Insane Battery Drain - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

So i installed the RNN 7.1.1 Rom for my Oneplus 3, and its also rooted. Today in class my phone gets insanely hot (Like 40-50C*) And the battery goes from 70% to 40% within half an hour. If anyone knows how to fix this, please help. I've tried a lot of ROMs and none of them seem to give me good battery life. It cant just be the apps draining that much power so quick. Then there is no idea having 6 GB of ram

Well did you do a clean install? Wipe everything and sideload it? Nougat has decent battery right now.

Normally i only Wipe Delvik (i think its called. What TRWP recommends me to) and then restart. But this time if removed everything on it, and installed the RNN rom, and i have this bad battery. I don't know why :/

Try sultanxda CM13-based Marshmallow rom. I tried them all (OB9, OB10, OOS4.0, OOS3.2.8, CM14.1, ...), but this one is just freaking awesome. Smoother than any other rom, perfect battery life and no battery drain issues. I get easily 7h of SOT across 2 days. With Xposed and Android N-Ify it also looks like Nougat.

I just wanna use nougat, and won't it be a bad idea to use CM ROMs now?

Why would that be?
Because cm dead? But the source code isn't and sultan pretty much does all the work on his own
Cheers ?

What ROM do you guys experience best battery with?

Just wondering, what ROMS have you guys tried and genuinely thought "Wow, the battery really is good".
I've been trying Renovate since version 8 and battery on my device has been pretty poor, on AR-HD it's quite regular, don't have any issues with it.
I'm sticking with Sense and haven't tried any other Sense ROMS and that's why I'm asking.
Also not planning to switching to AOSP ever.

Just downloaded it and going to flash it right now, thanks for posting.
I've read in the thread an update is coming though, any idea what the changes/fixes will be?
I think ARHD V9.7.2 have more stable and better battery performance to JB ARHD 16!
I have over heat issue with that!

User selectable tweaks, aroma installer and De sensed option among many more .

I used ViperX for a long time. That has always given me the best battery life. I've even been able to get up to 6h of screen on time with heavy internet use.
If you're looking for a JB sense ROM, I had great battery life on both InsertCoin and OrDroid. Nowhere near ViperX, but still good.

Had a PM asking how I manage to get 6 hours of on screen use and thought my reply might help others, so I'm going to post it here too.
"Hey man,
That was with ViperX 2.7.1 running the AOSP theme.
Yeah I've had 6 hours, or near to it, quite a few times now. I actually use the stock kernel included in .zip.
I also desense the rom and mainly use the phone with about 30% brightness. Also, make sure feed sync is switched off in Facebook under the accounts and sync area in the settings because that's an absolute killer. I still have Plume and GMail set to sync almost all the time, but with Facebook on, it totally destroys the battery. If you want to sav even more battery whilst increasing battery life, switch everything to manual sync.
ViperX is an excellent choice. I've used loads of the new JB sense roms and none can compare to ViperX for battery life and the excellent mods included.
Hope this helps."

Worse battery life with KK

Worst fears realised.
The Kit Kat update has delivered drastically worse battery life.
Could often work with 10% per 45 min - 1 hr screen time before on WIFI, that has now gone out of the window.
1 hr 44 min screen time with 68% left now.
That is quite a bit worse I would say.
Anyone else feel the same?
I would rollback, but the camera improvements are just so much better.

I had about 5 hr screen time and almost 2 days of usage. I am using stamina and greenify though since I don't need emails and notifications pushed, I just manually refresh it.
Nope, I just managed 7.5 hours OST on my last charge on WiFi without Stamina Mode, so quite a bit better for me than JB where 5/6 was more usual. Standby power is also noticeably better, averaging ~0.4%/h.
Sadly the KitKat changes make most battery stat apps useless without root now, or I'd suggest you run one to see what's up on your end.

Cant find anything that stands out. Going to drain and do a charge from fresh.
Did anyone try to calibrate the battery after flashing?
Calibrating battery gives exact battery reading.
There is no real calibration in android and for everybody pls alow 3-4 full charges before reporting your battery life on kitkat(same when flashing new kernel)
same here.
Done full drain but no change. moreover the phone gets heated quickly..

This is obviously a sign of some rogue process running intensively (compare performance after booting in safe mode to confirm). You should be able to figure out pretty easily which it is from the basic battery stats page, sadly no partial wakeleock listings anymore on non-rooted phones though.

How to boot into safe mode?? sorry I am new here and this is my first android ph )
I have done factory reset>>installed 4.4.2 via PC companion>>full factory reset incl internal storage.. heating problem is somewhat solved.
But it gets heated up when connected to charger..which on JB doesn't happened!! strange..
Draining seems to be normal but takes too much time to charge..
I got a great battery life on kitkat.

It's related to Media Services, if you have Google Music installed, you can stop if from trying to sync. Better Battery Stats is is better than the app you are using, imo.
if you're running on a Android 5.0 rom, go into developer settings and turn off the expiremental nuplayer as well as turn off google now voice recognition and take a look at gsam after a while whether it is still there.

Actually you could have simply ignored it as based on my experience it doesn't have a negative impact on battery life at all. I reduced it and I didn't even see any improvements in battery life at all.
I have it as well and just like Bobbi said, it doesn't seem to be impacting my device's battery life whatsoever. I am actually getting an amazing battery life on GPE whereas I had a horrible one on Sense.

I still have better battery life on sense with elementalx and renovate rom as compared to GPE but its mostly based on my usage of the phone... And the way I use it that day... But the worse battery is AOSP roms, I can barely squeeze out 5hrs of SOT
I believe I may have jinxed my device with the earlier posts. I took the device off the plug at around 1 AM (100%) and did not use it; I woke up around 9 hours later (yes I sleep a lot) and it was 65%!!! I may give Renovate Sense a shot since ViperOne's battery life on my device isn't great.

I tried installing RENOVATE as a secondary on MultiROM but it doesn't work. I configure it in AROMA but once it reaches the actual installation stage it just doesn't give any output or percentages and immediately says "installation finished". Any ideas on what I could do at this point? Thanks.

I'm running Renovate rom at the moment with not much issues. I dont use multi-rom (never used before) so I'm not sure why it wont install. Why dont you just install as a normal rom like me? Everything will be fine, i assure you
If you want great battery, install renovate with elementalX and you're good:good:

marshmallow will drain the battery?

I have at home 2 g4 to upgrade to Marshmallow. in the 2 battery is spent faster than lollipop. you know why and how to fix it?
Up?
Enviado desde el GamePad de la WiiU
What to fix?
At least post some details so people can start thinking about some resolution.
What's draining your battery? Misbehaving apps? Apps not updated to MM? etc.
Terrible battery life on Lg G4 after marshmallow update! Help!!!
I'm very angry and very unsatisfied with this update. I ruined a perfect phone! From 20 h/ 4 h sot to come 12h/3h sot is a big difference. I was expecting a better battery life but I get the opposite. In the meantime I make some research and I noticed that the biggest drain is on mobile data ,especially background. Gsam battery monitor chart show me a thing called " system logd" on top. This thing is on 35% and android system or play services only 7%. Wow!!! On WiFi is there too but something like 8-10%. OK...I said I can rid of this... After 3 days no way! I clean the cache, factory reset ... Nothing changed. I think is a misbehaving app, I go in safe mode...the battery still the same ,location off...the same thing. I don't know what to do...root my phone? I hate marshmallow
Off topic: is the last time I make updates. Is the second time I break a perfect device with this, first a flawless HTC m8 running KitKat with lollipop, now my lg with marshmallow.
/me too.
Same apps as before updating to M. No changes except battery draining fast. Before update at this time (12pm Spain) usually 80-85% after full charge during night, now 65% with same use, same settings...
you guys are doing something very wrong, my H815 battery life is insane, with heavy use, I cannot run down the battery in a 16 hour day! - I go to bed and the phone is still on over 40% - running stock newest marshmallow 20B with a few tweaks

If you kill most of not needed Google apps, you're pretty fine with overall lifetime. See screenshot - it's awesome & I am using 20B.

As I said earlier. 2 G4's in house consumption has increased. 1 became normal update, on the other with full wipes before and after installing marshmallow and reinstalling all applications and games.
In the 2 I had to re-lollipop for battery after several cycles, if it is true that improvement but fails even to match the performance they had in lollipop.
In Marshmallo barely exceeded 2 G4 screen 3 hours, with very little lollipop exceeds 5 hours of screen

Fast battery draining

Hello everybody!
So I bought this phone about a week ago, and it is fantastic. I got used to those back buttons really fast, and the performance is pretty good. Not the best, but it's good considering the fact that I had a Galaxy s2 before.
Anyway.
A few days ago I decided to test the battery, so I charged it at 100% and played San Andreas for 30 minutes.
When I checked, it was at 91%. That was pretty good for me.
...
Yesterday morning, I woke up, unplugged it, and started browsing 9gag.
I was shocked to see that the battery was around 85% after only 10 to 15 minutes of browsing.
I thought it was the app, but when I checked the battery stats, it only consumed 1%.
You can see in the screenshot that the screen is taking a lot of battery.
I always keep the brightness at 40 - 50%, never at 100%.
I also don't have any "memory cleaning" apps or crap like that.
So. What can I do?

if you want good battery life
first start with the software:
root the device install greenify and amplify
if you've changed roms or dirty flashed ones just remove the current one and reinstall it i prefer cloudy 2.5 cause it's awesome with some basic simple kernal
you can underclock the cpu and gpu
remove useless apps
try changing the battery if it 2 years old with a genuine one from LG
for me am rocking cloudy 2.5 with greenify and amplify installed with 90% brightness and wifi always on and it get's me 4:30 to 5h of SOT
good luck mate
Well I just bought it and I don't want to lose the warranty.
I know that I can root it and flash a better rom, but I am wondering if I can do something with this one.

Simple answer: No.
Long answer: No without root you're not going to come out anywhere.
And judging from your posts / questions you don't bring the skills necessary to customize and debloat
(no offense but it takes time and is really easy to mess up resulting in the opposite as in more battery drain)
your stockrom properly that 's why it would be simpler to just flash an well prepared Rom instead.
Simple solution: 1. Root it, 2. Install TWRP, 3. Backup, 4. Wipe, 5. Flash Fulmics or Cloudy.
After that you have a solid base (a properly debloated rom) you can search for guides regarding Maximizing Battery life.
Or you could just skip flashing Fulmics / Cloud and move straight to this point and keep your Stock Rom.
Anyway - root is a must have for getting battery under control (and there are countless threads regarding battery savings around).
Cheers
Thanks for the answer. I am going to root it and flash a proper rom.

Okay, I am back again.
So I tried a lot of methods to root the device, but no luck. I've the 855 international model with lollipop.
Apparently, this model is patched. Can someone help me out with this?
