Just dropped my phone on the pavement and now my screen is cracked. The phone still works and I can still use the phone. It seems to have only cracked the oter glass.
I was wondering if I took off the top glass layer that got cracked, if my phone will still be responsive. I don't want to get it repaired since I'm getting a new phone in a month anway, but in the meantime, it would be nice if I can use my phone without those cracks all over the screen, which is why I want to know if I can just take out the glass layer.
I was thinking that I can use my extra screen protector as a temporary replacement for the glass screen that was cracked until I get my new phone.
I'm just scared that if I do take it out, my phone wont be responsive to touch anymore.
Any thoughts?

The outer glass is practically fused to the digitizer. You won't be able to get it off. Also you can't use a screen protector as a replacement...

Within the past month, I noticed some condensation in my screen. Last week, there was no more condensation, but I noticed a darker part on my screen that looked like the screen cover was actually sticking to the internal screen.
Soon, my touch screen stopped responding altogether. After toying with the phone for a while, I found that if I apply pressure to the side of the plastic cover, it bows the screen cover just enough that it breaks contact with the touch screen.
Earlier today, while messing with the touch screen cover, some adhesive got onto the actual interior touch screen and caused it to stop working. I used some Zeiss lens cleaner wipes on it, which removed most of the adhesive very well, but there is now an off color tint as if it is just slightly oily on the screen now.
What is the best way to clean the actual internal screen? Is it possible for me to buy a new screen cover and adhesive to re-seat it?
New touch screens can be found on eBay and there is a tutorial on replacing them. Google it.
I have googled it, and I do not need a new touch screen. I need a way to clean the touch screen, and a new thin plastic cover for it.

Yes that's it. Pardon my ignorance of technical terms. My screen guard is slightly bent and it is missing the factory adhesive. Some of the adhesive from the screen guard got onto the screen. I can't figure out how to get the adhesive off of the screen so that the touch screen will work again.
Not sure what you are using for a screen guard, but AT$T sells a 3-pack for $5 that fits the Tilt 2/TP2 perfectly and leaves no adhesive residue.
Are you aware that the actual "screen" that you touch on the phone is only a thin sheet of plastic that is easily removed, and that the actual screen is a piece of glass under it?

It works fine, but the adhesive to seat that onto the phone smeared onto the actual screen glass. All I need is a way to clean adhesive off both without damaging the phone. Other than that, the phone works perfectly.
I'm very aware of it, that's why we use screen protectors. Like I said, you can buy a new one off eBay. Use a little acetone on a soft cloth to remove the adhesive. I'm done with your lousy attitude.
I am not trying to sound like I have a bad attitude, I am just confused and wondering if you think that I am saying that a 5.00 screen protector left residue on the screen, which isn't the case.

However, I'm too worried about its screen. I've read the post, it goes about 75% AGAINST (or just dont feel like using) screen protectors and 25% FOR screen protectors...
Now heres the thing. I got some chinese brand (like them all) protector, similiar to MUVIT (at belcompany). I also ordered from ebay a different brand (claimed to be as smooth as the screen itself).
I have only installed the first I got from belcompany (not invisibleshield, but shield"something"). It definitely reduces screen smoothes. Dry finger cant slide properly on the screen (dry - as in, washed with soup and completed dried by towel).
next week I'll recieve the ebay ones I've bought - but I'd ask this anyways ... What do we do about it? Should I apply the protector and reduce the screen feel or apply it?
Can we definitely say that the protectors help us overcome scratches, or can we trust Gorilla glass to do its job?

The screen get scratches, i already have 3 of them, i don't know if it's the screen or the coating but i ordered a brando ultraclear SP for protection, i wouldn't afford another scratch
When I first got my DROID2, the nice Verizon lady tried to sell me some screen protectors. It was like $10 for 5 or something like that, and the Verizon people put it on without any bubbles or anything. The only complaint I have is that the screen picture quality has gone down.
My question is, how durable is the screen without one? Is it easily scratchable? I'd sure like to take it off, but can't stand to have a scratched screen.
How often do you drop your phone?
A better question would be how often do you replace the screen protector? If the protector is still in good shape (they scratch hella easy) then take it off, the glass is 100x more durable than the protector. I had a screen protector on my Voyager, and when I removed it I promised I would never use one again... the screen just looks and feels better without it.
I have about 2 scratches on the protector. One is about a cm long and the other is about 2 inches, but they are light scratches. I have never replaced it.
Also, isn't the Voyager screen plastic, while the D2 screen is glass? Does that make a difference?

I've had my D2 for over a year without a screen protector. It has zero scratches. Gorilla Glass is awesome stuff.
^This. You can't scratch this screen with a knife. I have dropped it face down on pavement and had it skid, nothing. My girl uses a protector and to me it seems like it's more difficult to use the touch screen with.
I also had a clear gloss protector on my Voyager. When I was ordering the D2 online I took a knife to the Voyager screen and couldn't scratch it, so at the time it saved me 12 bucks.
so my deep scratch must be something else
I took a "generic" screen protector, and trimmed it to fit my inspire. I probably didn't need to, but I had the screen protectors already, and figured it couldn't hurt anything.. My phone is in my pocket all day, and who knows what I throw in that pocket!
I installed a generic one, it helped with scratches and specially with fingerprints
I am very rough on phones . Another layer of protection to absorb shock and scratching can hurt anything . I use a generic screen protector and change it when it starts looking bad .

I dropped my One X the other day and the screen cracked in several places. I ordered an LCD and a new glass for the phone, but all the tutorials seem to stop once the phone gets taken apart. When I get the LCD, do I just put adhesive on the glass, stick it on, and put it back together? Or is there a different procedure I need to do?

LCD and glass should be bonded together, i.e., one unit, already.
When I ordered the LCD off Amazon, it didnt say that it came with glass. It would be great if it did though. If not, I still have an extra glass front. Would small drops of Gorilla Glue be strong enough to keep it adhered to the LCD panel?
Hey, noob here, I purchased an S3 with a cracked screen in order to replace it. Taking off the screen wasnt fun but my problem is that I didnt manage to leave the glue from the previous screen which, from what I have been reading, is necessary in order to keep the new screen sticking to the device. I called samsung but they could not help me with any work short of $170. Is there is anything on the market that can replace the glue?

It's not possible to have the screen exactly as before if you just remove the glass. You can order 2mm double sided tape by 3M which goes around the border of the glass. To get the adhesive between the glass and digitizer you would need to have it vacuumed in.
From personal experience I can tell you that your screen will still work, however there is a small space between the glass and digitizer. This does mean that the touchscreen isn't quite as responsive as it was before.
The only other option is buying the glass/digitizer/LED assembly, which is about $170 to buy. If you do choose this option you should pay a little extra and get the one that comes with the bezel and everything as it will save you a lot of time and messing around.
