I've recently fitted a new camera module, ordered from an Aliexpress seller to a M7. Generally it is OK except that the auto focus doesn't work. The camera is actually for a M8 (part number 13P1BCA403) and has an adapter attached to fit the M7 connector.
Does anyone know if I need to install M8 lib files to make this camera work properly in the M7?

Thanks for responding.
I first asked here http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/sense-7-apps-libs-framework-t3060899/page7 , but so far no replies so thought I'd try the M8 forum.

I'd say you'll need the software to run the camera. But I don't know if there are for m7. Can u do manual focus?

There are files in the libs folder with 'camera' in the name. Some of the files in an M8 ROM are different in name and size to the ones in a similar M7 ROM.
I was hoping that someone would say it is OK to copy the M8 files to the M7 libs folder.
I can't change the focus at all. It is reasonable for distant views, but anything closer than say 2 metres the focus is rubbish.
It's possible that the camera is faulty, and I am currently in correspondence with the seller about that.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't think that it is just one file as there are several camera related files in the /system/lib/ folder. If necessary I can move or copy files myself, but require confirmation that it is OK to do it. There is the added problem that if it does work it means that any future ROM flashing will also require file swapping. So I think I am talking myself out of using this camera and going for the latest M7 camera module 13P1BS402 instead.

Honestly I think that will be your best bet. Installing the wrong camera might never work, even with the right files. Why did you swap the camera anyways.

The original camera had the well publicised purple tint syndrome at low light levels. The replacement camera was on offer a few weeks back and described as being suitable for the HTC One M7 801 phone. As mentioned before I am taking up the issue with the seller - fingers crossed!:fingers-crossed:

Unfortunately not and the seller would not agree to a refund.
I did however buy and install another camera module for the M7 with part number 13P1BS402 and it is currently working fine.
I hope to acquire a One M8 phone soon so that I can test if the other camera (minus the adapter) will work in it successfully.

I'm new to xda and I did see one other post with the same idea as me, but I want to post my own thread because I want it to offer more information that I found and because it's going to be my first post.
So I was wondering if there is a possibility that the Droid Incredible could have a front facing camera put in it. I've always wanted one, but I will never part with my Incredible. I'm currently running it rooted, and with Cyanogen Mod 7.
Question time!
Do I need a specific camera or can it be any front facing camera from a phone that has it?
What software would I need for my phone to work with it?
Thank you in advance for helping me out!
I know I've seen some hardware modifications to the Galaxy S models to add the front camera. Not sure if it would work on the Inc, but it's worth looking into it. I'll check around in a bit and try to find them and post back later.

That would actually be really cool and another reason for me not to upgrade.

That's the thread for the GS FFC.
Thanks for everyone who responded so far! And yeah, I've seen the ones for the galaxy... They used a camera that was supposedly the same for in all versions of the phone and I saw that it even had a little space where the camera should be. I took apart my incredible and, depending on the size of the camera, it may fit.... Then of course I could follow the same instructions to make a hole for the camera to see out of.
Oh and I still would have to somehow connect it to the original camera, right? Or is there something more specifically it has to connect to... I also wonder if it's possible to replace the Incredible camera... So many ideas!
That sounds like more work than its worth

This would be waaaay cool if it was easy/cheap enough for my skills/wallet.
I saw a thread with some code to make g+ think the rear camera is front facing. That might be more do-able than a hardware mod. I'll look afound for the link.

His saying that he saw a code tricking the Google + app thinking that the rear camera was a front. If that's what your asking
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
if you don't mind the hassle of modifying your inc, maybe you should just sell it and get an incredible 2 instead...
Or quit being cheap and buy a phone with one.
The only problems here would be
#1 where to Søder the new connection
#2 Someone to code the drivers into the rom and make it recognize it (we're not a PnP computer)
As for the trick of making back camera as front is easy. I've used several ROMs that have that set in.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
You should look up "Vainworks"... it is a mirror stand that lets you use the rear camera like a front-facing one. I can't post a link, but you shouldn't have a problem finding it.
Haven't tried it, and it is a bit bulky, but maybe easier than open-phone surgery.

I found some intresting files in sys/ directory that could help me in this project but i need some some comments about it and im not sure about that the front and back camera will have this feature i appriciate every help i get
The HOX has HTC's own image chip that is capable in taking RAW picture but i think htc f***ed it up again so the RAW picture mode landed in the Developer partition of the Device so now my Project is to implement it again. The negative thing is just the htc album has no codec for RAW Pics so you have to use a third party app then :/
Examples:
-Android_Camera 2
-sys/modules/rawchip
sys/devices/virtual/rawchip/rawchip0
*there is an other file im searching in the sys developer partition

I still believe in HOX for Development
Sounds good but like many said HOX is not anymore * attractive device * for developers , we're lucky that we had great kernel devs and rom devs, infact we had best rom devs , sucha are richmond which made probably the most advanced sense rom ever in the history of XDA. Anyway the idea sounds good but requires some time , and by the time you manage to do it there will be only few left to use it or care for it.
Anyway i wish you all the best and best of luck into making this happen since i love my hox too much to sell it but still got me One.

Keep up the good work, I and a lot of others are cheering for you!

+1 There's plenty of life in the old girl yet
I would love to see this, I always prefer raw from my dslr when I'm working in photoshop and would be really interesting to see it in Hox, and as some have already said, the Hox is nowhere near dead or old, it will be around for quite a while yet. Waiting eagerly

Its good to smell the old XDA Flavour here on HOX Forum Guys the HOX is a highly capable device we dont need s-off for every development step

Believe. I've had the htc one but the camera sucks. I sold it..now I have the one x again. Just because it's newer doesn't make it super amazing.
As for x photos they are damn good. You want better go back to the dhd they were superb. I still think the one x takes cracking photos.

HTC m10, or just "10".
I am surprised to see no mention of the m10 on the forum yet. Do we foresee it to have as large of a following as the m8 and m9 had possibly?
I've been with HTC since original EVO 4G. What other premium Android phone have former HTC users moved on to? One Plus? Elephone?
The M8 made its name for being so developer-friendly (there was a Google Play Edition) and being a quality piece of hardware. The M9 rode that wave of popularity, but failed to deliver on the developer side and raised doubt as to the hardware quality (the Snapdragon 810 heating issue).
The M10 could be a great phone, but it has some lost ground to recover.
