I am using like 4 gigs on my main sd. It says I only have a gig left. I doubt my system is hitting 5 or 6 gigs. I'm using the Avatar rom. I attached a picture of my storage overview. I also formatted cache. Any ideas?

You are most like affected by the emulated storage bug. How to fix:
Have a card reader, and MicroSD to SD adapter
Back up all of you data to your computer
Update to the latest CWM or TWRP
Wipe Data \ Factory Reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Format /system
Copy a ROM and gapps to the external SD with the card reader
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Profit!
Lemme get other people's opinions before I get drastic.
Get disk usage from the market. Run that and see what it shows you.

Agreed. OP, formatting /system and /data will resolve this issue.
Thanks, I'll give it a try and report back. Can I use the same rom?
Yes sir. Wipe data, wipe cache. Wipe dalvik. Format /system. Format /data. Flash rom. Flash gapps. Reboot. All this is done, of course, assuming you have the rom, gapps and perhaps a band road all on a micro sd card. Cheers

I wiped the data, /system, cleared the cache/dalvik and such. Flashed both and rebooted. It shows 12 gigs total space, 2.13 available. All my files are still there. Are they supposed to be?
No. There's wipe data and format /data in cwm. Did you do both? You need to.
Or are you twrp?

Fixed! This time, I formated /data, did a user data format, and wiped my /sdcard. It's all good now, thanks!

Well the thing that did it was wiping the /sdcard. I might have accidentally skipped over that, either way. Thanks for the help! I got everything back to the way it used to (with more space of course).

Since no one will answer this on the thread for the ROM;
This is the 1st time I ever did a partition and uses APS2SD, so when a new vewrsion of the ROM, or any ROM with APS2SD built in comes out, what do I NOT wipe with Amon Ra Wipe?
Do I still do a Wipe ALL DATA/Factory Reset like I alwasy?? Or do I wipe everything individually but not SD CARD? OR NOT SD EXT???
Do I need to copy my SD card to my computer, and then reformat and repartition????
One person please answer this question I've asked 14 times......
When you want to flash a new ROM, wipe as usual (data/factory, cache, dalvik cache) but also do "sdext". This will ensure that any apps stored in your partition are also cleared out for a fresh and clean install of your new ROM
And about wiping 'sdcard"... this would resultin losing pics, backups, etc.
Tower, this is SkyRaider requesting a fly-by...
I guess it's weird then that when I wipe all, it doesn't wipe the SD Card, unless it skips that on purpose, which would make sense....
Thanks!
Good to know

When you select wipe all (in among 2.3) it shouldn't wipe your SD card, but it does include SD ext I believe. If there was no ext3 partition then it would skip that part. I have 2 cards, one is the 8gb card that is not partitioned, and the other is 16gb with ext3 partition. With the card that isn't partitioned, when I select wipe all it will say "skipping g" on the sd ext wipe. With my card that is partitioned, it does not skip that part and it wipes normally.

THanks, K2...
My fear was that with the EXT Partition, it might wipe the whole card.
I know that sounds a little ridiculous, but ya never know

No problem man. Just be aware, there is an option in amon that WILL wipe out your entire card. the 'wipe sdcard' will wipe it all, gone forever. Just be sure to choose the SDEXT option to format just the partition.
See, that's what had me confused, because when you click wipe all, it looks like all those sub "categories" (Cache, Dalvik, EXT3, etc) get wiped in the process, but apparently, that's not the case

The ones you list do indeed get wiped. It wipes EXT3 but not the FAT32 partition where your "normal" data lies. That's definitely how it should be. In fact, I don't even like having that Wipe SDCARD option there. It scares me. Good thing I don't do much wiping while drunk.

Hey all,
Now, I've been reading here and there, did lots od researching, and I am not sure what a clean install consists of.
Here's an examples I have found, but would like to know exactly what to do!
format system,cache,data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
Then flash rom.
What exactly are the best way to get a fresh clean clean install on the phone, from formatting, wiping and more? Just want to make sure that I am doing this right before blaming anyone.
JP
Format and wipe are basically the same in this sense, as all the info in that partition will be erased. If i do a clean flash i usually:
Factory reset-formats cache and data
Format system-removes existing rom(under mounts and storage on cwm)
Wipe Dalvik cache (usually, this will get wiped with one of the previous wipes mentioned, but i like to make sure)
Now, just about everything that can be wiped or formatted has been. Only things not wiped and formatted are the internal and external sd (if applicable) cards and the boot sector. I'm not exactly sure what is in the boot sector, so without detailed instruction to wipe it, I'm not going to touch it. This should give you a clean slate to flash a new ROM.

I'm going to install a new ROM for the first time, planning to install Wicked.
For installing a ROM, I understand you are free to do it from the internal or external storage - you just need to find the file from the recovery's file manager. No problem.
HOWEVER, instructions for this (and many ROMs I've read about) tell you to do a "full wipe" (data, cache and dalvik).
Does this mean I can't (shouldn't) install from internal storage? Or, what are the consequences of not wiping the data partition? Can it be wiped after somehow loading the ROM file?

A "full" wipe isn't exactly a full wipe. You wipe system, data, and cache. While it's true that your internal SD card is on the /data partition, it is untouched by the wipe data function. As far as consequences to not wiping data... all sorts of problems can crop up if you don't wipe it; especially if you're moving between different ROMs (i.e. going from stock TouchWiz to an AOSP variant) or different versions of Android like 4.2.2 to 4.3, etc. If you're going from, say Wicked V9 to Wicked V10, it shouldn't be a problem to leave data intact because it's still Android 4.3. Wicked V8 to Wicked V9 would likely require a data wipe because it's going from 4.2.2 to 4.3.

Thanks. So the internal sdcard is not wiped by the data wipe? Is it possible to ask for the details of what the data wipe does in exact terms? Sounds like it doesn't do any formatting, so it must do a delete (rm -rf) of certain directories? Any idea which ones and which ones it leaves alone?

It wipes the userdata partition, and others, there's like 30 different partitions. This partition is where your apps and app data is stored. It does not wipe the sdcard partition which is your internal sdcard.

I see. So what data is stored on the internal sdcard partition? Is this the file system that you see by default when you connect to a computer via USB (MTC)? Where pics are stored and whatnot...

Switching between Sense Lollipop ROMs after doing a full wipe I get system ui crashes and therefore no notification bar, etc.
Only way back for me is to RUU and start over.

Hi,
make a copy of your private data from the internal storage and then boot into recovery. Goto wipe and select format data.
After them make a fresh installation of LP ROM.

I'm not OP but I had the same problem and this fixed it! Thank you!
Advanced Wipe in Recovery provide a list of partitions (e.g. Dalvik, System, Data, Internal Storage, etc.) to wipe.
Can any expert let us know what is the different between wipe out partition Data vs Internal Storage??
Which folders will be gone if wipe out Data partition compare Internal Storage??
Thanks in advanced.
wiping out data will wipe all the apps and their data which is installed in your tom where as wiping Internal storage will wipe all photos, music etc that is saved in your phone's memory
