Hi there guys,
i've updated my OnePlus 3 to OxygenOS 4.0 with OTA. After that, I made a factory reset/wipe with the stock recovery, and still don't get F2FS filesystem in DiskInfo. I've read many other user's that made this method, and now they've got F2FS filesystem. What's is wrong with my device?
Kind regards
Stock only supports the /data partition as F2FS; all other partitions remain as ext4

Yeah, but /data partition still as ext4.

I'm getting conflicting messages regarding this.
Is there a way to get the system partition working as F2fs or is it just the data partition the only f2fs partition?

The data partition is the one that matters.
I think that all of the stable builds have F2FS on /cache but not on /system, or /data.
I didn't check right after updating, I had root and TWRP before on stock oos. In the meantime I have relocked the bootloader and definitely performed some hard reset. So just checked for you and diskinfo says the data partition is f2fs now.

Do factory reset from settings you'll get f2fs.
Same here. Updated from 3.2.8 to final nougat build and OOS 4.0 OTA. Full stock, never rooted. Just checked with Diskinfo. No F2FS on data or cache. Don't know what's going on seriously.
You have to go to 'factory data reset' in settings and make sure you checked 'erase internal storage' as well.
Pls do a backup as this will erase EVERYTHING. Only then you will get the f2fs on the data partition. System partition will remain as ext4
Im using Oxygen OS 4 and F2FS
on data partition!
Only Data needs to be F2fs.. You can't switch it unless you format.
i made a Factory reset in settings and i choose delete internal storage then its boot in TWRP but not delete internal storage.
I try many times and i always check that i not forget to choose delete internal storage button before in do factory reset. But Internaal storage not deleted.
My Question: ow i can go to F2FS if factory reset not delete my internal storage?
PS. Im not that professional about flashing
Well... the same happened to me!
I did a factory reset, I choosed to delete data (yesss I event backup my stuff to my pc, so I'm certain of my words) but after the factory reset with data delete option... the data was still there and off course ext4 remained.
I will do it again when it's time to upgrade again. Until them I will not bother.
PS.: Is it possible to just format/change file system of /cache and /system and still keep things running???

i do many times and i always choose erase internal storage, but after that phone reboot in TWRP and delete but without internal storage.
So any idea whats could be the issue?
Hmmm I think the issue might be with TWRP. My OP3 was unrooted, using stock recovery and initially on official OOS V.3.2.8, when I upgraded it to official nougat
some people tell me its better to do factory reset with stock recovery, because of the TWRP decryption issues, just tried to flash the stock recovery.
Went to bootloader, "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", and after i press the reboot to recovery button i reach the 1+ logo with the "powered by Android" screen and then device gets stuck.
Anyone can tell what's wrong?
i too don't have f2fs partition. OTA update to 4.0. All stock not rooted not flashed. Just OTA update using VPN. What went wrong? How to get F2FS partition?

i hvan't done it yet. I don't want to lose my data. I guess we need to erase partition or factory reset to get F2FS partition? If yes then i am ok for now to not get F2FS partition.

Hi
Not sure if Koush reads this forum regularly but the title speaks for itself. Attempts to wipe the EXT partition or restore a previous backup fail with an inability to mount the partition for wipe or 'sd-ext.img' not found on restore.
My ext partition was created with clockwork (EXT2)and updated to EXT3 with gparted.
I note EXT4 compatibilty in the new version. Is EXT4 now mandatory?
Inability to restore my carefully backed-up trial ROMS is a bit of a bummer
Advice please?
(Thinking to try upgrade to EXT4, but what happens if I try to restore EXT3 backup to EXT4 partiton? )
I have the same problem. I tried froyo from desire r3 yesterday and it worked. I was using the older clockworkmod. I restored from nandroid as i messed up restoring using titanium backup. this morning i decided to try it again and restore it all properly.
I upgraded clockwordmod to 2.0.0.4 as it said there was an upgrade. Now when i use rom manager to use the DeFrost rom (yes i did a wipe) it says "cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 (No such device)"
I have tried upgrading from ext3 to ext4 using gparted but it still wont mount. any ideas anyone?
Chris
I tried the EXT4 too but the phone would not boot at all (30 mins+).
I reverted to EXT3, then Nandroid restored allowing it to miss out the EXT partition. On reboot it rebuilt the Dalvik cache and started without apps. I then did a Titanium restore to get my apps back.
I shall now use ROM Manager to reinstall an earlier version of Clockwork.
Not happy!
same
I did not backup my ext3 so I deleted that backup, installed last recovery and redid backup and all was fine again
I got the same error when i launch the recovery using the rom-manager reboot 2 recovery option. When i launch the recovery with vol. down and power and then apply the Update.zip it works fine.

Surely both methods run 'update.zip' from the root of the SD Card. This seems a strange result.

Thank you very much! I may have seemed excessively irritated earlier but only because I was not sure I could find my way back. No harm done in the end - sorry.
Could you clarify the difference between entering recovery from ROM Manager and doing so by pressing keys? I am puzzled by the apparent difference.
Thanks again.

The problem was that when I made some changes to make it easier to build for devices that have various file systems (ext3, ext4, yaffs2, etc), and one of those changes broke the default file system for desire: it went from ext3 to ext4.
I have uploaded 2.0.0.5 into ROM Manager. Please let me know if this fixes your problem. If it does not, while recovery is failed do the following:
adb pull /tmp/recovery.log .
And pastebin me that file

Using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.0.0.5:
Backup seems to work well now for me, all do it without problems.
Restore also seems to work well now for me, all do it without problems.
EDIT: I've applied the patch for disable-bootsound do it by me and working, and when I restore my nandroid for test if it works well, the bootsound is enabled, how can be possible??
One think, some users of HTCMania forum say that using your recovery they see that available space on system is lower than before do a nandroid restore.
An another think, can you explain me what do you do for reboot and autostart the command specified? I want to modify de modaco rooting r6 using your recovery for doit itself using another .bat and .sh modified files.
can confirm nandroid sd-ext backup = works
can confirm namdroid sd-ext restore = works
ran nandroid from Clockwork 2.0.0.5 on r3.1 with ext3 partition. (backup / restore no problem)
thanks for the quick fix.

Hello im usning latest rom manager and clockworkmod recovery 2.0.0.5 but i cat get the sd-ext backup to work.
got the error:
E:Can`t mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(invalid argument)
I see others say that they can do backups. Do i have to do something to make it work? Like recreate sd-ext or something?
(sorry for my bad language, comming from sweden)
Regards Daniel
Thanks to Koush for the rapid fix. Much appreciated and working fine.

Have you converted the EXT2 created by Clockwork to EXT3?
You need to do this. See recent threads.

A search on EXT3 + Clockwork + gparted would have found it. It's only 3 threads away!
I can't upgrade to ext3 as using adb I can't mount my ext partition. Even from recovery. Both card readers I own won't read SDHC so I can't even use Linux. Is it possible to add an auto upgrade to ext3 option to Rom manager/clockwork recovery?
I can't use normal methods as I don't have a trackpad :-(

Is there an ext2.ko floating around for desire I could use in recovery? That would fix this issue. I imagine that is how you are using ext2 in the first place? Can you send me that module?

Just 1gb? (I usually prefer 2gb for a lil more space than the phone would have given me)
Anywho yes.
1) Start from scratch by removing all partitions.
2) Choose 1024 for sd-ext
2) Skip for Swap and sd-ext2
3) choose ext4 as the filesystem
When done you can toggle usb storage from the main recovery menu again and copy back your SD card content onto the FAT32 side (it'll probably be the only mount that shows up on your computer anyways unless you're using linux).
Since you're using EliteMod (from the other thread) you can also choose to convert the existing filesystems from ext3 to ext4 by first checking to see which ones need to be converted by taping 'info' on the first screen and see which are ext3.
Then go into tools, and convert backup/etc -> ext4 , and select specifically the ones that need converting (in your case may be data and cache).
After conversion goto tools -> fix user permissions (not 'needed' but generally a good idea after converting a file system).
It would probably be a good idea to goto wipe|format and clear cache+dalvik before booting back into the rom (it'll see the sd-ext partition and start moving stuff automatically).
If it's all working and such, be sure to go back into recovery and make a backup.
PS: The paid version of 4EXT will let you configure the recovery further from the app, such as telling it not to backup dalvik-cache or cache when backing up (instead they will be formatted upon restore), as well as some other options like hide non-FAT32 partitions from the PC when mounting USB storage in recovery.

I followed your steps ... i wiped cache and dalvik and i flashed dataswap 64 mb and now i turned on phone and there is statement ANDROID IS UPRGADING ..starting applications ..and its loading and loading whats wrong ?
Wiping dalvik cache clears some application related data which is created when the app is installed. Doing this can sometimes resolve some issues.

Nothing is wrong, normal behavior after wiping the dalvik cache, it'll go thru and optimize all your applications and won't show that dialog again until either you wipe the dalvik cache again or a new application is installed without the automatic optimization. You should have seen a # or # incrementing as it was doing it (i.e.: in my case # of 155 applications).
So I feel satisfied with Mimicry 1.5. So it is one more step for maximum performance: new file system.
I was searching for tut but there's too many results and I can't find anything, so I will post my dump questions here:
What is ext4? Is whole new FS on internal memory or extra partition on sdcard or both?
Will I need to reinstall rom?
Is ext4 console required or cwm will work too?
Can I restore nandroid backup over ext4?
Can i create ext4 partition on sdcard without reinstalling rom?
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk 2
Mimicry supports ext4 and I highly recommend using it. The easiest way to check and see what file system you are using across the different partitions of your phone is with 4ext recovery. I have a guide to switch to 4ext recovery here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33058659
It's like the 4th post or so, you can do it other ways as well but it just makes sense having the better recovery anyway. You are getting a few things jumbled together, 4ext is a recovery. Ext4 is a files system used in linux that is faster than ext3 but has potential issues with the extra journaling. Just do a little googling to find more info.
You can partition your sdcard to include a ext partition, usually used to store apps, it can be better for some and can be slower for others depending on many things such as how many apps you have, speed of sdcard, etc. Also som roms do not support an ext partition on your sdcard natively so that is something to keep in mind.
Do a little reaserch and decide what's best for you. But definetly get the 4ext recovery and I highly suggest changing all partitions on your phone to ext4

Okay. But after that how to format new file system both on sdcard and internal memory? Will titanium backup restore data of some backuped apps due to different location of ext4 partition on sdcard and so on. I mean i will give fresh start to my dz on sdcard too. But there's about 15 apps with important data that i need to restore easily after that.
umm, so if you choose to replace clockwork with 4ext recovery there is an option there to format all partitions (except sdcard) also under info, it will tell you current partitions in case you dont know
now there is an option to format sdcard in there as well (i recommend putting all contents of sd on computer first as a backup) choose swap partition size (probably just choose 0 but if you want swap look more into this) choose ext partition size (usually makes sense to have it larger than internal memory so in your case more than 1gb) dont do a second ext partition (dont know of a rom that supports it) remainder fat32
let it run and then transfer contents from pc back to card (this will transfer back onto fat32 partition)
any file need then is still accessible through both computer and phone (except windows cant read ext partitions)
in titanium backup you can choose where to restore apps too, and yes it recognizes apps on ext partitions
Finally I have time and format everything to start fresh&clean install from scratch.
I've taked screenshot of recovery

So I've noticed that phone keep writes in data, while sd-ext stays untouched. So how can I force install in sd-ext instead of internal memory? I've google it before start installing apps and found that I need to use terminal emulator for typing these cmds:
Su
A2sd install
But second one returns not found, so I decided that may be is automated process, but it isn't as became clear.
What should I do?

I get a insufficient space error when installing new apps or updating existing ones. I bought the phone pre-rooted and running Project X v3.6 from here on XDA. This is my first smart phone, so I'm noob. I don't like the lack of control over data storage. Listed below is the storage breakdown. As you can see, I have space across the board and I cant install the 35MB Inbox by google app. Maybe there's a way to change the size of the partitions? 2GB for apps seems weak to me.
Avail space according to storage in settings:
Device storage - 2GB, 250MB free
USB storage - 11.5GB, 2.9GB free
SD card (for music) - 3.7GB total, 500MB free
I also have a bunch of apps that need updating, but cant.

"wiping cache" --> What cache? Of each app? I'll clear Dropbox app cache and then try to update it, but still says not enough space.
I cleared delvik cache, rebooted, and it showed updating android screen.
Neither fixed it. Still cant update or install new apps. Then available space is still the same as described in the OP.

You can partition an external SD to be read as the data/app folder, most recoveries have the option. Back everything up first though as it will wipe the SD before it partitions it.

I have AGAT_Recovery tREC_v0.3.5 for recovery.
I have two options:
partition sdcard
partition internal sdcard
If I scroll down and choose partition internal sdcard, error shows: "Can't partition device: external_sd" (yes it says external sd when I select internal sdcard)
However, if I scroll up to it, it does not show an error and lets me proceed. Nice bug... My question is should I select and partition the internal sd, or will that destroy the OS?
I've never done the internal SD

Hello.
I have maybe silly question, but I found, that even after "full wipe" in recovery (system, data, cache) there are still files in the phone (you can see them through TWRP file manager).
So I want to ask, what are these files for? Can they be wiped or it can brick the phone?
One reason why I'm asking is, that after install of Phh's SU there is somewhere saved his app, which survived the wiping and clean ROM install...
If you install official ROM, it wipe everything right? (it wipe even internal storage)
Thank you
Perform format data in TWRP and all files should be gone and your phone is decrypted too.
Thanks for reply.
But it looks like formatting data only deleted internal partition. Or are these files generated automatically on next reboot? (even to recovery)
