OP3, Custom ROMs and VOLTE - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Oxygen OS seems to be the only one giving me perfect implementation of VOLTE on JIO network in India. By perfect implementation I mean:
1. No need to install their app to make voice calls work.
2. Calls do not get disabled when connected to other WIFI networks.
On LineageOS 14.1 what I experienced was:
1. Had to install their Jio4GVoice app to make calling work (no big deal, I can live with that).
2. If I connect to a WiFi network (need to often do that at work), calling from this 4G SIM seems gets disabled. I can no longer even receive calls.
Has anyone tried various combinations. Could you share your experience. I don't like being stuck to OxygenOS but currently that's the only one working perfectly.

Here in the US, Volte is not only important to me but so is wifi calling or Vowifi. Both of these are implemented in the stock OOS rom. Until these features are offered in a custom rom, I can't switch as there are areas in my home that have poor network reception and wifi calling is necessary.

So it seems the alternatives like LineageOS or AOSP etc are lacking in VOWiFi.

I recently bought the sim.. Tried on aosip but didnt work without the voice app.. I didn't try it out with other roms yet though.. Works as it should on oos based roms..

OOS 4.0.2 is perfect. Lol I can even switch mobile data off and voice calls still works. Best volte implementation yet.

True.. They have this patch in the redmi note 3 section which enables volte on custom roms for it so you can use the stock dialer.. Not sure if it'd work on the op3 though..

Managed to get it working.. All I did was flash an OOS ROM (experience), was using it for a while I guess you need to make a calls and send SMS, then clean wipe and flash aosip.. Calls and sms work now with or without WiFi [emoji122] [emoji119]

Does T-Mobile wifi calling work?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
No. That is a carrier feature. You have to buy your phone from t-mobile if you need that.

That's not true. Its a software feature. HTC 10 unlocked from htc.com support wifi calling. CM13 supports wifi calling.

The true findings have not been reported yet. CM13 has "unlocked" through what they call trickery, but has not been reported to work on all devices. This topic comes up at every unlocked phone thread I have seen. It most likely will work on devices that either were purchased at T-Mobile or that have radios with the ability to place Wi-Fi calls (any phone compatible with project-fi). There are reports of the nexus 5 on cm13 not being able to use this, but the 5x (with it's Wi-Fi calling ability) to use it. The HTC 10 has the ability to make Wi-Fi calls natively (the radio supports it) on android N, so using it on t-mobiles WiFi calling makes sense. But, until there is confirmation that the oneplus 3 has this ability, then I'm going to say it probably won't work. I could very well be wrong, but I can't find anything proving it works on all devices right now.

Yeah no wifi calling and no ok google from a locked screen...I'll hold off and see if they update these, if not, probably move to the next nexus.
I just received my op3... No wifi calling option with T-Mobile. I hope they add it. My 6p came from project Fi and does work with wifi calling on T-Mobile.

If they ever get it working let me know. I'll also hold of until Wi-Fi calling works.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
seems wifi calling is still in the settings menu, but it disabled as soon as you toggle it and leave. CM13 on the nexus 6p has working wifi calling, so the device itself doesn't have to come from t-mobile to work. Still hoping this is not radio firmware related. Waiting for a decent CM13 port to see if there's a chance there. If anyone has flashed one of the two cm13 ports on their op3, is the wifi calling option visible in the settings menu?
It is equipped, but 1+ has to pay T-Mobile to test it and approve for use. 1+ says they won't. Maybe we can remind them we want it.

It depends. I wouldn't pay for Wi-Fi calling and I'll be damned if I'm going to be forced to pay it through some price increase just to appease a minority. There are other ways to achieve Wi-Fi calling that doesn't involve carrier support like WhatsApp
How do you call a landline on whatsapp. How do you receive calls to your phone number on whatsapp. There really aren't many full VoIP wifi calling solutions available, and none of them are even as close in integration or as seamless as the native implementation. Cant speak for most carriers, but it's free on T-Mobile. I can relate to not wanting to pay for features you don't have use of, but the same could be said for volte calling or LTE in general.

There is WiFi calling in the settings. Search for it. I'm attaching screenshot of my OOS 3.2.4 unrooted having WiFi calling option in setting.
And also it does support Ok Google from lock screen. Just Google it how to make it work...

Go to settings, in the search bar type "pre".

[VOLTE] Volte not working in Nextbit Robin [7.0]

I'm on Android 7.0 official, no root, no bootloader unlocked. I've Reliance Jio (which btw is LTE only) network. I can use internet fine on LTE but, calls doesn't work. I've enabled LTE enhanced mode. I also checked the apns. To place calls I've to use their 3rd party app which is pretty annoying. Any help?

I go back and forth from India and US so I really need this to work with Jio LTE and VOLTE in India. Its listed on various sites as being compatible. Did you ever figure out why your phone wasn't getting VOLTE?
Not sure why it isn't working for you. When Jio was launched late last year, I use it for a month Nov-dec 2016 and it worked fine. Tried it again in Feb 2017 for a week and it was fine.
Are you using the stock launcher and dialer? The dialer had worked for me without any issue without installing any 3rd party dialer.
jio is woeking fine in robin i have tested it in delhi, nainital etc..
Jio is working on most of the custom roms and flawless on stock rom..

WiFi Calling for T-Mobile on OnePlus3 (not T)

I just switched back to T-Mobile. My phone is fine on WiFi calling (HTC 10) but my wife's phone can't access it. She doesn't like me touching her phone often so it's currently on MM using Resurrection Remix.
Can it be done on this phone? I know a "stock-like" ROM had to be used on my HTC so can it be done on an OxygenOS based ROM? Can it be done on a non-Oxygen OS based ROM?
Thanks!
I start to wonder if T-Mobile whitelists by IMEI. It does NOT work on OnePlus 3 AFAIK

First of all, this feature is Sim dependent, so if you are on a plan that does not offer that feature, you can't get it. Next the room you are using has to support this feature. Not all do. I am using an AOSP room (7.1.2) and I am able to use this feature.

ASOP ROMS, not LOS, such as RR.
I flashed freedom os works with WiFi calling. However, I noticed it's the only rom that lists it as passing safety net (which is what the wifi calling and whatnot needs). I didn't both with the other roms but are you sure the other roms will work with T mobile WiFi calling?

You can use virtually any AOSP (Pure Nexus. AOSP extended, Phoenix AOSP Extended) for WiFi calling. They all have the feature. If you use Magisck, it will also pass safety net. Just enable hide in Magisck settings and disable adb settings in developer options.

T-Mobile wifi calling works in the USA on either of those roms?
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I told you they do and if I could attach a screenshot, you would be able to see. BTW, I live in San Diego.
Many retail/unlock mobiles have "Wifi Calling" function but not any menu entry to enable , The APP can check the hidden function and enable it if can use.

Just to weigh in here, I can confirm that WiFi calling on T-Mobile works for me on my OnePlus 3 (Asia/Europe model, no US LTE bands) running on a nougat based custom ROM. I do have Magisk installed with SafetyNet working.

Mi A2 Lite WiFi Calling?

Ok so I'm very disappointed that the WiFi Calling function (VoWifi) has been disabled in this phone, along with Volte, take a look in your phone information by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and you will see that they're both there but disabled. You can enable Volte by dialing *#*#86583#*#* and you will see an enhanced 4g LTE Mode option appear in network settings and get HD (calling) in the status bar when on 4g, depending on your network.
BUT, there seems no way to enable WiFi calling? There is a Magisk module available called voenabler which I have installed, it has enabled the wifi calling menu, but when I make a call with no mobile network I get the message "Mobile network not available. Connect to a wireless network to make a call" as opposed to the usual "Mobile network no available" So it seems that it's trying, but not seeing my network?
I know it can provider dependant, I get HD calling and IMS registration, just seems like an odd error msg, can anyone shed any light on this please?
From my research it seems that this could be an AndroidOne license thing, my Brother has bought a P20 lite and it works out of the box, are Google saving the functions for it's flagship Pixels or network contract phones? Wouldn't surprise me, maybe Pie will switch it on....... Doubt it.
I'm surprised that there is not more activity on this thread.
WiFi calling is very convenient in poor signal areas but as you say it seems to be disabled on this phone.
I'm now using A2 lite as my daily phone, VOLTE working great but lack of WiFi calling a real disappointment.
Just for mental support, I'm also very disappointed that this feature is missing. I really need this feature in my well isolated home. I have to go outdoors to make phone calls.....
Under debug (*#*#INFO#*#*) it's indeed still locked. Disabled carrier check for VOLte as you said with *#*#86583#*#* though.
Yes I've all but given up... I've had the phone months but not used it.
I'll keep it until the pie update, a comment on the pie thread said that it enabled volte with a working ims, I asked but no one confirmed wether or not vowifi was enabled or switchable in the info settings.
Trouble is there is no information about vowifi in any other android one phone? If I knew it was available I'd buy a Nokia 6.1 plus for example.
Reset phone back to factory, installed Pie ota, both volte and vowifi are disabled as in Oreo. Real shame as this A2 is a cracking phone for the price, but I'll have to find something else. Preferably AndroidOne with WiFi calling!
VoLTE & WiFI Calling not working for T-Mobile USA. Even 2G/3G calling is spotty at best. If you want to use the Mi A2 Lite for calling on T-Mobile in USA, good luck. 4G LTE, data, MMS/SMS are flawless, however calling is really bad.
Wifi calling is working fine, if you're supported the toggles show up in google phone.
I used magisk module voenable although I don't think it did anything, could be wrong but wifi calling and volte working great
Thanks Boe!
I see you're in the Uk, what network are you on? Contract / sim only? I've tried most in my A2 Lite and none worked but they were just payg sims. I haven't tried the voenabler again after installing Pie.
Both networks are contract ,Vodafone uk and EE UK, they both have wifi 4g calling enabled in there provider account , plus didn't work untill I dialed that number , flashed magisk also with module voenable. I didn't check for wifi option in Google phone before magisk so don't know if it helped or not. Reading in xiomi forum, it's disabled for certain countries including UK even though it's a global use phone, which is rediculous.Have a look in your provider account if you have one, or create an account so you have access to sim provider config.
Latest beta v27 Google phone if that helps.
Cheers. I'm on BT uk and have vowifi enabled as I've put my sim in an iphone and it went on wifi calling. My brother has ee, I'll try his card.
They seem to have done something new for Pie as previously only one sim could get 4g? Looks like I'll have to re-install magisk and try voenable again, was it simple in pie with the different bootimage?

Same process but with 10.20 patched boot in pie dump thread, i still made my own though, seems logical to use your own patched boot. Although check to make sure its the right size as first time i did it, the patch had zero bytes. Wifi calling enables on both sims and hd calling, i assume its just a bug, sometimes it works as expected and sometimes it enables everything on both sims lol, battery goes quick. Wish i could get nfc on it but theres no chip so thats a no go. As long as you dont mess with the system partition outside of magisk ota's will be more simple to sort out, keep stock boot as back up on pc and phone. Busy box is one file in sbin folder if you install it.

I can confirm that Wifi Calling works on Orange Poland after installing VoEnabler module in Magisk:
Cheers Guys!
Reinstalled Magisk and Voenabler after removing it to upgrade to Pie, and have Wifi calling on BT uk! Tested and working.
Definitely something to do with Pie as would not work in Oreo (or without voenable in Pie)
Glad you sorted it bro, it's nice to have functions working.
Yes it is, you're right it is ridiculous that it's disabled and I still suspect it's androidone licensing or network pressure limiting the functions.
And it shows what a load of BS and miss-information there is around wifi calling, I called BT and asked saying I wanted to buy a new phone with it, the first guy who seemed quite bright said it should work if the phone's not on their official list as long as the phone supports it (he seemed a little reluctant, like he shouldn't be telling me) The second call when I asked if they could check I was sim enabled I was told by a lady that it definitely would not work unless I bought a phone from their list - Xiaomi? Who are they?
And according to my BT app I still don't have either volte or vowifi.....
I'm well pleased, I have no / borderline network signal from any provider in or around my home so now I have a working phone!
Guys any idea if the Pie update on A2 made possible the Vowifi? I tried on mine but only Volte seems to work. Cosmote Greece.
