I got my mom a smart phone for Christmas. I want to get in it so I can sign into her gmail and setup her contacts and stuff. I want to setup all her apps and stuff so it's ready for her to use on Christmas. The problem is I cannot get past the phone activation setup wizard. The only options I have are Emergency Call and Turn Off Phone. there is no back button, no search bar, nothing. I can't even pull down the notification bar. Is there a magic option or number to dial that will bring me to the home screen?

Hi Guys-I did search on this forum, google search and on Sprint's website. The answer on Sprint does not seem to apply to this phone and only allows me to change the pin. Is there a way to not have to use? I remember when activated phone and set up first time there was a choice to use pin or not. I cannot find how to disable this now.
Thank You,
Doc
Call your voicemail by pressing and holding the 1 button.
Now press 4 for options.
On mine, it says I have chosen to skip my voicemail passcode, press 1 to turn it on. I'm guessing it should be the opposite for you.
If the above does not work, press 7 to go into expert mode and you can change it there. HTH.
Thanks itbmd. It seems I created my own problem by trying the Google Voice using my sprint number. Apparently the settings for google voice voicemail are different and do not allow going without a passcode. When I disabled google voice it then removed voicemail completely from my sprint accountT. I had to call sprint and had the voicemail added back. Last time I will try this again!
Thanks,
Doc
Got my hspa nexus yesterday... nearly fainted when it arrived so soon. I ordered it from gum mobile, excellent fast service.
Slid in my T-Mobile sim card and instantly started rocking 5mg plus download speed... loving this!
Anyway, the only thing I cannot figure out is my voicemail situation... the voicemail notification icon came on, and it displaying my Google Voice number.
I confirmed that I have no unread voice mails on Google voice or my T-Mobile account... what am I missing?
Same here, except it's my regular carrier voicemail and not Google Voice. Stupid icon will not disappear, not after multiple factory resets, and entering my voicemail to check. Will have to get my carrier to reset on their end and see if that works.
Any success?
I have uninstalled google voice, called into my T-Mobile voicemail... reinstalled.
Let me know... driving me crazy.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I rebooted my phone with and it went away for me. I'm using tmobile too.
this is a very common issue with Google Voice and T-Mobile. i have it on my nexus one right now, but luckily i can clear it at boot, so it's not that annoying.
and as you can tell from this google search: https://www.google.com/search?q=t-m...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
it's a huge issue and there are many ways of fixing it, many of which for some people, like me, won't work.
Solved!
I turned off the google voice functionality (Make no calls), then changed the voicemail to carrier (phone>settings>voicemail service)... then unforwarded my phone through the Google Voice interface (settings>Deactivate Google voicemail on this phone)
Then... called my T-mobile number from the house phone, left a voicemail message, called my voicemail box from my GN (hold down the 1 key), listened to the message, deleted the message... bam! no more voicemail icon.

Called my carrier (Rogers) and had them do a reset on their end then pulled the battery for 2 minutes. Didn't appear to work at first so I left myself a voicemail, deleted it, and the notification disappeared right away. This didn't work prior to having the carrier do a reset.

interesting, becaue i tried the call and leave yourself a voicemail and it never worked for me.
kinda glad that i have a couple ways of trying to fix this now when my Gnex comes in this week.
My ATT cell service just got cut off and not going to be able to have it for a while but I am on wi-fi most of the time anyway.
It would be great if I was able to keep my old number but I dont think that is possible but at least can I do MMS and SMS and hopefully voice too from my phone over wi-fi alone with no data network?
I thought WhatsAPP was able to do this but I cant figure it out.
Any insight to this? Would prefer to use WhatsApp but if there are better alternatives I am all ears!
Thanks!
Ok thank you for that option! Can I also have WhatsApp working at the same time?

honestly i don't know. But realistically if getting sms and voice over wifi are what you want its a non-issue.

Ok great I will do this first to get back up with a "Real" number which will at least get me back up and running thank you!
And so I assume with my cell phone provider shut off this will only work on wi-fi. But cant I buy a wireless hotspot from another carrier and have it in my pocket and have the phone using that as a wi-fi hotpost and it should work anywhere the hotspot works right?

That would work fine, but two things-
1. that hotspot is going to overheat in your pocket
2. battery life is terrible. often 3-4 hours is what you should expect on a good day.

Ok thanks for the heads up. So I already had Google Voice from long ago but never used it and went to the Google Voice website and it asked me to download the dialer to my phone so I did and it allowed me to place outgoing calls which is fine. I called my friend and he said the caller ID did not show up it was "unidentified" on my Google Voice page it gives me a "Your access number" is that my phone number that people can call my phone on because he tried and it does not work says call cannot be completed as dialed.

You got kakaotalk in the play store that has phone calls and texts for free over wifi, but I'm not sure if it asks for your phone number for a confirmation text message. Also, there is hangouts that has texts and video/voice calls and it doesn't need your phone number at all. Just wifi, only the other person needs to be on hangouts as well.

Remember! if your Alliance manager FCs, just delete the "Alliance" folder in your SDcard then re-open the Alliance manager app.

That's new to me[emoji58]
But the phone number isn't your old number, right? Also, do you know if I can also make phone calls or even send text messages to other countries, specifically the middle east. My family is there and it's so expensive to call them.
Thanks for that btw

The problem is when I try to sign up for a new Google Voice account it wants a working phone number that it can call to verify which I dont have because my phone is shut off. Any way around this?

Well then I suggest that you head to Walmart and get you a flip phone for $15 and slam one of those prepaid sim cards in it and use it until you get your phone working.

There is nothing wrong with my phone it is just the cell service is disabled, the wi-fi and BT work fine. Can I just go to another carrier and get a prepaid SIM or does my Note4 need to be unlocked and if so is there an unlock we can do or needs to go to unlocking place?
jd14771 said:
Well actually if you have a current acount with no leins, you can just port the number over for a small fee. And if you want to close said cell phone acount and keep that number for Google voice you can do that too.
International rates do apply at a very small cost from what I understand. You can definitely do it I just don't know if it will be cheaper for you or not I'm sure youl be able to find the price chart for the region they're in.

Yes I am aware of that. My issue is that I have a large balance on that number so I realize when I can pay that balance I will. But in the meantime I am wanting to get a Google Voice or other number to work on that phone while the service is turned off, to work over WI-FI. I have seen people do it before I just dont know how they were doing it (may have not been Google Voice)

OK never-mind I figured it out. I am up and running on my phone that was just shut off from ATT with a huge bill by:
1. Getting an app that will allow me to send and receive text and voice call for free and will allow you to view your unique phone number.
2. Sign up for Google Voice.
3. Put the number in Google Voice from step one.
4. Download "Google HANGOUTS DIALER" from Google Play store. It fully supports MMS and SMS texts and calls in and out!
5. Set default text and call apps to "Hangouts Dialer" and you are all set!
SUPER happy about this. No more cell bill ever!
This is a weird one and has me a little concerned. If I try to turn off call forwarding I get an error telling me that the carrier doesn't support disabling call forwarding. Then it puts in the number +1 832-597-9997 as the number to forward to. Does anyone else get anything like this? Go to phone app, settings, calls. This still happens after a full wipe and install of the factory image.
PS, I have a pixel 3 but there's a lot more activity in the XL forum
Man, the XDA app and site is a pita. Not sure what it did to my title.

You piqued my curiosity so I went into the phone settings menu and selected call forwarding. It initialized for the first time and populated some phone numbers similar (not the same) as yours. I then selected the call forwarding toggle (it was set to off) and I got a dialog box to input the number I wanted to forward to. It appears to be working but I haven't tested it. May be a provisioning issue. How old is your SIM? Wouldn't hurt to swing by AT&T to get a new one.

When busy, When unanswered, When unreachable are all greyed out with the same phone number but I guess that is the Google service number or AT&T's. It accepts my forwarding number. I can then tap that number and get out to the pop up dialog which gives the option to turn off, cancel or update. Turning off and updating works fine. Exiting leaves me at the main settings menu. Looks like is is working with no errors. Check your SIM to make sure it is one of the newer series. If not get a new free SIM provisioned at AT&T. Are you PRE paid, or POST pay contract? Are you AT&T or on an MVNO?

Thanks. The Sim is new but I'll have it checked out on Monday when att is open.
I have an S20 Ultra.. USA so non-root.. when I was with Xfinity Mobile, I used adb to get rid of the Voicemail app.. I don't use it and this way I got no notifications. Problem solved.
However, I recently changed over to Mint Mobile. Every time I start the phone I get a notification that says something Dial *86 to setup voicemail.
I cannot swipe this message away, and I can't disable notifications for voicemail.. greyed out. The only thing I found I can do is swipe and it'll remind me in 2 hours about this notification. I don't want to be reminded. I never want to see it again.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of it? I can't even "clear" it to remove the annoying icon up top.. that option is greyed out.
