How to back to stock and get back ota - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Hi. I'm now on unlocked htc 10 with s-on. How can I back to clean, stock, oryginal condition? I tried to flash stock via ruu.exe and adb but it is failed. Relocking bootloader nothing helped. I tried some things but i got lost in this many theards. I will be very grateful if somebody help me and show me instructions. Actually i'm on m firmware.

boot into fastboot & paste the command below
copy the results & post here (remove imei from the post)
PHP:
fastboot getvar all
As you mentioned flashing the leaked nougat ruu ill assume you're on 401.x FW with the lastest ruu being 1.90.401.5
1. install twrp, restored untouched system & boot image, flash stock recovery
2. s-off downgrade to 1.90.401.5 , relock bootloader & run ruu
i see you edited your post
1. Rename zip to 2PS6IMG.zip
2. Copy zip onto sd card
3. Boot into download mode (download mode should detect the 2PS6IMG.zip)
4. Press volup to flash
Also flashing this will wipe your data , and it may render your phone *impossible* to receive future ota updates as it's an unofficial release from htc.
For example: lets say htc released a new nougat ota which updates you phone to 2.3x.401.x , that ota may only update phones on FW 1.95.401.4 & not 2.28.401.9
You would still be able to flash a 2.3x.401.x or above ruu (if available) or you could s-off & downgrade to 1.95.401.4 then accept ota
Personally i wouldn't flash it as yet as the official OTA is only around the corner (HTC said Q4)

@Diz so the 2.28.x is for unofficial/developers? Can I do it on unlocked bootloader?
Ps. i want to do it without s-off

Hi,
i have S-ON, bootloader unlocked, root, 2.13.401.3
after this update 2.26.401.3 stay still bootloader unlocked?
EDIT: maybe i need S-OFF, not possibly update my mobile...
you need to relock the bl in order to install any ruu.
i had a hard time updating my phone to 2.26
if you take a look at the first thread for this update, the ota update, there are details for how to update to this version and still keep bl-nlocked and easily root

Can anyone send me this file not via filefactory? There are no free slots in there at all
I relock bl and try new RUU 2.26, but problem with flashing. Can you pls describe steps by steps how can is possibly update from 2.13 to 2.26 ? I'm S-ON
I have Rom with 2.26 but I want update radio too....

try the process in this thread, if you can't get it to work straight away, try using the method i used (thanks to rezo).
1 - install the ruu for 2.14.401.1
(http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?o6ox43q3taa33iu)
1.5 - if you can't do this because you already have the rom from 2.26 (but old radio etc), follow this tutorial so that you can go back to ruu 2.14.401.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540952&highlight=downgrade
2 - use htcdev process (without ruu step) to unlock bootloader
3 - install cwm recovery by flashing this file (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?1rdxmtpx26201or) via "fastboot flash recovery recovery(custom).img"
4 - put update.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?vycb7415nn9boct) on the root of your sd card and install from cwm recovery.
4.5 - if the update doesn't work (i.e. if you still get "triangle !" logo flash this file (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bqni648c46r5e44) via cwm and choose the option "supervision", then try the update again.
5 - after installation and first boot (take a while) boot back to cwm and flash this root.zip (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dumbffr3n8igau4)
you should now have the latest stock rom, latest hboot, latest radio, and be root.
What's different in this new update 2.26. ?
Hi guys
I'm trying to download this new ruu for 2 days now from "filefactory" an still: "no free slots"! Ca anyone help me to download this new ruu from other sites?
Thank's in advance!
my current software version is 2.14.401.2, what is the difference if i update to 2.26.401.3? Does it gives any improvement on the performance or battery life?
Thx...

what is the error code?
things to remember when you flash an ruu :-
you should not have modified system files (except for root)
you should have stock recovery to start with
you may need to create gold card
you should be relocked bootoader
if you are already on a software number which is higher than the ruu you are trying to install, you may need to downgrade first, using the guide posted above.
Is there anyway without S-OFF to update the radio? I would rather not loose any data too. I've manage to update everything but the radio.

if you're s-off already, can't you just flash the radio.img?
don't quote me on that, i'm not s-off myself, so i'm not reallu 'up' on all the thigns you can do and how you do them. but i was under the impression that with s-off you can flash it same as you flash recovery.img or system.img?
Do I need to flash radio? Because my girlfriends WFS has been t-mobile branded so I think I'm not able to flash RUU without gold crad?
Is it possible to flash system.img and boot.img only? Or will there be conflicts with radio/ramdisk etc...
BL is unlocked and device is rooted atm!
I installed this RUU to my Wildfire S by this tutorial
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540952
My phone had unlocked bootloader (via htcdev.com), Root, S-On and my Hboot version was 1.09.0099. When I was trying to install RUU I got ERROR 140(bad hboot version). So I used mentioned tutorial to downgrade hboot and then I install new RUU.
I downloaded RUU 2.26.401.3 from this site because on Football's FileFactory link are allways full slots.
Code:
http://narod.ru/disk/51502291001.c558c29e878e383684edd1a956d417fd/RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.26.401.3_Radio_47.23e.35.3038H_7.57.39.10M_release_261695_signed.exe.html
And there is a ZIP version if someone want
Code:
http://narod.ru/disk/51500892001.cf33d25826e44363856289cb11302527/PG76IMG%20-%20Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.26.401.3_Radio_47.23e.35.3038H_7.57.39.10M.zip.html
Sorry for poor english.
Can anyone please upload the RUU to another server?
FileFactory is always overloaded. And the russian site is too slow to download from America. 3kbps gg.
Any issues unlocking BL and rooting this update? Any compelling reason to stay with 2.13.401.2/3?

How to restore my three uk firmware

Hi I want to restore back to three uk firmware run my bootloader has been unlocked from htc dev unlock and I have a custom rom with touch recovery I have downloaded the stock uk three firmware run but not sure what to do next would appreciate some instructions.
1. Restore backup you made before flashing the custom ROM
2. Manually flash the stock boot.img
3. Manually flash the stock recovery
4. Relock bootloader (optional)
did not make backup so is there a plan b?
are you going back to stock to send phone off for repair?
If you are then run a backup of your current ROM from recovery first and copy SD to your PC for safe keeping.
1. Boot into fastboot
2. Flash stock recovery, found here (if you were on 1.26 before flashing custom rom then flash the 1.26 recovery, and 1.28 > 1.28): http://www.androidrevolution.nl/ARHD/index.php?dir=OneX/Recovery/
3. Relock bootloader: fastboot oem lock
4. Run RUU (phone needs to be in fastboot, and correct drivers installed onto PC for RUU to detect phone).
Edit: If you were on 1.28 before custom flashing then make sure you have the 1.28 RUU
Info found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609190
thats the thing i dont know what it was on 128 or 126 i tried to flash the 126 ruu and it failed so i presume its going to be the 128 ruu file so does it mean i have to flash the 128 stock recovery aswell or does it not matter.
If the 3 UK 1.28 RUU is available then you just flash that as the recovery comes with it. Remember you HAVE to relock the bootloader to run an RUU
Well i ran the 126 ruu and it failed it said something like get the correct bootloader after i did all the steps flashed stock recovery and relocked bootloader.

Have a look at your hboot version, if it is 43 then you probably have the 1.26 stock, if it is 94 then it should be the 1.28. I have the 1.28 3 RUU here, will see if I can find the download link for you.
Edit: Here is the post to the download link
my hboot reads 0.94.0000 so downloading 128 ruu thanks for the link so what stock recovery do i flash 26 or 28? i dont know what i had before.

you will need to flash the 1.28 recovery. unlock your bootloader first, then flash recovery, then relock again. you can use the same unlock.bin file that you got off HTCDEV to unlock the bootloader.
yep i already unlocked the bootloader just waiting for the download to finish and will post my results soon thanks for the help.
Thank you i can confirm this worked 100%
You're welcome

[Q] Stock on HTC ONE white screen after OTA update.

Hi guys.
Finally today I receive the OTA upgrade to JB. First an smal upgrade was succesfully downloaded and installed, and then the firmware to upgrade the phone to JB (I had 4.03 custom rom).
After the phone install the JB upgrade the phone stuck on the HTC ONE white screen
I had a backup on the SD that let me recover the phone, I try to install the upgrade again, with the same luck. I read a post that said that erasing the SD will resolve the issue, and I have no better idea than do it!!! (yeah... really!!)
I read several post all day on XDA, I try to flash again the boot and ROM with the upgrade that I save on my PC, and with a Backup via
fastboot. But nothing work (I dont know if I did it right). I cant see the SD on fastboot, already try a factory reset, when I go to the recovery option on fastboot the phone just rebooted with no options.

I assume that you first installed CWM or TWRP recovery to root your HOX, and if you make backup of your recovery this is CWM or TWRP recovery.img, not stock recovery.img that is came with phone because you reflashed original one with TWRP or CWM and official ROM need official recovery.img. I hope that you make nandroid backup before root with TWRP or CWM because is it "must to do" in every installation guide. If so, when you wanted to update via OTA for official JB you needed to:
1. reverse to stock software (for you, you needed only to unroot or use nandroid backup if you have yours, if not try to find one in xda one x forum matching your current CID and main-version)
2. reverse to stock recovery.img that is matching your CID (exact matching) (you need to find it on xda one x forum section) - i see that you have firmware folder but dont know is it from your backup or from OTA, if it is from OTA than you can use recovery.img from that folder to flash stock recovery.img via fastboot commands (only recovery.img)
3. then you can do official JB update via OTA
And then if you have need to custom ROM you need flash again CWM or TWRP recovery.img
Also you can get full stock with RUU but RUU must fully match your CID and main version, but RUU isn't available for every phone version, and after RUU you can do officall OTA JB update (for RUU you need to lock bootloader)
Information that can help us is yours phone current main version (fastboot getvar version-main)

Thanks for your help! I got the an RUU, after that I sent my backup to SD and now I have 4.0.4.
Now my phone show me a message to install the OTA to 4.1.1, but when I select install the phone make a reboot and show me CWM recovery with the message:
Finding update package...

Why the phone can't mount the SD?
You need a stock recovery. Do :
Fastboot getvar version-main
And post the outcome !
Edit :
4.0.4 software....you need this recovery and then install the ota again

Pls help to relock Bootloader & restore Stock ROM 2.33.652.2 on 816 A5_CHL

I was on Stock ROM 2.33.652.2.I have unlocked bootloader & install TWRP 3.0.0.0.
Then I flashed MM 6.0.1 ROM 13.0-20160216-UNOFFICIAL-a5chl.
Now I want to relock bootloader , & restore stock ROM 2.33.652.2. for warranty .I have downloaded HTC Stock recovery image File & have TWRP back up of Stock ROM.
My Device status:
Software status:Modified
***Unlocked***
A5_CHL PVT SHIP S-ON

Radio-1.47.40.0224
OpenDSP-v27.2.200546.0311
OS-
eMMC-boot 1536 MB
Are the steps given are correct to re lock Bootloader & restore Stock ROM?
1) Booting in TWRP recovery mode then restore back up of Stock ROM.
2) Then connecting the phone to PC & flashing stock recovery image file or using TWRP to flash stock recovery image..
3) After that relocking the bootloader by typing command “fastboot oem lock”.
I have read in forum that after relocking bootloader,we have to flash stock RUU file .
I have downloaded the file but its in .exe format
http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_..._NV_SPCS_0.57_003_release_428217_signed_2.exe
Can your please tell me the procedure to re lock Boot loader & restore Stock ROM.
Also the firmware I have downloaded is the correct STOCk ROM file ? if I run this using windows will I able to install stock ROM 2.33.652.2 on my mobile?or this will brick my mobile?
I have your same version and yes you pretty much have it figured out. The exe from HTC.downloads is the correct one and the order for restoring your TWRP stock backup is correct. Do a factory reset before restoring the stock TWRP backup then wipe your cache and dalvik cache then reboot. Use ADB/fastboot to flash back your stock recovery then relock your bootloader and run the stock RUU exe. Not sure the tampered message will go away though as I believe you would need root and S off to accomplish that but I wouldn't think they'd give you a hard time as long as everything is back to stock but of course they know the bootloader has been unlocked anyway from HTC.dev
Thoctor as per your suggestion i have to follow the steps 1 to 3.
1) but is it necessary to run the stock RUU exe after that?
2) Suppose in case the stock RUU exe not flashed successfully my mobile will get soft bricked or can I restore my mobile back by flashing twrp and restoring previous backup.
3) Is there is any way to remove" tampered message".?
Actually, i want my mobile status to be displayed as
LOCKED:
A5_CHL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.19.0.0000
RADIO-1.46.40.0917
OpenDSP-v28.2.2.00546.0331
OS-1.50.652.3
eMMC-boot 1536MB
Sorry for asking so many questions but i want to make clear all my doubts before doing anything
Don't be sorry. Your being smart by being hesitant.
1) not necessary but the reason for doing it is to install the cleanest version of the OS over writing everything else and repartitioning the phone. It's like a second disc wipe except this time your not wiping your writing over.
2) If something happened it should just fail to flash and you would still have the stock TWRP backup but keep your stock backup on your ext SD or computer just in case but you should be fine.
3) not that I know of unless your phone is rooted and set to S off which costs $25. It doesn't matter because they already know you've unlocked the bootloader through HTCdev anyway that's why they make you register an account so to me it's a moot point but I understand why your asking.
1-Restore stock twrp lollipop backup (unrooted)2.33.652.2.I
2-open it and download 2.33.652.2.2 ota update
3-extract recovery.img from frimware.zip-from ota
4-flash recovery.img
5-relock bootloader
6-install ota
Sometimes You get a red trainagle error with other recovery.
1) I factory reset my mobile phone ,then I wipe cache, dalvik cache.
2) Then I Restore Stock Stock 5.0 TWRP Backup.
3) Using ADB / fastboot I flash back Stock Recovery & Relock Bootloader.
4) After that Run Stock RUU ext.
Now it displays Booloader RELOCKED .

If your device is relocked and stock rom is present you're still on warranty. The only thing you have to make sure of is that there's no trace of superuser present. But if you flashed the stock rom this shouldn't be a problem.
Is your device still tampered? Flashing the exact RUU for your device should delete the tampered flag and revert it to original.
No its not showing Tampered. The bootloader is showing RELOCKED.
When i flash RUU A5 CHL L50 exe using PC the bootloader changed from UNLOCKED to RELOCKED.
Then everything's fine ☺
Hi I also did the same now I m getting as relocked in my htc 816 but am I eligible to install the sense 7 update which is officially upgrade for HTC desire 816???? 7.0 android OTA update being root and S-ON?

Hello guys,
I got a new ota update, 7.0 android but im root, bootloader unlocked and im S-ON.
Can i get the OTA without any trouble or i have to flash it from twrp? Will i lose my root access if i accept the update?
Thanks for your time
To accept the ota update your phone must have a stock system and the only way to get that is to flash the stock firmware then update via ota.
S-on/off and bootloader unlocked/locked/relocked "do not" affect firmware flash ability. "do not" change the status of these to flash a stock firmware.
Get the firmware you currently have as a zip file, rename it to 0PJAIMG.ZIP and copy it to the external sd card. Connect a charger and boot into download mode. You should see a prompt in yellow at the bottom of the screen "press vol up to flash".
When done it will auto boot to os. You can then download and flash the ota. When you have flashed the ota you will have to root again.
Sneakyghost's flashable firmware packs don't contain a system image. Therefore, flashing one won't restore the ability to install OTAs. He wrote an article that described the difference between the system/rom and the firmware of HTC devices, some years ago. Unfortunately, it was hosted on the Team venom Website and that site got shut down when the Team retired. Edit: I could find it on archive.org.
You need to either flash a RUU (which is not the same as a firmware pack) or restore an untouched TWRP backup. Instructions and downloads can be found in the ReadMe thread. Be aware that a RUU will delete all personal data/settings.
Sidenote: Sneakyghost's firmware packs require S-OFF since they are custom made and not signed by HTC. And even RUUs require S-OFF in case you want to downgrade your phone's firmware.
