What is the Best Media Player to You? - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi I would like to ask you guys if someone can help me to find a good media player for my XDA II? I would like to ask you also about real player and pocket DivX. When I'm intalling those two applications both ask me ->
would you like to replace the existing file "\Windows\gx.dll" modified on 9/25/2003 with this one? modified on 05/23/2002 then on both installation i pressed "No"(the options are Yes, No, Yes To All, No To All).
So what i would like to ask you is did i choose the right option, because I'm assuming that my existing file is better because it is newer than the file offered by both of the program?
PocketDivx: because when I tried to play the .mpg file under PocketDivx the picture was going very well but there is no sound and also at the end of the clip it makes my XDA II freezing so I have to do reset to be able to get out of that application.
Real Player: Both sound and and picture went well, it just don't play my .mpg file(the same file that I run under PocketDivx)
Is there any player available for XDA II that able to play all type of file?
Regards,
Willy

Try PocketMVP For mpg,mpeg,avi,mp3,ogg,........PocketTV offers extra options for mpeg files .............. 8) As for AMR files , Try Philips platform4 player

Also, it's worth having a look at Beta Player.

Thanks guys for your participation
Well... as I'm a new user of XDA II, could you please guide me how to install the last version of Beta player step by step? and could you please also let me know which file should i run as i'm going to use it in XDAII? because I've finished downloading 2 types of beta player the first one is "betaplayer.arm.cabs.STABLE.0.5" but it seems to me they are only bunch of ".cab" files without any setup.
and the second one is "betaplayer.setup.STABLE.0.5.exe"
The "betaplayer.*.cabs.*.zip" - Contains all the install .cab files for different types of device (arm,mips,sh3). No PC or ActiveSync needed. Cab file should be launched on the device itself.
The "betaplayer.setup.STABLE.0.5.exe"Standalone install for PocketPC or HPC devices. It should be launched on the PC when the PDA is connected via ActiveSync.
so which one should I choose to use(which one better?)?
Regards,
Willy

I would use the stable version otherwise you may have glitches with the beta release.

Just run the .exe. It contains the same Beta Player version as the .cab, just wrapped up in a PC installer. The .cab version is for PocketPC owners who have no PC (Apple users, for example).

Thanks
Dear Forum,
Thanks for your help I appreaciate it so much. Keep on Rock'in Here and update this Topic if you have any updates or news about the multimedia player.
Best Regards,
Willy

is there anything like winamp for ppc 2003 w/ equalizer, etc.

http://www.winampaq.com/new/index.html
it's nice but only support mp3 so not wma and such

For mp3 and ogg...
have a look at MortPlayer. IMHO it's the best audio player available: skinable, easy to use and best of it: it's free!
For video I use the above mentioned beta player.
Greetings,
BGK

the best player is the betaplayer...

Also you may want to take a look at Pocket Music.. It supports MP3, WMA, OGG and more.. It also has 10-band equalizer, skin-changing ability, great-looking GUI and it's free! Below I include the PocketMusic app and some skins (including Winamp look-alike)

I forgot to mention (very sorry) for skin-changing ability you need the PMF Feature pack (shareware). It features additional features like skin-changing, saving, switching between EQ presets and more.. But I think PocketMusic alone is enough.. Anyway here's the file

Questions about BetaPlayer
Dear Forum,
Hi guys! I would like to ask you about the beta player. When the first time I installed the BetaPlayer there was a question about wether i would like to intall it to the main memory or storage card, I chose the storage card instead of the main memory because I thought by installing it to my storage memory it will save my main memory. I ran the program many times and it went well I'm satisfied with that program, until this afternoon I add couple of video clips into my storage card by ejecting my storage card from the XDAII and plug it into my laptop's SD slot then copy and paste it from my laptop(I did not use the crade to copy the video clips) to the storage card. When I'm done copying those files I clicked on savely remove device then I pulled out the SD card from my laptop then plug it into my XDAII then I tried run the Betaplayer but the XDAII is freezing with the processing sign or icon appear on the screen, I could not even turn the XDAII off so I had to unlplug the battery from the XDAII to turn it off. Turned the XDA back on and tried to run the betaplayer again but it didn't do anything(no reaction at all) so I decided to remove that program from the XDAII then I installed it again like the first time I did but it did not ask me again wether I want to install it to the main memory or to the storage device.
So what I would like to ask you guys is, Is it good idea to install program to the storage card instead of main memory?
Regards,
Willy

Problem with Beta Player0.5 stable
Dear Forum,
Hi all! I would like to ask you beta player user. I'm using it and i feel satisfy with that player, so far I just have one problem; sometimes it is freezing just like that, for instance this morning i played a long recorded sound with XDA II program(Album), but because the sound is too long so the XDA turned off automatically, so i turned it back on then check my battery(because i thought my battery was out at the first time), I figured out that my batter was fine so then I decided to run the beta player then i cliked the open file, then I clicked on the video clip file, suddenly the betaplayer automatically closed(the screen went to the main screen), so I tried to run it again from the tool bar of the XDA main screen but what happened was there was no reaction at all, just like nothing clicked(I've tried many times but the result still the same-no reaction at all, the betaplayer did not run at all). I checked on the running program list and did not find beta player on that list. So I had to do the soft reset(I cliked the reset button on the bottom of the PDA) to be able to run it back again. this problem has happened about 3 times since the first time I started to use this program(last thursday). and i also tried to run a video file but the beta player said that "the atimageon is out of memory please try again later or run it with a different application."
Could anyone here help me to tell what is wrong with it? or did I do anything wrong to the beta player?
my beta player is 0.5 stable version
regards,
Willy

is there an option fo rit?
i assumed the icon on the top right was it but every time i press it my fone crashes and i have to reset (pressing the reset button, is that the safest way without data loss??)
im using the default media player from the box from o2 UK
thanks
i dont know if this can be done, but try and get the cab file for wm10 from a 1.40rom, and install that , i would imagine it would install over the old version. im sure one or more of the pro's on here will tell u if u can do it, it might solve the reset thing.
'fraid not! The WMP 10 is coded into the CE ROM (1.40) and not a separate cab file....
A lot of XDA IIs users are happy with the 1.40 Rom and 1.13 radio (particularly now with the unidirectional patch as well) and it might be worth considering an upgrade without all that O2 cr*p on!
Follow the advice given in the wiki (link at the top left of the page).
my media player 9 and media player 10 both do this on certain videos. I think our phones just dislike certain files. Try opening a different video.
I know it's a little off of the topic subject but have you considered the TCPMP media player instead of Windows Media Player as in my opinion it is far better for video than WMP 10 is?

TCPMP will not stream AVI files?

Hi All,
I have TCPMP V0.72 (And 0.71) and sucessfully streamed MPG video and MP3 audio from my NAS box. However any AVI (No matter what codec has compressed it) just will not play..... it seems to load the ile correctly and everything looks ready to go but when you press play it just freezes...
I have tried this on WM5 Ultimate and WM6 Beautiful (Thanks KDS ) and they both seem to show this feature.
Any ideas?
Now, thats odd. I just watched an avi file compressed with divx codec(with mp3 audio stream) with TCPMP provided in V.72.
What codec are you using?
Hi KDS,
The files are compressed with random codecs the main ones i am trying are based on Core ASP (The compression was done on my linux box). The phone has all the codecs i could find installed
AAC
FFMPEG
FLAC
AC3 (audio only i think)
speex (no idea)
Vorbis (i assume for ogg audio)
I just tried an AVI with no compression and it worked (except for stuttering caused by the data rate)
I am new to the universal ROM cooking world. I think it used to work although very choppy when i tried a while ago..... (EDIT probably over a year On the standard Vodafone UK install and a previos version of TCPMP (no idea what versions though)
Gotcha!
I'd not installed any of those plugins to avoid extra space inside the ROM.
Just put the given below files inside the windows folder and try watching your videos/movies again.
Do tell me if they worked for you
Hi KDS,
Just tried a hard reset then installed TCPMP 0.72RC1 then copied the suggested files to the folder.
Then i used netuse to lock onto the local file and then opened a file in TCPMP.
Once again everything looks ok until i press play and nothing happens. It then freezes me out if i try and open another file.... These files open and play normally if they are on the SD card.
TO recap everything is fine until i try to load a compressed AVI (I managed to see an uncompressed one) Are these read or transmitted in a different way?
There are so many different things i could change but i would be stabbing in the dark not knowing what the issues are, should i look at something other than the universal to make this work (lan storage unit firmware etc,)
Any guidance would be appreciated as this is the final hurdle to getting the universal to be the centre point for my home entertainment system
You tried the files in abovementioned post?
Hi KDS,
Yes i did try but got nothing.
It looks like;
It is not TCPMP streaming over the network as this works (with uncompressed files)
It is not Compressed files as they play from the SD card properly.
It is not the version of WM5 vs WM6 or any OS related feature as in all the different roms i have tried it fails and works in the same way.
My final attempt tonight is to stream from a completely differnt source (a PC based SAMBA share) hopefully this will work and will be at least able to watch recorded TV and the most recently converted video.
Seems i have a strange one here....thanks for the help though
KDS would you think there would be any merit in changing the firmware on the wireless router?
I just proved everything works with a PC based SAMBA share. (through the wireless router)
So it leaves only the NAS box left to blame....i really wanted to have my media stored in this fashion as it means i do not need to have a PC on all the time.
Anyway thanks for a very good site, forum and members... and now i have my Univeral and Palm treo v750 on WM^ i am sure i will stick around. and get well and truely besotted with all things HTC.....
Til next time
@KDS Thanks for trying it is nice to have sucjh direct contact to a person in the know.
Glad that the things worked for you!

first install 'bchs ozone' cab in found in the forum, or google `htc magician bluetooth stock stereo a2dp xda developers ' you will find the results directing to that thread or search 'htc magician a2dp published' it will take to another relevant thread. although it works with windows media player, recognised as WMPayer internally, install latest mort player,it is so much better for bluetooth or otherwise, it is free, copy that executive file mortplayer, rename that file WMPLAYER.`add to today's screen with pocket plus,or place it anywhere,U NEED TO BE LOGGED ON TO GET THAT CAB FILE.transfer that file on your mini ,install , open bluetooth options, search new devices with headset on,pair it, choose stream audio to headset and automute . restart. start mortplayer(from the WMPLAYER RENAMED SHORTCUT ONLY otherwise won't work ) and play and you are on. beware only mp3 files encoded with minimum bitrate of 128 with 44100 hz will stream

Thanks i think fella.....
just downloaded that file etc... and transferred it to the mini, installing now and will let you know how i get on....
i'm useless with this stuff... HA HA LOL! cheers
installed the software fella and seems to give me the options to stream audio but still unable to hear anything?? i'm using wmplayer not this mortplayer? where can i get mort player from??
wmplayer now refuses to play any songs?
now the sound will not come to the wired handsfree, or speaker because the option - stream to the bluetooth headset is chosen.want to listen normally uncheck that option and then raise the volume from speaker / sound icon on the top.everytime but if want to listen through bluetooth. check that - mp3 bitrate 128 or above with 44100 hz only . what headset ur using ,s9 right, i use S9 works perfectly with the usual skipping in between. google ` mortplayer' .i'm not attaching that it's free. u want everything on platter. did u paired it nicely, restarted it. icon comes on top and it's starts green means it's streming .try to see the properties of the songs in windows media player if it varies in any of the parameters . 128 kbs or above , not lower than 44hz not higher like 48hz .plays best 192kbs. get a convertor software for getting it right. trials of those are plenty. google
Right i have done as you instucted to get it to play normally however it still will not play through the speaker??
Sorry didnt realise mortplayer was free will google it etc... i have a feeling it is the songs that are the problem, bitrates and 44hz...will double check these aswell.
another thing u need to have rom 1.12 or 1.13 and radio rom 1.13 , speaker problem comes to devices with older roms. go to settings and `device information' and check the rom number there. to get the rom and install it. latest eng rom was tmo uk 1.13 with radio1.12. install radio rom 1.13 separately after that.radio 1.12 also plays . will also do but preferred is 1.13 search the forum and threads. don't go for big storage hack rom. if ur not sure
right.... its says my rom version is 2.21.4.1 wwe???
what phone do u have xda mini (magician )rom comes with 1.03,1.11 ,1.13 etcconfiguaration , are u using mini s with keyboard or mini lookalike with windows media 5` charmer' .the rom cannot start from 2.21 otherwise etc
Hi,
Apologies i should have put this in the orginal post. right i'm from the uk and the phone is a 02 xda mini with slide out keyboard. it os is winodws mobile 5.
And the device info says that the rom is 2.21???
it's o2 mini S , MINI WITH THE S, it's code name is htc wizard, go to forum, choose htc wizard , u can also flash windows mobile 6 with inbuilt support for a2dp , no need to install this cab if u installl one of those rom. but be careful if u don't know . read throughly all the upgrading threads for 10-15 days to get the hang of it , and when u r sure then venture into it after understanding it throughly .otherwise there is ia danger of u bricking the device
Do you guys even know what the title of this thread is?
Can't you look around or create a new thread if you want info not pertaining to the content of a particular thread? Why hijack this one?

Orb with TCPMP, WMP and the 8525

Hey everyone,
I've tried searching for this in all the forums, but couldn't find a solution, so if it's already been discussed, I apologize, please just direct me to its location.
I'm trying to access my orb media from my AT&T 8525, but have been having some issues. Currently, the only way I am able to stream a playlist or a shuffle of songs is by using the real media player format within the settings in orb from the IE browser. The problem with this is, it doesn't allow for me to jump to the next track, if I didn't want to listen to the current one. So I have tried to use the Windows Media Player format in the settings, and I have ran the test.orb.com, and it plays the test file correctly. But when I try to use that format to stream to my phone, I get the error message "Could not open URL" (if I try to use TCPMP media player), or "Cannot play any items in the playlist." (if I try to use Windows Media Player as the default player). Again, when I run the tests (with either Media Player) using the Windows Media streaming format, the files play perfectly, but they just don't work when I try to listen to a list of music from my media. I've also tried adding the codecs (wma and wmv encoders) as mentioned in another forum, but that didn't help any.
Any and all help is always greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Try this version of TCPMP and the attached files need to be copied in the program folder after installation. Lastly go in and click all applicable file associations inside TCPMP (only one i leave unchecked is MP3)after the installation and do a soft reset. Try ORB again and it should work! Works great for me and this was a real problem for awhile. but, just found the solution and can't remember where.
Yessssssssssssssssssssss!
OMG you people are a freakin GODSEND. I LOVE ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!! (In a manly sorta way ) But no seriously, I've spent over 4 hours trying to get this to work and it finally did (by doing what was mentioned above)!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank all of you so much for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm donating as soon as I get some money... lol. Thanks again everyone.
Ok so I've moved to the Kaiser (instead of the Hermes), and TCPMP was working fine in the beginning. And now, all of a sudden it stopped working. I tried a soft reset, reassigning the file associations, changing orb's settings to a different media type, and reinstalling TCPMP and the .dll's included above, but I keep getting that same "Could not open URL!" message. This has become extremely frustrating. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, please help. If not, is there any other comparable media player that would work with Orb that I could try? Any and all help again is greatly appreciated. Thanks again everyone.
thanks for the props above. but, i dont own a kaiser, so i really couldn't tell you. but, i would of course suggest looking in the kaiser forums and someone there has to have it figured out.

Problems with my new Tilt 2

I hope this is in the right spot!
I finally got fed up with my Fuze and I bought a Tilt 2.
I am having a couple of problems which I "think" is related to WM6.5
1) The sites that stream .mp3 will not open Windows Media Player and it tries to save it as a file instead of playing it. It looks like WMP isn't set to open .mp3 files??? Is there a fix for this?
2) I like to listen to audio from talkstreamlive.com and when I open the webpage, the list of shows is screwed up. There's no space between the list items, instead, it shows one name half on top of the line below for the whole list. I tried adjusting the screen zoom, but it makes no difference. If I fire up the Fuze which has WM6.1, all is well.
I tried searching for similar issues, but so far I haven't found anything like these.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it!
Thanks
ITAdmin
Well I dont use WMP for anything anymore. I use Coreplayer and it will open up URLs and play mp3's mp4's etc.
This may be the easiest solution for you.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I installed the new version of CP and that solved one issue, so how to I make CP the default player instead of WMP? I know how to do these adjustments on desktop PC's, but these mobile devices are a new deal for me...
I also solved the screwed up display too!!
Thanks soo much for the help!
