Z00A no SIM after TWRP restore - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I updated to MM Bootloader in order to flash updates to latest beanstalk 6.0, I then flashed the latest Beanstalk but I started to have strange problems on the lockscreen and status bar not operating, so I restored LP bootloader and twrp and restored the TWRP backup I made before the update but after reboot I get no SIM. I then tried to install other N roms and they are working but after trying one I decided to go back to MM because N drains battery too much, but then I figured I can no longer flash MM roms as I get Error : 7 in twrp.
Any idea how to go back to normal or at least get MM roms working?

Maybe this will help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/guide-how-to-update-to-official-mm-t3452082

are you suggesting to revert back to stock?

Yes, because if the phone doesn't detect both sim slots, you'll have to look for another solution.

it actually works with N, the problem is only when restoring the backup and flashing MM roms

Lots of people confused about M bootloader.
MM custom roms are mainly LP based.
You have actual M based bootloader version which N is based.
You can only flash N based custom roms now, and restore them with 3.0.2M TWRP
Old M back ups , need 3.0.2.0 TWRP and LP bootloader
I point to this for an example , 3rd case in 2 days
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...ia-sd-card-t3520642/post70268019#post70268019

But I did downgrade to lp bootloader and 3.0.2.0 twrp before flashing the old rom build or trying the restore. I just don't understand why I loose sim. Does it matter if I was using octodex kernel in the backup I'm trying to restore?

There are numerous scenarios why you back ups might not restore , the twrp that you used at the time may have had a bug which if I remember rightly , mine did the same ..I think there were 2 out of 3 twrp 3.0.2.0 that were iffy .
Then , bootloader unlock too , I think I unlocked with sorgs with .13 and .20 LP but later wouldn't work on mine when in .184 or upwards .. but 1 year passed so ASUS unlock app was used .
Remember when you downgrade to 5 , your bootloader is locked again

I didn't know it gets locked when downgrading, but the restore works and besides the sim problem I didn't have any issues

And now you know
You will be able to flash MM roms again .
That was your original problem

Hi all,i am new here. I have my g3 d855 for 6 months. I rooted it,i have supersu, android 5.0,bought from UK. It was locked on vodafone,i unlocked it using imei. Now i have 2 questions:
1. If i resintall stock firmware(KK 4.4.2) ,my phone will be again locked on vodafone?
2. After i rooted it,i tried flash TWRP using flashify,it said it was successful, but when i tried enter in recovery mode,it said:boot security error. I finally succeed installing TWRP using autorec. Now,the question:can i upgrade android if i have twrp, thinking that soon android 6.0 will be out?(i will unroot it first using SuperSU settings).
I have stock 5.0 ,but if i try restore stock recovery it appears again boot error security. Thanks for patience and i hope i dont bother anyone,im still learning to use my phone

You simply dont want tot do that you need to wait for a original ROM that is modded ( just a simpel ROM with root en some uptions disabled like update ets ) why ??? Tot keep your bootloader the way it is now . if you still want original lg ROM you still can like always ( you can always flash a original ROM aslong you dont have a hardware failure ALWAYS !
If iets still locked if flashed normale ROM i dont know , i never go to original.( first thing i do is removing original ROM for ever !)

Twrp makes a full backup of the rom so if u do already a backup or stock rom you can restore it from twrp this app has those options

[Help me!] My Zenfone 2 always brick when I try to install a ROM

Hey! I have a Zenfone 2 ZE551ML (Z00A) which always brick when I try installing a new rom. The first time I tried installing RR and so, I downgraded to Lollipop so that could use Asus official tool to unlock my bootloader, then I flashed a TWRP recovery (I'll post the file here) through fastboot and booted to recovery mode. I used the TWRP recovery to then install ASUS rom for Android 6.0 (because the RR thread says I must have Android 6 previously installed) then I restarted and.... got bricked. To unbrick, I used this tutorial from here (one that teached me how to use xFSTK and fastboot to bring my phone back to life) and then unlocked the bootloader and flashed the TWRP recovery, did the update to 6.0 then when I tried to flash RR TWRP says I can't install it (I got error 7) the I reboot and got bricked again. Can someone here please help me?

There's a lot going on here. You need to spend some time reading through the threads. Basically, you can't flash the official asus rom with twrp. It requires stock recovery. And you need to be sure to have the correct bootloader for the custom rom you are installing. Basically, Lollipop roms based on stock rom and Cm13 based roms need Lollipop bootloader. Marshmallow roms based on stock mm rom and LinOS 14.1 based roms need the Marshmallow bootloader. That's where your error 7 was coming from.
Again, read the first post of the Rom you want to install carefully. It should tell you what you need.

The RR rom tells me I need Android 6 but the Official way to unlock the bootloader doesn't work with Android 6. How am I supposed to unlock it? If it helps, here is the link to rom I'm trying to install: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/development/rom-resurrection-remix-m-5-8-0-t3507247.

Like I said, you need to read through the threads. Go to the resources and the index threads in the general section. And look at the first posts there. Also find the modder tool thread. It's a very useful multipurpose tool for all kinds of things.

well when you flashed custom Rom you risked it..
any ways. reboot your device in fastboot mode. if you want to flash MM then flash latest MM bootloader, boot, recovery, fastboot, ifwi. if want to flash LP then LP bootloader.
then reboot to recovery mode factory reset and sideload the firmware for which you flashed bootloader..
you haven't mentioned your device model number.

I guess that you cannot resolve the "blue-screen issue" without the QFIL method, which is required if the boot-loader of your device is too old, as it was mine.
I have already briefly reported how I did, but I will try to do it again in a more detailed form.
You need a Windows PC and Qualcomm QPST, read this carefully: https://zukfans.eu/community/threads/howto-flash-a-stock-zui-rom-zuk-z2-z2131-only.104/
You need a ZUI QPST archive above version 3.1 as reccomended by the OP, I used this: ZUI 3.5.389 https://drive.google.com/open?id=1xWGFtcMZhMeOAsmASj4fwJzzbHOZZwdj
I failed to use the method 1: using the command "adb reboot edl" (my device was just shutting-down and never enter into EDL mode as requested by QFIL.
I used successfully the method 2: using Volume+ and Power buttons:
1. disconnect USB cable and turn the phone completely off
2. press volume-up, and keep it pressed until further notice
3. press power button, keep it pressed for about 1/2 a second (yeah, that timing thing...)
4. insert usb cable (both volume-up and power still pressed at this point)
5. wait for short vibration - you should also see the ZUK logo flash on screen for a split second
6. now you can release both power and volume-up, you should already see the USB device coming up on PC
If anything different happens, just disconnect, power-off and start again... Have fun!
When you finish the flashing of the ZUI QPST ROM, you should reboot and set the 4G to extended capabilities, in case you have VoLTE on your area.
Then you need to verify if your boot-loader is still unlocked (as mine was) in case it being locked you must proceed to unlock it again as you did the first time.
Then you have to flash the recovery.img (I used TWRP).
Finally you have to flash the TWRP with Treble support (z2_plus_treble-TWRP-3.2.2_kubersharma_v2.img) and factory_to_vendor.zip (factory2vendor_z2_plus.zip).
If all the above end up correctly, you can proceed to flashing AEX 6.0 official and Gapps*
* Note: I used older version of nano Gapps arm64 android 9 (open_gapps-arm64-9.0-nano-20181009.zip) because the newer release was not allowing to restore my Google backup.
Hope you could get some help with my description!
