Hi everyone,
i just switched from an Iphone to the One X and i'm super happy with the hone, much better than the Iphone in most departments. There are only two things that bother me right now and i was wondering if there are solutions for them or at least upcoming software mods:
1. i have a great headset, the Sony XBA2-ip, with integrated Iphone controls, which I really want to keep. Right now I've gotten the play/pause button to work by downloading the headset button app. However the volume up/down buttons dont work and I cant seem to find a n app that will enable them. Is it impossible to make these buttons work?
2. The One X is a great phone for watching HD videos, esp. with Dice player. However I'm limited to 4GB file sizes when i transfer. I realize this is a limitation of the FAT32 formatting of the internal memory. What i wanted to ask was if there are ROM mods that allow to bypass that limit?
Thanks in advance.
I don't know the head set your referring to, however try some different players like power amp, winamp and n7 player and see what results you get, failing that a mod could be created but specifically for your headset i'm guessing that it won't happen so I would guess that there isn't a way around it, unless theres an app to map buttons to controls from within the device, u might get lucky, google it.
Not too sure about the 4GB limit, personally i've never had to transfer something so big onto a phone, if it's one file then i can only assume it's HD content, what i would do is split the file into smaller chunks using video editing software at least until a work around is in place.
Welcome to android by the way, it is better by the way More freedom, something apple knows very little about.
Also depends on the file systems that are natively supported by your PC's OS. Some custom ROMs will probably try try to format the internal storage into ext4 but it's not natively supported in Windows XP I think. By that I mean if you plug it into your pc, it won't recognize it as a USB Storage. I think Windows 7 supports ext4, but I think you need some driver updates or something. Ext4 has a much larger file size limit
I think PowerAMP is the most powerful one with lots of options and wouldn't be surprised to see it supporting those volume keys.
I'm wondering about 4GB limit too, hoping there is a workaround or maybe custom ROMs will solve it. Most of my files are 4-9GB in size.
But as long as I'm in range of my network, DicePlayer plays them brilliantly over the network, I use ES File Explorer to map my LAN drives.
For players that are not able to play from networked drives, the solution is to use CIFSManager which mounts networked drives as a local subfolder, fooling player apps into thinking they are playing local files. DicePlayer doesn't need that workaround.
Thanks for all the info guys. I will try these solutions and will report what happens. Hopefully once custom ROMs start popping up many of these problems will be resolved, esp. the 4GB limit, it must something many users are struggling with...
just testing this theory but it should be possible to take the file that is bigger than 4GB, use a program such as winrar to split it into 2 or more files so that they are small enough for transfer, then use unrar from the play store to unpack them.
A long method, but a decent one when given the limitation of a fat filesystem.
Hopefully i'll confirm whether this works as soon as i've had chance to test it.
EDIT: I realise this won't work unless there is a media player that can play files straight from part-rars... don't know of any with this feature.
An alternative would be to split your video file into so many parts and just put them in a queue when watching.
Thanks for the extra info.
FYI, I tried different music players (DBpwoeramp, Winamp) and headphone apps and none of them even see my volume buttons. I did some more reading on the forums and it seems no one has ever found a solution for this. it sucks cause my headphones are great...
On the 4GB file size front no dice yet but I remain more hopeful that it will be fixed once people start tinkering with the file system.
i dont know if it will work but archos fans forum has a program that seems to split hd movies that will play

Hi everyone,
just wanted to update this tread to say i found a partial solution to the headset problem. I downloaded the free Jays app that controls headsets and mapped volume up/down to long keypresses of the main button. It's not perfect but at least i regain most of the missing functionality, and i dont have to change my headset (as i mentioned I really like the Sony headset).
Now if the ROM developers could find a solution to the 4GB limit (fingers crossed), I'd be all set.
great find on that headset app, i was about to buy headset control but jays is free!

Hi I would like to ask you guys if someone can help me to find a good media player for my XDA II? I would like to ask you also about real player and pocket DivX. When I'm intalling those two applications both ask me ->
would you like to replace the existing file "\Windows\gx.dll" modified on 9/25/2003 with this one? modified on 05/23/2002 then on both installation i pressed "No"(the options are Yes, No, Yes To All, No To All).
So what i would like to ask you is did i choose the right option, because I'm assuming that my existing file is better because it is newer than the file offered by both of the program?
PocketDivx: because when I tried to play the .mpg file under PocketDivx the picture was going very well but there is no sound and also at the end of the clip it makes my XDA II freezing so I have to do reset to be able to get out of that application.
Real Player: Both sound and and picture went well, it just don't play my .mpg file(the same file that I run under PocketDivx)
Is there any player available for XDA II that able to play all type of file?
Regards,
Willy
Try PocketMVP For mpg,mpeg,avi,mp3,ogg,........PocketTV offers extra options for mpeg files .............. 8) As for AMR files , Try Philips platform4 player

Also, it's worth having a look at Beta Player.

Thanks guys for your participation
Well... as I'm a new user of XDA II, could you please guide me how to install the last version of Beta player step by step? and could you please also let me know which file should i run as i'm going to use it in XDAII? because I've finished downloading 2 types of beta player the first one is "betaplayer.arm.cabs.STABLE.0.5" but it seems to me they are only bunch of ".cab" files without any setup.
and the second one is "betaplayer.setup.STABLE.0.5.exe"
The "betaplayer.*.cabs.*.zip" - Contains all the install .cab files for different types of device (arm,mips,sh3). No PC or ActiveSync needed. Cab file should be launched on the device itself.
The "betaplayer.setup.STABLE.0.5.exe"Standalone install for PocketPC or HPC devices. It should be launched on the PC when the PDA is connected via ActiveSync.
so which one should I choose to use(which one better?)?
Regards,
Willy
I would use the stable version otherwise you may have glitches with the beta release.

Just run the .exe. It contains the same Beta Player version as the .cab, just wrapped up in a PC installer. The .cab version is for PocketPC owners who have no PC (Apple users, for example).

Dear Forum,
Thanks for your help I appreaciate it so much. Keep on Rock'in Here and update this Topic if you have any updates or news about the multimedia player.

is there anything like winamp for ppc 2003 w/ equalizer, etc.
http://www.winampaq.com/new/index.html
it's nice but only support mp3 so not wma and such
For mp3 and ogg...
have a look at MortPlayer. IMHO it's the best audio player available: skinable, easy to use and best of it: it's free!
For video I use the above mentioned beta player.
Greetings,
BGK
the best player is the betaplayer...
Also you may want to take a look at Pocket Music.. It supports MP3, WMA, OGG and more.. It also has 10-band equalizer, skin-changing ability, great-looking GUI and it's free! Below I include the PocketMusic app and some skins (including Winamp look-alike)
I forgot to mention (very sorry) for skin-changing ability you need the PMF Feature pack (shareware). It features additional features like skin-changing, saving, switching between EQ presets and more.. But I think PocketMusic alone is enough.. Anyway here's the file
Questions about BetaPlayer
Dear Forum,
Hi guys! I would like to ask you about the beta player. When the first time I installed the BetaPlayer there was a question about wether i would like to intall it to the main memory or storage card, I chose the storage card instead of the main memory because I thought by installing it to my storage memory it will save my main memory. I ran the program many times and it went well I'm satisfied with that program, until this afternoon I add couple of video clips into my storage card by ejecting my storage card from the XDAII and plug it into my laptop's SD slot then copy and paste it from my laptop(I did not use the crade to copy the video clips) to the storage card. When I'm done copying those files I clicked on savely remove device then I pulled out the SD card from my laptop then plug it into my XDAII then I tried run the Betaplayer but the XDAII is freezing with the processing sign or icon appear on the screen, I could not even turn the XDAII off so I had to unlplug the battery from the XDAII to turn it off. Turned the XDA back on and tried to run the betaplayer again but it didn't do anything(no reaction at all) so I decided to remove that program from the XDAII then I installed it again like the first time I did but it did not ask me again wether I want to install it to the main memory or to the storage device.
So what I would like to ask you guys is, Is it good idea to install program to the storage card instead of main memory?
Regards,
Willy
Problem with Beta Player0.5 stable
Dear Forum,
Hi all! I would like to ask you beta player user. I'm using it and i feel satisfy with that player, so far I just have one problem; sometimes it is freezing just like that, for instance this morning i played a long recorded sound with XDA II program(Album), but because the sound is too long so the XDA turned off automatically, so i turned it back on then check my battery(because i thought my battery was out at the first time), I figured out that my batter was fine so then I decided to run the beta player then i cliked the open file, then I clicked on the video clip file, suddenly the betaplayer automatically closed(the screen went to the main screen), so I tried to run it again from the tool bar of the XDA main screen but what happened was there was no reaction at all, just like nothing clicked(I've tried many times but the result still the same-no reaction at all, the betaplayer did not run at all). I checked on the running program list and did not find beta player on that list. So I had to do the soft reset(I cliked the reset button on the bottom of the PDA) to be able to run it back again. this problem has happened about 3 times since the first time I started to use this program(last thursday). and i also tried to run a video file but the beta player said that "the atimageon is out of memory please try again later or run it with a different application."
Could anyone here help me to tell what is wrong with it? or did I do anything wrong to the beta player?
my beta player is 0.5 stable version
regards,
Willy

Having owned an HD2 for 9 months and struggling to type on it, I decided to try the Touch Pro2 and bought a nice example on eBay. In terms of usability as a phone I find it way better that the HD2, the acoustics and volume are great, it’s comfortable to hold, and finally I can type properly. I also bought this phone for the TV-out that the HD2 lacks. However, the video playback is terrible!
I have been through the forums here, tried all the tweaks and fixes, tried every setting in TCPMP/Core, tried disabling Sense (which makes no “sense”) but still videos which play fine on the HD2 are barely playing at all on the TP2 - jerky, low frame rate. I don’t want to have to re-encode everything; I download DIVX TV episodes, around 350MB each, and just play them directly on the HD2. I realise the HD2 has a much faster processor, but I’m sure my old Diamond played these videos just fine too.
I have tried the latest stock HTC (unbranded) ROM that the phone came with, with Core Player, and also tried the latest Energy ROM with the built in TCPMP – no difference. All I see on the forums is that it’s a known problem with the TP2 and WM6.5. But I can’t believe that all the loyal TP2 users on this forum are just happy to accept the virtual lack of video playback capability on a phone like this.
Is there a fix, or am I going to have to put this great phone back on eBay and continue my quest for the perfect phone?
79 views and no opinions?
i hear about this problem a lot. try converting the file format of the video to .avi or mp4.
personally i have no problem with video playback. havnt tried mkv yet but im not too hopefull on that one.
If you cant play it decend, then it's a rom problem. I use valkyre roms and I never had problems what so ever when I wanted to play a video.
So try that rom and see how it goes.
If i want to view a video on my TP2 i convert it with this tool:

I spent much of yesterday trying out different DVD/video conversion software and finally settled on one that does a great job of converting files into a format that plays well on the Tilt 2/TouchPro 2. I don't know why, but it appears this phone's version of WMP doesn't like MPGs or WMVs as much as it likes 3GP files. These files (in both *.3gp and *.3g2 format) play almost flawlessly and without artifacting, something neither MPGs or WMVs do on the Tilt 2. In the process of auditioning all these various programs, the best I found was Pavtube's Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate. Don't let the name fool you, it does much more than just Blu-ray. In fact, it can handle almost anything you throw at it and the flexibility of output choices is amazing. Not only are there templates for just about any video/audio format you'd want, but they are editable, so you can change them to your needs and then save them as custom templates. I was hesitant about the $69 list price (the trial puts a watermark in the middle of the screen), but I did some searching and found a discount coupon online and got it for only $37. I have converted all 3 Matrix movies, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and a BD of the 2nd Narnia movie. I had the choice to preserve the theatre aspect ratio or go full screen and both look stunning on the Tilt 2 and play with barely a hiccup. I have some traveling coming up and wanted to take some movies on the road. This program was well worth the money and I spent hours trying others with varying degrees of success. The one free option (Freemake) is OK, but has nowhere near the customizability and its 3GP conversions do not play properly on the Tilt 2. The WMV conversions I did had artifacting issues with fast motion and the MPGs looked horrible and laggy. I wholeheartedly recommend this program from Pavtube. Here's a link to the discount I used.
http://software-coupon-everyday.com...o-converter-ultimate-42-discount-coupon-code/
BD conversion is a real-time process (yes, you need to have a BD reader), but DVD conversions take about 25 minutes for a 2 hour movie. The one BD movie I did yielded a 900mb file and the standard DVDs yielded about 500mb files. You can get them smaller, but quality will suffer a bit. I have a 16gb card, so no worries for me.
BTW, the serial number worked on both my desktop and laptop PC installations, so I can take it with me on the go.
I don't understand why you would do all this workarounds when all you need to do is flash a decend rom?
What workarounds? If you want to transfer DVD movies to the device you have to convert them somehow, and the software I recommended makes it possible. Not everyone wants to go through the hassle of flashing ROMs. Yeah, I know it can be easy, but the trial and error of finding a ROM that suits your needs, is stable and the chore of reinstalling all your tweaks and programs is a real pain. No thanks.
Hate to say it cuz I love my TiltII but IMHO it is that hardware acceleration of the video was not implemented in the driver by HTC just like the original Tilt which was a dog for playing video files as well. I have found that the HTC video player will play H264 mp4 files that are great looking and not jumpy but it cannot be that high of throughput.
Have you looked here for a discussion about the problems:

Are you running Atom's or Neo's cab? After reading through all the related threads, seems like Neo's latest V3 cab has better performance and higher compatibility with the Tilt 2/TP2, but it's over 1mb compared to 80k. I assume this needs to be installed to system memory, not the SD card.
I installed Atom's cab and while it did speed up the box animation, I see no difference in any of my 3D games or in TF3D performance. I read where many are installing both Atom's and Neo's cabs and seeing improvement. I may try this, but I'd like to hear from others that have done so.

Yup. Running OCX at 710. Movies played fine even without that. 3D games are a little laggy, though. Just wondering if I need both 3D drivers to see the full benefit.
Good day,
Can anyone with a real live Galaxy Nexus (or even another handset hacked and running Android 4.0) confirm if the music-playing-alphabetically bug STILL exists? If you aren't familiar, let me explain. This problem is well documented and has existed for years in various versions of Android. (Do a Google search for "android music alphabetical order" and you'll see years of posts from all over the Internet, about tons of devices, regarding this issue.)
As briefly as possible, the bug is that media in non-MP3 format (notably M4A and WMA) ignores track numbers in metadata tags and instead gets sorted and displayed alphabetically. I had great hope that this would be fixed in Google Music, but can confirm that this application on my Galaxy S II running 2.3.4 still does this wrong.
To duplicate, just do the following: place a full, correctly-tagged, album in M4A or WMA format on the phone using any method you like (USB Storage or MHL via Windows Media, makes no difference) then attempt to play the album in real life track order. It doesn't work. Android refuses to read the tags on anything except MP3's and thus defaults to alphabetical order. (It ignores embedded album art too, for the record. And just to confirm: YES. All my music is meticulously tagged, and even a tagging app on the Android phone confirms that it sees the track numbers.) It's an M4A- or WMA-and-Android problem.
I won't go on a rant about how utterly inexcusable this is (although it absolutely is) and how my WP7 and iOS devices handle this very simple task just fine. Except: it is inexcusable, and those OS's DO handle this just fine. As someone who frequently listens to albums in real-life track order, and who doesn't have the time to transcode all my music just to satisfy a buggy OS, it honestly renders an Android device nearly useless to me. I'm interested in the Galaxy Nexus, but after purchasing a Galaxy S II and being disappointed with this bug, I'm not inclined to get a Nexus if it can't do this properly either. Can anyone confirm if this works properly on a Galaxy Nexus and/or in Android 4.0?
Thanks much,
Adam

I leave it to someone with an ICS phone or rom to answer your question, but until then you can help yourself with a little app.
Use MediaFix from the market to update your MediaStore database with the correct informations: https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.gorgonloop.MediaFix

Thanks for the reply. I had forgotten completely about the existence of MediaFix. It's even installed on my GS2, but I use the device so sporadically I forgot all about it. (As you may have detected from my post, I just picked it up again for the purpose of checking out Google Music.) I suspect you'd agree with me that such a utility shouldn't even need to exist, but hey, a fix is a fix.
Still, I'm quite interested to see if Google has addressed this properly in 4.0.
Again, thanks,
Adam

I'm going to check this out and see if it fixes the album art bug. I am anal about properly tagging my collection and it burns me that the media services screw up the album art all the time. I mean come on all the mp3 in each album all have the same art, album, and artist and it still assigns random wrong art to albums and tracks. I just don't get it.
EDIT: looks like it only works for mp4. Oh well.

Since when does iOS or Android support WMA?
Solved... ish...
It was really an accident that I learned about the WMA bit. Windows Media Player understands and syncs to the phone but insists on conversion of MP4 to WMA, with no way to turn this off -- as verified flatly by an official Microsoft answer. The Galaxy sees and will play the tracks but refuses to read the tags or album art in the WMA file. I would have been willing to (grudgingly) accept using WMA files on the phone, but not at the expense of making the original problem worse. Natch.
After some more research and testing I have ascertained that -- bafflingly -- the problem is directly related to the method of file transfer. MP4 files (but still not WMA as discussed above) which are put onto the phone using the MTP sync protocol get recognized fine, tags, art, and track numbers... All correct. The problem is therefore that files written using USB Mass Storage are the screwed up ones. (Sorry, DoubleTwist, you lose too.) So, in a roundabout way this seems it will be fixed with the Galaxy Nexus in that it only supports MTP. Someone geekier than me, please feel free to speculate or flat-out school me on why this difference exists. I do understand that MTP works at the logical file level rather than the lower block level of Mass Storage, and thus I can understand why the Galaxy Nexus can't support Mass Storage (no way to dismount the single partition)... but back to the Galaxy S II, I am still perplexed at how the phone fully understands files laid down one way but doesn't for the exact same files laid down another way.
So now, for me it's either manual copies in Windows Explorer (sucks, no way to easily and automatically add new albums using smart playlists, as I do with iTunes for my iOS devices and Zune for my WP7 phone) or use a media manager which supports MTP but which also doesn't force WMA conversion. This therefore knocks out WMP and Songbird. So far, then, this means it's either Kies (and hell will freeze solid before I use that garbage routinely) or MusicBee which seems to work fine, but damn, this has been a long way round a problem which shouldn't exist at all... And which would also seem to leave Mac and Linux users still out in the cold, as MTP is basically a Windows-only technology. Bah.
Any other suggestions, anyone?
Regards
Adam

Hi, I've recently discovered an audio format I'm looking into using on my device in the future, instead of MP3. The format I've recently discovered is opus. I know it's not quite as universal as MP3, but it appears as though it's becoming commonly accepted that converted files are nearly transparent at bitrates as low as 144kbps for a lot of people, even lower for some others. This would be awesome, as I'm out of space on my phone and have about 30GB of MP3s I'd like to have with me in addition to what's already on my device. I'd like to find a way to make sure the difference in audio quality between my V-0 VBR MP3s and my Opus files at 144kbps is undetectable to me.
I was looking for a way to test this reliably directly on my Galaxy S4, because the sound quality I get on this device (using V4A) is far better than the quality I get on my computer, even with lossless files. Does anyone know of an application that will allow double blind ABX sound tests on Android and that can support .OPUS, .MP3, and .FLAC files? I've searched in the play store, the forums here, and on Google and haven't been able to find any such application, but figured my last step was to ask people here on the forums before I gave up entirely.
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read my post and respond.
