I want to replace the circular Moto 360 watchscreen by a normal bigger rectangular (iphone/samsung galaxy/motorola) PHONE screen. Connecting pin is important. Which phone screen can I use (can it be any) ? I just want to use the electronics of Moto 360, but with a BIGGER display. This project is not for a watch. Trying to use Moto 360's brain in a bigger display. Can anyone please help

This is probably not possible.
The circuitry and operating system are all created with the assumption that they will be connected to a screen of a certain size and shape, and that receives data in a certain format. If you connect a different sized screen, the watch hardware doesn't know how to send information that can be correctly displayed.

I was playing with my GF's Nook the other day and thinking about what a nice size it is for e-Reading. Now, I realize it has a higher screen resolution that WP7 doesn't support, so I wasn't thinking of going that far.
But I did get to thinking: is there a 7", 800x480 capacitive screen on the market that could be made to simply "plug in" via the same type of connector as the focus uses, and just work? In that case it wouldn't be *too* difficult to transplant the rest of the focus' guts into a bigger chassis (maybe adding a bigger battery since the extra space would be there anyway). Anybody thought about this or have some idea what one would look for?
Thanks!
So I'm guessing nobody has any idea or interest in exploring said idea?
The chances of that working are pretty darn slim. I'm not really into the hardwaret thingy, but I'm pretty sure you would need to know what interface to the display is used on both devices. They need to be the same, or you'll need to find a way to convert the signals, which means a lot of work and room for error I guess.
I would say it's possible, if you find a device with the right resolution and display interface/controller.
The display itself should work, since a display is just a display... It only receives data what to display. But dunno if the touchscreen would work out of the box, maybe different systems use different protocols in sending/receiving/processing data from the touch panel... But then again, I don't have my diploma yet
The displays must have the same controller. Or using the controller from the Focus - but don't forget, that it is AMOLED, so it might work totally different.
I don't think it is possible without too much effort. You should get some x86 tablet and run WP7 emulator on it . Or make an app for the W7 that looks like WP7.
Basically you would need to have two drivers, or make the other side compatible with existing drivers.
The screen and the touch panel.
I don't know what type of touch panel you have, but WP7 uses capacitive screens, this is a big requirement because you won't work around it easily.
The way the positioning data is transfered matters allot, because this can kill the accuracy at the least.
Next, the screen needs to know how to display the data received from your device, I assume the connector won't fit out of the box so thats the first challenge. Then you need to make sure it's receiving the correct data over the correct lines. It is not the same as plugging in a D-SUB/DVI cable.
So, if you have knowledge of some hardware modifications (electro) then you will stand a chance, otherwise you'll probably end up wasting two devices.
If you can spare both, I would say go for it. Otherwise I would think twice if I were you.
Yeah, I'm way too lazy (well, too busy with school) for all that . I was just randomly thinking about it the other day, how nice it'd be to have WP7 on a decent sized screen for an ereader, given that the Kindle app works great on the device. I guess I was hoping that there might exist, essentially, an "embiggened" version of the exact same screen, with the same connector, to simply be driven off the Focus' existing controller and hardware. Capacitive, obviously--WP7 on Resistive would lick all kinds of donkey balls, I'm sure.
In my case,
1. Battery life: I wake up at 6 and go to bed at midnight. The bigger battery, and the transreflective display gives me some peace of mind that I'll not worry that my smartwatch will die when I need it. Also, love the idea of monitoring my sleep and setting an alarm to wake me up at the ideal time (instead of being in the table recharging).
2. Square display: Although round watch faces look classy, I don't like the idea of wasting screen real state for a fancier look.
3. Android Wear: Definitely Google got it right (Unlike Samsung or Apple). A smartwatch complements the smartphone (not replace its features). Simplicity to dismiss discretely notifications, or get directions while using the smartphone for other purpose, or keeping it in your pocket whithout the hassle of picking it up every time I get another notification.
4. Display: As an Ingress player, I'm frequently outside. Sunlight can make most screens difficult to read, or waste too much energy to give maximum luminosity. Transreflective display uses the ambient light, making it perfectly readable at direct sun light and saving energy.
My reason is the mix of fitness watch for running + multimedia (music) without the phone. If that is a BIG YES, all the other features for the rest of the day are welcome but not the main reason to wear it.
For me it would be:
The builtin GPS: ability to hace mapa on the watch even without a phone, or with the phone in a bag or somewhere else with poor reception
Reflective LCD: The benefits of a color screen without the disadvantages of a backlighted one (e.g. no always on, too-bright in the dark, etc.)
microUSB port: no stupid dock that breaks/get lost easily, no proprietary magnetic charging, no fiddling required to get a USB console.

VEREDICT: LG G Watch R is better for me!
1) LG always shows the time: dim or full. Moto goes black if you do not watch it or move it. So if you, like me, sometimes remove the watch and put n the table, you do not see the time
2) Battery last long but is indifferent anywaybecause you should recharge both ever night
3) You can flash other kernel without special cable
Moto 360 is best for me in:
1) Design
2) Size. It is slim but even screen is higher it has a dead zone at the botton
I have a Moto X 2013. It doesn't have all the fancy features of the Moto X (2014) or even the Nexus 6, but I believe it made use of its sole proximity sensor to perform a really slick implementation of Moto Display. It used the proximity sensor to identify when you are picking up the phone or when your hand is close to the phone and accordingly show the time on the screen. It also pulsated the notification on screen when there was a notification. Very responsive and efficient. Is there some app that can emulate this for the Nexus 5X? Why not use the Nexus's proximity sensor all the time like the Moto X to identify when we are picking up the phone? What is the limitation here?

since Moto X 2013 used an Amoled display. It could turn on few pixels on the screen to show you pulsated notifications and not drain the battery or heat up the device, Nexus 5x unfortunately uses a LCD screen so turning on few pixels on the screen is out of the question even if someone force the feature onto N5X it'll led to Huge battery drain + Heat up so in short ITS NOT POSSIBLE.

The 2015 Moto X has a LCD display and functions just as the 2013 Moto X did with an AMOLED display. The '15 didn't heat up and the battery drain wasn't as bad as you would think. However, the whole display turning on was annoying and one of the reasons I turned Moto Display off and eventually sold the phone.
I wasn't even talking about '15 version. Though you answered it yourself.

That does not answer my question. I am fully aware that due to the LCD screen, it cannot just turn on some pixels. But, what I want is an app that can use the proximity sensor to identify when we are using the phone or picking up the phone and then turn the screen on for displaying the notification. That should be doable right?

You suggested that the 5X would heat up and it would kill the battery because of the screen tech. You are wrong. The 2015 moto x is the proof. RIF, princess.

You might want to take a look at Gravity Screen, from the Play Store.
I use Dynamic Notifications on my old GNex that I have lying around. It works pretty much like the moto x's active display. There are options to have it sense when its pulled out of your pocket or picked up off a table, but I don't remember if those are only in the full version or the free one as well.

Thanks, I tried it and seems to work. But also, it seems to be a little aggressive with the turning the display off thing that my display seems to turn off very very quickly even when I am using it.

I will try this out as well.
@PiousInquisitor I assume you haven't tried Tap2wake feature on ElementalX ? It eats alot of battery life hence heating up my device not that much but still. Do your research before you reply kid
BTW With Moto X 2014 there is something with the Display that doesn't cause it to heat up. Just like on G2,G3,G4.

Tap to wake and Moto Display are two different things, tiger. Try again.

Is Ambient display like on stock marshmallow what you want then?
Lights up the screen in a sort of monochrome to display time/notifications only on lock screen when you pick up the phone.
"AC display" app is a great substitute for moto display. Combined with double tap2wake when phone is out of pocket and you're all set.

It does not eat *a lot* of battery, just a tiny bit. And does not heat your device at all.
Hello, so my Moto 360's battery was dying, randomly shutting off, so I cracked open the back and replaced the battery!
BAM.
NOw... my moto 360's display is dying... the colors are all weird, like the reds aren't showing, sometimes after charging there is a LOT of screen burnt in (goes away), and now there are lines going up and down.
SO, is there a fix for this? I'll replace the LCD panel if I could, but I can't seem to find one...
looks to be done for?
MAN, there is no smartwatch I want! I wish moto would make a version 3!
I want:
1. NFC (for payments)
2. GPS
3. ALL round display
4. Good looks
i'd like the LG watch sport, but the battery life is not great, and you can't change the watch bands... OH, and it's HUGE.
Misfit watch looks good... but is that a reliable company? not even out yet.
sigh.
Thanks for any input!
