Bought my sister a tab s as a gift.
Brother flew home with it, in carry on.
Was working fine, then "randomly" overnight decided to do this.
Looks to me like the LCD just killed itself, but has anyone experienced any like this.
its the infamous battery issue I think...
mine was like that several times before I decided to change the battery under warranty, and working perfectly since....

Interesting. Do you have any specific information regarding this issue that might justify a replacement from Samsung? Is there a self-fix?
Check on youtube for a guide on how to take the T700 apart it`s quite easy, check the battery connector, check the display cable.
The 8.4" has a lot of problems with connectors becoming loose, I think it`s because it can be bent without breaking inside pants pockets ect gradually loosening the connectors, You cannot do that with the 10.5"
John.
Thanks John. Will send this along to my bro.

Hi Friends,
I took over a tab 8.0 Lte from my dad but there seems to be a big problem with it. The tab keeps heating up even in idle and battery drain is fast and constant. From full to 0, the graph is a constant downslope going flat in about 3hrs. This happens even after I hard resetted it. I open up the back and found the part that is heating up. I am starting to think that the motherboard is damaged rather than the battery need a change. The metal part is HOT. I cant touch it for more than 2 sec. Even in idle.
I attached the part in the pic, hopefully someone can help me to identify the problem. Thanks lots in advance!!

It seems you open the rear cover the wrong way as it still have the frame cover around the back. It should open from the front.
You don't tell exactly model , I'm not sure what it is but most of this problem is from cracked battery connector. Re solder the black battery connector will fix it.
This is the proper way to open the rear, do like you did will damage the rear cover, it won't snap back as some plastic locking tabs are broken.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_I2uLqRghAg
This is the black battery connector which need to be re soldered
Ya I opened from the back.. Yes.. Realised some of the locking tabs are broken. :/ took the instructions from ifixit.. The connector looks, feel perfectly fine though..

Trust me it looks fine with bare eyes but not under microscope. Re solder the battery connector will fix the quick discharge, overheating. It takes only under 5 minutes to get it done, this problem is common in Samsung tablets.
Okie.... I give it a try. My last soldering experience was like 15yrs ago....
I just opened up the tab again and have a look at the connector.. It's so freaking tiny! How on earth is someone able to do it?..? I think if I were to do it, I would solder at least 3 pins together in one shot.......
You need magnified glass and small tip iron to do the rework,
Otherwise you will short it
HI.. I have the Tab 3 8" SM-T315
2 weeks ago, it wouldn't charge up all the way, and the battery ran down SUPER fast.. Even when powered off.
It's about 4-5 years old, so I paid for a new battery to be put in.
Guess what?? Same deal.. The thing gets hot in the upper left corner EVEN when powered off.
And the thing is discharging like crazy.
Plus it wont fully charge at all.
I cant get no more that 2hours on the battery after about 2/3'rds charge (that's all she'll take) when on, and when off, the hot corner is still there..
Well maybe not real HOT, but more than warm. ON, Charging, and OFF.. still stays good and warm, on and off the charger.
Can any-1 care to make a few assumptions??
This came on all of a sudden with NO additional apps installed in over 6 months.
F/R, wipes, etc.. Flashed latest rom from Sammobile last week.
Thanks alot to all who reply.
Youtube disassembly videos of it on youtube see what's in that corner. Bluetooth? Wifi? GPS chip? See what's bad. It's most likely a hardware issue. Any drops or water damage?

Thanks for replying, nope no drops, no water damage, no nothing. It's sat for about 3 months with no activity. But did charge up fine. I used it for about 2 weeks then all of a sudden one day I noticed it wouldn't charge up all the way and the corner was hot. Just last night I got it to charge to 90%. Powered it down, and in the morning battery is completely dead. Something is making a discharge even a while it is off. I guess I need to find somebody who can work on it.
Most likely unless you're comfortable with disassembly. Like I said what's bad maybe easily replaceable. I bought a wifi Antenna for my s3 on ebay for like 3 bucks new

Thanks again , nemisans13.!! I think I would like to try this assembly, I would feel comfortable doing that, but I have no way to test for bad components once I get the cover off. I've seen the YouTube videos how to change the battery. I feel confident I can get the cover off and look around. But I wouldn't have any idea on which component is bad. Can you help out on that?
Thanks again
Wish I could. Why I said look up what's in that corner on youtube see if it's replaceable and doesn't need resoldering or anything crazy like that

Well, nemisans, i just called 2 places here in STL. The 2 most popular, FoxPaw being one of them.
And they said that they do not do the micro soldering stuff and chip replacements. Only screens, charging ports, etc..
SO it looks like im gonna have to mail it to Detroit.
Any favorite location that you recommend?
Thanks
Any of them should get u fixed up
Hi and thank you for checking my thread
I have a problem with my G3 as described in the tittle, I did the Paper trick I saw on YouTube but sadly it didn't work
After a while I found out that placing a piece cut from Credit card under the CPU might work and I did , but one week later I had the same problem, likely I can just click sleep button and it returns to normal
After these many problems I decided to give up on it and sell it, but I need a permanent Fix so I don't get involved in Cheating
Also , does replacing motherboard will fix the issue ?
Does G4 Worth it now ? I know about bootloop problem
Probably is a bad motherboard
When my G3 finally died (digitizer went bad), I just replaced it with a used G4 for $150. That was like 6 months ago. The phone has been phenomenal. I know there is many who say that every G4 will bootloop eventually, but I really don't see how thats possible if you just browse google for the issue. Yeah, a lot of people had the problem, but if everyone did you wouldn't see the G4 still being sold at a ton of outlets, and you would see hundreds of links to the issue. I think there was a large batch of them that were bad... and they got past QC, but the vast majority of them are probably fine.

Yea, i saw "1 month/year after" Reviews on youtube and no one montion the bootloop issue, people ask them in comments and they reply that the phone works normal with no issues
Thank you for replying dude appreciate it
I was skeptical at first, but by baking the motherboard in the oven did the trick for me. It has been a couple of hours now an no flickering, no black screen and no troubles. And i know i'm asking for Murphy to come and bite my as*, but as a little trick, i'd like to suggest before putting the mobo in the oven to try something: i have an old Akasa X4 cpu cooler which has metal fins which are removable. I took one of those things and cut a square a little bit smaller than the power IC to the right of the SoC and then cut another one the exact same size then stacked the two one on top of each other, making sure to not short any capacitor around the IC and then put the metal shield back, making sure to put pressure on the IC. Then preheated the oven at roughly 180 degrees celsius, then put the motherboard SoC face up into the preheated oven on three balls of aluminium foil, one at the bottom near the micro usb, and the others to balance the motherboard, like a BMW Isetta, and put the timer for 10 minutes. After these nervous 10 minutes, I took out the mobo and let it to cool at room temperature for ~30 minutes. And voila, now it works. I do hope that it is going to last, and i will be very careful with this phone, unlike the previous owner. Seriously, how can you put a freaking button (small one, from a shirt) between the SoC and the mid-frame? Crazy. And that's why i got it for ~8000 JPY (about 70 bucks).

I had a similar problem for about two months. I tried the paper thing over the camera sensor and I felt like it helped some but the problem still continued. The screen would just slowly go dark with vertical lines running through it. All apps would still work in the background while this was happening. I could boot to TWRP and this problem never happened while in TWRP which was odd. Seemed like if it was a screen issues or hardware malfunction it would happen all the time. That's when I decided to just flash back to stock. I was thinking about getting the S8 anyways so what the hell. I flashed to stock 10B and took every single OTA. Took all night but I've been running stock for over a day now and the issue has not replicated itself one time since reverting back to stock. I was on RR Nougat and Fulmics when it happened prior. Has to be a root or Rom issue?

Just wondering if your G3 is still functioning without the issue.
It really feels like a hardware issue but as you pointed out it didn't happen in TWRP... but like many, I encounter the issue when the phone gets a bit warm (>35C), so maybe TWRP and your stock android is not as hot as RR Nougat? Then again, I'm on MM when this happened...
Update: Actually the flicker n fade happened to me in TWRP while I was backing up. The temperature read about 60C.
I had bigger problems with my g3 and they started as follows
Problem 1. camera not being detected and crashing. 2. Reboot once a while which got worse over time. 3. Bluetooth sketchy and WiFi not connecting. 4. Sd card being ejected and mounted constantly. 5. Mobile data stopped working.
Solution: baked it in the oven 10min with cpu side up at 185c removed to cool 4 30min. Problems gone for the meantime.
This morning at work my D852 died with the exact same screen fades to black and would only stay on for at most like 10 seconds and would only come on again after the processor cooled enough. I came across this youtube video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF1s4RCZAvc
Since I didn't have any copper foil tape, I substituted with Aluminum foil tape and placed the tape in the same places as detailed in the video. (copper works better than aluminum for heat dispersal)
My phone is now back to normal and hasn't shown any issues with the past 5 hours since I applied the fix.
UPDATE: My phone has worked perfectly for several days now until I turned on the GPS from Cell Tower to High Accuracy and it immediately started to die again. Once it cooled down I was able to get to the settings screen to turn off GPS and it went back to functioning like normal
How to fix
I tried the paper trick and it did not work. No need to replace the motherboard or the phone. The issue is just a bad connection between the motherboard to the LCD display.. Probably due to dirt (in my case, I found that quite a few places in my motherboard had corrosion buildup). Here is the fix...
1. Remove battery cover and Unscrew The back plastic from the base of the phone to get to the motherboard.
2. Disconnect all the connectors from the motherboard.
3. Scan the motherboard for anything unusual. (My motherboard had corrosion on several different places).
5. Clean any dirt or corrosion with lint-free cloth. (I didn't have one so I had to use a Q-tip).
*if needed, Dip the cloth in rubbing alcohol to assist in cleaning. make sure that the cloth is JUST BARELY Damp and not dripping, otherwise you will risk water-damaging the phone. If you use rubbing alcohol, make sure that you dry the spot right after you wipe it.
6. Once you have cleaned the motherboard, check the base of the phone and clean any dirt from here also.
7. Replace the motherboard, re-connect the connections, screw on the back, and put the battery cover back on.
Viola! Mine has been working like new for 4 days so far with no issues...

So a permanent fix is a new motherboard or a new screen?
Hello everybody
it happens suddenly, for no reason, on a resurrection remix rom which worked fine for years: after a charge, my display started working erratically (working/not working, twinkle?randomly... i don't know the exact english term).
Just in case, i changed of rom and switched to the official lineage rom here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/rom-lineageos-14-1-sm-t800-t3545080
i followed all the procedure but nothing changed after that, my display acting still erratically.
When i boot, i have the "kernel is not seandroid enforcing" message on top/left before booting into the lineage rom, i don't know what does it mean and if it could be related to my display issue. i don't remember if it was there when i had the previews rom though....
Could it be a kernel issue?
i looked to this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/tab-s-8-4-wifi-6-0-1-update-restarts-t3465133
but my problem seems different, since i have display issue (randomly!) even where i am start booting (when we see the samsung logo for exemple).
i tried the battery trick, i even bought a new one ;p, but it changes nothing :/
At this point, i don't know if it is finally a software or a hardware issue....
i am open to any suggestion, a link, an assistance in that matter would be greatly appreciated!
thank you
kind regards from France
The number 1 reason for flickering display on the S1 is loose battery connection, this affects the T7** a lot more than the T8** make sure the connector is soldered firmly to the motherboard and the plug half has a tight fit on all the pins, some solder the battery directly to the motherboard to fix the problem.

Somehow, i don't think it is, in my case, a connector problem as i tried electronic contact spray and the connector seems pretty sturdy too.
i think it is, when i touch the screen that the flickering display begins the most and i hear a dim sound each time the screen flickers.... i am beginning to think it is a screen defect after all....:/
kind regards from France
See if you can find a full teardown of an T800 on youtube, see if there is an connector for the display and check if it loose, have you dropped or bumped your T800, do you game on it, lots of hits to the screen could have caused a fault.
It`s a shame i love my T800, Maybe sell it on ebay as faulty and get the new S4 when it released it`s supposed to have and 16:9/10 display.

Yes i love my T800 too, i bought at a very cool price a Z4 tablet, but bootloader is locked on this one(some kind of stupid lotery, imho)((
I just purchased the tab s3 at a cool price, i didn't know the tab s4 would be 16:9/10 but for gaming, 4:3 isn't a problem:/
Thank you again for your feedback!:good:
[EDIT] i followed your advice and canceled my Tab S3 purchase: i wil wait patiently for the Tab S4, thank you for that too.
Good evening,
Since a short time I have problems with my Tab S (10.5 LTE)
The display is now flickering so hard that the tablet can hardly be operated.
Initially, it was only after starting, but now it's getting worse.
Today I unplugged the connector to the battery and connected it again, just like the display flat cable, without change ...
Here I attached a video that shows the problem: https://www.android-hilfe.de/attachments/20180725_231014-mp4.648541
What could it be? The battery that makes the bend after 4 years or something else like the display cable or even the display itself? The battery for 20-30 € I wanted to change anyway, even if the current still holds pretty well. Could not explain to me why the flickering should come from a battery.
What do you think? Who had the same problem and could solve it?
Thanks and regards
Hi, I've faced similar problems.

Sadly, you may not fix it.
Hope this helps.
I was having this problem as well. I just reseated the battery in the device (power connector) and it seems to have gotten better.

Actually I'm having the same problem but on my Tab S2. It happens once the battery depletes below 30%. I believe the problem is down to the battery depleting so much that it can't power the display and/or higher clock speeds. The solution is definitely to replace the battery.
Thanks for the information.
I did that, replaced the battery and also the flex cable for the display but no success, the problem still persists
It seems that my mainboard is broken somehow or the touchscreen and the Tab S is not repairable anymore..
I will maybe buy an used one again or wait for the Tab S4

Same.
Sadly my SM-T800 screen started having this flicker problem. Nothing helps. The battery connector "looks good", but then I don't have the eyesight to see what's really going on. The logic board on the T800 has a very unfortunate packaging where the battery connector is next to a heatsink. I certainly couldn't resolder it myself even if I tried. I guess this is the end of road for my Tab S.
