When 14.1 was first introduced, I immediately flashed it and noticed that the tethering and portable hotspot option was greyed out. I moved onto a few others ROMs since and decided to give it a go hoping that they finally sorted it out and alas I still don't have the option. However, I searched around a bit and noticed some people were saying that it works for them, so I immediately wiped everything and flashed some different firmwares files and still nothing.
So my question is; Is the lack of the tethering and portable hotspot a known bug or have I just not installed something that needs to be? Thanks!
Your not the only one that noticed it only I was at a customers house that didn't have internet when I noticed it on mine
That's aggravating. My partner's OnePlus 2 has the same issue so I'll just stick with Sultan's CM for the time being.

I've been searching around and I don't see anyone else having this problem. I have kept my galaxy nexus stock since I purchased it the day it came out. I started paying for tethering this week and I've been having a huge problem with it.
When I enable the wi-fi hotspot for the first time it works excellently. I get amazing 20Mbs down and everything is rainbows an ponies. If I then disable it and enable it again I am able to connect to the hotspot just fine but I get no internet connection.
I'm starting to think it's possible I have a defective device and might need to get it swapped out. I've seen a few blog posts that seem to mention issues with the Verizon nexus wi-fi hotspot but no real fourm activity regarding it.
My other option is to wait for the Jelly Bean update and see if anything gets better. Or rooting and seeing if it happens to work. I'd rather root for fun though not to get something I'm paying out the ass for to work.
Thanks for any help
When I'm running an AOSP Rom, my Wifi only scans for networks after a fresh boot. Once it has connected to a network, no more scanning happens, no matter how often I tell it to. It's quite an annoyance when I have to reboot my phone every time I leave home and want to connect to a coffeeshop Wifi outside.
Once it is connected, there are not further issues - signal is good, no random disconnects or anything. Just no scanning.
Everything works fine on stock, and I've successfully tried ViperX with Sense 5, but all AOSP Roms I've been trying recently had this behavior - I have no idea what's causing it. Maybe it's an issue with the CM kernel (most Roms use some form or other of it)?
I really have no idea. Thought I'll post a question here while I go do some more troubleshooting of my own.
I also just grabbed a snippet of what I hope is the relevant part of the logs: https://paste.xinu.at/WO9zZ/
On second thought, maybe it's not AOSP based, but rather 4.3. I haven't spent much time on 4.2 with this phone, so I don't remember if the problem existed back then. If I don't find a solution, I will downgrade later to make sure.
Solved Somewhat... Not really. Worked-around maybe.
I rolled back to CM 10.1.2, and the problem went away. Seems like it wasn't AOSP causing the problem, but the new always-on feature in 4.3, which allows scanning for networks even though Wifi is switched off. I've done some searching, and other people on all kinds of devices have had problems with Wifi since this change was implemented.
Once I disabled this feature and toggled Wifi off/on once, the problem seems to be gone on CM 10.2. Not quite a proper solution, but I guess I can live with that for now, I don't really have the time, energy or experience to look into this further. Maybe somebody more enlightened than I has a proper solution.
Hoping this might ring a bell with anyone who has fiddled around with the GN and CM11.
The CM11 update notification won me over and I pushed CM11 (11-20140308 snap - toro) a few weeks ago.
Interestingly enough I saw a HUGE battery drain improvement. Possibly an oddity unless others have noticed this too.
Anyway, the big issue when using CM11 is random data blackouts. The phone can be on 3G, 4G, or Wifi and it will act like there is no data access. eBay app and Chrome give the 'no connection' type error with other things like email just not updating.
The fix so far is to reboot the phone. As soon as it comes back up the data portion works perfectly. Not the most time effective solution especially if trying to get important data on the go.
I know Google has marked this phone as past it's prime in terms of support, but with CM still supporting builds for this device I'm hoping something may sound familiar and somebody could give some words of wisdom for this problem. With the Nexus 6 device slotted to be released in the summer/fall timeframe I'm holding out on replacing the GN.
Ideas anyone?

well yes but I was also interested if anyone else may have been experiencing this.
if this is the same issue I've seen in some ROM threads then yes you aren't alone.
instead of doing a reboot, have you tried toggling airplane mode on then off? if that works, you'll spend way less time vs waiting for boot up
glad to know I wasn't alone on this one!
The 'no network found' issue just came up a minute ago. Probably had tried the airplane mode before but in a hurry I defaulted to restart.
The quick switch between AP mode and back did bring the connection back, although with the phone starting up fairly quickly the different between doing AP mode or restarting seems to be differently by only a second or two.
If this has been seen with some ROMs, what have people turned to as an alternative?
Anyone facing this issue
Does anyone know any fix
Yes mines the same, wifi works fine for a short amount of time then disconnects, after it cuts out goto wifi settings and all I see is scanning and no wifi devices. only way I can get wifi working again is a reboot but then I get disconnecting again after short period of time!
EDIT: I would just like to add until I updated to nougat yesterday I've never experienced this issue and I did a master reset straight after installing nougat.
I am having this same problem. Any fix for this?
Same thing here. It happened to me after the first night. I thought maybe something was corrupted after the upgrade, so I did a full factory reset yesterday morning. Everything worked fine until I got up this morning. Looks like something over the course of the night causes this to start.
Things I've tried without success:
- factory reset
- rebooting
- removing and re-adding wifi network
- tested all other devices in the house (no other device is having an issue)
- tried both 2.4 and 5ghz networks (issue is affecting both)
UPDATE: After a few hours, I turned wifi back on yesterday, and it's been working fine since. I made no changes to the phone.
Faced same problem with developer preview
Before the official release of Android 7.0 I installed two Android beta preview, 3 and 5, and had the same issue I uninstalled the previews and had no problems with version 6.1. I hoped that this would be fixed with the official version but It wasn't, Im still facing the same problems with wifi disconnecting.
Edit: When I had the previews the only way that the phone would seem to remain connected was to go into the router options and change the client lease time. I never fully tested this because I uninstalled the previews within a couple of days. I guess I'm going to have to test it this time.

Maybe this thread could help you guys, didn't try, and as it is for nexus 5, do every operation carefully.
Flashed back to 6 as the WiFi issue was unbearable, working perfectly fine again now. I was also getting major battery drain on 7.0.
Hi
I found a strange solution working for me. I had bluetooth disabled, since I have enabled bluetooth today, 5 GHz connection is stable - Pls test it and update. And pls don't ask me, why these two protocols are in any way related...

Didn't work for me.
This problem had disappeared for weeks and then started rearing its head again yesterday although I had made no changes to my phone. For the record, it's happening on both frequencies for me.
Last time, the issue magically disappeared. After it didn't go away over night, I restarted my router this morning, and now it's working fine.
To clarify, I don't think it's router related, though. I have an R7000 that's working perfectly with all other phones and other devices in the house. It's the same router the 5x was connected to before Nougat started causing these issues.
Apparantly 7.1 solves the issue

I'm looking for recommendations for a ROM for the exynos S7 flat that can be reliably left unattended with hotspot enabled. I've tried a couple of lineage OS ROMs and a couple of note FE based ROMs, and I've had problems of one kind or another with the hotspot on all of them.
With the lineage ROMs, it's been that the hotspot will kick connected devices off, and won't let them reconnect again until I turn the hotspot off and on again. This isn't to do with the timeout settings, the hotspot is still active when this happens.
With the NFE ROMs, the phone crashes and reboots sometimes while using the hotspot, more so when plugged in, less often while running from battery. Often it will go for a couple of hours without happening, but it's happened enough times during large, non resumable downloads for it to be a problem.
I'd be happy to roll back to a ROM based on stock oreo if it will give me the stability I need, I rely entirely on my personal hotspot for internet. I would just concede that I'm asking too much from the personal hotspot feature, but I used my galaxy note 3 for years, running official lineage OS, and the hotspot was always extremely reliable.
Thanks.
Strange problem you've got, I use G930FD and I didn't had problems with most ROMs regarding hotspot (except on Slim AOSP Nougat ROM, which was already in the bug list).
You may be having a rare Wi-Fi chip, which requires a specific driver, maybe you should check custom Kernels available for AOSP & Stock-based ROMs.
I used to leave the hotspot on all night downloading stuff on the laptop, and another guy was connecting too. I also use ADB over WI-Fi. It never crashed or did any of what you're saying.
