What do u think guys Lineage OS will continue to use Stock android UI or they will bring a new refreshed ui with new icons??
icons are ok, maybe a a tone darker shade is welcome.
i think new ui is better than stock android
Stability should always be paramount. If your phone crashes constantly then the only pretty it will be is pretty useless. Keeping closer to stock theme and killing bugs should be priority.
Stock ui would be best. Let theming deal with anyone's desire for a different look
Why not shipping with a stock and a original themes?
I mean, the stock theme and theme engines are already there, right?
I think doesnt matter how good the new theme is, whatever is made different than stock will make some happy and other mad, this way you guys have more creative freedom to try wildly different things if you want, haters just use the stock theme and shut up.
Can even be chosen at the initial setup (or Aroma, not sure why CM never used it)
---------- Post added at 01:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:17 PM ----------
But why new icons and different graphics would impact stability?
Im pretty sure there are some guys with graphic design but no programming skills that could not help otherwise.

It depends on what new UI we are talking about... take MIUI for example, its a pretty decent ROM but I personally dont lik its Iphone-y UI.
That said, it doesnt matter if we have a theme engine and the option to use a stock(ish) UI

Correct, stock android consumes less ram compared to sense ui touchwiz ui etc
I think stock look! Honestly stock is better in most cases, and if you don't like stock then you can always add a theme on it
Also beauty is on the eye of the beholder, so no one can complain with stock

I seen these absolutely amazing lockscreens
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288096
but ive been informed they will only work with MIUI which is a real shame, does anyone know where i can get some of these lockscreens for our Galaxy S2, some amazing work there.
Thanks
No one knows how we can get these lockscreens for non MIUI?
i dont think they would be compatible with any of our roms...Cause its build for the MIUI and CM7 only i think..I think i have asked that before to GC and he said also it would be hard to get them over to us...I might be wrong but thats what i remember..

such a shame, CM7 and MIUI always seem to get the best themes and lockscreens, some of these lockscreens are stunning.
Can some themer or dev not manage to get these to work on non CM7 or MIUI ROM's?

Ok, I know there are a lot of threads with TW4.5 themes in the international GSII forums but I haven't been able to get any of them to work on our version...I was wondering if anybody had a link to something that has worked or the desire to port some of them.
I love this launcher, it's still got all of the functionality of stock TW but some cool features..so I'm trying to avoid going back to golauncher or LP to get a full theme...Really I just want to get rid of the darn Touchwiz icons in the dock, but one of the only things TW4.5 doesn't let you do is choose custom Icons. I'm not sure about the launcher.apk he linked, but for me all I did was install the manager.apk file and then find it in your app drawer "TW4 Manager", open then look under "check for updates & uninstall" then click latest stable version to get the newest one they have for release. Then you have to get to the launcher through the traditional channels (press home soft key, then if you're using a 3rd party launcher it will tell you to clear defaults (found in applications -> manage applications in main settings menu), or if using stock TW I believe it will just open up the typical window when there are multiple programs to complete the command, then click on the one you want)

Yeah, it's not perfect...but ultimately I'm surprised it's as good as it is considering the other options (LP, Go, ADW, etc.) that are probably a team of people doing full-time dev. I switched back to Golauncher EX because it's what I'm comfortable and it just used the screen better...smaller dock icons and better customization. I would love to keep some of the TW features though, and if there comes some nice themes for TW4.5 I'll be back.

Are you using Starburst Rom? If so, you may need to define which app is supposed to be opened with that button. If you are on starburst, go to menu, settings, lockscreen settings (at very bottom), overall ui settings, then click "long press search button app" and choose what you want to happen. Hope that's all that's wrong...I never had any unusual fc's on tw4.5 while I was using it.

Sorry about not responding sooner...been focused on the development threads and completely forgot about my own
I'm using LoStKernel Experimental and it has worked pretty well. I've been without a Loss of service since it's been installed (KNOCK ON WOOD). It's pretty quick and from what I can tell it does allow for overclocking. I'm not sure on this...but my SetCPU app says my phone has been at 1.4 GHz for a good amount of time and it must allow under clocking because it says I've been at 500 GHz for most of the time (that's my "screen off" setting).
Ultimately the under/over clocking would appeal to you for both speed & battery life. Stability might suffer a bit from this kind of thing BUT I haven't experienced any stability issues with the LoStKernel exp....that's not to say you won't because each piece of hardware is different and each persons app load and usage is completely different.
I have used the stock kernel, Zedo's 1.6 OC'd kernel, and most recently the LoStKernel, just for info.
Hope this helps!
PS - I switched to GoLauncher because I couldn't get themes to work either...so, yeah, I would suppose this thread is dead for the time being - but feel free to ask any other questions you might have for me & I'll try to get to 'em sooner. Subscribed now, so I'll notice.

I did the reset and I have cleared up most of the issues, it's just the overall feel of ICS which is 'bleh' to me I guess. Maybe once I root it and put a nom nom twang on it I'll change my mind. I was just curious if people who went from a rooted/flashed s2 to the stock ICS were a little disappointed like I was.
From my s2 (stock ICS)
I definitely wasn't disappointed in what ICS offers.
For a truer Android ICS experience (imo) you need to take a shot at AOKP! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654564
Eh I'm not too impressed with it either. Don't see much of a difference from gb except for the animations, the long press home for recent apps(which i never use). I didn't really want to update but since no one is working on gb roms or themes i decided to update

For you guys feeling underwhelmed-- are you using the stock Samsung launcher? Because that will leave you feeling like ICS was a minor upgrade. Try Apex launcher, free in Google Play. It's going to give you an ICS experience. Good luck!
The ICS update is completely and totally worthless as long as it still has TouchWiz on it. AOSP/AOKP is the way to go if you want the real ICS experience.

Maybe they were talking of the TouchWiz infrastructure, not only the launcher. I have to disagree though, to each there own taste. For now Touchwiz ROMS got AOSP beat in reliability and everything generally works (aka, Darkside vs AOKP or CM9) Reason being, Touchwiz was made and developed for the SG2, buy highly paid programmers and organizations. AOSP is more grass roots, its a labor if luv, for the most part. Ill take more time, but at the end, AOSP will be the one to have!!

I like nova launcher and all, but I'd really like to be able to use one of the original pull up app drawer, and if it could have some of the Cm theming as well, that would be great. I just kind of miss having it there, and would like it around just because I lived with it for years on my g1 and kind of liked how it worked.
Not exactly what your looking for but if you set it up right (just a single app drawer button activated from the bottom of the screen only) you could achieve something similar:

yeah...I'm really thinking something like a recompiled version of the android 1.6 stock launcher with an allowance for install on devices with 4.4. If someone wants to attempt this, I think the source code is downloadable from here: https://android.googlesource.com/platform/packages/apps/Launcher/ but I don't know how modifying it would work
I'm still looking for one...isn't there source code that someone could modify and compile?

Aside from the stickers which don't interest me, will themes look different on the 10? Or exactly the same as on the m8, m9?
I was particularly interested in the 'switches' in settings, the Quick Tiles, and the contacts/dialer.
I've only seen video of the stickers so far. Not a single reviewer seems to have tried a theme and then moved around the UI.
The UI has changed quite a bit. The strings menu now comes in the known and nearly stock Android look and contact pictures on the list view of the respective App are round instead of squares to name some of them.

Well I was sad to get a reply on reddit from a dude with the phone saying the themes don't change the colors/switches in the settings menu. See here:

Wish themes changed things like status bar icons, I'm not a big fan of Sense Wifi icons lol
Yes petty but im way too used to stock.
Regardless HTC's theme engine as I thought, looks lackluster in comparison to say Touchwiz's, which changes more elements of the UI e.g. menu's, notifcation tray etc

Well @sykopompos said this a while back in the google+ layers community...
"If any of you run across marshmallow OEM roms (not nexus or Android one, these are aosp) or get one for your device (I know the g4 has one out there), post them up.
Make a dump of the system, if you don't know how, just ask (be prepared to use adb)
Since layers works on stock marshmallow natively, it should work on any OEM marshmallow rom (besides cm obviously) and chances are high that the resources might be different and themes could be made/modified to work with these OEM Roms.
We are only interested in marshmallow Roms though since they will have full native support and the changes Google made in marshmallow."
Hopefully somebodys needs to get him a dump!
