For those of you that would like the fingerprint sensor as home button + other options, you should try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep For me, works good so far.
Ty this is awesome now. Single press brings me home. Double expands toggles and swipe open notification panel. No need to reach to the top of the screen anymore.
Awesome, this works perfectly. A tap brings me home then I press it again to turn off the screen.
Some times it just stops working and this is very annoying for me =Z
Works fine for me.

I'm sorry that some of you have problems with the app I recommended. For me works good, but I have only the option as home enabled. Maybe some of the other options are causing problems. Uninstall and maybe do a restart if not fixed.
Sent from my XT1635-02 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I also only had the home option enabled. Uninstalling helped, restarting (several times) did not... I don't actually miss it though, maybe because my times with Samsung and a physical home button are so long gone that I am not so much tempted to use the scanner for that function anyway...
For the app to work, I have to have fingerprint security enabled? And that requires an unlock configuration (pin, pattern)?
Works so good for me, would be great if we have a form of hide the navbar and only use the sensor.

The new Moto G5 has the option to hide the nav bar and replaces it with gestures over the sensor. I think it's likely that with a future soft update, we will benefit from it also :good:

Can you post a screen shot of your app settings? Or explain your settings so I can replicate? I got the home function to work but to unlock the device it always asks for the pin unlock code after using the fingerprint scanner.

Super. I recommend this app to anybody with a fingerprint sensor. It works perfectly, very easy to use. And best of all, it's free. But I strongly hope you buy one or 2 premium add ons and encourage the dev

Sweet, can't wait to get a GS6 Edge (128GB of course) and will definitely get this app AND pay for the premium add-on's. Devs that put forth the effort to support devices deserve to get paid for their work.
So we will still have to use - FingerSecurity App
i thought S6/Edge will have this function built in

Awesome app thanks. Have brought the theme unlock. Very nicely done.
Cool app that worked well for me but IMO it's kind of overkill if you already have your screen lock set to thumb scan. This could be handy if you don't use the thumb unlock for security and just set this up for individual apps.
Used this on my s5 it's useful for individual apps

Well yeah I'd like to hide them. It's kind of better for me when I'm with friends or friends like to play with phone they don't need too see my whatsapp Icon or something else. You know what I mean ?
This is such a great phone! I'm continued to be surprised by little features here and there.
Here are some of my favorite surprises that I've recently discovered.
(*) Pressing the home button three times, will reduce the size of the display. Similar to the reachability feature on iPhone.
(*) The calendar icon actually shows the current date. And, the clock icon actually shows the current time. Love how Samsung is paying attention to these little details.

Don't need to wait for Marshmallow, this phone already got "Do Not Disturb."
When taking selfie, touch heart rate sensor in the back can also snap picture.
oh it works.. tks.
The current date and clock doesn´t shows for me? I did on my Note 4 if I´m not mistaken......
You dont need to touch the camera sensor. Tap in the screen anywhere in selfie mode and it will snap a shot
Here's another one. .. in camera selfie mode just say "cheese" or "smile" ?
Sent from my SM-G928F using Tapatalk
Or "shoot"!
Also, if the phone is face down you can ignore calls and respond with a canned sms by pressing on the fingerprint sensor.

It only shows it the stock theme. If you theme the phone with a different theme from the theme store it doesn't show any more.
In selfie mode if you wave at the camera, it recognizes your hand then shows a 3 second countdown before taking the shot. (You need to enable this in the camera settings)

Thanks! I also noted that using Nova it doesn´t work. But it´s not a big deal
Seems like you can also get the floating apps like you can do on the Note series, simply launch an app like youtube, then swipe from the top corner to the middle, and there you have it, a floating app.
Great thread, stuff I wouldn't have found for years on my own!
Instead of the 3 home button tap for one handed mode you can reduce any app to be floating by dragging from the top very left or right of the screen down. Not from the top edge but the top of the screen if that makes sense.

I use nova launcher and set a double tap gesture to launch a screen off app. I wish using only fingerprint to unlock or wake was an option
You could also just put a shortcut for the screen off app on the home screen.
Is there a way to do this while keeping the pixel launcher? I tried a couple of apps, but it required me to put in my pattern unlock when waking the phone with the fingerprint reader.

After updating to Pie, I found out that the fingerprint gestures are missing. Searched in settings and found the swipe fingerprint section but it seems to be empty. Any ideas?

Dude mine still works but like it extremely buggy but the option is removed from the “gestures” area of the settings menu. What I mean about “extremely buggy” it doesn’t do it every time, so let’s say if I swipe down on the sensor it will pop up the notification drawler about 2 minutes later.
But there's something really weird, look. If you type in the search settings bar, the opting is there. But when pressed, it kinda disappears!
Same thing is happening with the battery percentage. If you type "percentage" the option seems to be there. But press it and it's not.
You can see the caps proof below.
The main question still remains. Do you think the ones who updated with the Indonesia VPN will ever get a fix via OTA for this mess?

I probably explained myself poorly. On Pie, swipe to the right on the fingerprint sensor (it used to be swipe down on the Oreo)) Onhe first swipe, you get high level notification overview with one line of quick settings, on the second swipe, you get the details. Swipe to the left and the notification bar rolls up. Not sure why not included in the gesture settings but the functionality is just there.
I am not getting this. How did you enable it?

Just to be clear. You are swiping sideways, right? Oreo had swipe down, Pie has swipe left/right.
