I haven't been on XDA for many months but I'm sure there used to be a "Printable Version" option somewhere for forum posts. I've looked at half a dozen posts this morning but haven't been able to find anything.
In the FAQ (https://forum.xda-developers.com/faq.php?s=&do=search&q=printable&match=all&titlesonly=0) I found a mention of it under Thread Tools but I either I'm blind or it's vanished.
"At the top of each thread, there is a link called 'Thread Tools'. By clicking on this link, a menu will appear with a number of options:
Show Printable Version - this will show you a page with the thread post content in a reduced graphics format that is more 'printer friendly'."
Please tell me I'm just being blind and dumb and point me to where I should be looking!
Thanks in advance

The 2010 site theme has thread tools. 2013 beta has a print button, and I'm not sure it's an option on other themes. Perhaps it was abandoned, since most browsers have their own print options.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for taking the time to reply Darth. I'm guessing it might have something to do with the option of removing ads (which is certainly new to me) but completely understandable. There used to be a "simplify" version when printing via chrome but seems google have removed that on version 49.0.2623.112 (yes, I own up to being a guilty XP user) and selecting comes out all squwif. As I don't have internet at home I print off the long forums with several hundred posts to read later on .

You could attempt switching to 2010 theme to see if it does what you want when you want to print. Then switch back to your preferred theme otherwise.
Just a thought.

I tried to surf this website on my browser on the mytouch 3g and realized that it is a pain the the @$$ to surf. I was wondering if there can be a mobile site.
- You can easily log into your account to access User CP and check your messages.
-Search for Threads and/or Add New Threads feature
-You can pick between Mobile or Desktop View
Also there are some other things that I feel could be better.
-When someone quotes you, you can get an email notification telling you. This way people don't have to subscribe to every thread they put a post to see if people respond to your post.
-A Google Chrome Plug-In like you can see your Account Status easier or search for forums from the URL Bar.
If anyone else has any issues that they want to be fixed please post them I'm pretty sure a Mod or Admin is going to see this thread.
I'm not sure if this has been proposed before but if it has please direct me to the thread and/or lock this thread. I really don't want to be banned or suspended. I searched but could find anything.
This probably would have been best to post in the sticky called (requests) From the Users to the Mods & Admins. However, I at least have an answer one of your questions, the mobile site one. Somebody on the boards (ktemkin) made a mobile site for XDA-Developers, which is can be accessed by going to http://xda-developers.mobi. It's not the prettiest site and it doesn't have full functionality, but it gets the job done better than any other solution out there at the moment. Hope that helps
Did not know about this. Like u said it's not pretty, but it's the best we have right now.
But vBulletin comes with built-in pda display -- no one ever sees this because it's obscure in the top-left menu on the homepage:

meh, that's just the standard Vbulletin Archive View, branded as a PDA layout. It's better than the standard view when on a mobile browser, but xda-developers.mobi renders things much better IMO. View the forum with your Hero's browser using each one, and I'm pretty sure you'll prefer xda-developers.mobi over the archive view. As I said, neither are perfect solutions, and a dedicated client (like the now halted XDApp) would be best, but both can get the job done to a degree.

If I use the Android XDA app, the Marketplace is visible in General. Using a real browser however, it's not. A quick search for a link into the Marketplace rears a permissions error. And all of this without being registered. So what gives? Something I'm missing here?

It's not the app...we've changed the permission on the Marketplace to not allow access to a user until he/she has made 8 posts. That 8 post level is also the same point at which you can post links. It's just an anti-spam measure. We found people were registering at XDA just to spam the site or the Marketplace. This helps.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
This is good to know. Long time lurker and finally signed up so I could post in the marketplace but alas!
Can someone link to the rules for gaining access to the Marketplace? I have 8 posts but still cannot see it. Tried logging out and back in but still nothing
For a while there I thought I needed to check my eye sight. Makes sense now.
Hard to achieve 8 post if you have nothing to say or to discuss or if everything is so well explained that you do not need answers
Maybe you could add a waiting time also. Lets say after 4 weeks you get to see the market, I highly doubt anyone would wait 4 weeks just to spam something.
It doesn't make sense that you can view the Marketplace before you sign up (and then have it dissapear after you are a member).
oh!! so thats why i couldnt c the marketplace
I am new here. it seem that this is an useful forum.
welcome to forums
Once you become an active/regula user all XDA features will be unlocked and you will be able to post in marketplace, this rule is to protect us from spammers/scammers
Ah I was wondering why I wasn't able to see that deal I saw anymore... guess I'm off to ask more questions.
I have been on the site reading for 6 months now trying not to poste but now i need to use the market so here is my 8th poste thanks.

Hi
Now don't take this the wrong way, but... Searching your forums is a headache!
OK if I wanted to find out something generic as rooting an Android phone, before posting one should search to see if it has been already posted, not a problem. Using the Google custom search you get 2.6 million results in no particular order, the 1st ten can range from 3 years ago to yesterday (most results do not show date) (results give very little info) so it is a bit of a lottery finding a relevant thread.
Using "Search this Forum" is all very well and good, but for one thing. Searching for "rooting an Android phone" from what can see is, that it can be found in a least 4 separate Forums...
So what's all the gripe about? Well back in the days of 486's & P1's myself and 2 others designed and implemented a search engine for the Royal Navy's internal Forum. The Forum being as large as xda's if not larger, displayed results: Forum Name, Title of Thread, Date and 1st two lines of thread as your basic search with option of advanced criteria.
It was simple and idiot proof and can be found in use all over the internet.
So to cap it off, one search engine displaying results in date order for entire Forum. Simples...

To be honest next time add in your device name. This is due to rooting an Android device depends on the device. I use the FF search plug in and my always defaults to the newest post. But I do agree I thing the plugin should be updated

Is there any way to search for a phrase together? Like "tell if I am root". The search results are always for the individual words, not the whole phrase, however I've tried it (quotes single and double, +'s, ANDs). I've also often found that search engines (I don't use Google) give more relevant results, even though they're all on XDA-developers.

LMAO one have to click "NOOBS BEST FRIEND" in your sig........frankly i was a bit scared to click it
I have written this on the main interface page and received no answers.
On some pages I get to a point where no matter how many times I click on the back button, the page goes nowhere. When I long click on the back button it shows a list and there are pages of the same link that has the word ads in it. If I click on the bottom item in the list and long click on the back button again, the same list comes up. If I do this several times, I finally get to where I was to navigate to the page.
While I haven't actually taken the time to count, I am sure that there are over 40-50 page listings that come up from one page with only a few messages.
I am using IE9 and I want to know what I can do to stop this overtly evil behavior. I fully understand the need for ads but I don't see any good reasoning to hijack my page. If I click on a link in the page, I can then go back to normal. It doesn't happen on every page, just sometimes.
Since my bookmark to this site is on IE9 and not Chrome or Firefox and since I navigate to this site only on my desktop, I don't get the problem elsewhere. This behavior is only on this site. Some sites open pop under windows (also evil) and pop up windows (annoying) but this one really gets me angry.
Again, how does one get this bad beharior to stop???!!!
Please help:crying:
I just went back to the offending page and several times it only had two instances of the ads link. I then went to Chrome and it didn't happen at all. I know there is evil here because it is related to advertising. Is someone posting hiding something here? Is the site doing this to me? Is it an attack on IE because of the anti microsoft sentiment?
Why Why Why???
I'm done. I'm hoping for some answers now.
Sorry about the rant. I have to use IE because it is what my non technical wife is used to and the always there bookmarks on the left are important. We also have land line becasue she won't give it up.
Ummm. Don't think your in the right place dude. You'd be better off searchin ms support or at least using a windows forum. This is Android!
But to try to help, sounds like a browser hijacker, or malware. You need to run scans with malwarebytes, spybot, hijack this, anti-virus....you get the idea.
Sorry I can't help you more than that. Good luck

If you haven't already, download and run malwarebytes. Its one of the best and can find tons of stuff that regular AV can't.
As for bookmarks, if it comes to it there are utilities you can use to back them up. Then uninstall/reinstall IE.
You can also import bookmarks from/to chrome.

While looking for another solution (to another problem) I found your post. The same thing happened to me today on this site.
The problem is not your PC, nor your browser and is not a malware issue either. In fact, it's from a script that is specifically designed to disable the browsers' back button. You see, the back button does not generate any revenue towards pay-per-click and/or similar schemes. Click-throughs, however, will...
Chances are that one of the page ads loaded the script (usually java) and set a cookie as well (to prevent one from replicating the problem).
Closing the browser window is about the only way to get around it. Holding the pull-down for the back-button only shows numerous versions of the same page.
Other browsers have plugins that can prevent the script from running in the first place and/or block the ads entirely.
If it keeps happening then you should contact one of the Forum Mods.
Hope this helps.

At OP, if you are still having problems with the site, got to the main XDA page and flag an admin to check out your issues. Plus you could search there and if no results pop up or no one else is having the issue, there error could be between the chair and keyboard. If you want this to remain open, it is your choice but you will have better luck in the main XDA section, rather than the SGS3 section.
Shoot me a PM if you want it closed. If no PM by morning my time, then it is gone.
Without changing to the old XDA theme down below (ie XDA 2015) which works amazingly well and advanced search is very useful and you can arrange your results that can come in the form of THREADS or individual POSTS and sort by relevance, last posting date, creation date....and the list goes on.
The search feature now you just begin typing and pray to god what you search for make something pop up close to what you are wanting. Good luck though because most likely the results are going to be in a terrible non chronilogical order (i have results pop up from 3 years ago....then very next result is from 2018 and all over the place!!)
How in the heck can you perform an advanced search without going down below and changing the theme to something OLD so that you can reach the "advanced search" button
The search plus feature is a piece of junk
Educate me on how the AVERAGE person is not immediately turned off and frustrated by this. If it wasn't for the old theme still avalible down below....i absolutely could not find what i am searching for on this website.

It's difficult to reach the advanced search form using the XDA 2015 theme indeed (I don't know if there's a reason for this...), but you still can use it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
I'm still in the process to find an easy way to go to this form using the xda 2015 theme though. I can't remind where it is located besides from any user's post history (see my screenshots, click on Search Forums)...
In the 2015 theme, the "regular" advanced search is located at the top of EVRY forum index page. Just click the gear icon next to the search box.
Okay.
This needs to be available at the top of the forums home page and easily identified.
I am not dumb, I am a long time xda user and know I'm not the only one that has struggled to search these forums the last few years.
The "search plus" feature is being thrown in front of us and trying to be forced down our throats but it's awful and it's a project that needs to be abandonned or a choice given at the fourm home portal.

Alternatively, you can use an older xda theme to be able to see a quick link to the advanced search feature on the top of the xda web page.
