Is it normal to have reduced speeds while using Wifi tether app?

I am using the Wifi tether app, but seem to be getting reduced speeds for whatever reason. When I run a speed test on my Evo I typically get 1+ MBps for download, but when I run a speed test on my computer I get something like .3 MBps (sometimes it peaks a bit higher, but rarely.)
I am running on a roaming network if that matters, and have rooted for the app via unrEVOked.
Are there some sort of settings that I need to change?

I also seem to get long periods of what I can only call my data timing out where it will not let me upload or download. It goes away on it's own after a while though.

Easy tether seems to work fine....

[Q] Slow internet connection after updating to Gingerbread

I have an unbranded DHD. So far, I have been running it on 1.72 without root and it was more or less ok having only a random restart from time to time.
I s-offed my phone and installed the latest Gingerbread ROM. Unfortunately, the internet connection over 3G is extremely slow. After checking it using SpeedTest I am getting results of only 100Kbps Download, but Upload is ok at more than 4Mbps.
I have checked my missus'es SIM in my phone and it's exactly the same (prior to that I was getting over 5Mbps Download speeds on her iPhone 3G) so I know it's not some restriction on my account.
I have even downgraded Radio to the old version from 1.72, but the speed was still as bad.
Has anybody experienced this problem? Is there any fix for that?
I shall only add that the phone itself works brilliantly with no problems in making/receiving calls or using the Internet over WiFi.

Have you limitation of DOWNload of data in your telephonic rate? Probably you was consumed the all the MB...
IN MY COUNTRY when you consumes the all the contracted data your download speed downs to the slowest speed (128kb )

No, I have an unlimited plan and as I said, I checked my girlfriends SIM as well. First on iPhone it showed more than 4Mbps download, and 5 minutes later 100Kbps.
I did Downgrade to older radio (+RIL) and it didn't help either

No internet help!!!

I recently flashed my phone to metro pcs and now my web browser wont work. I cant still access the market and youtube app but my internet web browser wont load any pages. I even downloaded Dolphin browser and still no fix. Please help. Its getting very annoying. Thank.

I would flash back to Sprint. Works.

sprint's network is down, no 3g or 4g or even roaming on vz 3g works

I'm also having issues with both Sprint's 3G and 4G in St. Paul, MN. It shows that I have signal, but no data is able to load (including google voice text messages).

my 4g is back up at in stl, haven't checked 3g
yeah, had full signals but data could not get through
I suspect they were doing some network upgrades for the iphone (probably edge routers) and it went wonky.

Google Play Store painfully slow on Wifi, super fast on 4G

I basically can't download any apps over wifi, they crawl at less than 50kbps. If i turn wifi off they will pretty much download instantly. I did a speed test on wifi and 4g and while the 4g was surprisingly faster, they were still both downloading at over 15 mbps. There is no problem with anything but google play. No other wifi problems with any other devices on my network. Some google searching showed me others are having this issue but nobody had a solution.
edit: appears it was just a temporary hiccup after flashing a new rom. it went back to normal on its own

[Q] need help with google play

I am having a problem with Google play downloading very slow on only my WiFi. When I switch to 4G its fast and downloads great but when I use WiFi its super slow. Its not my WiFi speed because I have 60 Mbps download and 5 Mbps Upload.
I tried wiping the Google play services and the play store and signed out and signed back in and changed my router and it still is slow. Can somebody please help me with this issue.
