Hey guys I just released today that my phone had the OTA update and i'm on Three in UK.
Anyhow I'm really wondering how I can update it with my rooted phone i'm pretty sure it will cause problems. What is the best way to update to the latest software with a rooted phone?
Do I have to unroot it?
Do I have to relock bootloader?
I'd like some clarification!!
Thanks a lot.
i just done the same on my three Uk version, i had to uninstall cwm install original recovery lock the boot back and download update and install,
priesl forpage
I swear you only had to relock the bootloader.
well i guess i done all this for nothing as i just come of the phone to three, i got the black version of htc one x, i found screen flickering so they going to send me the new one , well i thought ill go for the white one lets hope the new phone is ok

This is what I'm wondering. I'm running stock rom (rooted) and from what I can gather you have to unroot and reflash HTC stock recovery. I'm waiting for confirmation before I go ahead though

Well exactly what you just said, I don't see the point of doing a recovery though (if you're on a stock rom) anyway i'd like a explanation from a guy that knows a lot about it, would be appreciated.

I asked in another thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25508923
Looks like you havn't got to relock bootloader, just unroot, flash stock recovery (if on a custom recovery) then update
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I may be wrong but I though it still updated if on stock, you just lose root so you need to root it again afterwards. That's from past experience with Samsung phones, but thought it'd might be similar on other phones which is why I added my input.
Ota updates check system files before it reports if an update is available (does it not?), if it reports an update it must be fine IMO.

Thanks man =) will do right now and report if successful, for other people.
You'll have to delete clockwork recovery mod before updating.. not sure how but i'll find out. I'm still a noob since I switched to android a few weeks ago.

Delete supersu app and Su binaries. Go into system/bin or xbin and look for a file called Su, then delete it. You could try to update while rooted but people have reported errors and stuff messing up

What do you guy use on your m9? some apps works, but say for like gravity box, most of the options doesn't work. The recent screen options doesn't work at all since we have sense... the only tweaks I have on mine so far is the background youtube playback :l
Since yesterday i use xtended settings.
I use greenify. Power nap and YouTube adaway no problems
Snapprefs! A very handy tool for Snapchat. Works flawlessly.

I can't seem to get xposed to even install on my stock rooted t-mobile m9 I flashed the one build for arm64 sdk21 but it keeps refusing to boot past the HTC one screen. Any ideas?
YouTube adaway, fix memory leak , and ogyoutube fix to sign into modded YouTube. I've tried to get xprivacy to work but it hasn't for me yet., that is the one thing I'd like to see fixed for our software.

I'm driving right now and I can't remember where I got it, but there is something called, Remove_hrdump.zip you have to flash if on stock rooted rom because the s off process created a hrdump file that causes issues I believe with xposed.

Found the file and followed the flashing instructions, still sticks at boot when attempt flashing xposed files. Using twrp 2.8.6.4 if it matters, tried with manual mount of /system and without it, same result.

How long did you wait after installing xposed? The initial boot after flashing xposed can take a VERY long time (like 10+ minutes).

I waited over 10 minutes each time I've attempted it. Gonna try a fresh download from my PC and see if that helps.
Edit: nope, no change. Guess I'm not meant to have both s-off and xposed.

Oh OK. Yeah, I'm on a stock odexed rom, as there are not, to my knowledge, any deodexed roms for the T-Mobile m9, and I can't go without Wi-Fi calling.
I can not flash the file recovery from arm.
Failed error binary.

i'm s-on, didn't know there was issues with s-off folks..
also since your s-off.. why don't you just got back to s-on and play with xposed. assuming you used sunshine.. you can go back to s-off again.
I'm doing a backup now, will attempt that.
Apparently sunshine doesn't have the option to do the process in reverse, and I cant seem to find info on the process for s-on on an m9. Yay :/

Try uninstalling xposed installer first to see if the zip can boot up without the modules. Sometimes if the module is not compatible then you'll get the infinite booting screen. Learned that the hard way. Spent hours.... Lol

Im a complete rooting noob and i messed up good here. I did a lot of stuff, but now im here with the CandySiX rom/ruu (whats the difference?). I thought all was good, except i cant play any media at all. None of my MP3s will play, i can't play any videos, and sometimes they do play, but there is never any sound. Even alarms dont have sound. I am not even able to play youtube videos. I also cannot make or recieve calls, but texts and data work. Please help...
Hello Rajansidhu,
To answer your first question: RUU stands for 'ROM Update Utility' - it is the official package provided by HTC to return your phone to a stock state. ROM stands for 'Read Only Memory', and refers to any firmware package. ROMS could be put into three categories:
#1) official from the manufacturer (HTC's RUUs)
#2) customized firmware that uses the official ROM as it's starting point (Android Revolution HD or ViperOne, for example)
#3) built from the Android source code provided by Google (CyanogenMod, for example)
Regarding sound in CandyROM, nothing like that has been mentioned recently in the CandySiX thread. I wonder if the steps you took to install the ROM might have introduced the error - "I did a lot of stuff" leaves quite a bit to the imagination!
With the information you've given so far, I'd guess that your best bet is to do a clean install, either an RUU (which would reset your phone to stock, giving you a fresh start) or picking a ROM & installing it via your custom recovery (you've installed TWRP, I assume) with a full wipe (dalvik cache, cache, system, factory data reset) after install.
Of course, before you take action, it might be helpful to list what steps you took to get here. We might be able to help you avoid the hassle above.... or determine for sure that it's necessary.
Ive already clean installed and wiped before I installed this CandySix. I will try to get back to stock as you say if you can please give me a step by step tutorial? Also, the sound isnt a problem only with CandySix, it also happened with Cyanogen Mod 13. Also, would you link me the RUU, preferably in .zip form?
That's because you're on the latest firmware, right? Cm13 and candysix have no sound on the latest firmware.

oh, i wasnt aware of that. Can you tell me some rom that has Gapps and sound working as well? Or can i get an older version of CandySix or CM
Are you on the latest though? Just wondering because that's what causes that. I think you'd have to downgrade firmware for any marshmallow roms, not sure about cm12.1 or candy 5.1. Are you s-off?

Or get S-OFF, and simply take out the "firmware.zip" file out of the RUU, there is no reason for wiping or going back to stock, then via sd card you can flash the firmware in Download/Fastboot mode, or you can use a Computer to do it.
I highly suggest you get S-OFF now before HTC possibly patches it like they have many many times before, if so it could be a while before an update is available to make Sunshine work again, they are the best at getting around to it though, but HTC has blocked them before on older devices.
Besides S-ON is horrible and causes issues, like for example without a custom kernel or a kernel patch in some cases you can't install Viper4android driver, or Adaway won't work, issues like that, S-ON blocks certain writes to succeed on /System, basically S-ON=Half A** Root.
I must be doing something wrong. I am now S-OFF via Sunshine. Downloaded the firmware package and flashed. Seemed to work, I had 1.53 in bootloader. Created a bit of havoc and had to reinstall ViperRom a few times to get the phone working again. Now showing 1.30 in About tab again.
Anyone?
Because there rom is based on 1.30

You're confusing the ROM build with your firmware. The system about info will not tell you your firmware. It shows 1.30.* because that's the ROM build.
Boot into downloader mode and it'll show your firmware as being 1.53.617.5
You will not get best performance out of a Euro build, it's missing the carrier provision information for US carriers.

I am on US Unlocked and 1.53.617.5 firmware using Viper 10 1.2 on T-Mobile. It works great! I notice nothing different about my signal or interface with my carrier. I have VoLTE and WiFi Calling working and working well. Also, I have read that people have working VoLTE for AT&T in the Viper10 thread.
You could also use BadBoyz which is based on the US Unlocked 1.53.617.5.

You should flash back to stock and update. Cannot install OTA over a rooted rom I believe.
However, I came from Paranoid Android and followed the advice here, and it worked perfectly. Was able to keep root and TWRP.

I was rooted I use this post, and the is a link in that thread to the actual zip your will need, and also you must have the updated TWRP as well. All the information is in that thread. but that is literally it.
Download update zip
Download Flashfire
download new TWRP
Back up you crap ( will not wipe SD card unless you tell it to )
Run FlashFire, set setting correctly
run it, you will already be rooted when done
set dev mode
re-flash new TWRP
PROFIT
Did you get the option "Restore boot and recovery images" when setting Flash OTA zip? I just got Auto mount and Mount /system read/write.

If you have Xposed just get Android N-ify and it's just like having 7.0
Anyone updated from DP5 / systemless root / TWRP?
And flashed zip for adaway to work.
What are the steps to update with ota zip?
Yes and everything is ok. Follow the steps carm01 suggests some post above. Its easy and at least for me everything worked. After fisrt boot you can go to TWRP and flash everything else you need.
