Vzw phone so no root access.
Solid Explorer, the new one, works and shows path of : /mnt/media_rw/0EB0-0FF1. It also asks for permissions and you can successfully grant them. Yet you cannot see this folder/drive while exploring /mnt. It creates it's own shortcut and browsing is fine that way..
Neutron sees the drive and tries the get permissions but you never get to grant them.
Google Player (stock), Player Dreams, Jetaudio, Hiby and Kamerton do not see the drive at all.
Has anyone had success with any player accessing OTG drives?

Exact same here, I'd like to see that sorted asap, so anyone please help us!
Total Commander does see the drive, and you can start a video stored on the USB drive, but, you can not start the NEXT video from the contrrols (you know the >>| button). It works like a charm on my Alcatel Idol 4s :good:, but on Moto Z Play nonono... Both run 6.0.1..... sooo....?!?!

Total Commander is better as it can browse a large drive better than FX, FX can launch a media too (to Neutron that is and no folder play). These are the only 2 I could find.
Do people know you can use real hard drives on OTG?
otg has stopped working alltogether..... think I need to return the phone for repair or swap.... sigh....

Hi all,
I’ve googled my problem but cant find a solution sadly.
I am using PDAViet.net’s DVH_V25_NoBS and when I try to add my music to Windows Media Player, it finds all the tracks but then freezes at the ‘Adding files..’ part.
I’ve resetting and so on but it will never get pass that stage. Right now I always have to listen to my music via Menu > Open File.
All help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Jason
i had this also. i dont know were it comes, any special mark or something but i format my card new and now it works.
Use HTC Audio manager. For me its much better. I dont use WMP for music.
delete the hidden folder on your sd card msmetadata, i think you can only do it from the phone itself
then update your library again, you may want to plug it into power and walk away for like 10mins.
i agree with using audio manager but media player can save your playlists on the card rather than the phone
thanks for the replies.
which HTC audio player are you guys using which is hassle free.
mind posting the .cab?
many thanks in advance
(BTW, where should one go to look for files like this on the forum? is it in a sticky?)

File Explorer->View Options->View All Files (or View Hidden Files).
Then delete the Storage Card->MSMETADATA directory (yes, the entire thing).
Then you can Update Library from WMP and all songs should add.
I would like to know if there is any app that can stream music over wireless to my Desire.
I have my Pc in one room and a stereo with a line-in in the living room. So now I would like to be able to get the Mp3s from my PC to my desire so that I can hear it in the living room. Ideally I would like all sounds transferred, Mp3 player, youtube and the beep for incoming messages etc. but I would already be happy if its just the output of the mp3 player (i use winamp).
If I had to I would even install some other mp3 player on my Pc.
Sorry if this was asked before. I searched and did not quite find the answer.
If you have your music folder shared on your LAN, then EStrongs File Explorer is able to stream and play music on your phone.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.estrongs.android.pop
When the application is running, you can see a butten (typically) named "Local" in the top right corner. Press it and select "LAN". Then press menu --> New --> Server to add your music server to the phone. You can the explore the newly added server and stream music directly to your phone.
Of course, EStrongs File Explorer can much more than the above. It is a file explorer first of all. But a good one none the less
Ok, first off: good call on the File Explorer, that is pretty sweet.
Being able to get to all your shared stuff from your phone, top
Just one more question, when it comes to music, i navigate to the folder, click on the song and it plais, but only just that one song. Is there a way to use a number of files or a folder?
or can I make my standard music player on my Desire access a folder somehow?
EStrongs File Explorer is, to my knowledge, only capable of playing one song at the time. If you need playlist support, playing of folder etc., then you will need another program.
The application named EyeconTroller may be a possibility. I, however, have only used it together with a DLNA server (Windowns Media Player, Mezzmo etc) running on the computer where the music files are located. I am not sure if EyeconTroller can access shared folders on the LAN (folders not shared by DLNA).

why not mount the music folder using cifs manager? it will give you transparent file streaming. i've used it to access my movie collection on my laptop.

That application requires root. Not everyone has rooted their phone.
(My phone is rooted, will try out the application)
Have you tried Subsonic (subsonic.org/pages/index.jsp )? With it you can stream music from your PC over the internet, from any web browser. It also has android app.It even can transcode FLAC to mp3.

Look up Jinzora
It's a jukebox server you run on your computer. It's free, easy to set up and although you can access through a browser there's a client app in Market

Ideally I'd like something that supports photos - it looks as if Jinzora doesn't at the moment?
Hi everyone,
i just switched from an Iphone to the One X and i'm super happy with the hone, much better than the Iphone in most departments. There are only two things that bother me right now and i was wondering if there are solutions for them or at least upcoming software mods:
1. i have a great headset, the Sony XBA2-ip, with integrated Iphone controls, which I really want to keep. Right now I've gotten the play/pause button to work by downloading the headset button app. However the volume up/down buttons dont work and I cant seem to find a n app that will enable them. Is it impossible to make these buttons work?
2. The One X is a great phone for watching HD videos, esp. with Dice player. However I'm limited to 4GB file sizes when i transfer. I realize this is a limitation of the FAT32 formatting of the internal memory. What i wanted to ask was if there are ROM mods that allow to bypass that limit?
Thanks in advance.
I don't know the head set your referring to, however try some different players like power amp, winamp and n7 player and see what results you get, failing that a mod could be created but specifically for your headset i'm guessing that it won't happen so I would guess that there isn't a way around it, unless theres an app to map buttons to controls from within the device, u might get lucky, google it.
Not too sure about the 4GB limit, personally i've never had to transfer something so big onto a phone, if it's one file then i can only assume it's HD content, what i would do is split the file into smaller chunks using video editing software at least until a work around is in place.
Welcome to android by the way, it is better by the way More freedom, something apple knows very little about.
Also depends on the file systems that are natively supported by your PC's OS. Some custom ROMs will probably try try to format the internal storage into ext4 but it's not natively supported in Windows XP I think. By that I mean if you plug it into your pc, it won't recognize it as a USB Storage. I think Windows 7 supports ext4, but I think you need some driver updates or something. Ext4 has a much larger file size limit
I think PowerAMP is the most powerful one with lots of options and wouldn't be surprised to see it supporting those volume keys.
I'm wondering about 4GB limit too, hoping there is a workaround or maybe custom ROMs will solve it. Most of my files are 4-9GB in size.
But as long as I'm in range of my network, DicePlayer plays them brilliantly over the network, I use ES File Explorer to map my LAN drives.
For players that are not able to play from networked drives, the solution is to use CIFSManager which mounts networked drives as a local subfolder, fooling player apps into thinking they are playing local files. DicePlayer doesn't need that workaround.
Thanks for all the info guys. I will try these solutions and will report what happens. Hopefully once custom ROMs start popping up many of these problems will be resolved, esp. the 4GB limit, it must something many users are struggling with...
just testing this theory but it should be possible to take the file that is bigger than 4GB, use a program such as winrar to split it into 2 or more files so that they are small enough for transfer, then use unrar from the play store to unpack them.
A long method, but a decent one when given the limitation of a fat filesystem.
Hopefully i'll confirm whether this works as soon as i've had chance to test it.
EDIT: I realise this won't work unless there is a media player that can play files straight from part-rars... don't know of any with this feature.
An alternative would be to split your video file into so many parts and just put them in a queue when watching.
Thanks for the extra info.
FYI, I tried different music players (DBpwoeramp, Winamp) and headphone apps and none of them even see my volume buttons. I did some more reading on the forums and it seems no one has ever found a solution for this. it sucks cause my headphones are great...
On the 4GB file size front no dice yet but I remain more hopeful that it will be fixed once people start tinkering with the file system.
i dont know if it will work but archos fans forum has a program that seems to split hd movies that will play

im gona give it a shot when i have a few moments spare.
Hi everyone,
just wanted to update this tread to say i found a partial solution to the headset problem. I downloaded the free Jays app that controls headsets and mapped volume up/down to long keypresses of the main button. It's not perfect but at least i regain most of the missing functionality, and i dont have to change my headset (as i mentioned I really like the Sony headset).
Now if the ROM developers could find a solution to the 4GB limit (fingers crossed), I'd be all set.
great find on that headset app, i was about to buy headset control but jays is free!
ok, i really have the lg optimus L9 from tmobile. but no forum yet for the L9 so here i am. just got the phone and am new to andriod, have ice cream.
just want to play a frickin mp3 and avi files that are on the sd card. if i use file manager and naviagate to avi video, i see a small thumbnail. but when i try to click it i get 'try again after scanning media file'. no idea how to scan media files. navigate to mp3 and click get a choice of google play music or music player. music player gives me again "try again after scanning media files'. now all of a sudden the google media works for my mp3 - no idea why.
guess i am trying to understand how to scan media files. and which program will use the library, google play music or music player. and how can i play video. i am ok with even purchasing a player as i really like to play just about any format without having to convert. what is the player out there that will play the most formats?
thanks
For media searching use the SD Sync app from market. Works well.
where is the best place to go to download apps?
Google Play ofcourse
ok. guess i am trying to figure for now
1) if i copy a media file to my storage card, how can i play it right away, without having to update my whole library. i want to download, point an applicaiton to it an play it.
2) what is the video player that can play the most formats?
1)Open the file with file manager. I prefer the root explorer.
2)LG stock player supports everything, at least no problems even with .mkv packed files.
Oh, you got the L9. Not sure about yours but must be same i think
Also if the file was downloaded from web, you can select/open in directly in the download manager.
Just Figured this out M'Self
OK, just had same issue (same 'system message') trying to watch videos using the built-in Video Player. Maybe it was the first time I used it, but I was actually trying to figure out how to use the new 'Q-Slide' feature to watch a video while doing something else on the phone.
I actually pulled up the manual PDF (downloaded from LG, here), then <CTRL+F> (searched the document for similar system mssgs), and got a 'hit' on Page 49 of the OEM manual (my search, BTW, was 'media files'--'scan for' never found it).
You have to let the system do this for the 'FileShare' app also (I'm sure it's about 'indexing'), so I did, and it worked.
Not so much a 'system error', as a little 'systemic quirk' (much like a cosmic queef)
See attached JPG.
^ hi..my question is simple and yet I've searched everywhere with no luck...can I change the wonders of nature video on my tablet with say a video of my own....?
There are many ways, but one way is:
Connect your tab to a Mac or pc via usb and use file manager / Windows explorer to drag and drop files. You can put them in the Videos folder or create one. I don't know all the formats the built in app will play. You can also get BS player or MX player or vlc player from the play store. Those support a lot of formats
To delete the wonder of nature video, you can open the gallery app, select it by long press, and delete.
