Problem with M8s with S-on - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so i am in a somewhat sticky situation. I am trying to help my friend fix his M8. The owner said that the phone never had the bootloader unlocked, neither was it rooted. When the phone is turned on, it says:
*** Software status: Modified ***
*** Locked ***
***Security Warning ***

When i connected it to the pc and ran fastboot getvar all, I got:

What i have tried doing so far was to try unlock the bootloader and also tried using one of the RUU files. The bootloader failed (on the terminal it completed everything and the phone rebooted to the phase where it asks for confirmation. After the confirmation, it reboots back to the same white ***Locked*** screen. Im assuming the Locked means the bootloader is still locked.) The RUU exe fails due to Error 171( no idea what it means). I just tried
*Edit: So i tried following what was said in this thread. When i put the sd card in, the phone displays CID incorrect, Update fail. I am unsure why it says this as i picked an RUU that had the same radio number as the phone. (0PKVIM[email protected]60201_20.05_018_F_release_479349_combined_signed is the one i tried using)
Any ideas what steps to take? Thanks in advance

Error 171 is a connection error, meaning the RUU can't connect to/find your phone.
Edit: after your SD method, what was the error code?

This should be an easy fix.
His hboot number tells me he is on 4.4.3 firmware. The OS/version-main is blank because he is using an outdated recovery. Later he should update to TWRP 2.8.0.3. There is a newer version (2.8.1.0) but users have reported issues with it.
So....download a 4.4.3 ROM on your PC and place it onto his ext SD and insert that into the phone.
To get into fastboot (you can go to recovery from there), hold down the power button and vol down while the phone is off. You can also enter it while the phone is on by holding power + vol up until the phone reboots, and as soon as the screen goes black slide your finger from vol up to vol down.
Using the vol button to navigate the fastboot menu, choose hboot with the power button. (it's the first choice, no navigating actually needed). From hboot you can navigate to recovery and hit the power button. Flash the ROM, and everything should be fixed. :good:

Need help getting Developer Edition back to stock

My office recently purchased a used HTC One M8 Developer Edition device for testing purposes. I was under the impression that it was stock, but I was wrong. It had TWRP installed. The system alerted me that there's a system update, but when I try to install it, it just boots into TWRP. I managed to flash the stock recovery back to it, but when I try to apply the update, it just boots to the fastboot screen, and does nothing.
Here's all of the info I've got about the phone:

I'm adb/fastboot savvy as a Nexus user, but the HTC world is unfamiliar to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've been looking up various articles and posts for the last 3 hours trying to figure this out.

You could just flash the developer RUU. Either Lock the bootloader and flash it via a PC (with htc sync installed) or put it on an sdcard and see and flash it from that.
Reading the Instructions helps. (PC Install)
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8/news/
Latest RUU on their website is newer then the one you have flashed.
Thanks @Tachi91! I appreciate the nudge in the right direction!

[Q] Broken recovery HTC M8 (Devil's Loop)

Hei guys I managed to **** up my HTC M8 pretty bad (I think..)
I had a rooted M8 with 4.4.4 so 5.0.2 came out a few days ago and I tried to update my phone today. To do so I wanted to unroot my phone so I did the following things:
1. I did a factory reset using the option in Clockworkmod
2. I flashed the stock recovery to my phone
3. I (re)locked my bootloader
The problem is something seems to be wrong with the flashed recovery, Factory Resetting or booting into recovery just restarts the phone and the OTA also just reboots the phone. Unlocking the bootloader and CHECK SMARTSD also won't work anymore..
I really don't know what to do now/where to ask for help..
Here is some information I can provide:
Bootloader looks like this:
*** Software status: Modified ***
*** Relocked ***

Hope you can help me, thanks for reading.
Unrooting and relocking the bootloader was a useless move. OTA accepts rooted phones and with bootloader unlocked. OTA needs a stock recovery and a clean system.
What you can do is flash via adb TWRP and restore a working backup of your firmware.
P.S. Delete your IMEI and SERIAL NUMBER from your post.

Bootloop on stock!

I have no idea what's happened but all of a sudden my phone stopped booting up, from having looked around the relevant information seems to be the bootloader screen and "fastboot getvar all" so I've included those below. Does anyone know what's going on?

I removed the IMEI but nnot he MEID because the fact that it's all zero's may be relevant.
Another thing was from what I read the model ID seems to be European but the bootloader model seems to be telling me that it's a US phone. I bought the phone online so that may be relevant. I could be entirely wrong though! I'm from the UK if that's relevant?

You should also remove the serial number.

I agree, it looks like AT&T or Dev Edition that was "converted" by previous owner to be Euro (401).
I'd suggest finding the signed 4.16.401 RUU and try running it, to see if if fixes your bootloop. Any user data will be lost when you RUU.
