My 5x fingerprint scanner doesn't always work. My hands sweat most of the time. Does anyone get the same problem? Or my phone scanner is just bad?

Do you have Hyperhidrosis? They have some creams that help prevent hand sweat, kinda pricey though
I don't have the problem with sweaty hands but what I do know and did was going to the settings page where it shows the fingers you have trained and repeatedly tapping the sensor will improve the capability of the sensor to recognize the fingerprint playing around with it I have it recognizing the first two joints of my finger.
Not sure if it will work in your case but its something you might want to try.

Where did you see that you could tap the sensor and improve print recognition?

Its because fingerprint scanners are just a gimmick. The only way to get it to recognize YOU consistently, is to lower the sensitivity enough to make it possible to recognize someone else AS you. Then add some dirt on your finger, maybe a scrape or some glue... its a toy. The only reason google added it is because the fruit company forced them by making it an advertised feature.
Never thought my hands were the problem. I will go see a doctor. Thanks for advice
I've tried with a damp finger tip from condensation on a drink and it worked fine. I know my old GS5 would say "wet finger" or something.

Might be a gimmick to you but it works very well on the Nexus 5X. So well, when I grab my phone from my pocket and place my finger on it, it's unlocked and ready to go by the time I look at the screen.

Since I live in hot California, my hands are often sweaty
Same problem because California Weather...
The only problems I have are in my house when the temp is above 75, so my hands sweat in my pockets
I discovered this when I was sweating my ass off on the stationary bike at the gym the other day. Fingerprint scanner would not recognize at all. Worked fine again as soon as I had cooled back down. It was for the best though - shouldn't be playing with the phone on that hard of an effort. Not a deal breaker to me.
Hi All,
I didn't found any relevant thread and hence opening a new.
Is anyone observing a delay in finger sensor. Sometimes I have observed a delay of approx 1-2 sec once I touch the sensor n it unlocks my mobile. Kindly suggest. I contacted the customer service and they are suggesting to factory reset the mobile.
Thanks
Vivek

Nope, this only happens when either the finger is wet or the sensor is a bit wet.

It happens to me also for the first time when i am unlocking the mobile like after 5mins or more. if i locking mobile then within minute when i am unlocking it is working proper, I don't know the reason. Should the factory reset solve this issue?

Whether this honor 8 pro has capacitive finger print sensor? because ordinary finger print sensor can be hacked by any other thin film which has our finger print sample. thats y i want to know whether this is capacitive or not?

Optical sensors aren't used in smartphones.
Ultrasonic sensors are still in prototype devices.

so far, huawei/ honor fingerprint sensors are one of the fastest and more reliable one (in the sense it can detect and not tell you wrong fingerprint).
the only time when i get this issue of not being able to detect my fingerprint is when my finger is wet (it does not have to be really wet or anything)... usually wipe with dry cloth/ tissue and try again, and it will work.
I did try to search this and couldn't find anything so if I missed it I'm sorry but here goes.... When I make a call on my new pixel 2 xl the screen goes black like it should when I get the phone to my face but when I'm done with the call and pull it away it does not wake back up. I have to toggle the power button and use the finger print sensor to wake the screen back up. Anyone run into this?
do you have a screen protector on it ?
Yes I have the Verizon branded tempered glass on it

A lot of times the early made screen protectors for new phones are made wrong and forget the cut out for proximity sensor. Remember, it's a proximity, not light so even though glass is see through a proximity sensor detects anything, even glass.
It could also be lined up wrong.

Yes. It's happened several random times so I'm not sure what's wrong yet. For me I noticed that the ambient display just randomly went out. I now think it's because the proximity sensor triggered it. Similarly, I have an app called Screebl which turns off when the proximity sensor is triggered. I noticed that app also turned off. I hope it's a software problem not a hardware issue. I'm running the pixel 2 xl on Oreo 8.1 beta.
No screen protector here.. noticed this earlier today. Running the 8.1 beta..

Yeah, I'm not using a screen protector either. Hopefully it's just the beta. I seached the beta bug reports and haven't seen anything reported on this yet.

Another thing I noticed with the beta is it slowed the finger print sensor quite a bit... So maybe there's something in the beta that affects the sensors some. Going to have to report some bugs...
I am on stock 8.0.0 here and am having the same issue. I did some searching and tried the "fixes" that involved turning off ambient display, restarting, etc., nothing worked. I have a screen protector on, but I tried the troubleshooting steps both with and without it on. I even tried the "Proximity Sensor Reset/Repair" app with no success.
Having the problem as well. Thank God it's a software issue
I also have an amfilm screen protector v2 on, as well as a Spigen Herringbone Neo-hybrid case.
No fingerprint sensor errors.

Fixed. Wiped down the proximity sensor with a dry toothbrush.
Need to get in touch with amfilm tomorrow and tell them their prox widow is too small.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Unfortunately for me, it wasn't a software issue. I removed the screen protector and wiped the phone, still no luck. Replacement is coming tomorrow.
I heard Google announced they know of the issue and will fix it with a software update

never mind was for the touch screen issues not the proximity sensor
Same problem here. Started immediately with my first phone call after the 8.1 OTA finished installing, so clearly a change was made in 8.1 to the prox sensor sensitivity. This is with Google's "official" (and pretty lousy) Power Support screen protector
Everything back to normal with protector removed. C'mon, Google, geez.
Best part is, their touch screen fix didn't mix anything and now I have proximity sensor issues

I'm having issues as well BUT making calls via my watch or when receiving calls. If I make the call manually from the phone the sensor works fine.

8.1 update has caused my proximity sensor to lag like crazy, takes 1.5seconds some times before it gives me the screen to hang up. I think the issue may be linked to the general issue of unlock screen slowness
Hello, fellow Nokia fans,
I have been using the Nokia 6.1 as my daily phone for the past 2 months, and it has all been a great phone except for the fact that the fingerprint sensor on this phone sucks a lot. Every time I try to unlock my phone using my index fingers it says something like partial fingerprint detected, try again.
It gets really frustrating at this point, the phone that I used prior to this was a Galaxy S6 which had a front facing fingerprint sensor, that made things much easier. Am I doing something wrong? Is the same issue bothering anyone else? Kindly help me in mitigating this problem.
TIA, Peace.
You can calibrate the same finger twice for more information for the sensor so it registers it more accurately.
I registered my fingerprint like I would register my fingerprint by habit. Now it works perfectly, and I have no complaints whatsoever.
Those in the US using fingerprints to unlock your phone (any device) be aware federal courts have ruled you CAN be compelled to unlock your phone with your fingerprint. You CANNOT be compelled to give up a password. The difference is something you are vs. something you know. Sure it is a pain to use a password/PIN, but think of all the personal information you carry with you in your phone.

you also have problem with fingerprint before you do register again? mine is only working when putting fingertip at center, unlike other phones like xiaomi that unlock fast and easy with any part of finger touching the sensor, I don't know if its the sensor smaller or it require more accurate scanning than other phones, it works but sometime hard to unlock when in rush or when finger is sweaty
In fact, this is the worst fingerprint sensor i have tried.
I have Nexus 6P, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and P10 with me
Nokia 6.1 fingerprint sensor keep showing partial detected when hand sweat, dirty or even normal case

Yup, this does help out slightly
I did register 3 type of single finger, but still unrecognized in some case
Even the slightest amout of sweat and the fingerprint sensor fails. Thus I had to set up trusted face to make the unlocking process less painful. Unlocking this phone using the fingerprint is pain in the ass. I think the sensor area is too small that it fails to detect the parts of our fingerprints or it's not calibrated well.
I don' t mean to sound overly negative but the fingerprint sensor is next to useless unless you hands are completely dry and not sweaty whatsoever. The success rate is so low for me that I don't use fingerprint sensor on the 6.1 and went back to using a password - which is at least works consistently
i am using nokia 6.1 plus from past 1 year. the fingerprint sensor also works properly but the option of adding fingerprint suddenly gone right after updating the security update.. how to get it back? please help...

After using protective glass, the finger reader is unusable. Does anyone have the same problem?
I am using screen guard and it has a hole at finger print scanner. It is annoying and seller told it is for finger print scanner to work. If your screen protector doesn't have hole at scanning area, it may not work.
I don't use finger print scanner so don't know if the feature is working really with or without protection guard.
What about pre applied one? Which came on applied with phone.

After applying we have to re do the fingerprint addition process, if your tempered glass supports it.
I got tempered glass applied from the store coated me around 400, but the in display fingerprint scanner works.

Same here, it's mostly just a case of leaving your finger in the right place for long enough rather than getting impatient with it.
