Hello everyone,
I want to buy the G4, do you think it's a good buy in 2016/17?
Also, the most important thing is, do new G4 still have motherboard issues and/or bootloop issues?
Thanks in advance.
Answer to your first question: Hell no.
This is by far one of the worst phones that I've ever owned. The only other bad one was an HTC touch pro that I owned.
Everything from an update breaking the ability to do anything while on calls. You must go through various menus to trick the phone while in a call.
It slows down, and other things that I forget at the moment. Even up to my first time using SWAPPA when I tried to get rid of it and after two weeks, I get a claim that the usb port is broken and it now bootloops. F this phone and F swappa.

You were really not lucky, but G4 is one of the best buy now for 2016. Low cost, great phone, beautyful, great camera, not really good battery but with quick charge is ok.
I think he really should buy for the actual prize.
On new revision (actually on market) no bootloop.

1. i dont know i bought mine like 8 months ago... am loving it.
2. if you get phone from 6xx upwards is less likely to bootloop. mine hasnt. its a 601.
even if it boots they will fix it .
also get a G4 that can be bootloader unlocked. like h811 or the h815 that can be unlocked.

Iv had a few g4......my last one fell victim to the boot loop...LG said to send it to them and it would either be fixed or replaced.... Long story short they pulled it out of the box shattered the screen mailed it back to me and told me they couldn't fix it because it was already damaged....having said that I now own a note 4 and couldn't be happier...but the truth is the g4 is a beast.....fast fast fast...awesome device...it's lg the company I don't care for....

Doesn't sound like you have owned any truly bad phones.... Never had to deal with 900 megabytes of internal memory and 250 mb of ram and link to sd won't give you the time of day...now that's the ruff life..ha ha

For me is a 3/5 star phone. I bought it for like 240€ (270$~). The battery is the most negative point, for the rest the phone is really good. A great camera, builded with great quality material and smooth even without Custom Rom, thats the reason why there are lots of stock rom based. I switched to CM just because I was bored about the stock and not for other reason. No lag, games runs well. Never had problem about motherboard (6xx serial btw).
Your choice now.
Maybe for the 2017 you can find something better for the price that the phone has got now, that will rise down more soon.
G4 H815 EUR owner here. This phone is a beast. Great camera(really, just shot no need to manual focus or anything), great performance(no lag at all) battery life is decent(as I'm a previous Galaxy S3 owner, S3 could barely do 1hr SOT while G4 does 4-6hrs). Only problem with G4 is screen for me. As it's IPS not AMOLED... It's been half a year since I switched to G4 and I still miss AMOLED from S3

Hey, man. I'm having the same dilemma. I'm looking for a 300-350 $ smartphone and I think this is the best available, but don't know if this phone is worth it after a year from it's release. Can anybody advice us?
I got the phone less than a month ago. As far as I'm concerned, it's still right up their with the top of the line phones spec wise. Nothing wrong with getting this phone now. 3GB of RAM, a fast processor, updated to Lollipop. Not sure what else anyone needs in a smartphone. Plus a 5.5" screen with a great display and LG's UX is much better than Samsung's TW if you ask me.
To the OP, you won't be able to freeze apps without root, but you can uninstall updates/disable any app that you don't want to use or see anymore. You can't completely uninstall them, but they won't be running or seen. Any Lollipop phone can do this.

Ive just done exactly what you folks are asking today. Returnred my Note 4 as I really hate TW with a passion and that horrible screen touch "pop pop" everytime you press something. I bought the N4 a few days ago, hoping that Sammy had done something with TW in 501 update, albeit they havent.. and I found I had no use for the S-Pen, but I do think the N4 QHD screen is stunning. I returned the N4 and bought a G3 and got money back... .. amazing phone, loving it so far.. and the audio is awesome, with the QuadBeat Headphones and 1Amp speaker.

I agree ... The G3 is a great phone and apart from the G4, theres nothing on the market that touches it.. the S6 still has TW, The One M9 is just an M8 with a new camera. theres no new Nokia/MS flagships yet, the NExus 6 is an alternative if you want pure Android, so ATM... the G3 is one of the best phones out there until the G4 comes down in price (which I cant wait for), but at the moment the G4 is too pricey.
Go for it, buy the G3, you can pick up a Brand New unlocked/Unbranded G3 for about £350/$400 .. so yeah... I recommend it
Good luck
Thank you guys, I'll follow your advices and my gut. Soon I'll be part of the G3 family.
I got mine from amazon Wednesday to replace my z2. The phone is amazing. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...ords=lg+g3&dpPl=1&dpID=41uvCd6+PVL&ref=plSrch this is where i got mine
I'm a phone-a-holic lol and rarely keep one for more than 6 months before moving onto something else newer and better. Over the years this is by far the best phone I've owned. It almost seems impossible to brick. It can be but simple to get out of a soft brick. Go for the g3 you won't be disappointed.

It is. Do it.
I honestly couldn't recommend 100% right now as there are a few problems I've yet to solve, 4G connectivity and the flakey nature of the wifi/3G data - when it works it's great but at random times it just freezes which is really frustrating.

Yeah, I had bought one from coolicool online store last week. I am looking for getting my p8000 and judge if worth to buy it
I wouldn't buy one. Mine has the issue where the screen just starts to flash continuously and never recovers. If you then reboot the handset it gets stuck in a loop. The only way to get it working again is to reflash the firmware. It's rubbish, save your money or spend it else where.
I had that screen flashing issue once but seems to be ok on the 20150815 firmware(so far!)
I'm on day four with mine and it just works. No problems at all. Even came rooted, just ran SuperSu and everything was good.
It's a bit big and heavy, but amazing performance for the prize (came from a LG G2)
Had mine for about 3 weeks now and to be totally honest, it's great. Does everything I need it to. Great 4G on 'Tesco' UK, great WiFi, great camera, rugged build and tough screen glass (dropped it 4 times on hard floors and still all OK with no scratches)
For the price (£110) I don't think that anyone could possibly complain. To buy a better known make of this caliber, and with the features it has, would cost nigh on £600-700. People that are complaining should probably go and buy a phone for 4 times as much. In my opinion, a brilliant phone for the money. Oh! and the battery lasts for ages, at least 2 days without charge if you don't go silly with the apps.
I may have been one of the lucky ones and got a good one. I also had the screen flashing on start up, but anyone can see that that is an initiation test run. Bear with it and press the right buttons, ,and all is OK after that.
Had mine just over 2 weeks and certainly agree that at this price point we can't complain too much, just wish my wifi was more stable - must just be my phone though as most of you seem to be ok on that front.
I'm looking for a mobile device with a good camera and CM support, is it still worth getting the G4? what are other options there that support CM and custom roms? thanks
CM support as in cyanogenmod? Unless if you're getting the very specific model that can be unlocked, I'd say look else where.
I know the Nexus 6P would be a nice choice for both CM and a decent camera. Not sure if the S6 has an unlocked bootloader, if it does, then that's a great choice as well since their camera is just about as good as the G4.
I'd get a G3. G4 has too many issues.

nah, that's totally wrong . If you get a phone with S/N 500+ then expect to have some issues, but if you get a phone with S/N 600+ don't expect to have issues because phones with 600+ are made in 2016.
How do you know that's wrong? There have been a few G4's in the 600's that bootlooped, as reported on here and other boards. Even fixed G4's are re-looping.
Fact is, the early G4's have been bootlooping recently and we can't say that any newer ones won't until some time passes. It's a time bomb situation. It's not a chance I'm willing to take on a $400 plus device.
Thanks to all for responses
No. Too many devices are bootlooping. Mine was bricked from it last week. Save your money and buy a Nexus 6p

Good camera and CM don't mix. Pick one. Any time you add CM you lose the stock camera.
The nexus will work but they are only a decent camera (lacks OIS) so not as good as the stock G4 camera.
is it worth getting a G4 ? heh of course. What else can compete with it now at the going price.
Never selling mine. It will be with me until it dies
Look for serials 510 and over and you will be ok. Try to get with warranty.
Thanks, I have the option to get a serial starting with 6 but I've heard that even these are having the bootloop problem, not sure though it is as frequent as the old ones.
No, just get another brand, lg sucks.

How many devices have gotten the bootloop problem? What would a rough estimate be, any idea's ?
Jesus, what a load of rubbish from some users! The G4 was one of the best devices of 2015, as chosen by every single reviewer out there! Maybe not No1, but definitly among the top. I have owned 3 G4 units at different stages, and am using one right now, and have had 0 issues. It is a perfect phone in every way especially with the low price tag. Sure, I would take a Galaxy Note 5 or S7 Edge over the G4 , but considering im paying about 1/2 of the price (at least in my country, New Zealand), im pretty happy! Flagship specs and performance with half the price.
I will be upgrading to the HTC 10 once it is available, but the G4 has absolutely served me well, and highly recommended to anyone.
All the reviewers praised it before the bootloop hit, six to eight months after release.
Upon release it had some moderate touch screen issues, but was otherwise a good phone. No one is disputing that. The problem is the bootlooping and how LG is/has handled it. It's not a small issue. There are users everywhere that have been hit by it, and LG has done nothing but offer repairs to some, while others have to fight for it, despite the issue being completely LG's fault.
In all honesty, the G4 isn't a big upgrade at all over the G3. If I was intent of getting an LG, I'd go for the G3. Almost the exact same phone with no fear of bootloop and a lower cost.

That's true, you can't deny the hardware issues that happens to some, even though it didn't happen to me. But come on now, the G3 ovee the G4? The ui was just too laggy on the G3, not to mention that horrible over sharpening of the screen. I would still happily pick the G4, CONSIDERING the price difference between the G4 and other flagships. If money was no issue then definitly I would go for other devices. But the value for money is just too good to pass on.
Anyway, I will be back to my beloved HTC once the htc 10 hits the market. Looks like a solid comeback from htc. You might disagree but I will cherish my time with the G4 [emoji4]

Nothing but offer repairs ? what pray tell is LG to do.
Those that bought with warranty are covered for as long as the term is.
Those that bought without warranty were taking on a risk. This is true with anything. But then people are so passionate in this forum about phones that nobody thinks twice. And they will do it again in a heartbeat

Camera on the G4 is a generation jump. The same module was used in the G2, G3 and G flex 1 & 2. They changed it with the G4 and what a difference it makes.

Oh yes and stay away from Samsung and from HTC and from apple and...
To be honest! ALL the above can happen in different kind of manner with ALL vendors. Really do not think that buying a phone from other vendor will protect you.
Every model from every vendor has its own problems.
Buy a note 7 and your house may burn. Buy a iPhone and the screen may break. And so on.
When it comes to this device by LG the main problem is the boot loop issue which you can find in 100 threads here and elsewhere. I really like this device but as with all devices you should prepare yourself what you want:
Do you wanna install custom roms? Do you need root? Then you need a g4 model which can be unlocked (which I personally highly recommend). Not every model is possible to be unlocked.
The other one is the serial. The first 3 digits should be 60x the higher the better. The last one is: ensure you have warranty.
I really like this device but I have the h815 unlocked and twrp which ensures having a backup if all goes bad.

You know how much I respect you mate, but this device is affected by too much potential problems. No bootloop?
OK, screen ghost. No screen ghost and bootloop? Ok so talk about poor battery life, delay with updates, overheating ecc ecc..
And about development.. We have cyano. One custom kernel that will be no more developed (llama) and a couple of ROM based on cyano with cyano bugs inside and that make you lose stock camera and all his killer features.
I understand your point of view, but I will never ever say to a friend of mine "going to buy a G4, well done!". This is my opinion, stay away from LG expecially from G4.
Personally I passed to 6P.
Hope to see you again in other devices community!
TBH onest? No. The risk of getting bootloop or any other issue is quite too high, and customer experience I had is the worst one I've ever had.
IF it had no hardware issues that would've been the best phone to buy right now bot specs and price wise.
I'm Italian, here we have H815 international version with unlockable bootloader. Mine is serial 60x. No more bootloops, anyway no more serial one. My G4 is a fabulous phone, except for not great battery life. But it has quick charge.
So far for about 300 euro I don't se a better phone than G4 now.
With G3 I had a problem with the touch screen, sent to LG in warranty and they change all the screen and even the plastic front cover. So I had also a good experience with official assistance.

30 day return policy, right?
It's not the end of the world. It's a great phone without root. I haven't been able to say that about a lot of phones
I got lucky and somehow the order got messed up and best buy canceled it before they shipped out.
Yeah I got my G5 about a month ago. I've rooted every phone I have had prior to this one. However, I have had no need to root this phone as it seems to do all I need without root. I came from a Galaxy S4, so this is like going from a Prius to a Porsche.

Good phone (minus GPS, getting hot and power button) while it lasts. 9 months mine boot loops.
Luckily I only paid 1$ for it with the last of the 2 year upgrade plans. But the wife has the one with 5$ a month offer...doubt it will make it to the 2 year mark though. There is word out the g6 has same bootloops issues too.

Does yours have a physical problem that's causing it to bootloop or a software problem? A phone here or there with an issue is not evidence of a G4-style bootloop epidemic, and I've only seen a handful of reports of G6s bootlooping without much explanation of whether it's a hardware or software issue. I've seen a bunch of people pointing to that expansion of the G4/V10 class action to include the G5/V20 as evidence of G5 bootloops but no actual evidence that that's anything more than lawyers casting a wider net to bulk up their own payday.
I am a ups driver so I am outside a lot with the phone in my packet. As a side interest I am going for computer infotech bachelor. My personal opinion is that many will have my same problem and it is a hardware based problem from getting hot. I've seen YouTube videos where reheating the CPU (do a disconnect between CPU and board) is the issue. Mine lasted 10 months so built wise is better than the lg g4 BUT I have a tsrong feeling that as they time will pass a bit many will have this problem. The GPS issue and rear button is well known and that is from build quality too...we know that by now for a fact.. the bootloops will surface too.
I plan to try the Mobo/CPU fix and then play with it since selling it as a broken phone has no value really.
