LCD motion blur problem - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my Pixel C yesterday and I really love it.I didn't check the very quality problem of it before unlocking and rooting. Right now i find a serious LCD quality problem. The LCD screen it uses turns to be red and leaves very obvious trails while sliding. I doubt this related to the low response time of this screen or other hardware problem, and i wanna know if you guys get the same problem too. Could it be the side effect of unlocking and rooting? And if the problem is really caused by hardware, will google replace it for me and pay for the shipping fee(living in China, expensive international transport fee). And should I lock it before returning? Great thanks to you!

@Stone Wolf,
i wanna know if you guys get the same problem too. I have never experienced this problem.
Could it be the side effect of unlocking and rooting? No, definitely not.
And if the problem is really caused by hardware, will google replace it for me and pay for the shipping fee. Contact them and see, but if you purchased from Google, probably yes. If you didn't purchase from Google, they will tell you to return it to the retailer you bought it from.
And should I lock it before returning? Yes, unroot and lock the bootloader.

Warranty when screen broke?

Hi guys,
I've had a Galaxy Nexus for a very long time now and have been very happy with it. These days however, a very annoying charging problem appeared on my Galaxy Nexus. Basically, the device doesn't 'recognize' if it's charging or not. You can read more about the problem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427539
Now I want to fix my Galaxy Nexus under warranty, because that's the safest way and I don't want to invest any money in it anymore since I plan on buying the new Nexus when it comes out. Problem is, my Galaxy Nexus' screen broke a few weeks ago (For the people who are wondering how; phone fell on the ground and then a biker rode over it...) and I'm not sure if Samsung will fix my phone under warranty since I'm 99% sure it's a hardware issue and it COULD have been from the drop which broke my screen (which I'm 100% sure it's not, because I had the same problem some months ago, but it promptly disappeared and just a few days ago, which means it was a few weeks after the drop, the problem came back.)
Anyone here can tell me what Samsung's and my rights are and if they will fix it? I'm currently visiting family in China, so if I'm not sure if Samsung's going to fix it, I can probably let it fix in China for cheaper, but that's not my preferred option, since it will officially break my warranty (and still costs money of course ).
Anyone? There must be someone who has some experience in warranties... ?
Is the glass cracked?
Warranties cover problems/defects from normal use. If they see the broken glass they will tell you that the problem was caused by an accident or drop which is not their fault.
you may get lucky and they could replace it, but its their decision.

Yes, the glass is broken. So basically, you'd recommend me to let it repair for cheap in China? Thanks for your answer by the way!
Screen replacements aren't cheap either..$100-$150 at least

You should get quotes from a few places before repairing, If someone offers to replace it WAY cheap than the others it may be a poor quality screen they're using. The most expensive one will be samsung though. ( I supposed since its OEM)
I know screen replacements aren't cheap, I've done my research. The problem is that the glass is linked to the whole screen which means you've basically got to replace half of your phone just for the glass. The cheapest I've found for a repair is about 190 euro.
But that's NOT what I meant. Because it's so expensive I've decided to not repair the screen and wait for the new Nexus phone. I can live a few months with a broken screen. I can't live with this charging issue however so I just want to fix the mini USB port. I got my contacts in China, so bad quality isn't a problem.
So basically I got two options:
1. Let the USB port fix in China for cheap
2. Let the USB port fix by Samsung in Europe (where I live) under warranty, but have a chance to be denied thanks to the broken screen.
And you guys recommend me to do the first one right?

I don't know how comfortable you feel about getting it repaired in China, but if you really trust your contacts, then get both of them done there. Since you said that you are going to get the new Nexus when it comes out, you really don't have anything to lose.
I do have trusts in my contacts in China. Just wasn't sure if I should do it because I will probably lose my warranty and it costs money. But I've decided: I'm hoping to let it repair in China, thank you! (Only the USB port btw, not screen).
They will likely deny your claim for a warranty replacement and tell you that it was probably just damaged when it fell. Unless you can actually prove to a rep that the issue happened before the drop. Even so, cracked glass generally voids your warranty as user inflicted abuse. Factory warranty generally only covers problems cause by the makers of the device. Anything else and the warranty is voided and the claim dismissed.
Source: I dropped my last Samsung phone. Cracked glass, bad radio. Was going to be warranty replaced, until I dropped it. They had on file my claim for the bad radio, but since the screen cracked after the fact they told me that voided the warranty and they absolutely would not honor the replacement. I had to pay an insurance deductible and get it replaced for $99USD.

Bootloader relocked, can I claim warranty?

Well, I guess my One X isn't perfect.
When I first got it, I didn't look for the flaws, I just checked that the Wi-Fi is ok and there was no ripples, so I unlocked it and flashed ARHD. But, after few days of usage I was shocked after I pressed the screen a bit harder (not VERY hard, just a bit harder because I stumbled upon some HOX screen creaking issue videos) and it started creaking in the upper corners and you can push the screen further into the casing (upper side) like it's on some kind of springs. Note: It was in a case since day 1, never fell because I treat it like a baby, I've had it for around a week. Now, I relocked bootloader and got everything back to stock. I never flashed custom kernels nor tried to overclock it/undervolt it. Plus, it NEVER got hot, after playing some more intensive (THD) games it got SLIGHTLY warm, you could barely feel it. So it is deffinitely assembly issue. My question is, can I claim warranty? Because I bought this phone in Germany (1&1) and I'm from Croatia, so I would have to ship it to Germany first. Or should I take it to repair shop so they fix the screen because it's perfect in every other way? It's model SH26.
Thanks very much.
Regards.
Well, I would say that it depends on the engineer who examine your phones. However, they always knew that you are unlocked and they have the right to void your warranty if they detemine it was caused by mis-used of custom ROM/kernels or else. Since, this is a assembly issue which was not consequences of unlocking. I can said that you are safe from this.
I adviced you get to HTC directly instead of a repair shops and query to HTC croatia asking wether they accept your device or not. For you interest, I heard that international warranty was apply my One X from a local retailer while my device is brought from neighbour country.
Either its hardware fault or not if ur device is unlocked they can refuse the repair under warranty. i have asked the same thing and they told me that if you unlocked it u cant use ur warranty.i said all the stuff about its not my fault or unlocking and its by manufacture but no luck. so i guess it depends ur rights that ur country provides .In Uk you can claim hardware fault in court.
Sounds like a shoddy products.
Yup, had to admitted the warranty may go as per country basis refering local laws. I don't think many asian countries deserves the rights for requesting changes/rejecting a device in 7 days without giving any reason as in UK. Thus, this may be why there are more strict on this unlocking issue in UK.
I sent my HOX (unlocked) for repair directly to HTC due to faulty earpiece jack.
They returned it to me fixed, and with a new and better battery.
HTC didn't charge me a cent.
Ive installed ARHD recently and a few hours after i noticed my screen making creaking and popping noises when pressed. Not sure what i should do about it, it doesnt bother me that much but if my screen falls out ill be slightly annoyed ;p. Surely they have to replace/fix the phone because this is a hardware issue?
Guess I was extremely lucky. Having heard of many defective devices, I began to worry about mine, and, to my surprise, there was no problems i could detect.
That's because generally people only shout about things that don't work. The happy folks with good phones are much quieter.

True,i haven't had a single problem with my HOX.When it was first released many people complained about the flickering screen, after that with the memory loss problem, now with the new 2.17 update alot of people are having problems with the wifi, and even so,i don't have any problem with the phone.
ON Topic:In my country if you unlock your bootloader the waranty is completly void,a friend of mine had problems with the phone microphone and they denied his waranty, had to pay to repair the HOX.
This may not be the greatest tip to give, but if you know that they will reject warranty claims (If you are in the UK, etc...) on the basis of bootloader unlock, it might be possible to bypass the issue by just bricking the phone to the point that you cannot get to the bootloader, because it seems they determine warranty status by going to the bootloader and looking at the screen.
Hence, no bootloader screen to check, no evidence that warranty was broken.
Of course this is quite shady and if you have the means you should pay for the warranty repairs.
...or realise (UK, etc.) that your statutory rights are not affected. Which is why they are "statutory".
It's hard to tell, some users reporting that they've been charged for a new motherboard prior to fixing any issues. Until then they won't touch the device. It varies from country to country and individual on the other end.
If you got it from a carrier maybe try sending it to them and bypassing HTC.

Depends on the problem, but usually a fix is possible/cheaper for them.
On the UK, your statutary rights stand with the retailer. If you're unlocked (relock it) take it to them.
Great news, my One X is back and It's fixed. Big ups for HTC Germany!

[Q] Capacitive buttons not working.

Hi everyone! My phone's capacitive buttons stopped working all of a sudden. I've tried everything including the factory reset, so obviously from what I've read it must be hardware problem. Would this problem have to do with the digitizer? Is there ANY way that this can be repaired? I would send it for repairs but it is rooted and I guess the warranty is voided. :crying:

If you have unlocked the bootloader the warranty is not void,
Email from HTC:
Thank you for your email regarding your HTC One X.
My name is Ozgur and I'm the technical customer service support for the HTC Mail Team.
If the error of the device is not the direct result of unlocking the bootloader or placing a custom ROM, then the device just repaired under warranty. This has always been HTC policy.
HTC normally rejects an unlocked device for warranty if the error of the device is the direct result of unlocking the bootloader or placing a custom ROM. If the warranty has been rejected before, and the fault is an unlock or custom rom, we do not expect that the decision will be different now. We can say that with certainty, however, only if we have inspected the device in our repair center.
So.. you can either flash a ROM to try and see if the hardware is faulty, or just send it in for repair.

Did I mention the phone is used, I bought it on Ebay. I don't think it would have a warranty.

Yes, a digitizer replacement will solve the problem. I assume you've fixed it or moved on by now. For whomever else, the digitizer piece can be purchased on ebay for 40-45 dollars. There are youtube videos explaining how to disassemble the phone for the digitizer replacement. Good luck to all.

I haven't fixed it yet since I never got an answer, I've just been using an app called Button Savior which are on screen buttons but I'm not satisfied with them, but now that I know its the digitizer I will try and do it, although I'm scared I might mess up. Is there anyone that can do it for me?

Go to Craigslist for your city. There are people who will do this for $80 or so for this phone. And of course you can always use Google to find shops you can ship to. If you're good with your hands, the Youtube videos give a decent enough tutorial for a careful novice to complete the repair.

[Q] Black Screen of Death

My screen gets stuck during animations and randomly zooms in and glitches when it's working, but it's blank most of the time unless I apply pressure around the phone. Am I right to believe I have the "black screen of death?". Will HTC fix this out of warranty as it's a known hardware fault or will I be paying out of my own pocket as my bootloader is unlocked and the phone is loaded with a custom rom?
Thanks for the help
We can't answer that. If you are lucky then they replace it. But you say yourself that its already out of warranty and that you unlocked the bootloader. So it's very unlikely that they will pay for the costs.

Thanks Mr Hoffs, any idea of cost for fixing the device? I have the wifi fault too so I'm thinking it might just be easier to buy a new phone altogether
Hmm not sure. I know that here in the Netherlands a new screen via official dealer including replacement costs between 150 and 180 euroos. Don't know about a mainboard.....

root and hardware

Hi, so i got a G4 H815 and i can unlock my bootloader, but my only concern is that after unlocking it my warranty will be void.
So my question is does anyone have a hardware problem? Like screen problems or anything?
I unlocked my bootloader, but I didn't notice my digitizer is broken. It's really dysfunctional. Using multi-touch results in my phone thinking that I'm touching the screen at random locations. Scrolling is a pain in the arse as well.
I don't know whether I can send my phone to LG to just get it fixed. I should be, since the law in the Netherlands states that if it's a hardware fault, you still have warranty.
Returned my first G4 because of a faulty screen.
I had Bootloader unlocked it via LG Dev site and had no problem getting a new one.

I have personally not had a single issue that would make me need to take the phone back and swap it out.
I understand that you are nervous about that, but just be careful as far as drops and around liquids and you will be good to go buddy.
