If you were to purchase a new Android phone today, and you could not purchase the N4, would you buy a Galaxy Nexus? Or is there another phone that would appeal to you more today, like the Note 2 or S3?

I bought a used galaxy nexus off Craigslist and it's been great so far. I got it used cause I wanted to keep my unlimited plan on Verizon.
I came from an incredible 2 that was running cm 10.. And stock Android on a nexus is easily the best OS experience you can get. Having a bigger screen has been amazing for browsing, watching videos, and most important texting; yet it doesn't feel mammoth like a note does (for me at least).
Everything's been perfect besides battery life - - which I remedied by buying two extra batteries off amazon for $20 and keeping a spare in my wallet.
So in short, I think getting a galaxy nexus now is totally worth it. Great screen, great size, and you're guaranteed software support from Google and the awesome XDA community.

In this order:
1) Wait for N4 and get that.
2) Note 2 (if stock doesn't matter to you)
3) Gnex

Yes I would buy the Galaxy Nexus. Actually, I did just that earlier this evening for this exact same reason.
My T-989 (S2) was stolen on Halloween. I was using a Blackberry 9700 while I waited for the N4 to become available, but with no end in sight to the back-orders I picked up a brand-new Galaxy Nexus on Kijiji for $280.
I don't think you can argue with the cost I paid vs. what you get. The screen is a definite improvement vs. my phone. I'm not happy about the camera but I can deal with it between now and Nexus 4. It was easy to find several ads with asking prices of $300. Used were going for between $200 and $250.
Good luck my friend.
I've had my galaxy nexus since day one and would love it ...only phone I'd get over it is the nexus 4 but since I have Verizon its not an option..
any reasons why you can't get the n4? I mean the n4 is a no brainer. I would definitely get it if I'm shopping for a new phone and if money is not an issue

Hi all,
I am starting a Uni course and I'm tossing up between a Chromebook (HP 11) and a Nexus 7 with a Keyboard case.
I've seen an amazing deal going on (P)lay *cough*dot com*cough*, 32 GB for £180, it's a US model with a UK adapter...
Well for that price (nearly £50/60 cheaper than the HP Chromebook 11 I think I might go for this.
All I'll do on it is edit documents, research, browse etc...
Should be okay to do it on this instead of a PC I think, mostly similar to doing it on a Chromebook, similar Apps available etc...
---
So, my question is, can someone recommend to me a case w/keyboard and do you think the Nexus 7 would be better than a Chromebook?
Cheers!

So right now I have a Nexus 4, and a laptop for work. I was thinking about getting a tablet for media consumption, so I was wondering if anyone can help justify my decision. Is there a point of having a Nexus 7 even with a laptop?
I have been in the same boat, I actually purchased my Nexus 7 last week. I actually owned last year's as well. I find the screen size very accommodating for media consumption (games, Netflix, music). I use my Bluetooth headphones and I am completely wireless. Go for it, go to Slickdeals.net there is a link for a $50 off coupon in store or online and free shipping. I paid less for my 32gb than the usual price of the 16gb, win.

unfortuantely the coupon does not work as i live in canada. Anyways, do you find that the nexus 7 replaces your laptop and phone for media use at home?

Get it! Every time I look at the awesome display I'm so happy I picked one of these up! I used to use my GNote 2 for everything but now it sits collecting dust.
I am also planning to buy one. Since I read here that many people face multi-touch issue and other problems so iss there any batch which has no problems? I use HTC one x and few had hardware WiFi problems. So august batch was perfect as HTC admitted the issue which i bought. Since with my budget this is the best tab I am kind of leaned towards it. But I can't have one which has any problem coz In my country there is no replacement warranty for nexus devices. Is there any way to check the batch number to get a perfect device? I see people mentioning something like mkbh and krt. I guess these are versions. Which will be better? I want to check every possible thing that I can before buying?

i brought my Nexus 7 to take with me instead of a laptop, bcs i was tired of it's weight to be honest, and surfing around, remote control my home pc and all that i did on the laptop i can do from my tablet as i do now, so i am happy even it was a little of an "investment" but it's nice not having to open and have to use wired bcs it's an older laptop i use.
and i even watched anime with my tablet aswell with headphones on and it all just works wonderful and it don't get hot that's the best part
Hey guys.
So, I was thinking about buying an Android tablet, so, as I am a Nexus 5 owner, my first thought was the Nexus 9, but the thing is just too expensive for me, I want something on the cheap side.
So after thinking for a bit I remembered the N7, it's got great hardware, it runs Lollipop and its freaking cheap. But it's from 2013, which I know its not necessarily a bad thing, so I want your opinion as you actually have the tablet.
Is it still worth buying? Amazon is selling it for $197.
I bought my Nexus 7 eleven months ago. I'm very satisfied with it. If you're planning to root it and unlock the bootloader, you'll be able to update with custom ROMs for quite awhile. If you're planning to run it stock unrooted, you may want to consider a newer tablet.
Yes, I think so. There's one 1 other tablet that can compete in terms of price, support, and price: the LG G Pad 8.4 GPE. Good luck finding one though. I didn't buy my Nexus 7 until this summer and I couldn't be happier.
Updates for the rest of this year, at a minimum. My only issue is with deb updates, which get held up due to LTE. Save yourself some more money by buying a refurb unit.
This may sway you... Check your local Staples store - they're having an unpublished clearance on 2013 Nexus 7. $98 for 16GB or $128 for 32GB. Many stores no longer have stock, but of you can find one it's a great deal.

Definitely gonna check this out. Thanks a lot ?
And thank you all for your quick reply.
I just bought mine like 2 weeks ago.... It was a decent price (before the groupon deal)
and it does exactly what I need it to... which is work dual purpose as a home/car tablet.
Honestly I would have rather had a Nexus 10, just because I am a bit of an HTC fanboy,
But in just home use it's still faster than my HTC One M7. actually.... a lot faster.
Has decent dev support, not so much in the way of car roms/mods but still a good overall tablet.
Im still using my 2012 version
I was really excited for the Nexus 9 but I think it'll be too big and the price point is too high. I have repurchased my Nexus 7 a few times due to dropping and theft. The touchscreen on the Nexus 7 2013 is flaky when using a case or 1-handed operation because of a grounding issue with the device. Using the device 2 handed like normal you will rarely see any issues.
Gaming on the other hand is retarded on the Nexus 7 2013.
I try to play Terraria and it is just a frustrating mess. The dual thumbpad touchscreen controls get confused occasionally and causes me to either shoots or run off in the wrong direction. You have to take both thumbs off to reset it temporarily. Just FYI. This is normal across all Nexus 7 units as far as I have known. Some are more noticeable than others but they all have it. There are some flashable fixes that update the touchscreen firmware to have various degrees of sensitivity to help fix this but nothing is ever fixed completely. The fixes have helped make my tablet more enjoyable to use day-to-day but gaming will never be 100%.
I have purchased a Asus MeMoPad 7 for $20 for my son. A little lackluster tablet but plays games better then my Nexus 7.
Personally I was looking at the Nvidia Shield Tablet with a digitizer pen enabled screen. It seems to have issues of its own. The LG G Tabs, as mentioned above, are really solid tablets. I know you can pick up an LG version (with LG software) for pretty cheap. There isn't much development on that tablet though, unfortunately.
The Nexus 7 2013 is a steal at $128 if you can find one. Very solid unit. If my Nexus 7 2013 broke today, I would look else where.
Its worth every Penny..
Go for it.. I just received mine .. and flashed with the Android 5.0.2. factory image
Its magical

I have had my Nexus 7 2013 for well over a year and I wouldn't replace it for anything. I did break last month when I slipped it into my back pocket like an idiot I sat on it and it broke the screen. Although Asus lost my Nexus for almost a month, it was still covered by its warranty..and they repaired it for free.. I Now use a Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, but its no Nexus.. I like the bigger screen, its the Nexus is still better in every way except there is no Micro SD slot.. I need a device I can carry with me that has a Micro SD.. Hence the use for the Galaxy tab.. But if you'd ask me to choose between the 2.. I'd take the Nexus any day..
If the price is right I don't think you can go far wrong. Internally, it's pretty much a Nexus 4 with a Full HD screen and a much better battery. :highfive:
I've had the LG Gad 8.3 for a day and whilst its a nice piece of kit, the aluminium back is slippery and being that touch bigger, you can't get your hand around it like the Nexus 7. There is also a ton of bloat.
Whilst I'm not convinced by Lollipop on my phone, it runs great on the Nexus 7. :victory:
i bought mine from tweakers.nl for 117 € it was a used one without warranty
Hello All,
I have an N7 2012 that I got pretty much at launch and it's been a great tablet for the first half of it's life. I'm no stranger to using custom ROMs and kernels so for awhile it's suited me really well. Over the past year though I haven't been able to find a ROM that can fix its dying battery, slow charging, and overall slowness.
I was thinking of getting a N7 2013 refurb or even a new if people still think it's worth a purchase at this point. I'm pretty hesistant since it's no longer supported by Google. But will development still keep this running well for a few years?
I don't want to have to buy the Nexus 9 because I like the size of the 7" tablet, not to mention Google is charging soooo much for a 9.
Any advice, should I buy an N7 at this point?
Thanks in advance.

They are great tablets for the money. It may not be quite as fast, or have 3GB of RAM, but it's a solid tablet that I still use daily. Also, the Nexus 7 2013 is still officially supported by Google, and is presently running 5.1.1, which is newer than what my HTC One M8 is running (it's still stuck on 5.0.1...)
Yeah, if I needed a small, mid-grade performance tablet the 2013 N7 would be on the list.

Thanks! I must have read incorrectly, I realized the N7 2013 is discontinued on the Play Store, not "unsupported. Thanks for your input!
I recently upgraded from grouper to flo, and it's definitely worth it to me. The 2013 version is definitely a zippier device, everything is so much smoother and faster. Also smaller and lighter with a better display. Gave the old groupers to the kiddos and am very happy i upgraded.
Purchased refurbs on Amazon at a great price and have had zero problems so far (has been almost 6 months since purchase now).
If you can get the N7 2013 for the right price its deffo worth the upgrade.
If you need an SD Card slot, consider the LG V500 and the Tesco Hudl 2.
I bought 100+ N7 2013 for an IT solution. Client was very happy with their decision in using N7 2013. Until one half year later... 3 of them stuck at google boot logo and i had to replace them using new $40 motherboard sold off ebay, 12 of them suffered non responsive touch due to grounding issue plagued this model. And, yes, i had to pay $70/each (exclude labor) to exchange the screen panel as i imported these by myself.
Beyond that... I also bought the LTE version for my personal use. 1 out of 3 was stuck at google boot logo. Had to buy the LTE board for $100 off ebay. Also recommended one to a friend which turned out having a flickering screen i can't fix (and, yes, shelled out another $70 for an LCD).
If you ask me, stay away from Asus. You may wanted to buy another device. I began to think would better off to suggest them Samsung tablet and flash it with vanilla custom ROM.
I ended pulling the trigger and getting a N7 Flo off Amazon "Used-Very Good". The box had cosmetic damage and the charger wasn't a stock charger is was a 1A charger). I contacted Amazon about the issue and they refunded me the $39.99 for the official charger, so essentially I have a "Like New" N7 Flo for under $100. It's amazing compared to my old N7 Grouper already.
Thanks again for everyone's advice!
