Anyone running 7 Roms having issues with their sensor? Seems mine stopped working after this. Just wondering if it's a bug or I should send for a replacement.
Thanks

Just used a hardware tester and the proximity sensor sir is there and functional. Anyone know if there is a setting so when you put the phone to your ear it will black the screen out? Thanks
I have no useful reply, but to say that my brand new 5X running stock Android 7.1.1 has the same issue. My phone is pure stock, not rooted, has never been wet or dropped and is fresh out of the box. I used https://play.google.com/store/apps/...kinetics&rdid=com.innoventions.sensorkinetics to verify that the proximity sensor is not working.
Maybe it's because of tempered screen guard, I had problems with proximity sensor with screen guard installed, removed it and problem gone.

Hello.
I bought my ogp a week ago and i discovered a problem with the motion sensor and the proximity sensor - both dosent work.
Some one know how to fix it? The seller said it's a software problem and an update will solve it.
Thanks.
Is your phone rooted by chance? There's a program I use called kernel tuner and it has live statistics of all the sensors.
Do you have a screen protector on that covers where the sensors are by chance?

No, my phone is not rooted, i checked the sensors with another app and all my sensors are turned off, no one is working and replying data.
About the screen protector it dosent cover the sensors so it is not the problem...
More ideas?
Thanks!

Did you try to check for software updates in the About phone section of the settings application? If there's an update there's a chance that that could fix it.
Maybe it is just me and my device, but since the MM update (the real one, not the beta) my notification LED doesn't work. I have tested it with text messages, emails, missed calls, charger plugged into my computer, charging plugged into a standard charger, and charging plugged into the fast charger... nada on any of them.
Anyone having this issue? If so how have you rectified it? It has been a minute since I first got this thing (got it at launch) and the MM update reset all my settings so maybe there is a setting to turn it back on I am missing?
Help out a brother if you can. Thanks.
OK, so does anyone have any suggestions for an app that might help by letting me manually setup the notification LED?
Is Do not disturb mode on?

Thanks for the reply. It is not in DND as far as I can tell (not on).
If you haven't already, try a factory reset first

Have you found a fix for that? Facing the same issue and so far no luck.

Actually yes. After I wiped my phone for my wife the notification now works.
Another issue that I recently found the solution to... if your ZF2's proximity sensor has gotten crazy sensitive since the update try cleaning it. Seriously. Especially if you have a tempered glass screen protector. I thought the piece of advice was bogus but I cracked out my lens cleaning spray and cloth and BOOM, the proximity sensor works correctly again.

Thanks! Got the led working again after a factory reset.
By the proximity sensor do you mean the little one next to the selfie camera or the GPS?
After a lot of fixed I've got the ZF2 working fine, except for the "smartlock - safe places" that thing can never work right.

Sorry, I just realized that you had replied.
Yes, the one beside the camera. Many have had an issue where the screen goes black after you start or answer a call, especially after the update. It seems the update made the proximity sensor much more sensitive. Since all decent screen protectors have a small cutout for the proximity sensor it will tend to accumulate dirt and oil from your skin. Wiping it down doesn't seem to get it clean enough for the sensor so you have to get a little more aggressive to clear the problem up. I went months enduring the problem and even set my phone so I could disconnect from calls using the power button and then ended up stumbling over the solution when setting up the phone for my wife when I upgraded to my Axon 7.
No led indicator
Hi i've been experiencing the same issue. After I update my zenfone 2 ZE551ML 4gb/64gb version, I have noticed that the led incator is not working and it is not found in the settings. Also, another issue I have encountered is that quick charging feature is not working sometimes but sometimes it works. I don't know how to fix. I'd be glad if someone could help with a step by step process. Thanks in advance!
Hi,
My girlfriend's Nexus proximity senor seems to be broken and her screen is black all the time when she's calling someone.
Is there an easy way (root or not, I don't care) to easily disable the sensor all the time or in Caller app ?
She's on latest stock Oreo 8.1.
Thank you
Experiencing this as well. From what I have read, it is an issue with 8.1 specifically and the 5X.
Google haven't really acknowledged the problem yet, which sucks.

For calls, pressing the power button twice seems to bring the screen back for use again - doing this too quickly starts the camera, if you have that enabled.
This probably won't help for other use cases, like whatsapp.
I can understand that it's a bug for WhatsApp (she has that bug too), but for the dialer too ?
I don't experience such issues. My prox sensor is working like it should. Though I have a friend who has some minor problems with it, but he has a glass screen protector on top of it. Mine has a cutout for the sensors

My old original Nexus 5 had this problem and I got around it with an Xposed Module called Disable Proximity Sensor. That module has since evolved to something called Sensor Disabler (Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-disable-proximity-t2798887). It doesn't say that it has been tested on the Nexus 5x, but it might still work. I am not sure how compatible it is with the new Oreo version of Xposed. Installing Xposed might be a bit overkill, but if it fixes the problem, it might be worth it.
I know how frustrating and annoying a busted proximity sensor can be, so I hope you can find a solution.
After the update I'm having trouble with the proximity sensor. It stops suddenly. Usually when I put the smartphone in the pocket. It was perfect before 172 firmware. Anybody notice anything? Any tips? I have the EVRL29. I also made a factory reset.

Hey, you can use the APP that comes with your phone to check if the proximity sensor fails.
How to open it: HiCare-Service-Smart diagnosis-Auto
Good luck
Thanks, But everything's fine with the sensor as Hicare. I don't believe it's a hardware problem, but I don't know what I can do about the system.

Do you have a black screen when you are talking?
When the sensor is locked, no. Sometimes the screen turns black immediately when I get the phone call. That is, the sensor is locked. Passing the finger over the sensor a few times, it unlocks and goes back to work.
Having the same issue. I thought it was because of Drupe (am using it instead of default dialer). Weirdly, proximity sensor activates even before attending the call sometimes and am not able to do anything. Just let the call ring it out and then have to call back as even locking/unlocking doesnt work.
have upgraded to version 184 and the problem continues. I don't know what to do. Disappointment with Huawei

Are you using full cover tempered glass screen protector?
Unfortunately I'm not ?
I don't know if it is updated firmware bug or hardware failure. My friend's phone has this problem too, and even worse when dialing or listening to voice SMS in FB messenger, the screen was off until the voice finished. I thought it was full cover screen protector; however, it was not after I suggested him to take off the screen protector, and the problem still persisted. Anyway he told me there was not any problem before updating.

Are you using full cover tempered glass screen protector? In addition, can you check whether the position of your sensor is clean.
I'm not, and it's clean. It works until I put it in my pocket, then it gets stuck.
Today I realized one thing, if I touch the screen where the sensor is for more than 2 seconds, it hangs. If I stay near, it works ?

My friend just sold his mate 20x with proximity sensor error and bought a new one with the same firmware version 9.0.0.184. The new one worked functionally with its proximity sensor. I think that his previous mate 20x had proximity sensor hardware's problem, not dead but not functional.
Ich have the same issue with a P30 Pro New Edition. I hope it's a hardware issue and the replacement unit will be fine.
After being new to the pixel 2 xl I'm rather confused as to why there's no pocket mode or judge - I'm able to unlock my device while being in my pocket (fingerprint & dt2w), usually there's a option like "avoid accidental touches" or a inbuilt "pocket judge" that blocks all inputs when the proximity sensor detects anything close but this is not the case on the Pixel 2 XL (something that worked flawlessly on all my OnePlus devices) - after reading the plenty reports of people with proximity sensor issues I did check my sensor and it detects proximity just as it should, it just seems not to block inputs... Or is it intended from Google that the proximity sensor gets ignored? Due to the many reports of people that claim their proximity sensors always detect anything near, hence the screen stays black when call is finished...
I feel like it's really inconvenient to have a device in my pocket that doesn't lock itself when being in a pocket, under a pillow or something like that and rather completely ignores proximity even though it's readings are correct - any thoughts on this? Did I miss something?
Must be something wrong with Your device, because when I cover my proximity sensor display goes dark and it doesn't accept touch to wake.

Thanks for the fast reply this gives me hope to be actually easy to fix, I'll check another kernel next, however I'd be surprised if it's related to @flar2's ElementalX...

same
ive had the same issue only on stock rom. When on stock I used Gravity Screen. Currently on Havoc and that has an option to block screen when proximity is covered.
The weird thing is AndroSensor reports proximity as working just fine, also on calls it's working - when I hold the screen to my ear it blacks out and gets back on when I remove it, I get the impression that Google has not implemented at "pocket mode", I also compared it to N5X running stock 8.1, same behavior, even though it's just the fingerprint due to the lack of dt2w, which unlocks the device even in the pocket...
On the previous devices I owned (OnePlus 2, 3t, 5t) dt2w & fingerprint was blocked as soon as proximity sensor detects anything close, I was expecting this exact behavior to be Standard, it seems however not to be the case unfortunately!

A workaround/suggestion...
I had a really bad issue like this back on my Samsung Galaxy S5 (there was a well known bug), and what I ended up using that worked really well was an app called Gravity Screen by Plexnor (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree&hl=en); granted it's been a LOOOONG while since I've used and even seen the app, so I can't say if it actually works on the Pixel 2 XL and/or Android 9 Pie, but if it does work as intended, it may just give you a (at least temporary) solution...
