Good Stock Rom - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am in a search for a daily stable driver like a stock. I tried all UX 5.0 roms Fulmics, N&N, Loe etc and they all have lagg especialy when a lot of opened apps in recents menu.
So is there a good stable and speedy rom, maybe a one with UX 4.0 that you recommand?

Fulmics 6.6.never gets laggy

Fulmics doesn't just lag. My phone abnormally overheats than usual, causing a damage to my wifi chip. I've also tried other stock based custom roms and it does the same. Right now I am running the MIUI 8. Smooth and I face no problem so far.

Flash any CM roms then change your resolution to 1920x1080 (Full HD). Really helps with speedy performance as the system needs only to render at this resolution (FHD) rather than 1440p. Kinda like what you do to game at higher FPS.

Any stock based rom with UX 4.0 ?

That's why I said flash any non-stock based rom. I don't game on my phone, but there's a post somewhere where they made a test and noticed a 30% boost in games using FHD resolution. Battery-wise I can't notice a significant boost. But theoretically it should somehow extend battery life. BUT I do see some gains in smoothness and overall ui performance.

Firmware? I'm using D855, currently on RR. I liked XenonHD, but I swtiched to RR because it has a bug where the navbar home button would not respond sometimes (hope they fixed it now). You could use any app that can change resolution and dpi, I'm using Easy DPI Changer currently.

If you're using a stock-based rom, no matter what app you'll use, it would force close. You need any AOSP-based ROM.

At this moment I have 13 apps open in recents on Fulmics 6.5, and it scrolls fast and fluid. No lag whatsoever.

Heating up is a G3 issue in general. Regardless, I've been on Fulmics for 7 months and the only time it's gotten noticeably hot was playing Pokemon Go in direct sunlight on a 104 degree summer day. I'm sure part of it staying cool is that I typically don't game. I do play a lot of videos though without issue.

does installing CM 11 degrades camera performance

i'm currently using the stock jelly bean 4.3 build and i'm not satisfied with it due to poor battery .i need a custom ROM that drastically improves the battery providing a full day of usage with 3g mobile data always on . i hear that installing custom ROM will degrade camera performance since the image processing algorithms get lost ,it it true ? is there any custom ROM that provides best battery life ,good call quality ,decent loud speaker(atleast similar to the stock one) and the same camera performance offered by the stock ROM
That would be great if custom rom had all you need,
But reality is that it doesn't at the moment
Yes camera quality on custom ROM is not as good as stock MIUI, also same with speakers
But you can improve battery life, heating issues, etc with proper selection of custom ROM and KERNEL
STOCK MIUI:-
1)Better Camera
2)LOUD speaker o/p
CUSTOM ROMS+KERNEL:-
1)Better battery
2)Better RAM manegment+Multitasking
3)Less heating
4)Updated Android Experience
BANG that THANKS button
at the end i ended up with the stock ROM jelly bean 4.3 since camera is very important for me . to prevent the overheating and battery issues i rooted the phone and underclocked the cpu to 1.2ghz with minimum frequency as 384mhz. may be this will help the phone to get the best of both worlds
Anyways there is a win
BTW the camera on custom ROM is not trash, its good.Stock camera has some edge over it that's it.
Anyways u should give a try to custom ROM sometime later(For me lollipop is much better than Jellybean) give a try,you can always revert back to stock if not satisfied.Your wish, use the one which gives more satisfaction
BANG that THANKS button
is the cm11 4.4.4 ROM in stable state ? i mean the most less bugs because this phone is my daily driver and i dont need it to fail on any occasions
Yes its stable I used it few months ago,CM12.1 that I'm currently using is also stable
BANG that THANKS button
the word i mean stable is no bugs . i know that still lollipop is under development . my xperia l is getting official cm 12 and there are bugs with it . that's why i'm asking whether the cm11 is super stable with no bugs

Unofficial cm11 r26 is the last update for kitkat from the armani group and is considered to be quite stable. I think battery life should be at least ok if not good. CM12.1 r4 has poor battery life at the moment. Miui v50 is supposed to give reasonably good battery life so try it if you haven't yet.
You can install the miui camera on cm11 or 12.1 but you don't have the option to save to sdcard or the HDR options but it works. I don't think the processing algorithms are any different since its the same program.
Yes, Camera in CM11 and CM12 is not as good as Stock. Especially video recording blinks when trying to focus which is a dealbreaker for some.
Well,If we consider that stock camera is 10/10 , CM11 would be 8/10.The same goes for speakers.I don't understand why the music, from youtube or music player is not that loud, and when the phone rings,it's like he ate a powerfull speaker
I used cm11 for a long long time and now I kinda regret that I updated to miui v6.The good thing about cm11 is that you decide what to keep, what to delete, battery is good, ram management is great, phone doesn't heat like crazy.
In the end , we don't have a custom rom or a stock rom which has it all.I remember I was very happy on miui v5 with some thermal config and root acces.thinking to revert back to that,I remember i switched because i got bored.

I did a few test camera shots and found that the CM11 camera performs quite similarly to the miui camera. I was hard pressed to tell the difference btwn both apps except through from pixel peeping. Is there a scenario like HDR where the miui camera performs significantly better (8 vs 10) as you say?
Miui v5 has that 1gb zram thing which puts some lag, fast overheating due to 1.6Ghz max clock and has that sms bug which I didn't like. I could reduce the clockspeed after rooting but I still the 2 other issues and miui is too bloated for 1Gb ram.

First things first, the HDR doesn't even work in CM11.
Then, the ram management is decent, all you have to do is to strip down the rom a little(remove all bloatware, the security thing, don't use sync and don't let all your apps notify you,use notifications just for what you need.Greenify is also a good option after you did all those things. In MIUI V6,when you use the phone a little, like browsing for couple of minutes,or use camera,or facebook and so on,when you click on home button,an message appears " Just a sec " and after 2-3 seconds the launcher appears. Also, multitasking is bad in MIUI v6.I mean you open facebook for example, you click on a link and gets you in browser and then when you come back to facebook it doesn't starts from where you left it,it loads again. In miui v5 at least I could open 3-4 apps and use multitasking properly.
About sms bug,I have no clue what you're saying.
The heating isn't an issue,of course if it's not underclocking the cpu too much and the phone lags.Just flash a better thermal config from xda and there'll be no issues.
In conclusion, this phone will always lack something. It's cheap and that says it all. However, the building quality is great,I've dropped it couple of times, few times even without case and I couldn't see a scratch. The camera is amazing, including the video one.The performance, well,it comes at a cost.Either you reduce performance and keep the cpu cold,or you choose to play great games, but the phone will heat up.Honestly,I used an samsung galaxy s5,not mine, but played with it a little, and it heats up pretty bad too.So...enjoy your redmi 1s.
^pretty much sums it.
Could you please guide me towards a thermal config for stock ? Will i need to flash a kernel or a governor?
Thanks

If the only difference btwn the miui vs cynogen/google camera quality (8 vs 10) is HDR, then custom rom users aren't doing so bad.
The SMS bug affects numbers where the country code ends in a "0" and some sms's cannot be replied from the messaging app depending on how a phone number is stored in the contacts list (whether it contains the country code or not). Its a big problem and the bug report is still open. According to Xiaomi theres no easy fix.
Having the max cpu clock set to 1.6Ghz means the phone heats up far more quickly. And manufacturers whose phones use the same cpu only clock it to 1.4Ghz. Thats why CM's default speed is set to 1.4Ghz as well.
Enjoy your redmi 1s too.

How to make custom roms run faster as MiUi??

Hi Guys, can anyone could please tell us how to speed up the os. After installing the rom+gapps+capps+xposed modules within one day or two mobile gets slow in CM or CM based roms. But same apps and setup installed on MiUi are not making it slow.
Could anyone help me how to make android faster even after using apps+mods???
MiUi standby times are not great as Marshmallow roms thats why im trying to use them.
use custom rom with 4.4 based (but it would be so hard to find), MIUI for armani still use 4.4 thats why it's lighter than LP & MM
btw have you tried use custom kernel?
I use krexus with neon v7 b3 and some 50 apps installed. Despite of some lags It gives me best performance. Also using some xposed modules with the rom. Overall a great performance from a mm rom to our little beast.
Tweak the kernel a bit and you'll get some decent battery life. I get an sot of 6hrs and overnight drain 0% with wifi and mobile data disabled.

Yes, I have started using phantom beta kernel with miui 8 global rom. I'm getting 22H+ standby, 2-3H SOT. I think this is best what i have seen with MiUi trying to tweak frequencies for extra juice and im quite satisfied with the config right now.

No it doesn't have call recording feature. You can use CyanogenMod for that but cm lags somewhat. So I prefer AOSP. I don't use call recording so I don't know any third party apps tgat works better with this rom.

Giving my Z2 to Mom, How to make it fool proof? Suggest ROM and Apps Details inside

The requirements are simple – everything should just work fine. Requirements include games like Subway Surfers and such, browsing the web, YouTube and working camera. For me I am getting a Mi A1 or Redmi Note 5 Pro (I don’t like MIUI though but for the price I can compromise and it seems the best choice, there are no other options at that price, please suggest if you have other device in mind. Also in future I can Install ROMs on Note 5 Pro also, so yeah).
Below are my few ideas:
Stock ZUI EN 2.0.133 ST because it is more stable than Nougat variant. With ZUI I am planning on installing the Material Notification Shade app to fix the disappearing notifications icons issue but in my testing I found it to be using almost 50% of the battery, therefore I am scrapping ZUI idea. Also ZUI feels a bit cluttered too. If the notification shade app can be made to consume less battery then I will go with it though. I know ZUI with Oreo is around the corner but it's ZUI after all.
I am currently using AEX 5.2. It is quite stable but has good overnight battery drain, like ~15% sometimes. Yesterday I slept at 3 am with 82% and woke up with 68% battery at 10 am. Also there is the camera problem. I have been using the Modded GCAM and it is GREAT! Only problem is the videos, unusable slow motion and normal videos come dark and they are unusable as well. BUT for videos I use OnePlus’ camera app and it is good but I can’t see mom using camera without getting confused So I am ready to forgo the camera2api magic and install a non-frills camera.
So for Camera please suggest an all-rounder workable camera application that I can install in the system or as priv-app and also any suggestion for the battery drain.
I am looking at some other ROMs as well. I want to test some ROMs that just work. I have been hearing about ViperOS and H2OS for some time that they are great. I just need a ROM that will work, no bells and whistles needed. So please Suggest some ROMs.
If you have any other suggestion then please let me know.

I did use 4.6 way back and here is what i found if i recall:
In notification shade when you swipe the notification it stutters.
I don't remember about the heating issue though.
It was stuttery in general now that i remember, i had to flash Heliox Kernel for the heating issue and there was no improvement in the performance.
4.4 was quite good if i remember it correctly.
Anyways thanks i think i might revisit this ROM

I have to say, just ask your mum about her preferences of what she likes to use out of the phone.
And install barebone AOSP-ish rom with adblock/popup block/youtube ad-block on it. Then get her apps installed and she'll be happy. No complexities whatsoever.
Our elders aren't picky as us , my mum is using an LG G3 and its been on fulmics rom from day one, and it works perfect for her because all she does is follow up daily news, youtube, browse some internet, watch some episodes and thats it.
Also a 5.5" or 6" screen is ideal for our elders because of good visiblity of text etc.

Adaway for adblock (it blocks adfly links too)
YouTube adblock is Xposed module.

I'm using the rom as it is, with its own kernel (it's heliox btw). The rest is up to you, I'm using gapps pico, magisk just to have root and remove ads with adaway and gcam mod
just use viper os 3.1.1 with heliox 10/15 ..
Nitrogen OS Would be the Best! But there isn't any solution to Dark Videos as yet. Still you can use Proshot or Footej Camera for the Job.

Still usable?

I bought a 2nd hand (mint) white Nexus 7 2013 last year in March.
Soon after I had a bad flash it was soft bricked, I can get into recovery and get fastboot to work etc, but NRT won't work to restore it, so I put it in a drawer and forgot about it.
I got it out today and would like to get it working, it seems it is possible and I will give it a good go later on
My question is, I remember it being quite laggy on YouTube and in general. Is this still true? Or will it be perfectly okay on a custom rom/kernel?
I really only want it for YouTube and Netflix and maybe the odd web browsing session. No games or intensive apps!
Thanks
Update - Got it back up and running. On fully stock 6.0.1 now. Not quite sure what my best bet is for a custom rom. I ideally want reasonable performance when scrolling and the battery not to be completely awful.
Is there a go-to for this device for stable, reliable performance? It won't be used all the time, maybe an hour or so a day for watching YouTube or a Netflix show. Maybe scrolling through some news apps if I get bored. My smartphone is a Pixel 2XL, so I know the performance won't be anything like that, so it won't replace my phone for most of my tasks.

I've been using Unlegacy Android plus ElementalX kernel since last November. See this post for my feedback and some pro tips
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80842805&postcount=542
The only drawback is that you'll need an older version of the Netflix app (just search for "Netflix" in the ROM thread) because Widevine L1 (which is a requirement for FullHD support in newer versions of Netflix) is only supported in the stock 6.0.1 ROM as well as custom ROMs based on 6.0.1. That older version of Netflix does not check Widevine level—BUT also does not support offline saving for later viewing.
If this is an issue for you, just stay on 6.0.1
PS If you decide to use ElementalX kernel, DO NOT UPDATE it past version 7.00!
Version 7.02 is for LineageOS only and will screw up GUI big time.
You can try this rom:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7-2013/development/rom-t3569067
No battery drain. :good:
I was going to flash Pixel Experience ROM last night, but had some issues...
I flashed the latest TWRP via fastboot and it was successful and booted into TWRP fine, but then bootlooped when I restarted the system? I then booted back into TWRP, loaded up the ROM I chose and tried to flash that, which gave me Error 7 I believe and did not work. So I left it at that and will reflash stock 6.0.1 tonight and maybe try an older version of TWRP? Not sure why it bootlooped the first time.
Can I go straight to 9.0 from 6.0.1? Not sure why it wouldn't flash the Pixel Experience ROM.
Edit- I installed version 'twrp-3.3.1-0-flo.img 8.8M 2019-05-19 16:27:52 EDT'
The verson of the rom I installed was the pure experience 'plus' version on the download page. Maybe that was my mistake? I am going to try a Nougat rom tonight to see how that works first before committing to 9.0 +
I flashed aosp extended 7.1.2 but YouTube is still very slow.
Will this be the case for every rom and kernel?
I'm now on Pure Nexus 7.1.2 it seems very good really, much quicker than stock.
YouTube was still slow, so I just created a shortcut to the browser version which is much smoother.
Overall really enjoying having a small tablet again.
I'd buy one with up to date spec in a heartbeat

The verson of the rom I installed was the pure experience 'plus' version on the download page. Maybe that was my mistake? I am going to try a Nougat rom tonight to see how that works first before committing to 9.0 +

If you get error 7, you need repartition.
System partition is too small for this rom.

Will this be the case for every rom and kernel?

Unfortunately, 720p60 will be slow anyway, but you can use NewPipe to watch 720p60/1080p60 videos in 1080p30. Check post #3 above for the link to my post with detailed feedback and tips.
Moreover, I do recommend Unlegacy Android plus ElementalX kernel. With a mild overclock (again, details are in my post mentioned above) the tablet becomes WAY smoother.

Is there any kernel for this ROM that allows for both overclocking CPU/GPU and undervolting CPU?
I didn't mean the video playback was slow. The scrolling in the app was slow, very stuttery

Well then you need a ROM/kernel combo that will make it possible to overclock the CPU.
I use YouTube Vanced/Newpipe and scrolling is okeyish there after a mild CPU/GPU overclock.

while the battery holds a charge of 3 days, I see no reason to waste time on such searches. There will be a task - I will decide.

My Nexus 7 is on stock 6.0.1 with Elemental X kernel using all stock settings and it still runs like a champ I use it more than my s9 plus for watching YouTube and other streaming apps I would say the Nexus 7 is definitely still usable.

Does yours lag when scrolling on YouTube? Even on Pure Nexus ROM mine will lag a lot when scrolling and takes forever to load my subscription page.

How bizarre...
So to confirm, you are on stock 6.0.1, the last update from Google and all you did was flash EX kernel on top of it?
Did YouTube lag when scrolling on fully stock? It lags for me no matter what I've tried so far

Yes it runs sweet as the only trouble I ever had with my Nexus was when the screen stopped autorotating and was acting up so I used the following fix using a strip of foam and it's been perfect ever since. I also applied some tape to the wider silver ribbon cable along the top edge of the battery as shown in the pictures.
It might be worth trying these fixes on your tablet.

And it runs quickly on the YouTube app? I find mine runs fine when opening YouTube on a web browser, but the app is the slowest app I have ever used on it.

With a mild overclock in ElementalX kernel (CPU to 1728 MHz and GPU to 450 MHz), the UI is way smoother than at stock frequencies.
However I switched to Unlegacy Android to enjoy more recent security updates as well as updated ElementalX kernel (it's 7.00 for Oreo ROMs).

Question [Solved] Facing so much UI lags on Stock MIUI!

Have you guys ever experienced any lags in the UI?
Especially when I'm unlocking my phone, opening notifications shade or going to the recent apps screen (with gestures), it's like I'm using a very old device with a 1 GB RAM and It's driving me crazy!
I used to set up work profile using Shelter, turned off MIUI Optimisation (to have the REAL always-on display) and was using super wallpapers somehow and I thought it makes my phone slow.
Today I did a factory reset, and guess what, nothing was changed!
Even at the very first step which I didn't even install any applications, lags are clearly visible.
I'm using the stock ROM and never tried to unlock the bootloader or flashing custom recovery.
Please help me. I've tried any possible solutions including factory reset.
I even compared this device with a Mi Note 8 in the same condition and the Note 8 had a better performance. Or maybe these lags are normal on this device!
Do you have any idea?
Thanks.

On latest build(global rom) right. But it only happen when the battery level is below 60%. I noticed it and moved to custom rom because of it. Install cpu frequency monitoring app like devcheck, the big cores are turned off(hotplugged), that's the cause of lags. Above 60% battery, everything is normal(no hotplug). I have no idea how to fix it, assuming that it's a bug.
Yeah, the UI after 12.5.5 update definitely lags, which is disappointing.

Thanks dear gingerboy.
But it happens all the time, no matter how much the battery level is.
Which custom ROM do you prefer? Is it stable and completely bugless?
And also, do you know any app that can messure my device's performance and compare it with other's?

I use devcheck to see the cpu, not sure if there's any reliable benchmark app for ui. Currently using xperience project. Not much choices for our phone yet, so can't really suggest. The rom is stable enough for daily use, but camera is not perfect, need to use ported gcam for basic features (ultrawide cam etc).

I think I should wait for the next MIUI update, hope Xiaomi fixes those bugs. If not I'm going to flash some android 12 based custom ROMs when they've been developed at the stable stage.
Anyway, thanks for your help bro.

Ohh thank you so much, let me try..
I have just updated MIUI 12.5.6 and the lagging problem still exists, I can't use Gmail, Twitter etc just because of the lagging..
I also wiped dalvik/cache after the update.
Finally, back to 'superman' feeling with 12.5.6... last update was big time sucks

Did you guys found any solution???
Currently using xiaomi.eu 13.0.4
It's performance is same as the MIUI 13 and the lags are still exist!
What ROM are you using? Is it more stable?

I'm using PE for couple of weeks. It's very smooth and fast, good battery life. There is unexplained occasional freezes, which I suspect is somehow related to YoutubeVanced (because that's mostly what I'm using when phone freezes). Other than that, it was best decision to move to PE.

Thanks.
I faced such crash issues with crDroid 8.2 and I'm not sure that's due to YoutubeVanced because I don't have this app.
Anyway, I'm going to flash Pixel Experience in some weeks and give it a try.
Does the camera work fine with no issues? Which camera app are you using?

I'm not using camera that much, but both stock camera (which has very little functionality) and Gcam for Mi11 lite works.
Honestly, flashing PE android 12 has fixed most of the issues I had with this phone (framedrops, weird miui power saving that limits some apps to 60hz for some reason, overall smoothness and speed, weird auto brightness...). Its just a better experience for this phone in my opinion. MIUI is only decent on phones with high end chips and even then its kinda bad.
I realised that using Super Wallpapers on xiaomi.eu ROM causes lags and bugs.
Lags are gone after I set another wallpaper.
So ...
That's it.

Never used Super Wallpapers myself, I doubt that was it.
In my opinion this version of miui 13 is still not working perfectly. I mainly noticed several problems with the smoothness of the system that don't exist in Miui version 12.5. Yesterday I installed the PE12 version and I have no complaints, great battery and performance.
