So as I was replacing the screen my nexus I stabbed the camera ribbon the screw driver hoping it didn't do anything. Ends up the camera is dead and is no longer showing up as recognized. I open the camera app and it crashes. Few apps allow me to use front camera still. So I ordered the replacement and waiting. It seems my LED isn't working and i know I didn't hit that but would that have a relation to camera. Like will it work after I replace the camera?

I haven't looked at this in awhile but the ifixit teardown might help you see if the LED and camera are integrated with the ribbon that you accidentally stabbed.

Well I tried that and it appears they aren't connected. The LED is actually soldered straight to the motherboard. What's odd is they worked before the screen replacement and before the camera ribbon problem. But it appears apps that control the LED are saying I literally don't have LED. Like it says it appears your phone doesn't have LED support so we will use your screen blah blah blah.

I am entirely uneducated in this regard, but maybe it is possible the LED issue is associated with the camera ribbon? Are you certain the LED was not dislodged in any way? Either way, I think it is a waiting game until your replacement camera arrives and you can slot that in to test.

I just traded my mini pro for a Xperia play with no back light working and sd card not reading. Ive dismantled all of the play and put it all back together and still the same problem and i have also used SEUS to reflash the software and still no back-light. You can see the play is on, its just really hard to see and i can receive calls. Im hoping to fix this for my my girl friend as i already have one.
My main concern is the back light and then the sd i think lol also the green light comes on when charging
So do i need a new screen or can i just change a part?
Thanks
Is the screen light built in to the screen? Or could it be the proximity sensor is broke any one please
Also if I open the game pad a little bit the screen works and fully open didn't work.

Possibly a damaged ribbon cable?
That's what I think but the ribbon that connects to the screen and the keyboard is hard to get to, the only side I can get to is the side that connects to the keyboard, there's a video on YouTube but didn't show you how to take your digitizer or get the ribbon out completely.

The digitizer is not attached to the LCD and comes off with the frame. The cable goes under the LCD module and I've seen it for sale but I'm not sure if it's meant to detach from the other end. If it has a short or something, It's likely where it connects to the bottom half or where it folds anyway. Have you taken it apart and taken a look at the folding cable?
i also have the same problem.
my lcd light are off.
but my touchscreen(lcd) still working, i can make call receive call, open app and other.
but the light too dim. hardly to see anything that i click/touch on the lcd.
plssss help me out.
does i need to change the lcd? or other parts of the phone?
and where is the light on the lcd btw?
i already flash my phone. so i dont think it is software problem.
i have the same problem but have no light at all, screen self is responsive if im touching it but no backlight
please help
Solve myselft, my problem is hardware coz i flash my xperia play and it doesnt work either, so i send to shop to repair and it done, the prob could be ribbon n lcd, mine was ribbon

which cable?
which cable do you mean? the flex cable that goes with the slide up and down or something else on the digitizer?
as an idiot i changed the lcd but of course nothing works.. still no backlight...
I have a huge problem, basically I was sick and tired of my black housing for the phone, so I ordered the white one from ebay. I was so happy it came that I forgot to shut down the phone, well during half way of the work, while I was trying to pry it open I remembered and turned it on and it worked I opened it a bit more open and it suddenly went black and since then everything is working except the LCD.
I have no idea whats the problem is the LCD broke or what?
Also when it shut down and me trying to reconnect the LCD flat cable to see if thats the problem I was nervous and did that which you see in the picture. Now my issue is what if I buy a new screen connect it and it doesn't work because the FPC connector?

The connection pins themselves do not look damaged, on the plastic shroud. The socket should work fine.
It's a little hard to make out fine detail in the pic...take a magnifying glass to it and check for cracks or splits in the pins.

Hmm it seems like it goes one small one then longer one, its hard to see from he picture but I think two of the longer ones are missing. And what should be the problem with the LCD because that happened before I damaged the socket.
Between thank you for the fast reply.

Well I don't see any missing pins, but you'll have a better view.
As for you LCD...no idea. Generally it's a good idea to turn everything off before you open electrical equipment. You could have caused a short in the process of opening it live.

Would that be on the motherboard or the LCD, basically should I bother repairing it or just sell it for spare parts thats my issue right now.

Like I said earlier everything works, I can still receive SMS, phone calls (I can answer them since the digitizer works), e-mails, Facebook msgs, vibrations, sound, microphone... Everything works except the LCD.

You might try replacing the LCD and hope you haven't damaged the connector. If you have, a self-repair is unlikely given its size and that of the pins.
Or you dump it and buy a new phone.
Either way it's gonna cost you money. The first is cheaper but may not work.
I think that's your only options.
Yeah I knew from the start it was gonna cost me money, but I wanted the cheapest way out
Thanks a lot for the help I think I am gonna try to fix it. Get some experience while doing it too

Hey did you ever figure out the connector issue? Same problem
Verizon VS-986 here.
A couple of days ago, I went into the Camera app to take a picture and it was "stuck" on the selfie camera, and the icon to switch to the main camera was gone. I went back to the home screen and back into Camera, and fiddled with the Modes, and it finally came back. I clicked on it, and the app showed an image for a couple seconds, then froze up. I did a lot of back and forth with it, and sometimes it would show an image for a second and freeze; sometimes it went totally black and froze the app; eventually, after power cycling a few times, it was stuck on the front-facing camera for good, with no icon to swap to the back camera. Basically, at this point, the app had recognized that there WAS NO back camera and didn't even bother presenting the option anymore.
This had all the hallmarks of a hardware problem. Glitchy, intermittent outages, then the hardware simply not recognized anymore. Still, I cleared out caches and searched online and found this article: How to Fix Camera Failed Problem on LG G4 (recomhub.com/blog/how-to-fix-camera-failed-problem-on-lg-g4/), none of which did anything to help. (I'm not rooted/unlocked so I couldn't clear the cache partition like they recommended, though it clearly wouldn't have helped anyway.)
Couple other things that may or may not be relevant: it was VERY hot out (80+ degrees) when then problem started and the phone was hot as a result of it. But it kept happening after cool down.
A crazy other thing that happened was, that evening, after rebooting one last time just to be sure, half the screen turned into rainbow noise during the Verizon logo and stayed that way for several seconds, even into the lock screen. That pushed me over the edge.
I went to a Verizon store and they kindly swapped it out for me. But that was weird and I wanted to put it on the record. Also curious whether anyone else had this problem.
Not that problem, but check out this other thread I started regarding the camera causing the phone to overheat: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3142806
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
I've had the rainbow noise on the right half of the screen show up on boot at the Verizon screen as well. It stayed that way until the lock screen and that's when I powered the phone off, pulled the battery and let the sit for a few minutes. Haven't had the problem in the weeks since I've had the phone though.
The exact thing happened to me. My rear camera will not work at all. And the flashlight also will not work. Tried rebooting, factory resetting it, clearing cache, and took out my battery and still nothing.
I had a Verizon G4 that the rear camera stopped working on. I believe it was caused by a drop. I posted on here about it. For mine it just wouldn't focus anymore. Replacement was very easy, you only need a small Philips head screwdriver, and your fingernail, or plastic tool to remove the connector and pry the camera out which is held in by adhesive.
Replacement OEM part out of a Sprint G4 was under $14 USD on eBay.

Hello,
I have the exact same issue. Do you have a solution ? I dont want to rma anymore, screen coating than bootloop than this, this phone is a true disaster.
Only other thing any one could try is a tot lgup restore if that dont work either more than likely its a hardware failure. I had issues on my g2 with a could not connect to camera from the factory. Found out my stock rom was corrupted from lg toted and worked like new. Did it again a few moths later. Toted avain worked like new. I asume something in the camera files corrupted. Just throwin in my 2 cents.
Hello, thanks for the answer.
I fixed the issue by myself few minutes ago, i simply disconnected than reconnected the rear camera plug to the motherboard.

Nope, nothing special on these.
Well i spoke to fast, my camera is dead again.

Jesus i didnt see that. Sorry
So my brand new original camera module arrived today, i replaced it myself and...the camera still doesn't work. Looks like it's an MB problem. I have to send this god damn phone to LG again..
Hello, here is an update about my camera. LG repair the phone by changing the motherboard and the camera module.
Hey, my m9 camera and flashlight died. Repairmen told me that it's a hardware issue and i also tried factory reset and some original ruu but nothing helped. So I'm wondering if what do i need to replace to make it work again? A camera or the whole motherboard that's connected to it? In my opinion it should be the motherboard cause if it's just a camera issue then flashlight should be working fine.
SORRY IT WAS SUPPOSE TO GO IN GENERAL now i don't know how to move it
Hi,

i was going to buy a new daughter board too when i have some free time but if didin't worked, I don't know anymore. Maybe it's the main motherboard problem? btw did this happened after an update or it just died?

after screen change I got that problem...I think this issue in mainboard, or maybe in main camera, but why flashlight affected, also noticed that NFC not work properly...
I actually tried changing the rear camera but with no luck at all. I'm not using NFC so i don't know if it works properly or not. I wonder if it's repairable :/
power button cable is causing that issue
how is that?
Hey there,
Its not possible to get a AF picture /video. pictures blurred and washed out..
i checked out theres an OIS build in, and i think its going crazy and i would like to know if its possible to disable the function. Thanks everybody..

No way. I had this same issue, it's a hardware failure, unfortunately. Only way is to replace the camera module or the whole phone. Fortunately mine had the warranty yet, so I've got a replacement phone.

I expect that response..
but as u can see in my second link, there had someone sucess with disabling that feature..
i mean, the OIS ist not really broken, it looks like its out of calibration. so maybe theres a possibility to turn it off or to calibrate it again?..

The OIS is simply a 2-axis gyroscope and actuator built into the camera module. The camera module is a stand-alone subsystem with it's own firmware independent of the OS. These are typically robust from a firmware perspective and have self-calibration routines upon power up, so if rebooting your phone doesn't solve the issue, it's likely not a calibration problem.
Based on your reported symptoms, it sounds more the like the focus sensor has malfunctioned and it keeps snapping around to find the focal point. I suppose it's possible it's a broken gyro or actuator (both are MEMS devices and relatively fragile) but the simple troubleshooting I would recommend is to make sure the camera lens is clean and that there is no dust or moisture underneath. If that doesn't work, I would do a factory reset to make sure there isn't a rogue camera app running on your phone. If all that fails, it's likely an unrecoverable hardware fault.

I already did a full factory reset.. didnt help so far And the lens looks clean so far..
When i just shake the phone a bit for a while it gets a focused pic. (the gyro stops making these noisy sounds..)
But isnt there maybe a way, like in my first link to edit the build to prevent the gyro from starting?
I just try out if this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-jitterygyrofixforcardboard-t3202149) supposed to help

If shaking temporarily gets it working again, than it is likely the actuator has debris in it that's causing it to jam. Being a MEMS device, it's prone to little pieces of the silicon chipping off which in turn get stuck in the actuation motor. I have some familiarity with the InvenSense gyroscope in the Fire phone, and while it has it's own quality issues, I never saw failures that resulted in the symptoms you are seeing.
Unfortunately, there aren't any consumer available tools I'm aware of to turn off the OIS portion of the camera module.
Edit: Forgot to mention, the UX gyro is completely separate from the OIS gyro. Two totally different chips. Turning off the UX gyro won't help your issue.
Just wanted to share this video with my issue: https://forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/637735-camera-keeps-shaking-hardware-fault.html
Just to share my results.. there is a fix. Just put a little stripe of neodym magnet next to the lens and the gyro stops moving..
thats the cheapest solution tho
