into the tablet to transfer some files between the two devices without going through a computer. When I plug it in I see the USB options and select file transfer on my 6P however I cannot seem to find anyway to transfer the files. I have ES File Explorer but it doesn't seem to recognize my device. I tried PTP but and a Photo Transfer tool pops up but it won't let me transfer the videos I want.
Basically I want to transfer some 4K videos from my phone to tablet but I cannot through the method I'm trying. I know there's other methods but I want to know if anyone has gotten this to work.
I'm running stock Android 6.0.1 on both my Pixel C and Nexus 6P.
Interesting idea, never thought about doing this. One of the devices most likely needs to have USB Host support.

HTC M9 Connecting to Computer Problem

Hey Guys,
First of all, I am a new member here my name is Salem and its an amazing forum.
Anyway, I have a slight problem with my HTC M9 while connecting it into my laptop. First, when I connect it, the mobile starts charging, and it gives me no option as to change it to Media Transfer or anything... even it gives me "Slow Charging" Error, and my laptop is detecting nothing, as if nothing happened, nor its searching for any drivers...
I went to developer menu and used USB Debugging, and selected USB configuration as MTP, and it didn't work...
I installed HTC Sync to get the drivers, and it is the same.
Can you guys help me? because I wanna root the phone and I tried various Auto Root applications without using the PC and they didn't work. Thank you guys
No signal from the laptop probably means you have a faulty USB cable. Most likely a break in one of the data wires.
Try another good quality usb 2.0 cable.

Same issue. Tried multiple cables
I have the same issue. When I try to plug into any PC a slow charging message pops up but the phone won't give me the option to connect to PC. I have turned on USB Debugging and selected MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). Please help!
I am with TPG. Android 6.0 HTS 7.0 Software number 3.35.617.12
I only bought this phone a week ago and it updated when I turned it on.

Most likely a crap or broken cable. Other cables, other sockets, other pc's are all worth a try.
You should leave the usb port in "charging only". When you successfully connect to a pc the phone will prompt you to allow data transfers to that computer.
I know this because mine does it. I'm sick to death of the effing thing promting me to connect to my xbox one when all i want to do is charge the effing thing... My phone is set to charging only.
I suppose rom choice will affect it too. Mine is rooted stock 6.0.

Still have same problem
I still can't connect my M9 to my PC. Still have slow charge message come up and no option to connect to PC. My work around has been transferring files using WiFi. However, now I need to do a presentation using scrcpy and will probably have to get a new phone. I'm tmepted not to buy HTC again. Pretty frustrating and no fix found on the internet...

Question How to transfer photos, strange problem with type c cable

Hi all
I have set up my phone from my p30 pro to the new black shark 4 pro, when setting up, it would not let me do it via cable (no option for it), only wifi, but also would not copy over photos, saying that they are saved in my google account (that they are)
but i would like to get them onto the phones storage around 5000 photos.
in my p30 of i plug in a type c cable and then into another phone, it come up with a option to transfer files/pictures/charge etc. but when I plug the BS4p in, it does not give me any options at all, all it does is charge.
what am i doing wrong please?
or how can I get my pictures onto the phone storage?
many thanks
Small update, I enabled usb debugging on the black shark, and when I connect it to a pc it now connects to it.
But when I connect the black shark to my old p30 pro as I want to transfer photos over, the p30 comes up with the USB options on the screen, but the black shark does nothing.
What could be wrong please, or what is the fastest way to transfer 5000 photos from one phone to another please?
