Desire 816G Dual Sim - Move apps to SD and Software Update - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I do not know very much about HTC devices so I'll ask here.
A friend of mine has a HTC Desire 816G Dual Sim with the official 4.4.2 on it.
For some reason, there are no menus on the device to move apps to SD card. We can confirm that the phone lists the card as available.
However, in the App Manager, the "On SD" Tab is not there and on all apps, the "Move to SD" button is missing entirely.
I've tried looking around the HTC Support site but only found a guide for the 816 Dual Sim without the G. On the support page for the 816G, the above guide is missing.
Does this mean they have disabled this function for this device entirely for some reason? Would this mean a custom rom or at least root is necessary to enable the function?
Another question I have is about the software update. Google gives me very conflicting information. There's this article claiming there should have been a 5.0.1 update in Q3 2015, however on the device, there are no updates visible. Additionally, HTC Sync manager does not even recognize the device as a phone when I plug it in.
Can someone with more experience with HTC phones please shed some light on this confusion? Thank you very much for your time!

In regards to SD card apps, I don't remember what I was using for that on 4.4.2, but I am almost certain that it was possible natively on the 5.x update which was officially available and still is on HTC's website as an official firmware download. I am not allowed to post external links, but if you Google search "HTC official firmware download" it should be on the first page. I am not sure if yours is the same band/whatever as mine (mine has the dual sim slot but I believe my carrier disabled it) so I would do a bit more searching around on the forums before just flashing that willy-nilly.
Otherwise, if you can achieve root, there is Link2SD which is a fantastic app that lets you move a ton of stuff to the SD card that I highly recommend and use currently on my Desire 816 running 6.0.1.

T-Mobile's botched Froyo update...

Ok - as some people will know, TMob pushed the OTA in September.
Initially things seemed ok, but people spotted those pesky german apps that came down as well, so alarm bells started ringing.
For me anyway, the Market doesn't work as it should either - there are quite a few apps I've paid for which now don't show up on the market.
Also (and I'm not sure if this was OTA related) my gmail contacts went to crap, so I ended up doing a factory reset.
I think there may be other foibles that have come over by having the german version installed - never mind the space taken up by those useless apps.
So, the question I have is this - what have people managed to do about it, other than doing the usual debrand, or root solutions.
Has anyone contacted T Mobile yet to see what they have to say about it?
It's a real pain in the ass. I should probably debrand and be done with it, but I don't really want to lose my warranty, just in case...
man debrand and root, install a pre-rooted 2.10 add a2sd+ and UVOC v3 kernel and you won't look behind
I use, a lot, the wifi hotspot, and usb tether option.
2.1 doesn't have these does it?
i meant the official HTC WWE firmware numbered 2.10, its the second and latest WWE stock froyo release (the first was 2.09)
i had t-mobile desire myself and i've debranded it, just make sure you always have a goldcard when you debrand and update
hamdir - where can I get this?
Shipped Roms doesn't appear to list it...
Yes they do...
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe
You'll need a gold card to flash it, though
Ok - not sure how I missed that then.
I had actually started prepping my phone for doing a debrand, so my sim is already goldcarded I think. (ie I used the goldcard utility etc, and the program said it had created.) That said though, I didn't format the card first before going through the routine of creating the goldcard - should I have done?
I figured the card is already formatted, as it's an 8gb card - ie not a stock microsd, so in order to use it initially, I would have had to have formatted it anyway.
How do I get the kernel and radio then?
Are they part of the Rom you've posted?
So, will I have problems with this goldcard?

Recently I moved from apple to Android and few week back I got my SGS3 1747m 16GB on Rogers, I did Root and CWM Recovery v5..5.0.4and did played around to get the feeling with its functionality. I did installed few apps and I found the storage memory issue.
First I treid to move some apps to SDCARD but it failed and says that device does not support, I was told that by installing customize ROM will over come it, but my badlcuk is that being from apple world not sure which ROM best fits Rogers, as I read on XDA that some ROM has issues such as LTE etc etc...
Would appreciate if anyone can help me understand ROM and which one is best for Rogers SGS3 1747M, or is there any other tweak to move apps to SD Card
At present I cannot install any additional apps, my memory status shows 5.98/6.00 i.e. 5.98 used and 6.0 GB available on Emulated SDcard, I do have 32GB External SD card installed.

Hi!
There is no best or worse ROMs, only ROMs that suit a user better than the other one. Everyone has its own preference.
So I suggest you browse the Android development forum (for stock-based ROMs) and the Original Android development forum (for AOSP/AOKP-based ROMs). Take some times to take a look at what the devs have done with their ROMs, look at screenshots, and read the original post for the ROM and the last posts of the topics to get the lastest infos about bugs and incompatibilities. You might find a ROM you prefer for whatever reason.

Can't move apps to SD in stock. BUT you can move your pictures and videos to SD. Or just get rid of some of those pesky over bloating apps that you think you may need some time down in the unknown future but your not sure when but it could come in handy to "SAMSUNG," another apple user.

UK - HTC One M8 from Three - Flashing vanilla stock

Hi guys,
Long time iPhone user converted to android with the new HTC One M8.
I have recently purchased the HTC One M8 from my local Three store. Now the phone has a three splash screen and limited bloatware.
I understand that updates to android can be delayed as they are pushed via three.
What would be the general procedure to flash/update the phone to:
1. Remove three splash screen and associated bloatware to keep it as if it was bought simfree.
2. Would the current custom roms available achieve the above and be compatible with UK handset?

Hi,
i'm also on three, should receive mine on monday so I can't confirm for certain. But if my memory serves me correctly, the cid and mid must match the stock rom that you are trying to flash. So at this time you won't be able to flash the newest unbranded stock firmware. This will require s-off. However i can highly recommend unlocking through htcdev and flashing a custom rom. Android revolution hd is an excellent choice for your htc device and will be fine on your handset.
Hi pheonixsingh, I also have a HTC One M8 from three. I can confirm that flashing a custom ROM will remove the three splash, remove three applications and shortcuts, the phone is fully compatible.
I'd recommend you flash without delay!!!

Thanks for the prompt replies!
I think I will go down the route of flashing the custom rom, however I still have some questions about future updates to the custom rom, how would I go about updating my phone?
My biggest concern is everytime I have to update I may lose my data or personal setup as I will have to wipe the phone and install the new version? Is this the case or am I misunderstood and updates can be done via PC/OTA whereby all your personal apps/settings/data is intact?
When updating ROMs, on most occasions you can retain your application data by not formatting the user/data partitions. However when the changes are significant the author may recommend a full wipe.
The first time you root and install a custom ROM, you will lose all data on your internal sd card so back everything up on your PC or external SD card.
After you unlock (S-OFF) your phone for the first time you will never be asked to format your sdcard, which contains camera pics or any other files you've placed. You'll only lose applications which you can download from the play store again. For me it's never been an issue when I owned a Nexus 4 and 5 I used to hop between ROMs daily.

I
I have one of these on 3 the only thing is the splash screen. Any idea where I can get a copy of the stick firmware
The custom firmwares are all well and good, however when a new base comes along, which happened often on the One (M7), carrier phones i.e. 3, would sometimes need to wait for them to issue the official update, as the base firmware is different on the WWE rom. Hopefully we will have S-OFF soon and then that won't be an issue for a lot of us.
I have come from Samsung and the nexus. So is it not as simple as flashing the stock unbranded firmware

Freedom Mobile - Stock RUU - Wifi Calling?

Hello,
I am currently with Freedom Mobile, but my phone was purchased through Rogers, has the open Network Bands to use the Freedom network, and a new P6 Freedom Mobile SIM Card. My phone is also running as HTC_001.
Before modifying my phone and having to re-do everything I may have done in the past:
Can anyone on either Freedom Mobiles network with their stock RUU confirm they have the Wifi Calling option and it works?
To be able to use services of a carrier, like WiFi calling etc, you MUST be using a firmware that came from that carrier. If freedom issue a specific firmware for the m9 you must use it. If they don't and their phones come "network unlocked/debranded", ie using the 401 firmware, then you should be able to access the WiFi etc on any device. Another example is if you want to use tmobile features then you need a tmobile firmware.
So the question you need to find the answer to is "does freedom carrier have a branded firmware for the m9".
You are correct. Based on my research earlier, I came across that same conclusion.
I think the best/only way to test this however, is a) if someone has a latest version of their branded firmware and can check this or b) I get a TWRP restore and install this on my phone (I assume this is possible and not IMEI restricted) or c) I find another way to get to a stock firmware.
I changed my CID back to the Freedom Mobile one and downloaded the stock TWRP backup from the old Canadian Stock ROM thread, but it is either too large or possibly too old and incompatible with my phone.
I had to use ADB commands through computer to restore, and it looked like it would accept. However, the computer was stuck at "unlock phone screen to continue" and TWRP said "MTP enabled."
Those backups are most likely too old. You can try to find a suitable RUU on easy-firmware or you need to contact llabtoofer's RUU service since at the moment there is no freely available RUU for your phone. The links can be found in the FAQ of the ReadMe thread.

Just a quick update. I ended up aborting this "project" of mine.
Despite using Mac OS, encountering corrupt zip files and other files issues where I would get an 22 RU_HEADER_ERROR, I ended up finding my biggest issue.
My MID was set to OPJA10000, instead of 0PJA10000. This issue caused multiple hours of frustrations. I have now flashed my phone back to stock 4.28.401.3. I will most likely have to reinstall TWRP and restore my previous backup.
On another note, is anyone else unable to find the HTC Mail app in Google Play store? Mine crashes every time I try to reply to emails or create a new one. Google Play Store on the computer shows my M9 is not compatible.
Get rid of Google Chrome. I don't know what's exactly the reason but current chrome versions break the HTC Mail app.

Same for me. Not compatible.
Just an update to this.
They released a new version of HTC Mail v10.70.1031252.
Based on quick trials, this has resolved the recent issues regarding HTC Mail and Google Chrome being at the latest version, regarding crashing when creating a new email or replying, but I have not tested it extensively.
I know this should be a new thread with a proper title instead of piggybacking on an old one, so if a mod can create one (or prefers I do), that would be great.

Need Firmware for HTC Desire 820u Dual Sim Snapdragon 615 with Playstore

Hello I have an HTC Desire 820u Dual Sim Smartphone. The phone's Android firmware is in Version 4.4.4. I wanted to update it because many applications like ebay didnt work anymore. The model number of the smartphone is OPMG200. I tried to flash it with your instructions to Android 5.1 using TWRP recovery. I have downloaded and tried many recovery images but I couldnt make a successful flashing. I unfortunately didnt make a backup. Now I want a working stock rom for my device that has Google play store and Greek language. Im saying this because i have already downloaded two stock rom files and they were chinese: They didnt have greek language nor Google play store.
