Advanced Wipe in Recovery provide a list of partitions (e.g. Dalvik, System, Data, Internal Storage, etc.) to wipe.
Can any expert let us know what is the different between wipe out partition Data vs Internal Storage??
Which folders will be gone if wipe out Data partition compare Internal Storage??
Thanks in advanced.
wiping out data will wipe all the apps and their data which is installed in your tom where as wiping Internal storage will wipe all photos, music etc that is saved in your phone's memory

I have a question, does the internal storage (the "sd-card") also get wiped if you do a full wipe (data/cache/factory reset)?
Lets say I have JellyBelly installed and do a backup of it do I have to copy it to my computer if I install another ROM if I don't want to lose it?
Hope you understand

Thanks! That was what I wanted to know
I am using like 4 gigs on my main sd. It says I only have a gig left. I doubt my system is hitting 5 or 6 gigs. I'm using the Avatar rom. I attached a picture of my storage overview. I also formatted cache. Any ideas?

You are most like affected by the emulated storage bug. How to fix:
Have a card reader, and MicroSD to SD adapter
Back up all of you data to your computer
Update to the latest CWM or TWRP
Wipe Data \ Factory Reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Format /system
Copy a ROM and gapps to the external SD with the card reader
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Profit!
Lemme get other people's opinions before I get drastic.
Get disk usage from the market. Run that and see what it shows you.

Agreed. OP, formatting /system and /data will resolve this issue.
Thanks, I'll give it a try and report back. Can I use the same rom?
Yes sir. Wipe data, wipe cache. Wipe dalvik. Format /system. Format /data. Flash rom. Flash gapps. Reboot. All this is done, of course, assuming you have the rom, gapps and perhaps a band road all on a micro sd card. Cheers

I wiped the data, /system, cleared the cache/dalvik and such. Flashed both and rebooted. It shows 12 gigs total space, 2.13 available. All my files are still there. Are they supposed to be?
No. There's wipe data and format /data in cwm. Did you do both? You need to.
Or are you twrp?

Fixed! This time, I formated /data, did a user data format, and wiped my /sdcard. It's all good now, thanks!

Well the thing that did it was wiping the /sdcard. I might have accidentally skipped over that, either way. Thanks for the help! I got everything back to the way it used to (with more space of course).
I'm going to install a new ROM for the first time, planning to install Wicked.
For installing a ROM, I understand you are free to do it from the internal or external storage - you just need to find the file from the recovery's file manager. No problem.
HOWEVER, instructions for this (and many ROMs I've read about) tell you to do a "full wipe" (data, cache and dalvik).
Does this mean I can't (shouldn't) install from internal storage? Or, what are the consequences of not wiping the data partition? Can it be wiped after somehow loading the ROM file?

A "full" wipe isn't exactly a full wipe. You wipe system, data, and cache. While it's true that your internal SD card is on the /data partition, it is untouched by the wipe data function. As far as consequences to not wiping data... all sorts of problems can crop up if you don't wipe it; especially if you're moving between different ROMs (i.e. going from stock TouchWiz to an AOSP variant) or different versions of Android like 4.2.2 to 4.3, etc. If you're going from, say Wicked V9 to Wicked V10, it shouldn't be a problem to leave data intact because it's still Android 4.3. Wicked V8 to Wicked V9 would likely require a data wipe because it's going from 4.2.2 to 4.3.

Thanks. So the internal sdcard is not wiped by the data wipe? Is it possible to ask for the details of what the data wipe does in exact terms? Sounds like it doesn't do any formatting, so it must do a delete (rm -rf) of certain directories? Any idea which ones and which ones it leaves alone?

It wipes the userdata partition, and others, there's like 30 different partitions. This partition is where your apps and app data is stored. It does not wipe the sdcard partition which is your internal sdcard.

I see. So what data is stored on the internal sdcard partition? Is this the file system that you see by default when you connect to a computer via USB (MTC)? Where pics are stored and whatnot...

Switching between Sense Lollipop ROMs after doing a full wipe I get system ui crashes and therefore no notification bar, etc.
Only way back for me is to RUU and start over.

Hi,
make a copy of your private data from the internal storage and then boot into recovery. Goto wipe and select format data.
After them make a fresh installation of LP ROM.

I'm not OP but I had the same problem and this fixed it! Thank you!
Before when i had my nexus 6p i always wiped everything including internal storage, but when i wipe with my oneplus 5T i can transfer files from my computer to the phone. With bluspark twrp i was just using a usb because of that but in official twrp i cant use usb. Did anyone notice that too and if there is any solution for it ? Thanks
I think you wiped everything in advanced wipe option. After that PC doesn't detect internal storage. There is an option of format data in wipe, do it, restart to twrp, and you are good to go.
