Need a little help. I have PIA VPN installed on my Gen 1 Firestick via the apk but how do I get it installed within the Kodi app? My question is that if the VPN is running on the Firestick, does it also run on every app that is opened within the Firestick? If so, how do I test if it is working in Kodi?

VPNs do not work on Firestick 1.
i don't think you need to install it inside any other specific app. as long as it's running on the firestick (or fire tv) it's doing its job for anything else that runs on the device.
That is what I was wondering. Is there anyway to test it?
you could fire up the PIA app and then goto the PIA website via a browser. it'll tell you at the top if it's working or not.

Hey
Is anybody of you able to use the MagineTV App on your Fire TV?
I was able to install the .apk with adbFire and lunching it also works without any problem.
But then its necessary to enter your email and password to enter MagineTV.
This is were I fail , because selecting the windows were the password/email has to be entered can't be done with the remote control.

I haven't tried it yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't work? Although some apps are more Fire friendly than others, there's usually a way around everything However, the solution may not always be as easy or convenient as we'd prefer. And in this case, you may have to go the "old-fashioned" way by hooking up a keyboard in order to be able to enter the info that is required, or if you insist on remaining wireless you can now get a Smart Keyboard for a pretty fair price!
Over the last week I've been trying to get OpenVPN Installer and then OpenVPN Settings to work on my rooted Fire TV 2 (on 5.0.5_r4). I've described the steps here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/vpn-rooted-fire-tv-t3370488
Even though the VPN turns on, it appears the Fire TV 2 internet traffic is still routed through the original pathway and the IP address remains unchanged, which I've been unable to fix. Has anyone managed to get OpenVPN Settings to work on a rooted Fire TV?
However, I recently noticed OpenVPN for Android (https://plus.google.com/communities/114121831091105660092) and gave this a try on my Fire TV 2 and it worked straight out of the box (giving an updated IP address when checked). I presumed that it only worked because my Fire TV 2 was rooted with the necessary VPN binaries installed (by OpenVPN Installer). However, the author of OpenVPN for Android communicated to me that root is not needed and, as a test, I've just tried it on my unrooted Fire TV 1 (on 5.0.5) and it also works!
Will be interesting to see if others have had similar success and can confirm findings.
I gave this a go ( OpenVPN for Android ) on my rooted firetv 1,
and sure enough it works
Does anyone know if this gives accesss to different content with a German Prime membership, e.g. when routed to an US VPN-Endpoint? Or does it just stop working?
What do you need to do to install this on an unrooted Fire Stick? My only guys is to install it on my phone, grab the apk and adb it to my stick. Any better suggestion?

Just use the app in the op
dean4k, like Petesky says, just use 'OpenVPN for Android' found in the link in the first post - it works great and the latest version is much easier to use with just the Fire TV remote (no need of a mouse pointer) once setup!
Bramtom1 you may have already seen this useful page (on AFTVnews) but I found it a great help for learning how to connect/load stuff onto Fire TV:

Add Proxy only for Prime
Guys I live in Argentina and can change the DNS setting on my stick to receive USA prime but doing so breaks my Netflix, also have Kodi installed and that works fine with US Dns or local. Is there any way to add some code to only Proxy prime through the US DNS server.
I tried installing DNS changer app but it does not change the Firestick settings although it says changed, my stick is also rooted.
Thanks not sure what thread to post on.

What VPN Service works?
For those of you that got this working, what VPN service are you using? I am trying with Private Internet Access, and the app shows connected, but when I check, I see my original IP. Thanks.
Hi Mav21,
I'm using IronSocket VPN, which works fine.

Not using it just now but I was using PIA as well and it does show original ip but if you use another app to check it will show that your ip has changed
Thanks, when I check on the PIA website, it returns my original IP address and says "not protected". Any other settings that I need to look at?

Ever figure this out with PIA? I only see my original IP despite installing "OpenVPN for Android" and it connecting. I also have the OpenVPN binary installed manually (I'm rooted).
People need to be very wary about this. If the PIA site sees your source IP address, you are NOT protected.
I'm seeing the same issue as others, both the PIA site and any other site the returns IP addresses shows the source IP in both Firefox and Chrome.
OpenVPN appears to connect, but traffic is not being routed through it.
May it be possibile that this only works with the fire tv and not with the fire tv stick?
Has anyone of you managed to use OpenVPN on a non-rooted fire tv stick?
I tried and my stick is connected to my VPN, but the traffic is unfortunately not routed through the tunnel
I can't get it to work. Using Iron Socket and i get the error "tls-auth enabled, but no valid --auth alogorith specified". Not sure why. Fire TV 1 running 5.2.1
No luck for me either.
I have a Firestick. I sideloaded the latest OpenVPN for Android.
Imported the profiles from EZ Explorer.
After entering password/user, it attempts connecting and I See the following errors:
Code:
Failed to open the tun interface
Error: Cannot find de.blinkt.openvpn.core.OpenVPNService
ERROR: Cannot open TUN
Exiting due to fatal error
Process exited with exit value 1
MGMT: Got unrecognized command>FATAL:ERROR: Cannot Open Tun
Not entirely sure what this means. Anyone?
Hello,
I have been trying to get PIA VPN service running on amazon fire stick version 5.2.1. I can connect to the PIA vpn but my IP does not change.
Web search indicated I needed root which I have done via ADBLINK install of Kingoroot but still does not work. Same results; I can connect to the PIA vpn but my IP does not change.
I have tried with openvpn 0.6.55 apk and PIA 1.2.2 apk.
Do I need to grant root permission to the openvpn app? If so how (noob here)? And/or do I need some helper apk/app?
Any help is appreciated.

i've never been able to, but if you can enable location services you theoretically should be able to. There's a walkthru on doing that somewhere in the firetv forums.
okay i will have to look for that. thats the problem getting a location or a gps to work without google play store

hi I have found out how to make the local channels work it took some time but i figured it out
first you need to install
google play services
google account manager
googleplaystore
google play
settings apk
fake gps
first you must install all google applications
second sign into google play (it will give you an error, thats ok:good
install settings apk
then your gonna use adb shell to enable mock locations (commands for adb shell and how to enable mock locations can be found on xda forum)
after that install fakegps, run the app choose location and voila open directv and click on your local channels all of them will work

I have Fire Stick, Roku, and Apple TV, Apple TV works when you set it up it asks if it can use your location, this is for any DirectV Now app on a TV. Directv now has to match your billing address with your IP address, according to DirectV Now. I have the same problem until I figured it out. I have Windstream which the IP address doesn't match billing address.

I realize it's been a while, but can you give more information on the ADB shell command? I've got the DIRECTV tablet app running just fine, I've installed those apps successfully and I'm connected by ADB. But I can't find a command that turns on mock location. Thanks so much!

The DirecTV app is available on Amazon Firestick and can be downloaded from the Amazon App store. You do not need to sideload it from any of the third-party app stores or APKs.
The steps involved in installing the DirecTV app for Firestick would include the following steps –
Step -1: On your Amazon Firestick, search for the service on your App store.
Step -2: Type in DirecTV Now in the search bar and search for the app.
Step -3: When you find the DirecTV suggestion, just click on the option to begin installing it.
Step -4: Click on the option Get to begin the installation process.
You will need to install the app using the regular option. I have found this steps from here to get local channels on fire tv. You can either sign up if you have no account registered on the DirecTV service or log in to your account if you already have one.
How can I get OpenVPN working with Kodi & Do I need to root my Amazon Fire TV Stick?
Hi,
Currently I've done a really weird hacky way of getting my VPN working...
1. Installed NordVPN via Apps2Fire
2. Installed KodiOnBoot via Apps2Fire
3. Setup NordVPN to Boot on Launch
4. Setup KodiOnBoot to Launch Kodi after 120 Seconds of Screen Timeout (Alternatively I can just press Home & Load Kodi manually)
NordVPN was a nussiance to get it to where I've managed to get it to so far because you can't scroll down in the settings correctly. Likewise the same problem with OpenVPN's application, I can't scroll down so I can't even get that app to boot...
However in Kodi there is an OpenVPN app you can download via https://brianhornsby.com/kodi_addons/openvpn however when trying to setup that it just tells me to Check the Log because it failed to connect to the .opvn file yet I can't find the log and I have a feeling its to do with root/su.
Any ideas what I should do to get around this?
Thanks
