Im new to this so i dont know how to delete my previous thread, but im creating a new one. So, i noticed that my files got moved to the emulated folder, i can access them if i use a file browser with root access, but i cant see them in the regular file manager, gallery, music app, etc. What do i have to do? They are there, but i cant have access to them without root.

Hello people,
I have a HTC Desire, a friend of mine is interesting in getting one for himself, he has aksed me a question but I don't know the answer so I thought I would ask here.
Basically what we want to know is it possible to hide files on the HTC Desire. Can this be done with or without using an app, if it can be done without an app howso. If I need an app, which one. Not sure if he wants to lock/hide or files to show under a fake name, can this be done.
His concern is that becuase of the way Android is all files would show up if someone was to look up the stuff on the phone/SD card.
Not sure if this makes sense
Thanks in advance for any help.
download filebro lite
Thanks for the prompt reply. Does this hide files. I think my friend wants to be able to hide any file. Also prevent certain media files from showing open when you open the image viewer/music player/video player etc
What I do to keep Gallery from listing my pornstars photos from it is:
With file manager (any, there are a bunch in the market) I created a hidden directory (any file/folder starting with period is hidden, so I named the folder .porn) and the gallery cannot see it. If I want to see the content of that dir, I start the file manager and browse in that directory.

Hi All,
I've taken a look around and can't seem to find anything relating to this so I'm gona ask.
I've just got my DHD and love it but I have never used Android before so it's taking some getting used to. ( I'll get there I'm sure )
My question is I have an MP3 file I'd like to use for my notifications ( comes from my HTC Touch HD ) but for the life of me I can't seem to put it in the media folder that the DHD uses. I can find it using the ES file search thing but it won't let me copy in to it?
Do I need to get admin rights? Rooting or whatever its called?
Sorry if it's a daft question. but its annoying the bejesus outa me.
Thanks in advance
JD
I think you have got to place the mp3 in a folder on the root of your sdcard called "notifications".
Hope that works!
Hi CD993,
Thanks for the reply but..
I can't find any folders on the sdcard other than the ones i've made from having it in my Touch HD.
I can however find the Notifications folder in audio on the phones memory. This has all the MP3's that the phone uses. But still I can't paste to it. Just says copy failed.
I'm just wondering if I need to "jailbreak it" or root....something something to be able to add to the root folders.
put your phone in settings, connect to pc,select disc drive now your computer willl see your sdcard as a drive look at your my computer and either go into my mobile at the bottom or go into the sdcard on my computer it comes up as Idrive as copy your mp3 file into your mobile here disconnect your mobile and search for it in your mp3 files through your media music app.you may have to reboot your mobile once disconnected from the computer so the file gets noticed.
if this is not what your looking for then sorry but I dunno.
Hi Magpie,
Thanks but no.
I already have the MP3 on the sdcard but I can't seem to copy it to the system/media/audio/notifications. This is where the phone reads the sounds that it plays when you receive email/txt etc.
Maybe I should just flash a new ROM although this appears harder than it is with the touch HD on winmo lol
Thanks for the reply anyways
JD
Edit:
I've since managed to Root the phone "give me root admin rights" but still am unable to copy files to the phones root folders.
Im sure you just put the mp3's in a folder on your sdcard called notifications e.g. sdcard/notifications/ringtone.mp3

Hi CD993,
Maybe there is a problem with my sdcard? I don't have such a folder on it. I have a music folder data folders google folders I've looked through them all and can't find a notifications folder on the sdcard?
Should the DHD be using the sdcard as its main source for audio etc?
SdCard/Sounds/Notifications
SdCard/Sounds/Alarms
SdCard/Sounds/Ringtones
SdCard/Sounds/UI
Make the folders as you need them. Then you will be able to find them in the Sounds tab in the menu.

If you have root access you should be able to write them to the main memory using a program like Root Explorer. You can find system sounds in /System/Media/Audio.

Flashing Android ROMs is so much easier than WM. It's getting the root that is the *****. It took me ages to work out how to install the ADB drivers when I first got my Desire.
Flashing ROM's just replaces two folders, so if you are updating from one AOSP ROM to another, maybe even Sense I don't know I don't use it, generally speaking you don't need to wipe the phone and you keep all of your apps.

Hi Kal,
Yes as far as I'm aware I have root perms. i used VISIOnary? and followed a thread on here When I open cmd promt or whatever its called on linux and type su it gives me the # which apparantly means i have rooted it?
Yet I was unable to copy to that folder on the phones main memory.
That ADB driver I'm afraid i've not even looked into it yet all I know is my win 7 failed to install it when I plugged the phone in for the first time.
I've gotten as far as using titanium back up for apps etc. Just need to do some more research I guess I'm new to android
anyway thanks for all your help people. i'm sure i'll have more questions in the appropriate threads as time goes by. Thanks all

Personal Audio Files for Yahoo! Mail
Everything you all have said works, if I put something in mnt/sdcard/media/audio/notifications I am able to then see the files under the Sounds Setting.
My issue is needing Yahoo Mail to see the notification. For that I need to copy the files to /system/media/audio/notification and for that I am not able to change the permissions. I have tried ES File Explorer and I am not even able to move up from sdcard. I have also tried total commander and I get "Error writing to target file! /system/media/audio/notifications/yahoo.mp3
Can someone please help. I really like the Yahoo! application.
Setting Yahoo Notification
Root explorer will allow you to change the directory from Read Only to Read Write. It can be purchased from Play (Market) or acquired by other means as I did.
Copy the file to /system/media/audio/notification using root explorer.
Reboot.
Tada...
Somehow, the framework-res.apk; browser.apk; HTCDialer.apk; HTCclockwidget.apk were all moved to app backup in the sdcard in the storage optimizer file.
I have tried to reinstall, and it states it is a system application and asks if I still want to replace. I hit ok then install. It moves forward and the done, but it states that application not installed.
This has the WiFi access on it, and I am most concerned about not being able to use the WiFi.
What can I do, EVO 2.2.
You should be able to do it with adb shell.
thanks, I was going tl try, I am just new, as you can probably tell. I am trying to set up.

I'm not sure I understand how that happened, and I'm slightly confused by it. Are you sure those files were actually moved, and not copied to the sd card? I didn't think the phone would even be able to run without the framework-res.apk.
Anyways, to answer your question, you can use Root Explorer (3 or 4 bucks in the market, and well worth it) or ES File Explorer (free) to make changes in the system folder. I use root explorer to add/remove system applications all the time. You just need to click a button within the root explorer app to mount the system read write. Once you do that, you can add, delete, edit, etc anything in the system folder. just navigate to /system/app. Good luck.
Edit: and of course, as the other poster suggested, you would also be able to do it with ADB, if you're familiar with it.
i think they were copied, yes, but they are not in use, and I need to get them back to the proper place for use. Thanks, I will try root explorer.
hi,
i recently got the xperia play for christmas and i want to play my psone games on it. so i got the PSXperia tool but requires to get a .apk and .zpak files, which are in the internal memory, which i cannot access through windows explorer. is there a tool that allows me to access this? its an unrooted phone, on 2.3.4
thank you
AFAIK none of the instructions @ https://github.com/yifanlu/PSXperia/wiki require you to access the internal memory.
Urrr...not on the website...on the actual application though
"You need to extract some files from the Crash bandicoot apk that came with your Xperia Play
The APK is either com.sony.playstationblahblahblah.apk or com.sony.playstation.blahblahblah.apk in the system/app folder of your android phone's INTERNAL MEMORY"
So I can get the ZPAK from the SD card, however I cannot get the APK. Help?
You should be able to use adb pull to get it
(Do a temp root with zergRush if you have to).
Sorry Im a noob could you explain what those are and how you do it?

no.
this is what wrong with the Internet. people expect to be told everything.

Download Astro File Manager from the Android Market. Launch the app and find the directory where the APK file is located, which is in "/system/app".
Press down on the APK file and tap on "copy". Then go back to your SD card and paste it there.
^^ This was the fastest way I was able to get that APK file.
Hi,
I am still a beginner with all this rooting stuff but i'm having a problem updating from cm 10 to cm 10.1, I try the OTA update and I clear the data catch etc in cwm then flash it and then Gapps and when I get back to my phone it can't 'find' my folders in sdcard0 it basically just disappears as it moves it from /storage/sdcard0 to something like /mnt/legacy and I was wondering if I am doing something wrong or?
sorry if I didn't make sense if you need any more info just ask... as I said i'm still a beginner
Thank you very much for any help

Ok, this is from the ProBam thread, posted by Deliberate:
Cm based ROMs will target the sdcard storage to use root/0/directory.
Normally all files besides the root/0/ directory will not be shown in a file explorer.
To solve this, you need a file browser that has root capability, like root explorer.
Then, go to mnt/shell/emulated, and all your files should be there.
Now, you can move all the files into mnt/shell/emulated/0/ folder and should solve the issue.
