Hello! I hope that through this thread I'll manage to find a solution. The thing is that with clean install in various roms. I've noticed thst when I'm turning on the Cellular data an exclamation mark appears next to the signal bar and while that lasts i can't establish a connection to the internet. The thing that's annoying is the fact that this exclamation mark won't disappear until i turn on and turn back off the aeroplane mode so that signal reception is reset. Just turning off and on the data won't help. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Ty in advance.

Yep they seem to be alright. One question. Do cellular data in your device start with the exclamation mark and after 1-2 seconds the mark dissappears and data is available?

Fraction of seconds may be.. But depends on network strength.. Moreover the exclamation mark means you aren't connected to Google servers.. Try changing sim slot.. As this doesn't seem to be a rom issue.. Either a network issue.. Or a hardware one.. Happens the same on stock rom as well..?

Well after flashing the op beta 7 firmware
+modem the issue seems to have stopped. I mean this exclamation mark thingy seems to become apparent while I'm in the countryside where signal is usually worse. While I'm in the city connection is either instant or almost instant. Can't remember what was happening with stock. It's been ages since i last flashed stock stable release. Maybe I'll need to flash stock 3.2.8 and observe.
One more thing @geekynoob do i need to flash firmware+ modem when I'm flashing stock rom? I suppose they are embedded into the rom files right? Ty for help

So it's a signal. Issue... I face it as well.. And frankly speaking mate the signal on custom roms is patchy..
And no need to flash firmware and modem while flashing stock roms they are inbuilt..
You need to to flash in case ur preference is different.. Example you want to use.3.5.5 modem and firmware with 3.2.8.. I hope you got my point..
@Konskl, this exclamation mark apperas when device is not able to connect to Google server. Once connection is established with Google server that exclamation mark will disappear.
And this is due to presence of captive portal detection.
If you want to disable this captive portal login detection and exclamation mark just execute below command in terminal emulator and reboot the device.
This is one time procedure.
settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0

I am using this command since one year on different devices ( moto e2 4g and now on OnePlus 3) without any problem.
I never got any problem at least in my use case.
You can search for Captive portal on Google for its possible use cases

If you ran the gb update you're not rooted nor did you damage your phone. Trying to use simple root wouldn't damage your phone either. Maybe just reboot, its possible you aren't near a 4G connection at the moment. 4G is almost like wifi, you can turn it on but if it can't connect it will just sit there. Last, what's with all the periods in your paragraph lol.
my period key is jammed on my keyboard. Is there any way i can get google video on my phone. I download vtok but it give off choppy video. My 4g has a ! next to it. Everything is ok right? How do i remove alot of the bloatware that is on my phone?

Because you're on Gingerbread you're going to have to wait to remove bloatware. There's no root exploit for it yet.
Don't worry about the ! next to your 4G symbol. That means the antenna is on, basically. If you're not in a 4G coverage area you won't see the other symbol that indicates you're connected to 4G.
try this: go into your Phone's menu setting and choose "Wireless & Networks." Look for the setting for "4G." Unless it says "connected to Sprint" you are not connected (probably because you are not in a 4G area).

If you aren't rooted you can't remove bloatware. Google video isn't on sense 1.0 I've only seen it on GB aosp roms (like nexus s) not a sense rom. As far as an exclamation mark being next to your 4G I've never heard of that, try turning it off I guess maybe the antenna is just on. The sucky part is if you excepted the GB update you can't root yet because devs haven't figured out how to unlock the bootloader. Sorry man

Maybe 4G is down, or towers having issues idk. If you want to feel better just reset and wipe the entire phone. Go to settings, and its either under applications or something else I forgot. It will say wipe everything from phone. I think its under "phone and SD card". Also try going to system updates and update your profile and prl.
i updated prl and profile and still exclamation mark next to 4g is everything ok?

Everything is fine. 4g is pretty fickle. You won't necessairly get a signal in the same place if its a weak signal.
Just don't worry about it. It will be there when you have a strong signal from the tower. Weather, buildings, even cars and people traveling between you and the tower can cause a signal drop.
So, when you see the ! Just wait until you get a signal or turn the 4g antenna off to save battery life. I rarely use 4g because of that.

is this for real? Turn off your 4g, its scanning and not connecting because you are out of range.
This has been going on for some time now. I cannot actually pinpoint when it happened. But whenever I am at work, I can connect to the network and it's grayed out. I can still browse and use some app but I don't get notifications from my apps and cannot use Google Talk, for example. That entire app is grayed out.
It's an 802.1x EAP - PEAP - MSCHAPV2.
Anyone got any ideas or tricks to fix this? It used to work before and it doesn't. I do not believe anything changed on our end. And I also cannot just restart the router at work. Thanks in advance.

Can you access gmail directly? Sounds like google services may be blocked by your network admin? Just a guess...
Im trying to understand what exactly is happening with you.
Are you getting a wifi signal and no notifications?
or are you not getting any wifi signal at all?
If you are getting a connection but notifications and google apps dont work, it could be that your work router those ports blocked or has a firewall infront of it.
If you are not getting any wifi signal at all, I would try and backup everything, and do a factory rest - update. basically a stock, unrooted wipe and reflash.
Don't know why our how to fix it. But I know that if your wifi is gray you still have data connection. And if it's blue your connected to Google services as well
Jellin' like a felon
Okay, thanks guys. The ports may be blocked. I get WiFi connection, but the indicator is grayed out. When that is so, I can still go into an app and use it with manual refreshes but I never get notifications automatically like I'm supposed to. They only start to pop in one I leave with and get back in the cellular network. And for an app like gtalk, I cannot use whatsoever as I'm signed out.

This happened to me before and basically it was how my IT guy setup our WiFi network in our office. I couldn't use any Google push services on my phone (gmail, gtalk, calender, etc...). Every thing would work fine when I was on data connection, but would stop on WiFi. I just stopped using my work WiFi when I was in the office. It definitely had something to do with the firewall/privileges of the WiFi network.

google push notification and so gtalk need ports like 5222,5223,5228
usually in a work wifi only port 80 (http traffic) and 443 (httpS traffic) are open

Do you have wifi set to turn off when the display turns off?
I came across this thread because I'm having the same problem with my GS3, the only thing that solved it was installing a WiFi manager app from the market.
Factory reset plus downgrading from 4.2.2 to 4.2.0 was the only thing that worked for me.
FIX FOR GREY WIFI/MOBILE DATA, and google account sync
HI THERE, sorry im new to e forum, anyways im using a SGS 3LTE with custom rom CM 10.2 android 4.3, CWM touch recovery. So many people are not able to connect to the play store and services over wifi, but only over mobile data. Another issue is that the cellular data and wifi tend to remain grey, unlike that of android 4.0 and back which remains blue. So to solve this heres what i did.
DID EVERY F**KING CRAP OUT THERE. DIDNT WORK.
What i did: use a file manager with root access, look for 'hosts' file in systempath 'system/etc/' and deleted it. So far so good, its permanently blue for both wifi and cellular data, and also i am able to access google apps and store without a hitch.
DO SHARE WITH ME UR FINDINGS/RESULTS AND SPREAD THE LOVE PEOPLE
On a side note: i used to flash and modify small roms for my old htc hd2, but the above fix was heard from a website from god knows where LOL, im singaporean, i speak singlish, and im proud of it so im not gonna apologise for the broken english
In case this helps anyone, the way I solved it at home with my Galaxy Nexus is by changing the setting of the router to Wireless G or N only. I have two routers, so I set one on 802.11g and the other on 802.11n only. By default my DLinks came with mixed wireless protocols. The problem with this is that it seems to confuse devices. That's why they also used to take long to connect to Wifi in general. Since I've made them only one standard now, they connect very quickly. Also, because I had mixed B, G and N on my best router, I never got to really use N. Turns out I had my authentication on WEP, and the only way you're getting N is by using WEP2 with AES.
Fix is here
Hello There, I tried to reset phone, clearing chache,Data but it wont work but now
I have a quick solution on this issue and grey wifi becomes blue in some minutes.
All you need is "Rooted Phone"
1.Install : Root Explorer
2. Grant SuperSU permission to Root Explorer
3. Mount Root Explorer into Read/Write (R/W).
4. Go To System > etc > locate "HOSTS" file in etc folder.
5. Edit Hosts file using root explorer
6. Insert the symbol # before the second set of IP address numbers then save the changes and exit.
7. Reboot your phone...
8. wifi icon will be blue as you start your phone back and some apps like Google play store, keep, etc will be start as normal.
Thanks.

Solution for all
Use Market Unlocker App for solution of this blue and grey wi fi problem
google it or search on black market
So this has happened to me at home and work but it's not consistent. Some times when I try to connect I get a message on the WiFi connect that says "Network disabled because Internet connection is slow" (see picture). Any idea what criteria is used to determine this, and is there a way to over ride it?
I'm at work right now and I just got kicked out wifi due to too slow lol.. but at home I have not got it yet.. maybe too much people at work using the wifi network. .
I setup my home network to have separated name (SSID) for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Network.
When I connect to the 2.4Ghz channel, no problem.
At the same distance, like 6 inches away from the router, when I connect to the 5Ghz channel, my 2 Galaxy Note 3 shows the same "network too slow" error and it will drop the connection.
This is one of the many reasons I returned my GSN 3
I also experienced another WiFi error.
At work, I can connect to the WiFi network with the WPA password provided, on my HTC One with no issue whatsoever.
When I tried to connect to the same network using the Note 3, it keeps telling me I have to "sign-in", when I click on the browser to "sign-in" (like those Free WiFi you can get at the hotel), there is no sign in page (because there is none) and brings me right to Google.com.
After that, the connection will last for 30 seconds or so and drop off.
The one I got initially and the replacement, both have the same issue, and I did inform T Mobile before I return them back.
4.3 problem? Samsung's problem? I don't know... All I know is I will wait until they resolve all these before I will reconsider getting this phone.
I spoke to them on same issue. Got new phone and they working on updating the WiFi drivers.

So far yes. Not a 100% sure though because the problem was not consistent. Sometimes it would connect sometime give the message. So, I'll keep you posted if it comes back.
Not trying to say your post isn't serious enough but we all who are having this problem on a consistent basis need to make a thread about this and just not take anything for an answer, but to give people somewhere to complain about this & hopefully bring more attention to this because there is nothing that is fixing this issue. The only thing that will fix this is Samsung or a Dev on a custom ROM hopefully. If you uncheck the options in advanced settings, it just stops the pop up from coming up telling you the connection is to slow & dropping you, after unchecked it dont drop you but while still showing you a full connection it will not do anything data wise, connect to the internet, switch to a different site, no facebook, no twitter, no market etc..... Nothing, you dont get dropped you just cant do anything. I hope my anger dont make anyone think Im arguing with anyone in here and their opinions, we all have this problem and are trying to help eachother, im just poitning out that those who are thinking this is fixing things its not, its just stopping the pop up. I am very frustrated this is happening on a brand new phone i waited this long for and paid as much as i did for. There should be a freaking petition started for this cause its just wrong.
Works fine for me my wifi never disconnects now after unchecking auto network switch and always scanning... Idk what to tell you guys that are still having the issue because I had the same issue when I first got the phone too...
Maybe try forgetting the network then reconnect after unchecking those settings and reboot...

Not all phones are created equal. Samsung needs to change the wifi drivers on the phone or a dev needs to take note 2 drives and add them to a custom rom.

I posted this in a different forum also but figured id post it here to. I just got off the phone with Samsung & they told me its not a major reported problem, wtf, lol? Everyone i know who owns this phone has this problem with it sayin internet connection to slow and booting them off, even with full signal. Im on my 2nd phone now & have the same problem. They tried telling me to go in to the wifi call settings & turn off wifi calling preferred, & i said why? Even though it's checked I have it off. I said seriously? what is that going to do for a wifi signal problem, lol. It's not my wifi calling it's my full wifi signal. I can tell this is going to be a huge problem & im returning my phone, 3rd time now, for a new one today, if i get the same problem, almost positive i will, im sadly going to have to return this phone & just get a refund instead. & that would really suck. Maybe i'll try a black one, but im sure it probably happens on that one to, lol.
I have been having this problem also. Turning off "Auto network switch" in the advanced network settings allows the phone to hold on to the connection, but it is completely unstable. I tested the connection using iPerf and it was all over the place. I can post screenshots when I get home later if it helps anyone. Samsung definitely needs to step in here.

I've never rooted it or anything, my device is still locked, could it be something wrong with the internal?
Or could i accidentally have deleted some important file? I have noticed that the clean master app uses awfully long time to find unnecessary files, when i'm using the clean option.
I really don't know what to do, as i'm not a pro.
- I hope someone on this forum can help

You can almost be certain that you did not delete anything important, as those System files require root to remove. So, that fear aside, it could be a few things you need to check. You probably just deleted the saved wifi profile information in the same way many computer cleaners clear your browser cache and you have to reenter previously saved passwords.
First, go to Settings -> Wifi and then on the left should be your SSID name and it will have something under it, which will be helpful to know. It will either say "Connected", "Secured with WPA/WP2", or "Out of Range".
If it says "Connected", your tablet is communicating with your WIFI Access Point, but for some reason is not able to get out. This is likely a router port configuration issue (which can get complicated if you do not know about them), there could be an IP Address Conflict with another device, or your internet may be out. Rebooting the Router often times fixes many issues.
If it says "Secured with xxxx" it means your tablet is seeing the access point, but there is an authentication error and they are not connected. This could be because of an encryption/password change on the router, or somehow, when you wiped your tablet, you just happened to zero out the WiFi profile for your network. If that is the case, click the Name of your network, hit "Forget", turn your Wifi off, and then back on. It should detect your network, and when you select it, prompt you for the encryption key/password for your network. Just re-enter it, and it should connect up. If you see the Wifi Signal, but it is dark on the status bar, this will cause it. If you re-enter and it does not sync up, try rebooting your tablet, and it should connect when it restart.

Thanks for the quick reply, i tried all the instructions above and some of them i've tried twice, but there's still no wifi.
Do you have no wifi everywhere? Like McDonald's or Starbuck? Or is it just at home?

It just happened today so i haven't brought it anywhere, but my phone and laptop seems to work fine. Could it maybe be something internal?
Despite the fact that other devices work, try rebooting your router if you have access.

Oops. Sorry, I missed reading you'd done that. Next step is to try another wifi source. Do you have a phone with hotspot?
BTW, airesgodofwar gave you an excellent troubleshooting guide. Just make sure that all web access is not working. If that's the case, factory reset may be needed. That will wipe all user data so don't attempt that yet.

Just tried to connect to my sisters wifi hotspot and it worked yay!
Does that mean that there's something wrong with the router? And how come it's only the tablet that can't get access?
- okay, so my wifi suddenly started to work again and I have no idea why. But without your help i would probably have panicked and factory reset my device, so thanks for your help! I appreciate it.
Did you reboot it? If so, try again but leave it off for a full minute or two. Technically, I can't explain it, but it happens that something in the router gets lost/misdirected (just like on your tablet, phone, pc) and a reboot is needed. I've had every one of a dozen devices access the web through the router while one tablet could not.
If another router reboot doesn't work, turn off the modem and the router (if separate) then restart modem then router.

Likely an IP Address conflict, meaning that your router assigned 2 devices the same IP address on your LAN. I should have said, when you reboot your router (which usually solves most issues), you need to hard reset it to clear the current IP tables usually, meaning you need to unplug for 30 seconds before you plug it back in, or if it has a reset button, hold it in for 30 seconds before releasing.
Good news is that it does not sound like it has anything to do with your tablet, so no need to reset it.
So after rooting and installing latest Cataclysm (Jan 6th update) with ElementalX I get this exclamation mark on my cell signal and wifi.
When that happens, I can use Facebook, Whatsapp, Youtube and I am able to make calls, texts, etc. What I can't do is load any page that isn't a google page on my browser. Also, I can't load anything on my Reddit app that isn't a text thread. Images, videos and anything external in general, won't load.
When I restart my phone, everything works fine. As soon as I lose signal or turn airplane mode on/off, it appears and I can't get rid of it.
I tried:
Resetting my APN settings.
Reinserting my SIM.
Changing preffered network to 2G/3G/LTE.
Resetting network settings.
Flashing ROM again.
Flashing original EFS again.
Wiping cache/dalvik.
I have no idea what to do or what is causing this issue.
Please help.
Go back to stock ROM and see if it happens there, if it does it's a carrier issue if it doesn't it's likely a bug with the ROM/Kernel you are using.
What carrier are you on? Have you check and/or re-verify those APN settings ? Next time this happen, turn on Airplane mode for 15 or 30 seconds, then turn it off again - do you have a decent cellular signal ?
I'm running PureNexus with EX rom and it's fine, solid (and stronger) signal on T-Mobile vs. N5 used by spouse.

Im not from the US or something popular but trust me I verified my APN settings.

I saw it sometimes on my custom ROMs, nothing to worry about though.
If you enabled data and you don't get the LTE sign, then try going into the Hidden menu and setting LTE to automatic. I forgot the hidden code though, can somebody else supply it? Alternatively, you can go inside settings>others>network>apn and check the apn, then go out and change the option to LTE (recommended) or something

Is this occurring with the MMB29P radio and vendor installed?

Removing Adblock plus seems to fix the issue, thanks.
